It was such a lovely surprise. I opened the door and it was a lot bigger than it looks from the outside and so clean! Even the bathrooms were super clean and they have toilet seat covers! Food was also solid. We ordered a bunch of different things to share - calamari, riblets, crab rangoon, edamame, chicken XLB, truffle pork XLB, crispy udon, green beans. Everything had really excellent flavor, not too salty either. Our server was so sweet! She always said, "you're so welcome!" And she was quick to refill our drinks without us even asking. We had a great experience here about five years ago, so we decided to revisit while we were in the area. Unfortunately, this visit left us disappointed for several reasons. First, many of the dishes lacked the authenticity. The hot and sour soup wasn't sour at all and was overwhelmed by the flavor of sesame oil. The black bean noodles tasted like instant noodles you could make at home, and we ended up adding black vinegar ourselves just to bring some acidity and balance to the dish. The sweet chili shrimp also didn't taste fresh. At the end of our meal, we literally said "this tasted like Chinese buffet food." The service and dining environment made the experience even worse. Throughout our meal, we constantly heard dishes being slammed around from servers cleaning tables. At one point, something was dropped so hard that dishes shattered across the floor. A trash cart was parked right next to our booth while we were eating, and the staff even started mopping the floor directly in front of us during the lunch rush. I understand that restaurants often hire seasonal staff during the summer, but proper training is still important. The way the dishes were handled throughout our meal was loud, chaotic, and disruptive, making it difficult to enjoy our dining experience. Delicious! It was our first time here and we didn't order a single bad thing! Our server was great at suggesting menu items we might like. Ended the night with the chocolate dumplings. So fun, very rich liquid dark chocolate in the middle. Idk if I'd order those again, but they were so fun! Only complaint is I wish they were open later! Back in Frisco, we came by for dinner last night. Still one of the better Asian restaurants around. We started with orders of the soup dumplings and the scallion pancakes. Both are fantastic. From there, we went with our old reliables...Orange chicken and Mongolian beef. The beef came out much sooner than the chicken, which was a bit odd. It would've been nice to eat them together, but we had pretty much finished the beef by the time the chicken showed up. When walking in here for Friday night dinner and seeing a bunch of white people filling up the restaurant I think that should've been our sign the flavor profile we were gonna get from here. The soup dumplings ended up having a sweet taste in the soup. The hot and sour soup was not sour at all, and I ended up, doctoring it a bit by asking for some vinegar. I would highly recommend against people ordering this if they're expecting the authentic Asian flavor profile. The beef noodle soup ordered medium spicy was not spicy at all and so next time if I ever go back, I'll have to get their extra spicy. And their tofu noodle soup did not have nearly as much tofu as the picture seemed to make us believe. The one thing I did really like was the wontons in the wonton soup so if I come back, I'll probably just be ordering that. This review is of the lunch specials at Kitchen Master. I also did take out. I originally came to this restaurant because I saw they had good lunch specials. I was heading out of town and wanted economical to-go quality food so I didn't have to cook before leaving town the next day. After arriving, I ordered and waited a reasonable amount of time for the to-go order. I purchased two lunch specials Mongolian beef and combination fried rice. The Mongolian beef came with soup, rice, and egg rolls. The Mongolian beef was delicious. My only disappointment was the quantity. I thought I'd get more food than I did even with this insane inflation. I also got the combination fried rice. I was very tasty too and the quantity size was better. The soup was ok and the vegetable egg rolls were fair. I will go back again because the food was delicious. Next time I will dine in. Hopefully the food quantity size is better. Made it back for a second try! This time, we had to try the walnut shrimp & beef soup. Honey walnut shrimp is one of my all time favorite dishes. I had it for the first time in San Francisco many years back & Im always comparing new dishes I try, to that first, amazing dish. Kitchen Masters version is definitely on the top of my list. First, the size & quality of the shrimp is excellent. The light coating adds a delicious flavor & crisp. The mayo is spot on; not too much & not too little, adding the perfect amount of creaminess & flavor. The candied walnuts are good, but a few bites were a little bitter. If they were coated & candied a little more, that added sweetness would delete any bitterness I experienced & would increase the level of sweet/ savory taste, making it an even better dish. The beef soup had layers of flavor. My husband enjoyed this dish, describing the noodles as fresh, homemade awesomeness! The broth was like a beef Pho base - I personally found it a little strong, but I am the chicken pho orderer. I asked him if he would order this soup again, and he said, "yes!" The cuts of beef were hearty, thick & tender - a good quality cut of meat with a hint of fat, that he enjoyed. Over all a fresh & flavorful soup. We will back again as there is so much more for us to explore on their menu! One repeat dish my husband had to have was the shrimp shumai. He loves this one! We did prefer the pork over the chicken however. After eating one of the pork dumplings first, the chicken paled in comparison. Our entrées included Sesame Orange Chicken as well as Sweet Pepper Beef. Be warned, the sweet pepper beef isn't just a name for the bell peppers in the dish, the sauce is also very sweet. The two chicken dishes were the standout entrées however. You know those sesame chicken pieces you get at the local Chinese buffet? You know the one's that are hard and gristly and have very little chicken hidden inside the dense breading? Not here! Both the Sesame and Orange chicken contained big pieces of pure chicken with just the right amount of both breading and sauce. They were wonderful and came in a good sized portion as well. 1.5 Stars Overall. 4.5 stars. I would avoid the chicken dumplings and just double up on the pork soup dumplings. We were on our way home and decided to grab an early dinner, and my wife found Kitchen Master on Yelp. It's like eating and Dickies then discovering Hutchins. The food here made me wonder if all the other Chinese food I've eaten was simply low level. No low level food here! We tried the fried dumpling sampler, the shrimp and pork soup dumplings, and the soft shell crab gua bao for appetizers. Best we've ever had! We also tried the mixed fried rice, Mongolian Beef, and Salt & Pepper Shrimp. The beef was so tender and flavor was amazing. The fried rice was obviously prepared in a seasoned wok, and was full of flavor. The shrimp were perfectly fried. The wait staff here were super friendly and accommodating. This has now been a go to spot for my family for Chinese food! The atmosphere is amazing with you being able to see into the kitchen to see their homemade dumplings being made from scratch. The service is always consistently good, and very attentive that you can tell they take great pride in providing a great Customer experience. The food is delicious all the way from the appetizers to the desert. My consistent go to appetizers is the dynamite shrimp, which is definitely some of the best that I've had, and the pork and shrimp dumplings are heavenly. It tastes fresh and is filled with flavor, and I feel like I could eat 100 of them and not get tired of it. Another great part about Kitchen Master is their portion sizes. When my entree arrives, I think there is no way I can finish, yet 10-15 minutes later it is all gone, and that goes for my whole family. Don't come here if you're hungry! The wait is LONG. When we got to the restaurant it was pretty busy, but we were seated quickly. Our waiter brought out our drinks and told us he'd be right back to take our orders. We waited 30 minutes and he never came back. He did come back to one table 5 times while we were waiting, and each time we tried to wave him down he just walked away. Picked up Lunar New Years dinner this year - it was a cold drizzly night so takeaway was the best option. After a :45 drive home, all dishes were still warm and delicious! Serving sizes were quite generous - we had tons of leftovers for the rest of the week. Ordered my husband the chocolate dumplings as he loves chocolate lol still not sure how we felt about those but he appreciated the effort. A five-star third visit. This place is an absolute gem and continues to deliver on authentic food, impeccable service, and vibrant ambiance. My only regret is that I did not discover them sooner. Casey and Melissa are wonderful people who have the knowledge and expertise to run a restaurant. Our go-to dishes are (and will continue to be) the Basil Chicken, Shrimp Shumai, and Custard Buns. Every dish is made-to-order and uses fresh, high-quality ingredients. My Mom and I eagerly anticipate each visit and will continue to dine here whenever we can.
