One of my favorite places to order when I get to eat out. Love their pizza- everything is always fresh and made correct to order!

We were on our way to Trader's Joe and decided to stop for a quite bite. I got the club sandwich and my fiance had shrimp and avocado salad. First the good: The sides were very good! I had coleslaw with my sandwich and, unlike in many places, the salad was not 50% mayo. The vegetables were clearly all fresh and sauce was light, but still have great taste. Definitely 5/5. The sandwich was good, but nothing special. While it was prepared well I was somewhat underwhelmed by the meal. The portion was a good size, but the sandwich was not unique. I had only tried one, so maybe some of their other choices would leave a more memorable impression. The bad: The avocado on the salad was not ripe enough. They should have left it for another day or so. The salad itself was good as was the dressing (like the coleslaw - light and refreshing) but when one of the main ingredients is not up to par it leaves you wanting. Overall, I am torn between giving this place 3 or 4 stars. I think it is somewhere in the middle, but since our experience was not that memorable I gave it 3. We only had 2 dishes and given some of the good points I think Newk's probably has some other good choices. read more

Fast and friendly service when I ordered curbside pick up! Highly recommend it food was fresh and warm!

Good food ordered at desk, self service beverage, order delivered to table, condiment bar. Large clean seating areas with central open to view food prep area. I saw large to go and delivery orders being prepare and leaving the store. Enjoyed our food and highly recommended as a convenient location after shopping at the nearby Trader Joe's. read more

Adam is the number one reason to visit Newk's, but there are a number of other great reasons, including the food. He is friendly, courteous and makes Newk's feel like a second home. My kids adore him and they actively seek him out when we visit so they can give him a hug. My 6 y/o has requested Newk's for her birthday dinner two years in a row! This restaurant is not fancy (you order at a counter and they bring you your food) but the food is excellent for the price point, the serving size generous and the atmosphere always friendly (and the restaurant very clean). I almost always order the "Newk's favorite" salad with shrimp instead of chicken. Delicious, filling and doesn't break the bank. Standard kid fare served tastefully (a small cast iron pan for the Mac and cheese). Wine and beer available as well. The restaurant's name is a bit odd, phonetically, esp for those of us who grew up in the Cold War era. Disregard the name - go for the opportunity to hang out with Adam and eat really good food. I ordered for curbside pickup. They were really fast. Brought it out quickly. I got a salad. It was fresh and tasted great.

The menu has nice changes of pace. They offer sweet tea sweetened with Splenda; being diabetic, it's very nice to see in a restaurant. The staff are always pleasant and willing to answer a question. Always happy to eat here. read more

I LOVE their Broccoli Cheese soup.... And hate that it isn't a daily option. I find their salads to be meh, their pizza to be chewy and their sandwiches to be strange. Their iced tea, however, rocks my socks. We went as a big group for dinner on a Sunday and there was plenty of room available for us, beer, too. read more

The pimento cheese tastes just like your Mimi's - but do yourself a favor and grab a cold sandwich from the cooler. I tried it warm once and it is absolutely not for me. My husband the omnivore finds a variety of meals good but says none were good enough to specifically recommend. Sodas come in a giant Rudy's-esque "take it home" cup. My boyfriend and I wanted to try something new in the Arboretum area, but didn't want to spend a lot of money. We found Newk's through Yelp and decided to give it a try! We got there around 11:30 on a Saturday and there was no wait and plenty of seating. We ordered a BBQ chicken pizza, a side order of the pimiento & bacon mac and cheese and a large (16 oz) loaded potato soup. The BBQ chicken pizza was flavorful, but not too salty. I'm not a huge fan of thin crust pizza, so it was a bit too crispy for my preference. The mac and cheese was my favorite dish! Again, not too salty and a good balance of the pasta, cheese and bacon. The loaded potato soup was decent. Nothing that stood out spectacularly, but a generous portion that hit the spot on a cold winter day. Service was fast and friendly and the manager even came by to check on all the tables. The restaurant was also very kid-friendly from what I gathered from the people sitting around us. Not too noisy, but still casual and relaxed. Verdict: A solid lunch spot with relatively healthy and tasty options that won't break the bank! read more

I came here for the first time today and really enjoyed my lunch! Well I enjoyed the food - I was there for a none-too-pleasant business meeting, but that made the discovery of mac and cheese combos even more welcomed! I went for the half salad + mac n cheese combo and was quite pleased. The salad was good, standard garden with a few extras like shredded cheese and big croutons. Good side for a salad too, it really is a half and not just a small salad. The mac n cheese was also tasty! It was baked (always a good sign) and the sauce was thick and salty. That being said it could have used a bit of pepper or something like that, but I couldn't leave my boss at the table... The service was a little concerning - pretty slow at 11:45, which I consider to be early for lunch. We didn't have to wait in line long but it did take quite some time for the food to come out. read more

I want to like Newk's because it's in a good location and they have a great menu, but the sandwiches we got were terribly under-seasoned, bordering on completely tasteless and bland. The only tasty item was the crab corn chowder. If I'm hungry for soup I might stop back by but there are too many good places in the area to frequent Newk's. read more

Newk's has become a frequent favorite for lunch, now that my office is located in the Arboretum area. The shrimp remoulade salad is a personal favorite. The thing is loaded with shrimp and they use just the right amount of dressing. The greens aren't completely drenched, but you aren't left with a dry salad, either. This location is busy, busy, busy during the weekday lunch rush, but the line at the counter moves pretty quickly, and service is prompt. You can definitely get in and out in about a half hour, which to me is a reasonable benchmark. Tables can be hard to come by, especially if you have 4 or more people, but they do have some seating outside. One of my recent lunchtime companions pointed out how nice it was that they offered sweet tea that was sweetened with splenda, rather than sugar. Of course, the "regular" sugar-sweetened tea was also available. This isn't something I would have noticed, but I can see how someone who has diabetes would welcome this nice gesture. read more

I don't often write bad reviews. I don't like doing it; too much negativity. However, in this case, it is warranted. I simply haven't had a good experience when going here. Some folks I hang with seem to like it alright, so I've gone along a few times, but I don't think I will again. The poor experience starts with ordering. The menu board is off to the side, at a 90 degree angle to the line and in type that is too small. You have to basically either a] step out of line to read it or b] wait until you've reached the front of the line where you can see it from straight on and up close. I don't like to hold people up making my decision, by the time I get to the register I want to know what I'm getting, so this irks me. I'm not sure what the "round table" is for. I've gotten sandwiches, I've gotten pizza. Neither of these seem to be helped by anything on offer here. Which brings me to my next point. The food is pretty darn bland. The most egregious example being the steak sandwich, which really tasted of...nothing. Not steak, not seasonings, certainly not the horseradish sauce it claimed to have on it. Quite frankly the [terrible] breadsticks from the "round table" were more flavorful. read more

My friend and I saw that there were new items on the menu...several different varieties of mac and cheese dishes. My friend and I split the crawfish mac n cheese. I always enjoy the sammies and soups at Newk's and the customer service is always great. Whenever Adam is working he makes sure that our meal is okay and is very friendly and energetic. I love that he checks on everyone and is constantly keeping the tables bussed. As far as the crawfish mac n cheese, the mac and cheese itself was delicious, however, the crawfish tasted as if had just been boiled in plain water and the tails placed on top. I mentioned it to Adam and he apologized. The manager came to check and we brought it up. Since I am from New Orleans, I have higher expectations of how crawfish should be seasoned. I mentioned that perhaps they should boil the crawfish in a crab boil water to season the tails. He politely stated that menus are dictated by corporate and said that he would communicate my suggestion to corporate. I empathized as I have spent many years in the restaurant industry and realize that hands can be tied when it comes to making changes. I topped the crawfish with tabasco sauce and it temporarily helped but next time I will avoid the crawfish mac n cheese. However, their loaded potato and veggie soups are delicious as well as their club sammies! read more

Never heard of this chain because they're not in California. Wish they were. Went there with a group for a business lunch. Their portions are sizable and everything is reasonably healthy. Yelp's description of 3 stars says it all: A-OK. This place is pretty well run. Management seems genuinely interested in making the customer's experience as positive as possible. They seem to have found a good balance of "serving the customer" by taking orders as you walk in and bringing the orders to your table, and "allowing the customer to serve themselves" by providing salad extras/other condiments/drinks in a central area. The restaurant has no problem handling the large volume of customers that flock to this location at lunch. Kudos! However, their food just doesn't do it for me. Most of the delicious (per my husband and his co-wokers) items on the menu are honestly just too bad for me to eat. I do like that they have their nutrition facts posted online (for those of us watching their girlish figures) but there are very few items that are really "light". I wish they would add some more options, or maybe just "lighten up" some of their existing (proven successful) menu items? I ordered the Newks Favorite salad at lunch yesterday and it was pretty yummy. That sucker was HUGE though... my husband and I could have definitely split it. It was also wayyyyy over-dressed (like, there was a pool of dressing at the bottom)... not cool. Next time, I'll have to remember to ask for dressing on the side. All in all, it's an okay restaurant. I love newks. It has something for everyone in my family. My husband loves the sandwiches, my daughter loves the pizzas and my son loves the mac'n'cheese. I'm not easy to deal with. I will take an item and remove most of the yummy things. No cheese, carbs ,dressing, double protein...ect. They have always been great taking my order and everything tastes great! I appreciate the free self serve breadsticks and crackers which are a hit with kids! Great casual family dining option! read more

Great soups, great sandwiches. I can't vouch for anything else. The Italian sub might be the best I've ever had, and the Lobster Bisque and Torialla Soup are both very good. Reasonable prices too. Be aware, lunch gets a little crazy, but where doesn't it. Also, for some reason (and it's probably just me being a weirdo) I always feel like I'm getting blinded by the sun mirroring off of cars in the parking lot when I'm here. Anyways, give them business. My wife and I have eaten at Newk's several times and have never had a bad experience. Today my wife had the Buffalo Chicken pizza and I had the chicken sandwich with the Cesar salad. Both were fantastic! Newk's Q and Newk's Favorite are our other go-to's. Great food is one thing, but if the customer service is bad who wants to go back? Tonight we were greeted immediately as we walked in and all the staff we interacted with went above and beyond. Two years ago when we moved to Austin we thought Newk's was like a Panera Bread type of restaurant. After repeated visits, Newk's separates itself with a variety of really good food and great customer service. read more

I have ordered from Newks for the last 4 weeks. Only the first 2 times the order was the same Margarita with tomatos on top. Third time they gave me just a cheese pizza without the tomato's on top, this last time the Margarita pizza only had tomatoes under the cheese. I am a new customer to Newks trying out your food. If you are going to make something different every time I order it; how am I know if your company knows what It I'd doing. I do know one thing I will not be back. You should know one thing a cheese pizza is not the same thing as a Margarita pizza. read more

Came in at 3:20pm Sunday. No one behind the cash register again. No one acknowleges me. A older short hair female worker walks right pass me without one word. No greeting. No hello and goes directly to help a take out customer who comes in after me. She finally says she will be right there. It is 10 min after I come in before my order is taken. No apology for waiting and is stoic and unfriendly as if I did something to offend her. I ask for cucumbers for my salad and they add $.55 for 4 very thin slices of cucumbers. While I am eating I watch other customers come in. A good looking blonde comes in. Workers stop and help her immediately. A less pretty girl comes in and she waits. Two older seniors come in and looked confused as there is no one there. One guys helps himself to soda. The food is still decent, but customer service has gone down the gutter. read more

Absolutely delicious! The Newk's Greek Salad is my all-time favorite salad! I go to Newk's at least once a week. Everyone who works there is friendly and helpful. Just a good tip, whenever I dine in or order to-go, I always double check to make sure my order is all there and everything is correct. There have been a few times when I have ordered my meal and something has been missing (i.e. extra olives, the salad dressing, tomatoes, ect.). However, the manager has always been sweet to correct my order and on occasion has given me a refund when my order is completely wrong. read more

Stopped in on the way home from work. It's located in a plaza with Trader Joe's, up near the Arboretum, off Great Hills. Considering it was dinner time, the place wasn't busy, which was nice. Decent menu with Sandwiches and Pizza. I had a pizza that was good, with good flavor. Wasn't just typical bland pizza. Thin crust, fresh toppings. The girlfriend had a sandwich which she said was "okay". They had a decent beer selection, and the prices were moderate. I would eat here again, but not make it a point to go out of my way. Newks is delicious and convenient. You can get delivery or curbside pickup. I usually get the Newks Q sandwich and soup or a pizza. The tomato basil soup is amazing. I have also used them for catering. They have many individual box options of sandwiches and salads for catering (and delivery was free). Food was great. Highly recommend. read more
