Love the filled donuts. There is no other place that can compare. We ordered a dozen donuts today and sadly we were missing 3 out of the dozen. These are not inexpensive so paying for 3 and not getting them is disheartening. I also wish they would change their packaging. They really need to use the single layer flat boxes (like another donut shop with donuts that can't even come close to Neil's). The boxes they use are fine if you have plain donuts. If you get donuts with glaze or frosting on top they get mutilated in the box on top of each other. Kind of takes away from the enjoyment. Half the topping is on the side of the box or another donut. If in a single layer box the integrity would be preserved. We don't order from here often and one of the reasons is the packaging. Probably wouldn't have shorted us 3 donuts had they been able to clearly see how many were in the box. read more

Loves Neils! Have gone to their Wallingford many times and was so happy that they are now in Middletown. I have visited this lovely location 3 times so far. My favorite donut is the vanilla buttercream. You can't actually tell from my picture but this time the donut was only slightly cut into and it was not nearly as filled as all the other times I've eaten this same type. It also hardly had any sprinkles on it which is not like them. Still tasted great however whom ever assembled them was off their game last Saturday. I am not a person who craves donuts. I have a donut...maybe...twice a year. After visiting this place, I would like to addend my statement: I am a person to craves Neil's Donuts! I had heard of Neil's from other foodies who raved about the donut shop located in Wallingford, but I had no idea one had opened in Middletown until last Wednesday when I had finished an early morning project and had mentioned to my boss that I needed coffee before going back to the office at 10 am. Her eyes lit up and she said, "you should go to Neil's." I was like, "No way! We have one here?!?". And off I went. Of course I had to order a little bit of everything so, I ordered a Ham Egg & Cheese on Hard Roll, a Peanut Butter Crumb donut, a Coconut Cream donut, and a New England Coffee Hazelnut ice coffee. The Ham Egg & Cheese on a Hard Roll was your standard breakfast sandwich, but better because that roll was anything but hard. It was a soft, pillowy, happy experience in my mouth. Anyone who isn't living under a rock knows how good New England Coffee coffee is, so no need to review that. BUT THE DONUTS!?!?!? ***Heavy breathing*** The donuts are the real MVP. Those things are fresh af and I have had some right-off-the-line donuts. The also taste like a perfectly, yeasty, melt-in-your-mouth cloud. I need more! My neighbor has been raving for months, so I finally got there to try it for myself. Well what a surprise. I fully expected a "Krispy Kreme" vibe. Uh NO.. Not the case at all. The vibe is not that of a huge chain, but more of a cool uncle or aunt that wants to share what he or she loves with everyone. The variety is above measure. Now to the good stuff: The parking can be challenging when it is busy. The shop itself is clean and inviting, properly prepared for social distancing and the color scheme is fresh. The staff is very quick and seem vested in making sure everyone is served and quickly. Food is plentiful and worth the price. I am a self proclaimed foodie and it was a bit much for me to handle. Due to the variety... I would suggest checking out the menu ahead of your visit so you are not over whelmed. Definitely on the revisit list. read more

I have heard wonderful things about Neil's and couldn't wait to try it. Sadly, I was disappointed. The good - coffee was AMAZING! I had the pistachio ice cream iced coffee. So good! This flavor was brewed in the coffee, not a sugary flavor shot, and it was absolutely delicious. The bad - my donut!! Insert a million sad faces. I think I made a mistake in ordering the chocolate glazed. It was no better than your average donut. Kind of small and not as moist as I expected. Just average. I stopped in yesterday for a few treats.. here's what I think... coffee was yummy! (I got the coco mint.) Sausage Breakfast sandwich on a wheat bagel was on point. I also grabbed some muffins, a cinnamon, pistachio and cranoragne - all very good and not too heavy. Lastly I couldn't go without picking up a box of a dozen donuts. I am a big strawberry frosted fan, but was disappointed with these... it tasted like confectionary sugar dyed pink... the glazed and chocolate glazed/frosted however were so yummy - fresh and not too heavy. I went around 930a on a Saturday... There was a little social distancing - but people were eager, thankfully plenty and of space to move away from people. They kept the crowd moving which I was thankful for and every staff member knew exactly what they were doing as were completing their jobs friendly and efficiently. read more

They have glazed coffee rolls that are the size of a dinner plate that are very popular in my household. They are fresh and delicious. My personal favorite is the key lime filled donut. The food is just as good as the original location and the interior is very nice and even includes a bathroom. This location also has a drivethru for those who don't want to get out their cars. 5 stars for the food, quality, quick drive-through -5 stars for the horrible service I experienced over the weekend. I kindly asked an employee if she could grab my order that was sitting directly behind her in the doordash section, first she dramatically rolled her eyes at me and told me I had to wait in the line that was going out the door to pick up my order... I said I've been doing pickups here for months and I've never had anyone tell me I had to wait in line. She continued to be extremely rude and speak to me with such a childish attitude and again with the DRAMATIC eye roll. After I pointed again and said 3 times, "my box with my receipt is LITERALLY right behind you, could you please hand me my order" the girl then just turned around, whispered to another coworker and a different employee handed me my order so I could be on my merry way. I expect this kind of customer service at a McDonald's lol I was and am still shocked by the way I was spoken to by a customer service representative of the best donut place EVER. The insolence of this employee almost deters me from being the loyal customer that I am. Everyone has had a crazy last year so I try to support my local businesses and I take the extra step to be appreciative and always have kind words to say even just "I hope you're doing well today" just to maybe put a smile on someone's face if they were having a bad day or just needed to hear the words thank you, but nevertheless when a member of the customer service industry is polite and helpful I remember that and I would continue to recommend this establishment to others. read more

When the doors do open, the shelves are only half stocked, selection is therefore limited. Don't get me wrong, all the donuts are good. We have some clients who prefer certain types. Today was my first trip to Neil's Donuts in Middletown and boy, did it live up to the hype! I got there about 8:15 AM on Sunday morning and they had every flavor available that I had on my list. There was almost no line at all when I arrived and I was served very quickly. The donuts were simply fabulous. The jelly donuts were filled almost to bursting with jelly. I had the French Toast donut with Maple frosting and the flavor of the frosting was spot on. It was decadent. I tried my daughter's Oreo donut which had white cream filling with Oreo crumble on top and they absolutely nailed it. The donuts were larger than the average donut and definitely a huge sugar rush, so if you don't like sweets, this isn't for you, but it was amazing. Last, but not least, I got half a dozen donuts and it came to just $7.79. This kind of quality for that price is astounding. Could not recommend it more hightly! read more

The whole city of Middletown is abuzz with the opening of Neil's Donuts. There is a whole cult of people going crazy about a donut shop. It's a pandemic so something new like this merits some attention. I have been three times. On each occasion I have waited about 5-10 minutes to get in the door which really isn't bad. You can call ahead if you like but I prefer to look at what's available and then make a decision. They really are very good at what they do. They have very tasty donuts put other donuts to...well...shame to be honest. I have had delicious egg and cheese sandwiches on a bagel. These are quite honestly what Middletown has been waiting for. Really good. They have muffins which are also good - tried the Blueberry muffin which was what I expect in a muffin. They have hot and iced coffees with flavors brewed into them as well as syrups that can be added. The staff is very attentive and they are all young and eager to please even if the shop opens at 6 am. They have been running out of product around 10-10:30 am so get yourself there before that time if you want a good selection. Is a donut shop worth going nuts over? Nah. Is this a good stop? Yep - give it a try - you will be back. read more

Original location in Wallingford is wonderful and worth 5 stars. This review is not a reflection of the product as I know Neil's donuts rock, but this location is a severe disappointment. I was so excited that they created this location closer to us in Middletown. Unfortunately the lines are ridiculous and I don't think they've figured out how to efficiently serve the crowds of fans greeting them in Middletown. The line was so slow that we just got out of line and went home as we got tired of waiting. I could have easily driven to their original location in Wallingford and back home in much less time. read more
