I have been hungering for really good, cheap Cantonese style barbeque ever since I moved to Denver. Hong Kong BBQ on Federal is decent, but the quality was not as great as I wanted or expected. Therefore, when I saw the ad for New Canton BBQ on the front page of Colorado Chinese News, I was excited and went over the next opportunity I could. When I walked through the door, you could instantly tell that it was a family joint working very hard to make the best Cantonese style BBQ in the Denver area. Unlike the sad, emaciated, and dry roast ducks you would find at Pacific Ocean or Hong Kong BBQ, there were at least a half a dozen gleaming, juicy ducks on display. That's not to mention the huge roast pork next to it and some soy sauce chickens hanging below. That was just the start. Step to the right and you saw their steam trays, filled with Chinese sausages, duck wings, seasoned pork intestines, etc. Right then and there, I knew this place had great promise. I ordered a rice plate with roast duck and roast pork as well as a to-go order of duck wings. I ordered in my semi-fluent Cantonese, so some things got lost in translation (the owner thought I wanted fried chicken wings instead of duck wings). You could also tell that it was a new restaurant trying to work the kinks, as there were no sauces that came with my rice plate and soup came afterward. They also had some confusion on whether my order was for here or to go. (The teenage daughter of the owners was the one speaking to customers in English) However, the food came out great! The duck was juicy and the roast pork had that perfect balance of fat and crunch. It was almost to the quality I would get in Southern California. I tried the duck wings later at home and they were great as well (and even better than what I could find in San Diego). The price? That was a steal. $6.95 for a large rice plate with soup. Even better? They are running a special of $2 for 10 duck wings! That is an unbelievable bargain (and it's hard not to see that price rise to at least $5-6 because 20 cent marinated duck wings/feet is a deal I don't fore see staying long). At the end, the owners were very nice, cleaned up my table, and bid me goodbye. With good food and great prices, what is not to love? read more

It's often hard to get good Cantonese BBQ meats in Colorado. New Canton is topping the list! We went and ordered a duck, some bbq pork, pigs ears, and some gyoza. Everything was very fresh and they even made the gyoza to order! The stuffing was gingery and delicious. The meat was a good price, I would say the same as POM or any of the markets that sell roasted meat. The pig ears were SO good. Crunchy, spicy, tangy, lots of cartilage- I could have eaten the whole box by myself. The one thing I wasn't a huge fan of, surprisingly, was the duck. There was almost too heavy of an anise or 5 spice flavor to it. This threw off the savory balance into the sweet side... I guess I prefer mine a little bit saltier. The duck had a good amount of fat though, and it wasn't dry or stringy like some other places. VERDICT: Heavy rotation for this Asian! read more

Newly opened next to H. Mart. Living in Aurora and being from Hawaii, the drive to federal blvd has just been too long and far for me on a sunday grocery day, but this place caught my eyes. Hole-in-the-wall Cantonese place right beside H-Mart in Aurora. My parents were excited to try this new place since it wasn't open the last time they visited Colorado. There are only three tables available for dine-in, so either get take-out or be comfortable being elbow-to-elbow with other patrons. We arrived right around lunchtime and the place quickly filled up: two parties had to sit at the same table because there were no other tables available. We ordered our food at the little counter with the different menu items listed above the counter. All the roast duck, roast pork are cut to order. My mom and I got the roast pork and rice plate while my dad got roast duck. Personally, I thought the roasted meat was decent: not mind-blowing amazing but still a good warm meal. For the food, and only the food, this place is an easy 5 stars. But isn't that what a restaurant is supposed to be about? There is no decor, or ambiance, or even seating really (barely room for the 3 tables they have). This place is setup for takeout only, but if you have to eat there you can. That said, everything we had was amazing flavor wise. Best Canton BBQ Pork in Denver. The crispy pork was also outstanding, yet in a different way making me want to order both every time I go there. The Duck was also very yummy, though if I had one thing that was imperfect here it would be that the duck skin isn't as crispy as peking duck, but its just a different style. If you're adventurous, they also offer chicken feet, multiple types of intestine, pigs ears, and many other savory bits. I'd say, if you're ever in the area you should definitely stop by and get a pound or two of delicious meet to go. You won't be disappointed. read more

Ehhhhh. If you're in the mood for some Cantonese food, this place isn't horrible, but it's not amazing. The roasted duck is decent. The pig intestines were good, tasted on point. Hole-in-the-wall type of place, but the food and its flavors really reminded me of some of the food in Hong Kong and homemade Cantonese food in general. I believe I had the Roast Duck Noodle Soup. I haven't had that type of noodles in years ever since my family moved to US. It really brought back a lot of memories. While the soup base might have been a little bland, but it was light and aromatic. The roast duck was also reminiscent of simple family restaurants in Hong Kong. We also had a order of Char Siu, and I am a sucker for BBQ Pork, Roast Duck, Char Siu, and etc. I loved it. The flavor was on point, and the Char Siu was still tender. My go to duck place in Aurora! I only ate the duck items on the menu so I can't speak behalf of the other food. The duck wonton soup is perfection. Those wontons alone are delicious but the whole meal itself is to die for! And it's cheap so that's always a perk. I am always about supporting small businesses and this one I plan on being a regular at. Skip out on the eggrolls. They have that slimy inside taste to them. At first glance, this place looks good. They have the ducks on display, so I ordered a 1/2 duck. They chopped it up with a cleaver and put it in a box. I sat down to eat it and opened the box filled with duck. But to my disappointment, it was room temperature, which frankly made it taste gross and was an insult to good Cantonese food. My friend liked his soup; it was served hot. Unfortunately, serving lukewarm food is unacceptable and quite unappetizing. Try harder! read more

If you grew up in a place with Cantonese cooking you'll feel right at home. Seeing the roast pork, char siu and roast duck hanging under the heat lamps transported me back to the meat markets of Chinatown in Honolulu. My first taste did not disappoint. The roast pork is juicy and has perfectly crisped skin. The salty/anise rub on the meat side enhances the porky flavor of the meat which is kept moist by the layer of fat beneath the skin. The char siu has that unique flavor you can only get from a marinade prepared with fermented soy bean curd. This is not that sweet red glaze you find in bottles in the grocery store. The roast duck is a perfect addition to a steaming bowl of won ton noodle soup. The soup and noodles balance out the richness (fattiness) of the duck. The pork won tons are legit on their own. The Congee (rice soup) is a hearty porridge of pork broth and rice. Good on it's own; better when you're picking from your take home order of roast pork, char siu or pig ears. I haven't made it to the noodle dishes yet, the noodle soup and congee keep distracting me. I always take home a couple of pounds of roast pork and char siu to dress up the ramen or just a hot bowl of rice at home. The place is small; only 3 tables inside so get there early or get take out. read more

This place is legit. It is next to the Asian Super market off of Parker just south of Yale. I ended up trying the BBQ pork Fried Rice and the BBQ Ribs. The Fried rice was good, nothing to write home about but worth what I paid for. I tried the BBQ ribs as well and was delighted to find they where quite good. They use a Hoisin BBQ Sauce. The Family who runs it are very nice and if you get something that needs to be prepared they will do it on the spot. This is a great place for the adventurous or for those who want some decent Chinese BBQ in Colorado. Next Time I plan on trying either the duck or the Soy Chicken. read more

We were regulars to this place and have recommended them to our friends and coworkers in the past, and it's sad to see how the quality of food degenerated. The portion got smaller and smaller in our recent visits, and there was barely any pork in the bbq pork fried rice. They were making some large catering orders and scooped us two spoons which each cost 10 dollars. Small portion and mostly rice, and it lacks flavor, below average. The only things I have tried from here are the duck and the crispy pork.. and the crispy pork is SOOOO good. I'm not a huge fan of duck in general, so will most likely be sticking with the pork. The Best Ethnic Food comes from a literal hole in the wall. This place has 3 tables inside and one on the Patio. Tiny Place, HUGE FLAVOR! Tonight I got chicken feet and half a roast duck. Yes, I am not afraid to eat most things. They Always have Whole Roasted Ducks that are absolutely delicious! The noodle dishes are wonderful. This little place is solid! We also like their fried rice. They also have Pork Spare Ribs which are delicious. No, I'm not Kosher or Halaal, but I'd dine with ANYONE! I'd say all in all, we have probably been here 10 times in the last couple of years. I really ought to make this a more regular occurrence. I also like the owners. They have a lovely energy about them, like most hard working people do. Go support them please! The guys that run this place speak both Cantonese, Mandarin and some English. They have 2 or 3 tiny tables you can sit at but this place is mainly for takeout. I ordered a pound of the BBQ. Been scrolling through yelp and found this place with Chinese good and Asian roast meats in the window, it felt like home. My friend and I ordered the beef chow fun and the half roast duck. The roast duck was good and what I was missing from home, but the chow fun was just okay. What I found interesting was the Asian ladies at this restaurant spoke English which most of the ones back home either didn't or had very broken English. We saw hanging roast pork and ducks in the window and I knew we had to give this place a try. We ordered both, and though both were delicious, they were also very greasy. Of course, that's part of what you'd expect from those cuts of meat...but we had to create a pile of fat on the side of our plate that we just couldn't eat because there was just so much of it. My pork was also room temp, borderline cold which made it a little less appetizing. Nonetheless, the pork skin was crispy and crackled as it should be, and the duck was flavorful and moist. I love everything about this place. I love that it is a small family run place. I love how comfortable and welcomed the owners and workers make you feel. Most of all, I love the food. I love the duck soup the most. It has the slim egg noodles, dumplings, bok choy, and duck. I won't lie, they are a bit 'careful' with the duck. PLEASE PUT MORE IN! Otherwise, the best I have had. This is a small mom and pop shop. The restaurant is really small. It has about 4 tables so take out is the way to go. Not the best Chinese BBQ I've had but it is definitely really good for the price. You can get duck, BBQ pork or roast pork over rice for a cheap price of $6.95. Definitely a great cheap lunch. I would recommend the BBQ pork as it had the best flavor. They also offer other unique dishes such as chicken feet, pig ears, intestines and duck wings.
