Attempted to come here for the first time. I was reading the menu on the wall and was shouted at by the lady behind the counter to "LINE UP OVER THERE!!" Why would I get in line before reading the menu? I left. They don't need your money. I definitely don't need to be shouted at by a barista while reading the menu screen. Perkatory seems to be a local chain that encompasses a punk/alternative rock theme, I'm not a fan of the theme. I have a preference for the clean-girl aesthetic, very much "we go to the Maldives every year" vibe (but that's neither here nor there). Anyway, the aesthetic doesn't take away from the service or how delicious the coffee is . Definitely check it out if you're into local coffee shops. Perkatory has a cool vibe - I've been to the Southington location as well. I recently stopped by with my husband and ordered a Coconut Cold Brew, while he ordered a hot Mocha Latte. I enhanced my drink by adding ube cold foam. The cold foam had a nice authentic ube taste but once mixed it disappeared. The coffee itself was good though. I also tried the Mexican Street Corn Danish, which was pretty good and filling. I'll be coming back soon to try other cold brew flavors! read more

This place is confused. It's hard to figure out how it all works. After I finally made it into the line, I waited way too long to order while the person at the counter was taking care of her friends at the register. I ordered a brownie and a special iced latte. I was given the brownie to take to the table with me. I asked if I should wait for the latte, or go to a table. She said, "they'll call out the latte." Ok, so I went on a hunt to find a clean table. There was ONE in the corner by the door. I sat there and began my brownie. It was just Ok...very dry. I made it all the way through the brownie and still no drink, so I went back to the counter to ask about my drink. She told me, it will be coming up next, right around the corner. I went through the little passage and the drink was just sitting there. The ice was already melted, so it must have been hot and poured over ice and then just left to sit there. I took it back to the table, where some person came in with their dog, and cleared my table and took it. Now, there was no place left to sit. So, I went back to have them put the latte in a to-go cup. The barista just pointed to the stack of cups. By the time I got the damn latte to my car, it was just a warm, watery cup of swamp. I dumped it. I should have done the same thing with the cardboard brownie. All around a failure of an experience. This dump goes on the DNR (Do not return) list. read more

Perkatory is a total gem. The coffee is absolutely excellent -- rich, smooth, and clearly made with care. The staff is incredibly attentive, friendly, and genuinely seem to love what they do. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between cool and cozy -- whether you're meeting a friend or just need a quiet place to work or think, it's a great spot. I love Perkatory, but this was my first visit at this location! I got their special "The Dark Tower" which is a cookie butter amaretto mocha latte. This seemed like a lot of flavor for me, but it blended together so well! Their specials always surprise me! When I was there they also had a candle and flower pop up shop and I LOVE local supporting local! Tons of seating. There may be a line on the weekends, but it moves fast and you can always order ahead! They have some good pastries and bagels available, but I do wish I was possible to get an egg sandwich here. Came here for a study date with my friends the other day. The vibes were great. There was good music playing, Ferris Bueller's Day Off was playing on the TV, there was free wi-fi, and my matcha was yummy! Anyone who knows us, knows Perkatory is our favorite local coffee shop. About 15 minutes away but we love making the trip. They have awesome monthly specials with unique flavors we always have to try! Staff is friendly and accommodating with questions or substitutions. They know their stuff! Since working from home, we love taking a lunch break to grab a coffee with our pup. Yes, they allow dogs inside and it's wonderful! Ask for a pup cup of course. I noticed the three Perkatory Coffee shops I've been to, they're all in sneaky, hidden locations, never on an obvious Main Street. While this location is technically on Main Street, it's still hidden from the Main Street attractions, if you're not looking for it you might miss it. Perkatory is so fun inside. There's skeletons and skateboarding art everywhere! I loved the comfy couch and the shelf full of board games and plants. There were several young people catching up, working on their computers, some might be writing Yelp reviews. I was in a lemonade type of mood. I got their Sparking Lemonade, it comes in two flavors, Strawberry and Lavender. I went with strawberry. This was a notch above regular flavored lemonade, because it has sparkling water in it, making it a $5.00 well spent. This was just right, it was lightly sweetened, a generous size, and for sure very refreshing on a hot day. I have a feeling no actual lemons were used in the process of making my Sparking Strawberry Lemonade, but that's ok. I noticed the case where they keep their baked goods was almost completely bare. There was one apple and one slice of apple strudel. One star off for that. This is a good spot to get a coffee or a cool drink when in Middletown. read more

This place is a nice little place to hang out and get some work done, chill with friends, or pick up an afternoon refresher. It's is a coffee shop, but I love that they have other options as well. I went for a matcha lemonade drink special they had at the moment which was equal parts savory and acidic. I also got one of their cannoli squares which was a nice surprise; not too sweet and the pastry wasn't very flaky or messy. The establishment itself is decorated in a way the reminds me of a skater turned librarian opening up a rock cafe in the forest. Go there and you will totally understand what I mean! The woman behind the counter was incredibly kind and gave great recommendations as well before I put my order in. I guess the only down side would be that they are only open until 5pm, but that's not out of the norm in this town. This is definitely a funky, cool coffee shop located right off the main st of Middletown. The space is really open with lots of seating and a good amount of outlets. You even have the option of sitting along the bar where you can watch them make drinks which is pretty cool. I ordered a black coffee and my bf ordered the chai latte with almond milk. The coffee was great! So smooth yet bold with flavor. The barista was really nice and even offered to let me sample a bit before I ordered a full cup. My bf really liked his chai latte. I personally thought the spice flavor was a little too light for me. It's definitely not a bold, spicy chai. For food, we got a pumpkin muffin and a double chocolate muffin. They were pretty standard. I wish they had some more options since they only had cookies or muffins in the bakery case. read more

A little hard to find if you're not familiar with the area and the parking can get dicey depending on what time of day you visit, but if you can look past those two minor inconveniences then you've found yourself a pot of gold. Black liquid gold. Nestled along Kings Avenue, Perkatory has honed in on the process of making a great cup of coffee by roasting and grinding their own beans. The inside is inviting with an open layout and plenty of seating for studying, catching up with friends, or slowing down from the daily grind. The staff are incredibly welcoming and were helpful in navigating the many options on the wall. I ended up getting an iced latte with lavender and vanilla which took me back to the summer and its warm weather that I was missing on a cold day like today. They have bags of their coffee available to purchase that they roast in house accompanied with signs explaining the roasting process, origin of the bean, and tasting notes. They'll even grind them for you to your brewing preference to set you up for success when you get home. You can pair your coffee with a few pastries they source locally like vegan chocolate chip cookies from ION bakery right on Main Street. Don't sleep on their seasonal drinks! For the holidays they are offering a gingerbread latte, an eggnog latte, a peppermint white mocha latte, and a ginger cranberry espresso mocktail (which I'll have to try next time I stop in). read more

Call me Dante, because I visited Perkatory this morning on my way to Southern CT. I've recently concluded that coffee review scores are among the least helpful Yelp scores. Most coffee drinkers have strong individual beverage preferences and we're all scoring relative to our own tastes. My black cold brew rating doesn't really help my Yelp friend who drinks espresso, or lattes, or single origin Peruvian Washed pour overs with cream and sugar. But as the corporate cliche goes, it is what it is. This was my first trip to Perkatory. I generally prefer iced coffee that was initially brewed hot to cold brew because I like the initial extraction to be in the 195-205 degree F range for flavor reasons, but I didn't see that iced coffee was an option. The black cold brew was decent. I asked the barista which coffee they use and she said a name that I couldn't hear, followed by "light roast". I assumed I could figure it out after the fact from the cool skate deck coffee signs that Perkatory uses, but they currently have three light roasts. The Ethiopian Ardi was the name that clicked, but I could be wrong. In any event, the coffee was fairly balanced and I didn't detect much of a fruit, floral or chocolate taste. I did pick up some tea notes. I prefer more of a juice bomb with bright acidity, and therefore this cold brew was merely decent for me. They apparently change things up occasionally and my next experience could be better. Service was friendly. The space, which is part of a large building to the north of Eli Cannon's, was large, open and filled with life. There were many people there, but it didn't feel crowded. I liked the use of skate decks in the decorating, but otherwise the branding didn't really speak to me. They had a food truck out front, which I assume shows the popularity of Perkatory. Based only upon my black cold brew, I give Perkatory 3 Stars. But if you drink something else, you may have a completely different experience. read more

1. Obsessed. 2. I live in MA and my favorite coffee shop is in CT!!! Normally I get something off the monthly specials list when I visit. Top notch cold foam. I've had the PB fluff, the Wookiee cookie, a few others. But my favorite so far was the PB&J last weekend OMG delicious and I would get it every single time. Went for another special and saw that last minute and I'm so glad i did. I think I love this place so much not only because the awesome decor, sweet merch (bf and I l have grabbed a few shirts, glasses, stickers etc), but the staff is friendly even when there's 20 people in line they are on the ball! The coffee is A1. So good to get a specialty coffee that still tastes like COFFEE!!! Needless to say I'm a regular whenever I'm in town. read more

I cannot come in here without being treated rudely by the baristas. My spouse or I come in to buy a bag of coffee approximately every 4-5 days and we're always pleasant and it's not cheap coffee. The few times I've gotten a prepared coffee drink it's clear the grinder hasn't been dialed in and the baristas don't know how to pull a shot properly. The baked goods are subpar and the croissants are barely laminated. The only reason we buy coffee regularly is because it's the only place in town to get high quality regularly roasted beans. read more

Located in an old brick building with high ceilings, it has an edgy, industrial vibe. The front room does offer some cozy seating, but if you want to be near the action (and refills), you have a choice of the bar area or small tables. Perkatory offers roasted coffee beans, coffee, tea & hot chocolate. I have been here a handful of times and have only ordered the Lochness...a creamy, sweet latte. One day I will order something else, but this drink is perfection! Hungry? They have small case of baked goods with large scones, cookies & muffins. My son ordered the S'mores scone and couldn't put it down! If you follow their Facebook page you'll get updates to their comedy shows, live music and other events.
