The dim sum was OK. The food didn't really taste that good especially the bean curd roll. The fried rice was really good and the tofu dish we ordered. The service was great and the shop was big and clean
It's very crowded when we got there at 12:30pm on Sunday, but we were a party of 2 so we were seated within 10 mins. The food is great as always
Great dim sum, got seated right away on a Thursday right at opening. They offer 20% off on tuesdays/thursday which is also awesome! Everything came out very fresh and service was great. We need to come back for family style dinner.
After a business meeting in the area, I decided to get food from New Fortune 2. The name was intriguing and was curious why it was called New Fortune 2 v 1. New Fortune 2 located Highway 620 is a rebirth of the original New Fortune restaurant, now rebranded with a "2" to mark its fresh start. According to my server New Fortune 2 gives classic Chinese flavors a twist. Chef William Wong is the menu master. While the building is not spectacular form outside except for the two golden lions, inside you get a different perspective. When I walked in I immediately noticed three tanks of live lobsters. They currently have a lobster special underway. I am generally not a fan of seeing seafood alive and then cooked for me afterwards. Other striking areas of the restaurant is the etched glass in very interesting patterns...quite beautiful. The restaurant is quite large with a private dining area. I decided to have a lunch special - sesame chicken. It came soup, rice and a veggie egg roll. The chicken was soft and flavorful. The rice was well seasoned with every grain separated...no clumping. I really enjoyed my meal except for the hot and sour soup as it was a little too vinegary tasting. The other parts of the meal was so overwhelming good, I decided to give grace on the hot and sour soup. I got my meal to go as I had more work to do. I will definitely consider returning to try other menu items.
Austin's dim sum scene is growing which back in 2006 when I first moved to Austin, was hard to find. Then now fast forward to 2025, it's getting much better. Happy to see New Fortune moved locations from its previous one, love how plenty of parking is available. Pros: All the normal dishes are fresh and amazing. From each individual dumpling, to the soft taro cake, to the tangy and spicy dumplings, every dish was great. I was very happy to try all my favorites such as the bean curd, the beef tripe, all the dishes are a must try. Great chew on all dishes, beautifully created each dish, fast service, and attentive servers. Every dish was a 5/5, you will not be disappointed. Cons: I will say, I had the dimsum at the restaurant and left overs for dinner. I have a very strong lingering msg dry mouth. I ate the leftovers without soy sauce and I still have a strong dry mouth taste. I know it's msg and to me, it's tooooooooo much msg, to me, the flavors are soo great, they don't need msg. I probably drank 2 cups of water. The dishes are expensive, I mean to compare dim sum in Austin from Houston or Dallas, Austin is expensive. I get it, if you want it, you have to pay it and prices here are too high. I get it so I can justify it. Har Gow for $7 wow, that's a lot, normally it's $4.95 but it is what it is. Most dim sum dishes I had experienced in the past range between $4.95 to $7 but to see the pricing across the board on all dishes high priced, it's fine to eat and try once in a while. Some of the dishes came cold, most dishes I would expect to come hot but some dishes came out cold which was disappointing but dam it still tasted good. I wish 4-5 dishes I got were cold to hot. For ex: the soup dumplings came cold inside, the fried shrimp was cold, the spicy dumplings were cold. Beef tripe was cold. But it's fine to try for my first time. Let's hope the 2nd time I try will be hotter.
Located right on the cusp of northwest Austin and Cedar Park, this newest dim sum spot satisfied my latest dim sum craving! The seating inside as well as the menu size isn't as big as the new dim sum restaurant in old Chinatown Austin (Tian Tian Golden Palace Seafood & Dim Sum), but I was pleasantly surprised our party of 3 arrived around noon on a Saturday and didn't have to wait for our seats. The second we sat down, the waiters rolled over their carts and we literally had food brought to the table within the first minute haha! In general though, none of the items we ordered exceeded my expectations. Again, they satisfied my dim sum craving but I was unfortunately not impressed by the flavors. I felt like the chicken feet and soup dumplings were a bit bland and some of the food items weren't as warm as I had hoped for. That being said, the service was quick and efficient today so I'd give my overall rating a 3.5/5.
Always enjoyed coming here, weekend dim sums are fantastic too! The food is great and authentic! I especially love the thinly sliced chicken breast!! Always feel like I am visiting Hong Kong again!!!
I think I've finally found a true authentic Chinese Food restaurant. For those of you who have been following me, you know I've been on a mission since 2019 to find a true authentic Chinese food eatery. I've had success with "Din Ho", and a few others traditional spots. While scrolling thru Yelp, I was attracted to the reviews of "New Fortune 2". Based on the reviews people were loving it. So we decided to give it a try. Arrived about 4:45 on a Thursday, seated immediately by "Eric", as there were only three other couples there. The set up is really nice. Tables are set rather close together so I can imagine when it's close to full occupancy it might be a bit crowded. Inside and outside the appearance is very unique. The interior is very clean, with an Asian theme. We ordered Orange Chicken, Combination Pan Fried Noodles with Beef, Chickenans Shrimp. We also had Pan Friend Pork Dumplings. I've been on a search for good Orange Chicken for years. My search is over. The Orange Chicken here is prepared perfectly. The balance of sweet and savory was perfect. We ordered it without the heat as my wife can't handle it. It was also served with a side of sticky rice. We got a fairly moderate portion of chicken, yet a small serving of rice in a little bowl. Could have used a second scoop of rice. The Pan Fried Pork Dumplings were delicious. Larger than most and packed with meat and flavor. The pork filling was tender and juicy. If I was hungrier I would have ordered more. I can't wait till I bring my friends and we sample more items on their vast menu. Apparently this is their second location. I am thankful that there's a dim sum place where you can get a cart service experience but I think this place is overhyped. The food was mid at best and sadly I have had better frozen dim sum. The soup dumplings were pretty good and I recommend going for that. Service was okay, I witness some tension between their own staff members.
Came here a month ago since there's not a lot of Dim sum here in the Austin area and per usual I'd have to say this is the Go to for Dim sum here. I went to the previous "New Fortune," and they are very similar, quite obviously, since they have the same ownership. My friend and I got here right when they opened on a Saturday morning, so there was not a long wait, and there was an abundance of food served on dim sum carts. We had to wave the service staff away since there weren't that many people compared to the amount of food being carted around. The dim sum here satisfies all of my cravings, especially all the dumplings (siu mai, har gow, soup dumplings, etc.). They also have great egg tarts, so much so that my friend ordered an additional set to take home. Whenever I get a dim sum craving this will be the place to go so we aren't driving all the way out to Houston.
This place always seems packed but the wait is never too long. Bustling ambiance during dim sum service with servers pushing carts. A bit more expensive than in CA where prices range from $3 up, this was still fairly priced. I tried the salt and pepper shrimp ($8). This was an 8/10 - even though not "hot" the shrimp weee light, plump and still crispy. Decent portion - this would have been plenty of food. (8/10) I saw Shaking Beef on the menu and couldn't not order that too. Huge portion and absolutely delicious! ($20). Perfectly cooked - highly recommend. (8.5/10) Lastly, on impulse I ordered the shrimp toast. 3 pcs for $7. These were a miss - super greasy. (3/10) I should have skipped that. The service was fine and the food carts kept coming by. I'll be back!
12.25.2025. My husband and I have been here a few times and our most recent visit was on Christmas Day. New Fortune was recommeded by friends who lived in Cedar Park and Austin for awhile. I was quite surprised to see a line outside the door on Christmas Day. The space inside is bright, spacious, and clean with tables ready to host groups of 4 or more. As for cart service dining it was a good experience. Overall food quality is good. Highly recommend ordering veggies from the menu as dim sum is mostly yummy carbs and some protein.
OVERVIEW: Great dim sum, excellent service, wide variety menu, and reasonably priced! We visited on a Thursday morning during their Tuesday/Thursday lunch special (20% off the entire menu, except for lobster and crab - as of 6/8/2025). Hot tea was also complimentary in the morning, which was nice. The location is a bit weird, tucked between a gas station and a boat dealer, but overall experience was great and I will revisit! QUICK FACTS: - Parking? Yes, their own lot with ample spaces. - Reservations? No, just walk in. There may be more of a wait on the weekends or during holidays. FOOD RATINGS: Overall, we enjoyed all of the dim sum we ordered minus the soup dumplings, which tasted like frozen Trader Joe's or Costco dumplings. The spicy wontons, shrimp rice rolls, har gow, and sticky rice were great! We ended our order with the sweet steamed egg custard buns and it was perfect.

Truly the best dim sum in Austin and I might even say best dim sum place I've ever been to! 10/10 would recommend! Service is quick, love the traditional feel and taste of dim sum! read more
I love that new fortune has the old-school cards and you can pick from it as they're going around. The food quality tasted good and the flavors were good as well. It wasn't outstanding, but overall pretty good. For example, the Cheung fen wrappers were too thick. The place is always very busy but the wait time is not bad because people come and go quickly. read more
Sweet heavenly bao! I missed this place! If you haven't had a chance to visit this place, stop what you are doing and get over here now! It is better than I remember. Went today with a couple of coworkers and it was all such a blur. The Greenbeans and Bok choy were perfectly steamed, sautéd, and dressed. I don't remember everything we ordered. It all came and went so fast. The scallion pancakes were crispy with the right about of saltiness. Shrimp dumplings were exquisite! Had this chicken with cilantro dish that was crispy on the outside and so so soft on the inside. And after proclaiming more than once that I was too full for another bite someone came by with some soup dumplings!! I forgot how much I loved them! And then and then we had some little mice shaped desserts and sesame balls. Staff was so friendly and helpful. The new space is spacious and comfortable. Looking forward to my next visit! Oh oh oh and the price! For six of us ordering past our fill it was only $26 pp before tip! read more
Nut allergy warning: Some dishes may have nuts, everything I ordered came out fine after we informed the staff. We came as a party of 3 and were seated with no issues on a Wednesday around 7:30PM. Finally, there was no line! But this was dinner, not dim sum. Order-to-Food Time: 13 Minutes for the Rice Noodles 19 minutes for the Squid Up to 35 minutes for the dim sum dishes (I think our pork buns got mostly forgotten). For three people, we ordered two dishes and three dim sum dishes. TL;DR: the dim sum dishes are ok, the others are pretty good. Stir Fried Rice Noodle with Beef: 4/5. Very sharable but not as much beef as I'd like. Salt & Pepper Squid: 4.5/5. Great portions, very tasty. A little stringy. Pork Buns: 3/5. Served as 3, not much meat inside but good flavor of Chinese barbecue. Szechuan Wontons: 3.5/5. For some reason these felt a little bland. Kind of pricey for only 5. Steam Pork: 2.5/5. A little too fatty for my preference. Service was very considerate and friendly, very family vibe with the jokes. I'd come back again but maybe not for dim sum, especially with a line. read more

It's lunch service on a beautiful Saturday, and you're with a party of three. After driving 45 mins across town for New Fortune 2.0, you walk in, as there aren't reservations permitted at New Fortune 2. You expect a wait time of at least 30 mins, but instead, your party is immediately seated. New Fortune 1.0 was my all time favorite dim-sum go to in Austin. When it closed during the peak of Covid, I was devastated. Although the restaurant hinted at a possible return, there was no official reopening date. Now, three years later, New Fortune 2.0 is back and hasn't missed a beat. Walking into the bustling, efficiently-run dining room filled with people and carts was a sight for sore eyes. Service was excellent and we were checked on often by hostesses and other staff members. We stuck to our favorite traditional dim sum dishes: Shu Mai, Shrimp Rice Noodle Rolls, and BBQ Pork Buns. We came, ate & conquered in just 35 mins-- less time than it took for us to drive there! NOTE: Prices at New Fortune 2.0 are based on the size of the dish. A plate of Shrimp Rice Noodle Rolls (large) costs approximately $7 each, while Shu Mai (medium) are around $5 per plate. read more
This was our first time since this place moved into the northwest cedar park location. It's good to know that they open early (10:30am), and dim sum carts on weekends! Our favorite places are either too far or no longer have cart service. At 10:30-10:45am, it sure was quite busy and glad we decided to stop in for an early brunch/lunch! There was no wait for the carts to come around, the tables are quite tight, allowing just enough wiggle room for the carts to squeeze through. The food was plentiful, although some of the dumpling skins such as the hargow were a little thicker than what I'm used to. The pork shui mai were sinewy with larger chewy chunks but very meaty and a nice size. The Chinese bbq pork buns and shrimp shui mai were tasty, the short ribs with black beans were tasty but very mild flavored. The lotus leaf sticky rice I thought could have been more flavorful, the rice screamed for help, flavorless with very little filling. The taro was overly crunchy but tasty. We may be back to try some entrees off of their menu. read more

Weekend service has the carts. People line up as early as 9am. For a party of 10 people we showed up at 11am on a Sunday. Next time we will treat it like tailgating and have chairs and a cooler. The wait was about an hour, but there are plenty of shady spots under trees to hang out in while you wait. Great service - the host and our server were so friendly and attentive. The carts have so much variety. Dirty plates are immediately cleared. The dishes were all amazing. Highly recommend you bring a big group so you can try as many things as possible. Definitely coming back. read more

Cleanest dim sum restaurant that I've been to, especially for one that offers cart service. Very busy on weekends, especially around brunch time. I'd recommend sending someone in your party to hold a spot in line before everyone else arrives (whole party has to be present to be seated). Lots of parking in front of the restaurant and in another lot to the side of the building. Very large menu with lots of dim sum options, but the shrimp in every dish was really overcooked and rubbery. Beef was also a little chewy but not bad for this type of restaurant. read more

Alright, so we've been to the original New Fortune and had them cater our wedding reception, so we're very familiar with the quality of food they used to put out. We wanted to try out the second version to see if it was good. From what we've heard, the owners of NF2 are different from the original owners of NF. We went here on a Friday evening and tried some of their dim sum dishes. Okay, so their dim sum dishes are very much average. They weren't bad, but they definitely weren't good either. For the price we paid, we felt ripped off. They cater to a mostly non-Asian audience, and the quality of their food reflects that. I can't imagine their dedicated Saturday brunch dim sum menu to be any better than what we had that night. We also ordered their Chinese broccoli and Walnut & Shrimp. The broccoli was fine, and the flavor and texture met our expectations. Their walnuts and Shrimp, however, tasted as if they added lemon to their cream sauce, which is disgusting. We couldn't figure out if maybe a cook had accidentally added the lemon into the sauce or if that was just how they made their dish. The sauce is supposed to be slightly sweet, but the lemon just threw the flavor off. It was so bad that we didn't finish it. The restaurant's interior is beautiful, but the lighting was a weird green that didn't match the decorative walls. The service was quick, and we were frequently offered refills on our waters throughout the evening. Overall, we will likely not return unless they drastically improve the quality of their food. read more

We went to New Fortune when it was in Lamar. Found it when it reopened after the worst of Covid. Sadly Covid killed it off and it closed. They reopened as New Fortune 2. It's literally almost exactly the same. The food is very tasty and is served hot with ginormous portions. We got the General Tso and egg fried rice. A perfect combo. The service was Chinese friendly which means they anticipated our needs which is refreshing. What was missing was the dim sum. That doesn't start until July 9th and we will be back. The dim sum served at New Fortune was amazing so I don't expect to be disappointed. read more
Been following the fortune chain of restaurants for a while as a local austinite, and I am glad they are back. The steamed rice shrimp rolls are superb, as they taste just like I remember them. The service is very quick and the staff are all super friendly. read more
Re: Soft Opening Hooray! New Fortune has reopened after closing during the beginning of the pandemic. Their new location is smaller than their former location. There wasn't enough parking in the lot, so my husband had to park in front of residential housing. Dim sum is now available during all hours. Dim sum carts are available only on the weekends. During the weekdays, you can still order dim sum a la carte. Minus one star because the hostess underestimated our wait time by 45 minutes. We were quoted 45 - 50 minutes, but the wait was actually 1.5 hours. Sesame balls and egg custard desserts weren't available on the push cart but were available to order off the menu. Two of the waiters were bad cart drivers and rammed into the back of my chair three times. The aisles weren't wide enough to drive carts, and I'm not even sure it would pass fire exit inspection. We saw turnip-cake while we were waiting but never saw them on the cart by the time we were sat. They must've run out. There weren't as many variety of dishes on the carts compared to their former location. But hopefully, they'll add more dishes as they get established. The gai-lan was just OK. The sticky rice wasn't very good. I've had better elsewhere. Everything else was really good. I'm glad they reopened! read more
I arrived promptly at 10:05 AM on a Sunday, just as the restaurant opened its doors (early). Surprisingly, there wasn't much of a line, but unfortunately, not everyone in my party was there yet. The restaurant was already seating guests, so I had to wait until my entire party arrived before putting our name on the waitlist. The wait lasted about 15-20 minutes. Once inside, I noticed the restaurant was small, with narrow spaces where carts could pass through. I was seated near the kitchen, which turned out to be an excellent spot as freshly fried dishes were being brought out, and I had the first pick. The air conditioning seemed to be struggling a bit; there were mini air blowers placed around the dining area. While I didn't find it uncomfortably hot, a member of the waitstaff kindly asked if it was alright to set up a mini blower near our table shortly after we were seated. We ordered several dishes, and overall, everything was quite good and reminiscent of what I remember from their original location. Fried items were slightly less frequent, and I didn't see any noodle dishes on the carts; I wonder if those need to be ordered separately off the menu. Around 11:20 AM, I noticed a smaller groups of people waiting, which might be something to consider if you prefer not to arrive early. However, this observation is based on just one visit. read more

Oh how every single person that walked through the door looked like they were filled with excitement. We went at 5:30p today (Thurs) but we dang well we'll be avoiding it for the next month or two because they start cart dimsum this weekend. All the time though, you can order off the menu dimsum like we did. Food was good. It tasted the same with exception of the fried shrimp balls which seemed a bit smaller and without a claw. Sui Mai was nice and fatty. Harcao had a decent size shrimp ball. Tripe was very flavorful. Ribs were tender and had gojuberries in it. The seafood lover in me got the best of me because we ordered Lobster Tail Fried Rice ($48) which the flavor was great but the lobster not fresh; bit mushy. They don't have fresh live seafood at this time so I recommend to get those later. We'll be returning for when they have the Dungeonous Crab though and believe this is because they're new and may not have a live tank just yet. Service was slightly slow - as expected they're trying to learn their table numbers and keep up with the constant flow of people coming in. Price: all the Dimsum is about $6-7 each which means it's cheaper than Shanghai but still Austin rent pricing. Be on the lookout for the new dimsum place, Tian Tian, that will be opening at New Fortunes original location at MT market plaza. read more

New Fortune is back and just as busy (maybe even busier) than before! I was so sad when this place closed because I used to go with my parents all the time when they would visit me during college, so it brings back a lot of nostalgic memories. You definitely should expect to wait a long time (we waited 35 minutes for a table for 4), and you'll have to wait even longer with a big group of people. However, dim sum is one of those meals that you should only eat with a lot of people because you can try a lot of things. Their tea is really good. I highly recommend ordering a pot of tea. Their dim sum is honestly pretty solid, and prices aren't bad. The four of us paid maybe $25 each? We got a decent amount of medium sized plates, and I walked out feeling really full. Recommend: - turnip cakes - egg tarts!! - congee + youtiao Skip: - beef rice rolls My only complaint is that their timing is really off. There are blocks of 5-10 minutes when there are zero carts out on the floor, so we're just looking around and waiting for food to come out. However, when carts do come out, a ton come out at one time so you'll order a lot. Their dim sum is seasoned really well, and I really enjoyed almost everything we got. Our waitress was really funny and super nice too. I'm definitely going to come back again. read more
This is the most authentic dim sum I've had in Austin so far! We arrived at noon on a Sunday and there was no wait for a table for 2, but by 12:30 there were tons of people waiting for a table. This is cart dim sum, so I was a little worried when we got seated right by the exit, but one of the owners actually stood right by us and made sure the carts knew to come and offer us food. We were trying to only eat a light brunch, so we didn't get everything we wanted, but we got to try the shumai, har gow, sticky rice, shrimp rice rolls, and turnip cake. Everything was good, and we especially enjoyed the sticky rice, which was a good texture and had plenty of meat. Next time we'll try the soup dumplings and the congee for sure! Including a pot of tea, the bill came out to about $40 for everything. Having had dim sum in a lot of other cities, I won't say this is the best dim sum ever, but it definitely satisfied my cravings. I would recommend this spot over the "bougie" (read: overpriced) spots downtown any day. read more
So glad New Fortune is back as it's the only legit dim sum restaurant in Austin! The new space is nice though I don't think as big as it was in the previous location. They still serve from the carts and the staff was all really friendly unlike many authentic dim sum restaurants I've been to. The food is good quality dim sum comparable to places I've been in Houston and Asia. Ones that stood out to me were their soup dumpling, shumai, char siu buns, cheung fun, sesame balls, and surprisingly the green beans, though we were surprised the vegetable dishes were the "specialty" pricing which was the most expensive. The wait was about 15-20 minutes at 1 pm on a Saturday which wasn't bad. There were some moments when the carts were getting a bit scarce and we were trying to flag one down to get a dish but that's part of the dim sum experience! read more
Absolutely the gold standard of Dim Sum! Beyond happy to know New Fortune is back, after being closed for nearly four years. I used to go to New Fortune after a night of drinking, and always appreciated their recovery food (Lol). The Location is now in North Austin, and is a nice restaurant compared to the previously had banquet hall. The food is still delicious, affordable, and worth it! Great service, and wait times can be up to an hour on weekends. So plan accordingly! Absolutely will be back for many times to come! read more

One of the few Chinese restaurants that serves Dim Sum and authentic Cantonese cuisine. We frequent this restaurant a lot and the service is great and enjoyed their Dim Sum and dinner entrees. Sautéed snow pea leaves, lobster with ginger and scallion on top of fried noodles, Peking style pork ribs, the clay pot dishes were good. Thoroughly enjoyed all the dishes we have tried there. We go there at least once a month to get our comfort food. Great ambience as well. read more
If you can, just come on Fridaysss! Because their weekends are crazily crowded. The weekend wait time is usually 45-60min and it's a chaos from the waiting room to the dining room. I tried going there on Fridays and I always got seated immediately, relaxing vibe and prompt service. Food is of course amazing, the most authentic dim sum I've found so far in town! read more

Came here on New Year's Day - it was slammed but we only ended up waiting about 15 minutes before getting sat. The staff is very organized and works quickly through the line. There were trays and trays of delicious dim sum that come around the dining room fast so your table is never empty. Good quality dumplings and delicious custard buns. Will be back here for more soon! read more

The beloved New Fortune has returned! They have a soft opening right now and I was lucky enough to have a friend get a table for me so I didn't have to wait. The line outside is long and they say it's about 45 min but it's really 1 hour 30 min. The taste of the dim sum dishes were good, though the wontons were cold (room-temperature). There is not a lot of variety and dishes seem to be more expensive than the old New Fortune. Space is very cramped. There is not a lot of space for the push carts to go through, so expect there to be some collisions with the back of your chair. They don't take reservations for Sat/Sun brunch. You may make reservations for large parties (6+ people). They have dim sum all day! Overall, I'm happy that Austin's dim sum food scene is growing but personally, I would wait until the line dies down to try again. read more

New Fortune is back and they have brought their game of dim sum and all their tasty dishes back to NW Austin! The fact that they're right by my house and it's a walkable distance is even better than having been formerly at the N Lamar location. We stopped by Friday on their second day of business and opening things and goodness, were they busy. We were prepared for a wait, and ordering 15 dim sum dishes on weekdays from their all day dim sum menu was via menu but it took a good while. Of course if we had known it'd have been 2+ hours maybe it wouldn't have been such a huge order I would've put in, but I give them grace for the Austin Asian community being so thrilled and showing up with their pocket books and their loyalty for this household staple! My favs were def the bean curd, Crystal shrimp dumplings and shrimp balls! I'm so so excited that there is legit dim sum cart service options in proximity of North Austin, and lunch special options as well! Parking is abundant, the owners and service was friendly and they are working hard to make sure everyone is getting their noms and taking care of business! Can't wait to go back again after the hustle and bustle calms down from grand opening! read more
We were craving dim sum and decided to try New Fortune. The primary selling point was that they have dim sum every day. Score! We were seated right away around noon on a Friday. It's a large restaurant but nothing fancy inside. The star of the show is definitely the dim sum. We ordered a variety of items. Had hope that this place would be good. It's not bad, but it's a one and done for me. The flavors and seasoning were just meh which saddens me as I'm always cheering on my fellow Chinese restaurants. Literally best dimsum spot in Austin. You know a spot is authentic when all the servers speak canto and they're playing a chinese cooking show on tv and you're surrounded by old Asian grandmas chowing down on chicken feet. Also the bill came out to $25 tax and tip included and we ordered almost everything off the dimsum menu. Run, don't walk here. Totally worth the long drive out of downtown. read more
