C20 - General Tso's chicken with lo mein
Vaughn F.

New Wok's has become my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. You order at the counter or call ahead. There are tables inside, but the takeout action is where it's at. They also deliver and, yes, you can get the lunch specials to-go. The lunch specials are almost too good to be true. Available every day of the week from 11 AM to 3:30 PM, there are over 60 entree options, all under $7, with most around $6.50, each served with pork fried rice (+$0.25 for brown rice or +$1 for lo mein) and choice of either soup, soda, or egg roll. (While I wasn't a fan of the brown rice, the lo mein is worth the upcharge.) There are a variety of vegetarian options, though I mostly stick to the chicken dishes. General Tso's chicken and the sesame chicken are delicious, and the hot & spicy chicken also does the trick. There are also extensive choices for pork, beef, and seafood. This place gets points for their extensive menu options, ease of ordering, fast service, affordability, and offering the lunch specials 4.5 hours a day, 7 days a week. Solid.

I'm really really really disappointed. I wanted to order something quick and simple today so instead of going with flushingfood or other delivery options I figured Chinese takeout would be the quickest solution. When I placed the order with the lady that picked up the phone, I specifically mentioned and requested and triple checked with her that I don't want the broccoli to be cooked soft and that I wanted the broccoli to be crunchy. When I opened the order, the broccoli looks like it's been cooked to the point where my grandma with dentures would have no problem eating it. I don't even care that it's oily or whatever but why is the broccoli cooked the point that it's mushy like this when I've already mentioned three times in total that it must be crunchy !!!!!!

Dear Mr. Wok, Thank you for being right beside the bus station so every time I will walk in your place before hesitation. Thank you for diversified menu : 1 in Chinese & 1 in English. So that I could order from both menus. Recommended (Which you may not be able to order from normal Chinese take Out restaurants): Noodles w. Spicy Meat Sauce (Za Zang Noodle) Chicken Corn Soup (Comfort Food & Delight) Disappointed: Won Ton Soup (I'm so picky about Won Ton =)

He tried to overcharge me. When I tried to address it he waved me off, I insisted getting my money back after calling him to me several times. He used his hands and and waved me away after giving me my money. If you like this level of treatment by all means throw away your money in this establishment.

I found a roach in my food after I was pretty much finished. It's absolutely disgusting. I can't believe the amount of times I've eaten here. See my attached photo for yourself.

Every time we order, the food is amazing. I'm on a low salt, low sugar, low fat diet and yet, their food is delicious.

A tad too oily, but less than other restaurants. Sadly, if my favorite dish were the snow pea tips, then the entrees were alright. This place is pricier than other restaurants in flushing, but I believe their portions are bigger, or at least it seemed to be. The twice cooked pork had potential to be really good, but it was a bit too bland. The many spices pork and taro was more like sweet and sour. The taro were great. The pork I felt was a bit too sweet. The fried duck and taro sticks were also too sweet. If it wasn't sweet, it would've been great! The drunken chicken was surprisingly very flavorful. I think this place have done the best cold, chicken appetizer I've had in NYC. The fried rice was a bit of a letdown. It was very peppery and I didn't taste any notes of truffle. The braised beef was also a disappointment. Not too flavorful and a bit sweet.

Lots of seafood and dishes that aren't the easiest to find elsewhere. I brought my grandma and she also really liked it. Only warning is that they don't seem to have veggies - they were out of nearly all veggie options when we went at 11:30am. See pics for specific dish recs!

Would you like to be transported back in time to ancient china?…read more How about just testing your spice tolerance to see if you can hang with the best? Well, if you want all of that, PLUS hot pot, look no further - this is the place to be! There is a reason this is one of the highest recommend spots to visit when you're in Flushing. First off, entrance? SO UNASSUMING. It's like, the tiniest door, with no real obvious signage. Once you go through, you basically feel like you're in one of the ancient alleys of China - decor is 1000% great. We had a larger party of 7, and they were luckily able to accommodate us since we lined up a few minutes before opening on a Friday. We actually got IMO the best seats in the house - towards the back, elevated up on some steps, a mini pavilion essentially. But enough about the decor.. how was the food? Well.. GREAT! And honestly, for NYC prices, not too expensive (but a bit pricy for flushing I guess). The quality was top notch (highly recommend trying the mala quail eggs) and the spice of the broth was GREAT! We went with medium since our server (amazing btw, thank you Sean / Shawn / Shaun??) said that he can't even go near hot, it burns his eyes. Medium was just perfect - felt great eating it with some sweats, regretted it the day after, which means I couldn't have asked for a better experience! Meats were good quality, veggies were yummy. I wish the shrimp paste had more in terms of quantity, we barely had seven bites for each of us, but it was really good. Also, pro tip, probably don't order Napa Cabbage, a lot of their other dishes will sit on top of a whole leaf, so you'll probably get enough from that unless you want to consume half a head. Sauce bar is $2 a person - which might be shocking for some to know they charge it, but it's pretty much the norm at a higher end hot pot place in big cities. At least they don't charge $6-$8 like some places and only throw in a few apps/desserts to try to justify it. Overall, really loved this place, and would definitely go back.

The mushroom was my favorite and loaded with fresh mushrooms. -beef tongue rattan pepper: at first the pepper was not overwhelming but with time it was numbing my tongue which was a bit uncomfortable -sliced beef tendon: delicious -prime beef slices: they weren't that soft and not super well marbled. The bowl that our mushrooms came in was rusted... kind of ruined my whole experience. At least server was super nice and attentive. Wouldn't come back though.

That being said, the food is the primary focus. Service was reasonably attentive, with the waitstaff checking on us a few times. We came on a weekend lunch and the restaurant was busy but not full with no wait. The flavors are very classic Szechuan, with a lot of numbing peppercorn. The spiciness is not overwhelming. The portions here are massive and the restaurant is clearly more geared towards large groups. We ordered two dishes could have easily fed four people.

It's very spicy with the signature Sichuan peppercorn, so if you're not into numb spicy, considered yourselves warned. We specifically loved the pig trotters. I've never had them like that before anywhere, so it's definitely a chefs special. They were made crispy on the outside but soft and flavorful on the inside. Highly recommend. All the other dishes were also fantastic. Portions are also great, we ended up taking lots home. They gave us free dessert jellies which is also a classic Sichuan dessert; they also had a deal where you get free drinks if you order a certain amount of food, so we got two free drinks. I would have given a five star if not for the super long wait. Granted we did go for Christmas Day dinner. We saw them having to turn away lots of customers. They are super popular. Main issue is there isn't a number system, so getting a table felt a bit random; we considered ourselves lucky. Our servers were very friendly and nice. They told us it would be a bit of a wait, but this was the longest I've ever waited for food: 45 min before the first dish was served. We ordered 5 dishes with rice (forgot to take pictures of two of them). I wasn't told one of the dishes I ordered wasn't available until 30 min after I placed my order. But when the food did come, they all can't together so we didn't have to keep waiting. The servers were also attentive after despite how busy and clearly overwhelmed they were, which was really nice. In conclusion, great food with good portions for spice lovers. Very nice servers and try not to go on Christmas Day since it can get really busy.

The environment is clean, and staff was welcoming when I dined here on a Friday evening with other Yelp Elites. The restaurant filled up with people very quickly. I cannot remember having better Northeastern Chinese food anywhere. The food came with an amazing presentation, taste, freshness and quality. I am a huge fan of the Cumin Flounder, which is crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. It is the best flounder that I have ever tasted in my life! The Beef Tenderloin in Brown Sauce is to die for. I loved the Minted Salted Egg Yolk and Sliced Pumpkin so much that I will come back here to order it for Thanksgiving dinner. If you can handle the spice, go for the Fried Squid Head with Spicy Peppery Sauce. It was the table favorite because most of us prefer the head or tentacles of calamari to the rings. The Molten Sugar-Crusted Yams and Dates were phenomenal. It came with a bowl of water on the side to remove stickiness from the serving spoon between helpings. We also feasted on the Sautéed Shredded Beef with Spicy Pepper, Cumin Lamb, Sliced Potatoes with Truffles and Salt and Pepper Shrimp. The pickled salad certainly tickled my fancy. TIP: Eat everything with chopsticks for portion control. Thank you Andie for putting this all together, and the birthday cake that Mike bought for you was a decadent surprise because it was so chocolatey and moist.
