The only reason I gave Neimans two stars is because of a wonderful Laura Mercier manager Arlene. She saved them from the ominous one star rating. OK so I have tattoos...is that a reason to be openly rude to a potential customer? Little do they know that I am a product junkie and $250 face cream does not scare me. MENS: I have found that the salesmen (excluding women, not due to sexism) are very to themselves and unhelpful, that is unless you are starting to spend $500+ or look like a Japanese tourist (racism not intended). I appreciate that the Ala Moana Neiman's has a somewhat wide selection of men's clothing, but service would be great. BEAUTY: Great service all/most of the time. Trust me ladies, if you think this NM has attitude, you should try ones in SoCal or on the East Coast! They put the Hawaii sales associates to shame in the attitude department! Every sales associate I encountered in this store has been nothing but pleasant thus far, and in most cases, extremely knowledgeable about their product - from ladies' shoes to the fragrance counters and every other department in between (even the candy counter by Mariposa). Yes, this is definitely "high end Honolulu". Yes, there are definitely employees that have given their fair share of attitude (not to me, witnessed them giving it to other customers). I am deducting a full star on two accounts: (1) there ARE those "attitude" employees (you know who you are) and (2) most of the sales associates take quite a while to actually approach people when they enter a department. 1 of 4 actually has good timing - not right when you arrive, but giving you 2-3 minutes to browse before introducing themselves and asking if you need anything. I am partial to Nordy's (hey, I worked there for 4 years)...but NM is is a great place to people watch, find quality designer wear, and find brands that are not available most other places. 4 shakas. :) read more

On or close to the edge of extreme high end department stores sits Neiman Marcus. Expensive? Yes. High mucky-muck? Yes. I'm sure if I was hella rich, this all wouldn't matter too much to me and the rating would be higher, but unfortunately I'm not. Like a few others have noted, their butterflies above their escalators are really, really cool. I like that a lot, one of the better displays in a department store that I have seen. Second, they do have the largest, nicest, cleanest bathrooms that you will see outside of your own. Need space? You got it. Need quiet? You got it. Clean? Usually exceptional. Funny yeah? Many of the items here are high end clothing. I don't think I have ever bought something from here. It's just THAT expensive. So I shop at NM alot...they have good sales at the CUSP (Contemporary) section...I'm a LA girl so yeah I'm a brand whore. Considering I'm a college student and work at the mall...I still am...No SHAME! Anyways the ladies salon has always depressed me as I wanted a pair of CLs so badly...they never had my size or the style I wanted...but I met the best person there. His name is Ryan Higa and trust me...he made my dream come true. Usually if you go to the ladies salon and they have a shoe in the lookbook you have to pay for the shoe, then they ship it to the store then you can try it on. It's absolutely ridiculous because if you are like me you have to try on the shoes before you buy it. I don't care what they say. Anyways Mr. Higa made sure that they ordered the shoes I wanted (without me having to pay) transferred it to NM Honolulu and I tried it on and bought it. It was a perfect fit and he was the only one who really bent the rules around to make sure I got the perfect shoe. (Ok that's my story) About the store: Neiman Marcus is not the place for people who shop at Forever 21 and cry when there is a shirt for $30.50..it's not for you. If you think that Wal-Mart's clothing selection is exqusite...just don't bother. Don't bother coming in cause you might have a heart attack. For brand snobs like me it's the perfect place to get your fix of Alice + Olivia, Theory, DVF, Helmut Lang, Herve Leger, whoever you like! I know that sounds really elitist...but yeah it is. Honestly it's a super high end store and most of the people who work here act like their is gold coming out their butts, but there are a couple gems in the rough like Ryan Higa...omg there is another lady who works in the ladies salon...sweetest thing forgot her name...I'll go again and remember it. Anyways as soon as I do my loads of shopping with 2-3 full Neiman Marcus bags everyone attitudes change towards me. (I'm used to such pretentious behavior..it's common in LA so it doesn't bug me anymore) I love the selection of beauty products they have! La Prairie has this amazing night cream with algae..amazing! They have an extensive selection of designer perfumes for both men and women so you can always find something. Oh and did I mention the amazing restaurants (Mariposa under construction) that they have? Honestly...you can be in this store for hours. The SAs here really do make sure you find what you are looking for...and if you can't then they help you as much as they can. Also! If you want a clean bathroom with a nice vanity area to sit and re-apply your makeup with good lighting...they have it. Wow, this place was awesome! Yea, I totally agree with a lot of the reviewers. You try going to NM back in California and I guarantee you, you won't take this place for granted. I was looking for a specific kind of sunglasses for my Hawaii trip. I've been looking for them for the longest time because they were sold out EVERYWHERE! (It's the chloe 2119 in myrtle if you're wondering what kind) I first went to Nordstrom because they have an awesome sunglass shop. Unfortunately, they didn't have them there so I took a shot and walked into NM. The lady that was working at the sunglass counter was already with another customer so I decided too look around first before asking. Lo and behold, I found them!!! Right when I found them, another lady came back and asked me how i was doing. She was so sweet! She took them out of display and told me they were the last ones. I decided to get them but I discovered a scratch on the lens. So she searched high and low and finally found a brand new untouched pair. We chatted it up about how cute the sunglasses were and she wrapped it up and I was on my way to the beach with my brand new sunglasses. :) read more

Let's face it. Ala Moana Center is HUGE! Taking shortcuts, meaning walking from one side of the store to the other side is the best option to get to your destination. While looking for the exit, I was approached by a very rude employee. I accidentally made a mistake of not going to the second floor because I thought there was an exit on the third floor. In fact, their entrances look the same. This employee asked, "Can I help you? Need anything? I can hold your bags." I said no and when I used the elevator to go down the second floor, she was right behind me. Ummm...must have issues because all I care about is using your store as a shortcut. I don't care about your overpriced merchandise. I can probably make better merchandise with the craft items that I have in my house and sell it for way cheap. This review is for Neiman Marcus cafe. We were looking forward to eating here at the cafe after taking out the lobster sandwiches during the pandemic. The host was courteous and seated us after we waited 15-20 minutes; however, those who were seated after us were waited on and gave their orders before us. We finally had to talk to the host before we received service. Some of the cafe's menu items were not available because Mariposa is open. I will not be shopping at Neiman Marcus anymore. Their return policy is strict. I bought Lancer cosmetics and tried to return or exchange it but they would not accept returns once it's opened. I had an itchy rash from using it and it's been six days. I haven't healed yet. Sephora, Bloomindales and Nordstrom accept returns of opened products except Neiman Marcus. Everyone in this high fashion department store are dressed well and are so friendly and polite! There are two of the best sales associates I always do business with or look forward to see their smiling faces. Chris is upstairs near Mariposa Restaurant and I love stopping by to check out all the snacks! From Yoku Moku's to chocolate covered potato chips. Then in the mens department upstairs there is a wonderful sales associate by the name of Blake. I have gotten to know him over a few years so I am comfortable enough to call him blakey. He assists me in every department I need to purchase anything. Childrens department for my daughter, all of her cute dresses, down to the women's section for a sharp suit or anything from my Natura Bisse face wash to a pair of Christian Louboutin pumps. He does it all ! One personal shopper that is AMAZING and gives great opinions that matter! The Mariposa restaurant has the best chef as well! When I dine there, Chef Marc comes by and greets us...always makes us feel like we are a part of his family. He has a way of politeness that you just cant help but stop in and dine there to catch up with him. He has the ALOHA spirit deep within. I love all of his creations as well. Went there the other night to place a takeout order . I was craving the crab salad but unfortunately they don't serve that on their dinner menu . So when I went to place a take out order the host kindly says "sorry ma'am but that is only available on our lunch menu . So I was kinda bummed . I took a look over the dinner menu and didn't see anything I wanted to eat so as I was giving him the menu back he said let me check if the chef will whip one up for you . I waited and he came back to say he said it'll be no problem. Now Thy is AWESOME SERVICE!!! I decided to eat in and give them business instead as they went the extra mile . I ended up getting their salmon and shrimp bisque soup and a cocktail. I sat on the balcony watching the boats and sun set . The ambiance as lovely and staff was fantastic. I was so happy that I felt to give a 40% tip . Just goes to show u some ppl really appreciate when u go out of your way to be helpful!!! I will be back !!! soon !! read more

This store has everything you want and more. From valet service, to high end items. They never seem packed, since nobody can really afford their things... It's great to be able to walk into their store and walk out without having to wait in long lines. Their staff are very eager to help you yet not pushy. 5 stars for the lovely ladies who work downstairs in the cosmetics and fragrance department. They are so polite and attentive and extremely knowledgeable. They take time to listen to your wants and needs, and then suggest and let you sample products they think might match your requirements. 3 stars for the men's department. I think I own more clothes than they sell...I know hawaii doesnt have a huge men's fashion scene, but they can at least have more than a few racks of clothes. Sad. Also, some of the men's clothes employees are somewhat snobby and judgey. So what if I want to shop in my jammies!? 4 stars for the men's shoe and sunglass area. The employees are much more friendly and very helpful. They even put sunglasses on hold for me for a week till mom got back from a business trip (I needed her to make a donation). Overall, a more or less pleasant shopping experience. Wish the men's section would be a little bigger, but I understand that this is Hawaii and board shorts and slippers are more desirable than Tom Ford and YSL. I was at Sephora testing a perfume but didn't get it. I figured I would walk around a bit, but the nagging thought that I didn't buy it bugged me. I found myself at NM. I was quickly greeted as I browsed the counter. The sales associate was helpful and friendly. I found what I was looking for and it came in a gift set so even better. I was looking at some other fragrances and the sales associate that had expertise in that line didn't hesitate to give me a lot of different samples from that line. There's nothing like walking into a high end department store and while engaging in conversation with the sales associate, hearing 2 local women laughing like hyenas. I felt embarrassed for them but they didn't seem to see anything wrong with it. I guess they were buying perfume to go with their beach attire. read more

One of the stores on my "must see" list when I was at Ala Moana on my last visit, if only to check it out! I had good customer service in the men's department by an older gentleman. He even let me know about the upcoming additional reduction on clearance items if I came back, instead of trying to make the sale that day! This Neiman Marcus is the biggest I have personally been to, and their brand selection is pretty top notch. I really enjoyed the extra large Epicure department which had a big wall of wine to go along with the extra special "exclusively for NM" locally-made goods (like butterfly-shaped Honolulu Cookies). The in-store Van Cleef & Arpels boutique is a dark-walled jewelry box, definitely very Parisian, with a very personable saleswoman. Neiman Marcus Hawaii even has their own website which lists their restaurant menus, designer/brand index, upcoming events, and more. It also helpfully includes which brands are exclusives in Hawaii. Why not five stars? Because I couldn't really find anything I loved for a price I would pay. But if/when I am richer, I'll be more than just a browser! read more

Love the products, love the service in some departments but really couldn't stand some sales people in that store. I am a frequent shopper at NM. The departments I shop at usually have excellent service and many of the staffs became my friends. Went to the Men's department once with my boyfriend and being treated and followed like we couldn't afford, it was the worst I have got from them. Some staffs really judge the way you dress and they would look at you from head to toe. Service like that is not acceptable. The truth is people who could afford it would buy the products anyway, these people don't need to put on a suit to impress the sales people in store everyday. read more

Massive Butterflies by the escalator is always pleasure to watch. I have once went in there just to take a picture. Neiman marcus always been thought of an expensive store. they have many designer clothes and shoes. it's not cheap but quality is there. Customer service is excellent there. once you stop to look at some product they are rushing to you to ask if they can help you with anything. i mean they have good reputation to keep for such a high retail store. You can also have lunch at Mariposa which the food is good. if there is anything wrong with the food or something you don't like tell them your opinion. They will be happy to help you to be satisfy with your food if not give your money back. I like to use their restroom (TMI?) if i have to in the mall. it seems very cleaner then the mall restroom. i keep on coming back here for the same reason. read more

Erm....I would've given it 4 stars had it not been for some attitude I witnessed given to another customer while I was there. Fortunately I had pretty good service, although the woman who was assisting me seemed a bit clueless about a product I was inquiring about and had to ask someone else. As far as shopping for cosmetics, I'd rather go to Sephora where the staff is enthusiastic and always available. Seriously, lose the attitude. What can you say about this place? It's heaven!!! I could spend all day here. There is a cafe downstairs. You can have a little coffee before you shop til you drop. After, walk over to the shoe department and enjoy everything from Louboutins to Jimmy Choos. Take a right, and you can check out some Givenchy or Balenciaga bag collection for the season. Take the escalator to the top and have some lunch at Mariposa. The view is incredible. You can make rsvp on opentable.com and get points. After lunch, check out some womens high end clothing line like Dolce & Gabana, Marni, Giorgio Armani, etc... #sigh Time to pick up the car from their very own valet service and head on home to hide all my receipts from my husband. I have always eschewed this store as maybe too expensive for me and thinking I would feel schlumpy walking in there in my jeans and slippers. I don't know, I just really had it in my head that I would feel really awkward there. But I really needed a GOOD pair of walking shoes and some good advice picking them out. The sales lady that helped me was so solicitous and friendly and I really wasn't so out of my element as I had feared. This is going to be short because our experience was short. We entered the store hoping to check out some gear that We've been eyeing out for some time now. When We asked a sales associate about the next double points deal for the credit card, two associated looked us up and down (We had just came from the color run post-shower) and said that We needed to have a credit card. Interestingly enough, I told them that our party had one and they proceeded to act surprised and tried to sell us the most expensive product. We walked out quickly. Neiman Marcus is the most expensive department store in Hawaii. They sell a large variety of items ranging from clothes, to cosmetics, and to specialty foods. I often shop in the specialty foods section for the unique snacks and gifts found there. There are even two restaurants in the store, though I've only tried the Mermaid Bar once for lunch. The staff here seems pleasant enough, though, most of the times I've come here, they are usually pretty cold towards me until they find out that I am going to purchase something. Sometimes they even follow me as if I'm going to steal something! Perhaps it's just because I'm young, but I resent this sort of treatment.... Salespeople can also be really pushy when trying to sell their credit card as well. read more

I'm not rich and I can't afford a lot of the clothes items but the makeup section is unbeatable. Firstly, they have brands like Guerlain which has the BEST lipstick ever made. Cle de Peau is also great for your lips. They have Armani beauty which I believe, is a NM exclusive which is one of my all time favorite makeup brands. The makeup there is the same price as any department store so there's no price gauging here. They have a very good selection and for the most part, the colors you want are available and not "sold out". They have Jo Malone which is one of my favorite perfume/lotion brands which is pricey but lasts forever. The perfume section in general is varied and the staff is knowledgeable. If you are looking for some of the unique and hard-to-find perfume brands like Creed, this is the place to get it!! For the most part, every counter I go to has someone who knows their stuff and if that person isn't there at that moment, there is always someone around to help you. Another plus that I have to mention is that they have La Mer and other high end creams for anti-aging like La Prarie as well. They are pricey anywhere you go but you can get samples from the sales reps to try out and my mom LOVES that. The anti-aging products sold there and the staff who sells them regardless of the brand, really know what they're talking about and not blowing smoke up your you-know-what. It's one of my most enjoyable shopping experiences at Ala Moana and the free valet parking doesn't hurt either!! read more

For the most part, this Neiman Marcus is a pleasure to shop at. MOST of the sales people are genuinely nice and very helpful. I am a Kiehl's addict and absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the women at that counter. Always so nice and genuine. Know what I totally loved? The honesty! I asked about a particular product and the woman gave me her honest opinion...she didn't like the product. In fact, she does not care for any of their shampoo products and she was honest about it. She made other recommendations (that the store did supply) but still showed me other Kiehl's products that would suit me. I love honesty! The women who work in then evening gown section are totally fabulous and always willing to help. Their prices are actually quite reasonable. They also have gorgeous white gowns that could double for wedding dresses at half the price. The only issue I have had with staff is the uppity woman who works in the St. John department. She has never greeted me let alone helped me. She is simply snooty and rude! Overall, I really like this Neiman Marcus. Why not 5 stars you ask? They are in need of a renovation or at least dust their shower of butterflies (and I much preferred the white ones!) Love their bathrooms though! read more

NM used to be one of my favorite spot for shopping. It carries all the great brands I like, you are not bothered by an army of sales people following all your moves (although I am talking of the clothing department, the cosmetic department people act like they are of a million looking down on you), and the return policy was great: I used to buy a bunch of stuff, and try it all at home a couple of time to decide if I really liked it or not. When the price tag is of three digits for a top, you can do that right ? Well, not anymore, and that sucks. Now sales are final, and it puts NM at the same level as everyone else in the mall so why bother go there now? I think I am switching to Nordstrom... except for Mariposa, that's way better (chic and airy) than the burrow they have as a restaurant at Nordie. We just had the most wonderful lunch at Mariposa followed by an amazing experience at the Jo Malone counter. Jessica greeted us with such a pleasant way as we stopped by to just check out the many choices of Jo Malone. As she shared with us the uniqueness in how you mix different scents together to create your own fragrance, we were drawn to the wide array of earthy, floral & fruity scents. Jessica treated us with such professionalism & it definitely showed that she knew the product line as she combined several choices for each of us to sample. We thoroughly enjoyed her attention to detail as she walked us through the creating a personal fragrance. Such a delightful young lady!! read more

I come here to visit the cosmetics counter, but specifically Nora at the Clinique counter and Monique at Fekkai. They are always helpful and nice. I've encountered the snobbies. I wait for beauty events and Nora and Monique are not pushy. I went to the shoe section after I saw some Cole Haan shoes in their catalog and online but was told they don't carry Cole Haan in the stores, and that was it, dismissed me.
