The broth was well seasoned and the dumplings were large and there were many in the soup and I got the small bowl. I got the Mongolian beef lunch special with the fried rice. The Mongolian beef was delicious. I added a little chili spice and it was perfect. This lunch was a 10 out of 10 and I will be back! read more

Man what a mistake - after a negative experience last time it's been a few years, maybe things got better since the restaurant claims their chefs are from China and their cooking methods are solid? Nope. We ordered take-out from a couple restaurants Sunday, and the only food leftover? 888 Cookhouse. Even the sesame chicken no one wanted a second portion, my daughter suggested I throw it away instead of keeping it as leftovers. The bad food here has just gotten worse. Avoid, there are a lot of bad chinese spots in Frisco but Kitchen Master on Preston or 88 Bao on ElDorado are good options. Don't waste your calories on substandard Chinese food. read more

Amazing food, incredible service, and nice ambiance. You are able to watch the chefs work, and the place is spacious and comfortable. I came here with my boyfriend and it was a sweet date spot! We tried a lot of food and it was all INCREDIBLY GOOD. My favorite was the boba. I didn't expect it to be so good. The classic milk tea with boba is one of the best bobas I have had. It might even be the best, but Id have to try them all side by side to be accurate. I drink a lot of different bobas, so that would be my credentials! My favorite food was my combo lo mein, of course. It allowed me to try many meats, my favorite was the beef! I haven't went to this place in a while so I went here to eat and ordered the fried rice the green beans and lo mein noodles and it is so good the fried rice is really good and flavorful and fresh and the lo mein noodles is very good and a lot of meat and the green beans is good and flavorful and you can taste the soy sauce. First and last time I'll go here. Their lunch "special" for $10.95 is a straight-up scam. We went on a Monday but even then we were the only ones in the restaurant. We ordered the Kung Pao and Mongolian chicken and what they serve you isn't even a lot of food. The Mongolian chicken tasted pretty good but the Kung Pao was just straight up celery and peanuts as in the photo. Fried rice tasted more like a brown rice and was lacking flavor and other ingredients that you would expect more of in a fried rice. And the egg roll that the special came with was cold in the center. Ambiance was okay and the service was okay, what you'd expect from any restaurant. I like the smaller cuts of chicken because it's similar to the rice and small veggies. I also got the chicken egg rolls and pork dumplings. Loved them. Went to this restaurant and dined in. My daughter had order to go but never ate inside. We had egg drop soup (forgot pic) came with crispy noodles. Veggie egg roll and crab rangoons, both were good, hot and fresh, side of sauce. We shared vegetable lo mein that we modified to have broccoli, carrots and cabbage and it was perfect. Last was orange chicken and requested white meat, it was hot, mildly spicy and fresh, so yummy! Staff was friendly and we will be back. My husband and I come here with some frequency and tonight's meal was better than usual. I think they give more attention to detail when the restaurant is not full. On a slow night food quality can go either way for any restaurant but I think for Cookhouse it skews for the better! I highly recommend coming on weekday nights. Don't be put off if you're a foodie and see the place is empty, the food you get may be better this way as I found out tonight! Also a tip about quality: if you get any fried dish like orange chicken or general Tsao anything, please eat it in the restaurant. The quality is spectacular right out of the fryer but somehow turns into regular average Chinese take out after you bring it home in a container. For their prices, it's worth it if you get the good experience of dining in but you'll be disappointed you paid so much for what seems like regular food if you take it home. Total find for authentic Chinese food in Frisco! My daughter happen to be taking art classes on the other side of the strip. So glad we stopped in to grab some food. The space is a lot bigger than it appears from the outside. There were 3 screens on the far wall, something to entertain everyone! We however were too busy digging into the food. Of course we needed to order soup dumplings (a must!). What's different here is that the bamboo steamer comes with 10 smaller soup dumplings! They are filled with soup so you need to be ready for piping hot soup! We also got sautéed string beans and what we loved was the seasoning. I can't describe it but it's amazing. Very well cooked. We also ordered the beef and broccoli (our litmus test). The meat is thinnly sliced and super tender. The sauce was so good, we ended up putting it on the rice. It's that flavorful. We also got cucumber salad for appetizer (it was over 100 deg outside so we were wanting something refreshing). It's garlicky and has a wonderful crunch! We ordered from here since Kitchen Master was already closed at 7:45, the great reviews sort of reassured us that the food was going to be tasty and of good quality. We ordered to go: Beef Lo Mein, and Orange Chicken. The Beef Lo Mein was extremely greasy, with barely any of The described veggies and the "beef" was pinkish with a weird texture, like if it was cubed to the extreme. The sauce taste was off, usually the dish is done with a soy sauce base, and maybe this one was but it didn't had the signature salty flavor and the meat was just terribly seasoned with a sweet hint. Ugh, Chinese food is really hard to mess up, but this was just terrible and the amount of oil left on the container after serving was gross. The orange chicken had way too much breading, the sauce was super thick, and it had a reddish tint like it had some food coloring added. The fried rice was meh, but probably was the best thing out of these three items, I don't get how they have such great reviews; this was by far the worst meal we had in a very long time. I must say I had high expectations and the experience did not include anything bad. But it was not anything to Rave about either. The food was good, but not fabulous.. and one of the most mature things we can ask it seemed to be like most other places I had experienced Chinese food. There was not much flavor difference between the two dishes that I ordered. Kung Pao beef and happy family were the two dishes that I experienced. The restaurant itself had the industrial finish, but felt much like a cafeteria rather than a restaurant. Lots of space and lots of tables but it did not feel cozy or welcoming. The service was fine but not remarkable. It's worth checking out, and I will return but only if it's convenient.. it's not the type of place I will travel across town again to visit. read more

The food was good and the service was excellent. Our hostess was very polite and she knew her product. The menu is simple and if you need a good description of what is listed just ask. We did and we received good information to make a decision. My husband and I ordered the Happy Family. It was enough for the two of us. We started with the chicken egg rolls with sweet & sour sauce. It was good also. We will be back and try another dish. I liked what we had because I do mot like a lot of spice or salty foods. This was very good. The establishment was clean and not noisy when we had our dinner after 6:00pm on a Wednesday evening. The price is moderately priced. I would recommend giving this place a try. read more

Updating my review to 4 out of 5 now. Recently just came here, and while the flavors are there, the cooking execution isn't as apparent as it was during the opening phase. The "wok hei" is missing which is what sets good chinese food apart from acceptable. "Wok hei" is the art of the heat of the work, the oils, and all of the sugars coming out of the sauce mixtures to come together and create this smoky/sweet essence. May be shopping around for another spot, but so far this one's still one of the better Chinese spots in the area. read more

We love this place. They not only have the best food (i.e., spicy popcorn chicken, braised pork belly, sautéed green beans) but they are also very friendly. Clean and spacious. And TV's with sports for people like us who did the cord-cutting. Been coming here for more than two years I think and I think they might have the best Chinese food (especially if you like spicy food) in DFW. Highly recommend it. read more
