Hot and Sour Soup
Kathryn F.

We decided to try takeout. Chinese food options around here are limited. Service was accurate and polite. My husband discovered that they spoke Cantonese and thinks the food might've been better had he ordered in Cantonese. The food is ok, but definitely for Americans. The Hot and Sour Soup was the best of the dishes. It had the dried vegetables and tofu, but was bland. The Vegetable Chow Fun was a gummy, unappetizing dish lacking in any flavor. The Singapore Noodles had a bit of heat and curry flavor, but the presentation was unappealing and there were just a few random bits of carrot, one of pork and lots of egg. Just ok

-1 food sucks -1 bathrooms are really, terribly dirty -1 the service was awful. they were fast. and did i mention the food was bad? :)

New Flavors is a very authentic restaurant where the food exceeded expectations for the price! The one downside was the service-- I'm genuinely not someone who takes service into real consideration, but for those who do, this might not be the place haha. The Was immediately seated inside and the food came out quickly however. This is a great place to come for a quick, cheap, and filling meal! Some of the lunch menu items come with soup, a whole entree, rice, and a spring roll. You get a lot! The taste was also great-- definitely got the authentic / chinese flavors I was craving! I especially recommend the Szechuan Beef.

Wow. Where do I begin? I am heartbroken yet another gem I grew up coming to is closing. This city is losing its best spots just to make more apartments. Cmon... New Flavors has the best Chinese food on the west side. Their hot and sour soup is AMAZING. Tonight was their last night open, I brought a group of friends so that we could give them a good amount of business and everyone else had the same idea. It was packed. My friends were so sad that it was going to be their first and last time there. My grandma and I often came here for lunch, it's her favorite spot. The service is friendly, quick, fun and my heart was so sad hugging them goodbye tonight, thanking them for all they've done over the years! We will miss you New Flavors and no apartments are worth losing such a good spot.

The food was delicious. Our favorites were the bbq pork fried rice and the spicy tangerine chicken. The lady that served us was very sweet. I love the Chinese decor and how quiet this place is. It's super underrated. Only locals seem to o ow about it. Parking can get pretty full. Very nice place to enjoy some good Chinese food with the family. Will definitely continue to keep coming here.

Mar Vista is indeed fortunate to be home to New Flavors, a family owned eatery preparing authentic top quality Chinese food with a wide variety of dishes to choose from and all prepared to order deliverEd to the table fresh, hot and tasty. The dinning room is spacious and can easily accommodate large groupa. also there is available off street parking. Take away and prompt delivery are offered.

This is a family owned business that's been around for 20 years! So funny I was walking next door to Paco Taco's but they're closed on Mondays which made me try out this place I never knew existed! I also just got back from Hawaii so it was ironic that they have both Hawaiian and Chinese food lol! You get so much food for the price so I'm taking some to go for lunch tomorrow! This place is not fancy at all (3 stars and a lot of clutter) but the food is good hence the 4. They were super busy with pick ups. Some customers coming in to order have been going there for many years.

Price is good and the portions are more than shareable. Love the leftovers the next day. Service and ambiance is definitely there. I ordered a Heineken steamed veggies, shrimp fried rice and chicken chow mein. Definitely coming back.

This place is not bad, especially if you are really hungry and just want something cheap for a lot of comforting food. Service was fine, food came out quick. For $40 we were able to order three dishes plus rice, which was a total of 4-5 servings, what a good deal! We enjoyed all three of the dishes we ordered.

This location is definitely a authentic "fast food" Chinese spot. Think about a panda express but more mom and pop restaurant nothing too authentic but definitely hits the spot better than a fast food chain. The staff does have a thick accent but nothing that can't be understood. They have a great service, always refilled water and checked on our table. I recommend going during their lunchtime menus as it was so cheap and so much food. This is my go to spot when I'm craving Chinese food that's not panda express. No issues on food, great flavor, great portions, solid place. I hundred percent recommend.

Huge applause to the 'tenders, Colton and Roman, for being workhorses behind the bar. I always have mad appreciation for those who are able to multitask with so many things happening at once. We were seated quickly in a hip and classy, but very casual sitting area outside, and our server was extremely kind and helpful with menu questions from start to finish. Drink-wise, I ordered the frozen slushee, and it was delicious. For our food, we had the bread plate (delicious), green papaya salad (amazing balance of sweet and spicy notes), Brussels sprouts (on the spicy side, but so good), and potato wedges (great crunch, and the aioli was superb). We each got our own larger plate: I ordered the moo yang, which was absolutely terrific with a great balance of flavors. My spouse ordered the yaki udon and only had great things to say! The show-stopper of the night, however, was the s'mores ice cream. Order this. Just do it -- you'll thank me later! Plenty of parking nearby in lots, and so much to do in this area of Culver City! This will be our new splurge spot, as it's somewhat pricey overall, but *definitely* worth every penny. I can't wait to return!

Bartender was more interested in the Dodgers game, but eventually noticed us and told us to site wherever we wanted. Only 1 waitress seemed to be rushing to take everyone's order, but then I noticed there were at least 2 other waitresses. They didn't seem to do much except for slowly bus tables and help carry food out. Ordered the Monk's Manhattan, Lychee Martini and Mango Lassi. 2 drinks were delivered in good time with the third sitting on the bar for at least 10 minutes before I asked a waitress bussing the table next to us to bring it over. She didn't seem very happy that I asked. Cauliflower, lamb, rosemary naan and butter chicken were all delicious. I saw some chutney on other tables - that would have been nice. We decided after we had some butter chicken sauce left over that we could use some rice. Rice was brought right after we asked for it (nice). However, we discovered as we dug in that it was cold rice. Not just lukewarm - cold like it had been in the fridge. We asked for some warm rice. After about 10 minutes we were asked if we needed a box. We're just waiting for the rice we said. Oh, warm rice appeared right after we asked for it then - not sure where the rice came from. Was it microwaved? If it was in a rice cooker, why didn't it come immediately after we returned the cold rice? Very strange. Then we waited another 10 minutes for the check. At this point there was no one else indoors and maybe about 4 tables outdoors. All in all it was never very busy but it seems like resources weren't efficiently managed. Bartender could have dellvered drinks instead of letting them sit at the bar. Waitresses could be helping waitress overall. Anyway, it was good food but we don't need to go back.

But I was glad I came to this place. Love the atmosphere. It was energetic, a bit loud, and has a cooled retro night bar with neon signs. The alcohol display behind the bar was a spectacular view/design. It's high, making it looking pretty against the dim backdrop. We ordered four dishes, Dan Dan Mian, sichuan eggplant, chili wonton, and duck bao. The Dan Dan was unique. I didn't expect it to be spicy like all the other ones I've tried. But it was amazing! All of them were! Reservations are strongly recommended since it gets filled up pretty easily. Lastly, I want to give our waiter, Peter, a huge shoutout for being so attentive and engaging. There must have been 3-4 parties. That night the hostess divided diners and bar patrons between the "two rooms" (the restaurant has a bar in the middle that divided the room.) We let the hostess know that we were a party of two and she seated us between two large groups in the "other" room. It was weird seating to say the least. Our table was at the curve or the booth seating and was too close to another seated party. You needed to squeeze in to get to the booth seat and my +1 volunteered to scoot in a tight pathway. Because we were between the two groups, it was extremely loud. The restaurants aesthetic is really hip. I don't remember the space at the entrance, but the room that we were in had an eye catching mural and the booth area that we were seated in made a face (with the wall being a pair of eyes and the two long booth seats meeting to make a nose.) Unfortunately, lighting was very low and I could barely see the dishes for the second half of the meal. Food was tasty. We ordered the XO fatty noodle (no bean sprouts), orange chicken and Sichuan eggplant. Everything came out hot once they were ready. I had to hold back from eating all of the orange chicken. The XO noodles, not sure if it was because we customized the dish, was too salty though.. Staff were calm to expressionless. Person who came for the bill was wiping our table while we were packing our leftovers. I didn't appreciate how they stayed with us when we were paying on their handheld machine. Overall, I enjoyed the food, but did not have the best dine in experiences.

The grilled chicken with black pepper sauce was just so so in comparison. Gave it 3 stars because there were flies flying around the patio. Covered trash cans might reduce this problem a bit. Price is also on the higher side. $6 milk tea was not very worth it. And they charged you some sort of fee (see pic) that I wasn't aware of, did not expect extra fee when ordered at the location and not doordash.
