East Boston is a longer trek for me so I usually stop here when I am in the area. I've been here a few times. I really enjoy the pho here - the broth is flavorful and has a lot of depth. I'm not sure why other reviewers say the broth is strange because the flavor profiles in this pho are authentic and remind me of my childhood. My boyfriend ordered an extra large bowl of pho and I appreciate how his pho came in a larger bowl. Most places give you the same size bowl and just add extra noodles but this place gives you both more broth and noodles with a larger bowl. After leaving, my boyfriend agreed that this place has really good broth but that he prefers our usual pho restaurant because the brisket here is not as tender and is of lesser quality. With that said, I don't really have any complaints for the meats in my pho dac biet and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and my durian smoothie. Just a heads up - The service here is not the best. There is usually only one person covering the front end (waiting on tables, taking payment of the takeout orders, and making drinks). When I go out to dine, I usually expect to be offered water but here it is something that you have to ask for. Also, another gripe that I have is the menu pricing is not up-to-date, lacks transparency, and I suspect overcharging. My order came out to $32 but the breakdown of the menu prices of the items that I ordered were $9.95 (dac biet), $10.95 (XL pho), and $4.50 (durian smoothie). Adding up those prices and including tax, the total should have only been around $27. The bill only specified the total charge and does not include price breakdowns. When asked about it, she said the pho dac biet is an extra charge and the prices were actually $11, $12, and $5, respectively and the tax. However, this breakdown still doesn't add up. We had just flown in from CA and wanted something hearty, familiar and reasonable. Found New Saigon on Yelp and decided to give it a try. We ordered fried chicken wings to start which came out hot, plump and crispy with a sweet chili dipping sauce. For our entrees we had banh xeo, com suon bi cha (rice with pork chop, omelette and a julienned pork skin mix), and a pho dac biet. The food was overall quite good and a pleasant surprise coming from SoCal, land of VN immigrants and abundant VN restaurants. The banh xeo was made of shrimp and chicken which was different than the traditional shrimp and pork filling. It was a pleasant surprise, as was the nice sweetness of caramelized onions. The crepe itself was crisp which is a must for this dish so two thumbs up. The com tam overall was also nicely presented with good sized portions of succulent pork chop and accompaniments. The pho dac biet was a pleasant surprise. We often rate pho by how unnecessarily sweet some restaurants make the broth. This one was not unnecessarily sweet which was a big relief, so kudos to the chef for balancing out the flavors and spices. The pho also featured a good ratio of meat to noodles so once again all was good on the pho front! Next time we're back in town we'll be back! read more

Had a short layover in Boston and was staying near this area of East Boston. Noticed the excellent reviews and decided to try this place. They have a pretty extensive menu as well as daily specials to choice from, all dishes can be modified for the protein of your choice...I prefer tofu. We ordered two dishes, both on their daily specials menu: Basil Tofu and Avocado Curry. The food came quickly and the servings were generous. Each dish was tasty and presented nicely on the plate. We also each received a healthy serving of rice with our order. The server did not ask for what spice level we preferred, so it came with a basic heat level, butthe tables all had sriracha to add more heat, which we did. The service was good and fast, so no complaints. Being from the west coast, I thought the food was pretty good. I would definitely come here again on another layover. read more

While me and my bf were craving for some pho after seeing one along the road going to super 88 and the place we were gonna go was already closed for some private party that night I ended up stumbling to this place when I searched on yelp. It was kind of late at night and we were so happy to find this place. We went in and it wasn't busy cause it's late already but it worked out well for us. We got sat right away! SO SO yummy! I first tried this place about 2 months ago and have been a regular returning customer. I kid you not I eat here about once a week! Lots of basil, fresh bean sprouts. Split the bowl across four. Pad Thai was just okay, not very flavorful, but the vermicelli with grilled pork was excellent. Fresh basil, roasted peanuts, lettuce and carrots. plenty of noodles. Great flavors. Last dish was the best, fried noodle nest with shrimp, squid, chicken, beef, fake crab, and veggies. We came to this place for pho many times in the past several years and pho dishes were always delicious until we ordered take out with "extra bonus" in them. One time there was a dead fly in my stir fried noodles and recently it was a thumb size long plasticky thing in my husband Bahn mi sandwich. We couldnt tell what that was but definitely not edible. There's no good authentic Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, or food from Asia in the neighborhood. Therefore, this restaurant already takes home the cake solely because it exists, and it serves food that resembles a meal from Vietnam. Is this the best damn Vietnamese food in the state of Massachusetts? Probably not. Will it satisfy your South East Asian or East Asian food craving because you are so sick and tired of heavy western food? Yes! Is this a bad restaurant? No, it's not bad at all. Should you come here with an expectation that summer rolls and tofu wraps are flavorful dishes? Probably not (Duh, not unless you dunk it in a heavy sauce, and in which case you probably should not have come to a Vietnamese restaurant to begin with). You cannot replicate recipes from another country simply because we do not have access to the same ingredients in the United States. Dinner for two for a little over $20, I can make this a weekly occurrence if I wasn't so concerned about sodium and my blood pressure! Had a delicious bowl of pho Dac biet, so filling and comforting! The soup wasn't too oily or bland, just needed a touch of sriacha and hoisin sauce. Meat portions were fair, just right. The sides dish with the bean sprouts and basil were a bit stingy and small though, plus they didn't have mint, only 1 sprig of basil given. I'm sure you could ask for more as this does prevent wasting. The spring rolls here are also made with chicken and shrimp instead of pork, it tasted pretty good and chicken is better for you, I liked the idea. Parking can be a bit tricky since it's in the middle of a busy road in east Boston, but there is a good amount of street parking if you're patient and willing to walk a bit.
