Chicken Wings
David S.

Tucked away into the corner of an older shopping center, next to the Goody Goody's liquor was what I thought might be a potentially good hole in the wall restaurant. Inside was clean with reminiscent Asian style wood tables. Place seats about 20 people or so max. The menu was printed on paper but there was also a marquee above and behind the register across the back wall. I decided to go with the $6.95 special lunch. I also ordered some chicken wings to go with it (8). Bill came to about $14 so economically it's a good place for lunch. As for the food, I have to say I was a bit taken back by yellow rice. Perhaps it's a new style I'm unfamiliar with. First thought perhaps it's couscous, then maybe Spanish rice, and then maybe saffron. But I believe it to be their version of steamed rice. Visually was not appealing, but the taste was fine. I prefer seasoned steamed rice if possible but normal steamed rice is fine by me also. Would have been plenty to split with my wife or kids. The chicken wings were crispy, served also with the same style of rice. Not flavored very well and might say a little on the bland side. The General Tso's chicken was flavored well, had a nice tangy flavor. I wondered whether it was actually orange chicken since it was breaded. In any case the flavor was decent. I am laughing a bit writing this because inside the restaurant is a sign that suggests you taste the food first before adding sauces to it (hot mustard, sweet/sour, soy, etc). I'd say the food could use some. I struggled to decide whether it's at two star or three-star level, but will round up as I feel like it's about 2.6. If someone scored it a 2 I wouldn't argue with them. The presentation just doesn't look great. Food average. Portions are great. Food took about ten minutes and it appeared they were cooking the food as the orders came in. The lady taking my order didn't seem to be particularly interested in answering my questions. She did seem a little nicer when I returned about ten mins later to take my food to go, I stepped out and walked up and down the center to try and burn a few calories. But a $7 lunch that would be enough leftovers to eat later is a decent deal, but buyer beware I'd put it maybe a half step above buffet Chinese food.

I was again very disappointed with my meal. It looked delicious but lacked flavor. It's unfortunate they are not consistent with the flavors of their food. Might want to taste and change recipes.

We have e been looking for a local authentic Chinese restaurant, so we decided to try New China out. The restaurant is located on the border of Highland Village and Lewisville which is a great location from where our house is located. When we arrived at New China it seemed to be somewhat busy ,though they still had plenty of tables to choose from. While we were looking at the menu a customer had picked up her food and noticed we were looking at the menu. She continued to tell us of how good the food is, and we would really enjoy it. This really made us feel like we may have found a new Chinese restaurant to add to our list. The restaurant appeared to be clean and kept up with and the orders of food were flying out the door with very short wait times. I ordered Szechuan beef with fried rice. I was a little let down, because it had one of the main ingredients left out which was the whole peppers to make this plate spicy by tradition. The peppers were substituted with flake peppers and the sauce was sweet which was a huge surprise. The fried rice was more of a brown rice. The portion size was pretty good for the price. I also ordered the egg drop soup, egg rolls, spring rolls and crab rangons which were excellent. My wife ordered sesame chicken with steamed rice. The sauce on this plate was a little sweeter then traditional Chinese sesame chicken but it was still good. We also shared vegetable lo mein which was very good and the vegetables were very fresh. The only thing I would love to see is that New China would switch to traditional whole peppers on all their spicy food plates. Instead of offering a small packet of chili sauce to spice the plate. The staff are very respectful and very nice. I look forward to another visit in the future. Thank you New China

The dish I had Singapore tasted stale, not freshly cooked made me very sick. Wontons raw tasting.

My favorite Chinese takeout in all of DFW. I no longer live nearby but whenever I'm in town I make sure to hit this place up.

Best in Flower Mound not even close, no debate. This area is hurting for foodie spots and New China is legitimate.

Portion sizes are great and they don't skip on the sauce, would defiantly recommend over Panda Express or pei Wei any day of the week

The hours are great for late night drinks and dinner, and service was very attentive and recommended some great bar food choices! Highly recommend the popcorn chicken, it was made with dark meat and had an extra crunch packed full of flavor. The ambiance was vintage and lux, perfect for a date night with some Vietnamese tunes that definitely sets the mood!

Food and service was good, but I wish they had their own yelp page instead of keeping the old one…read more Their old store was called Mei Wei and it was in Carrollton. They had bento boxes and dessert similar to Meet Fresh, and it was more of a casual, hang out spot. This new store is next to Ztao and they are more of a sit in restaurant. Their menu was short and when I asked if they had bento boxes, the waitress didn't really understand my question. Their menu consisted of.. 1. Main Entree $14.99 that came with rice, noodles, or congee 2. Soup $3.99 three options 3. Sides $4.99 several options No dessert menu, only a little stand on the table with taro pudding that costed $8.95. We ordered their braised pork chop, daikon meatball soup, and pig ears. Like I mentioned, food was good, but nothing special. You can only order the side and soup if you order one of the main entrees. This new store is nothing like their old store, just fyi.

The soup dumplings ended up having a sweet taste in the soup. The hot and sour soup was not sour at all, and I ended up, doctoring it a bit by asking for some vinegar. I would highly recommend against people ordering this if they're expecting the authentic Asian flavor profile. The beef noodle soup ordered medium spicy was not spicy at all and so next time if I ever go back, I'll have to get their extra spicy. And their tofu noodle soup did not have nearly as much tofu as the picture seemed to make us believe. The one thing I did really like was the wontons in the wonton soup so if I come back, I'll probably just be ordering that. Overall, I think I was expecting a classic Taiwanese flavor profile and was left wanting more.
