View from the porch. Lovely winter scene
    Lauren D.

I went on a snowy winter morning to try it out! THE DRINKS -I ordered off of their seasonal menu which was printed at the register. I was really excited to try the carrot cake latte specifically because the menu I ordered from said it had a cream cheese cold foam. Since that what was clearly listed as the special I figured it would come as listed, it didn't say hot / iced and the cashier didn't ask me either. -I ordered decaf and appreciated hearing the employee who took my order emphasizing multiple times to the person who made it that it was decaf -when I got the drink at the counter it looked like a regular hot latte but I presumed the cold foam had melted into the top a bit and I would still get that cream cheesy flavor. When I didn't taste it, I checked in at the counter to ask about it because it was the specific reason I decided to get that drink. I was informed I would've had to order the iced one for the cold foam and that I should try it next time. I expressed my disappointment since I just ordered based on what the menu said and wasn't asked if I wanted hot or iced, assuming it was made per the menu. I was told sorry about the mistake and that was that. -The hot latte was perfectly fine but not what I had expected. I would've liked that little bit of added sweetness I thought I was getting in my drink with the cold foam. THE FOOD -I ordered a blueberry muffin and it was very fresh and tasty. Good size as well. -when I went up to the counter after ordered I saw they had added some new pastries in the case in those few minutes between ordering and getting my items. I would've loved to try one of the other pastries that were freshly being added. THE ATMOSPHERE -your GPS will tell you you've arrived, but note that you have to go down into the parking lot of the barn area to find it. Just follow the dirt road and you'll see it on the left. -cute patio -lovely inside with multiple seating areas. Good for coffee with friends or spending some time doing work. -decorated very nicely with a little area to buy merch as well THE SERVICE -the cashier was very friendly and conversational. -it seemed like they have some regulars who they get to know because I heard the barista having a nice conversation with one of the customers. -while the experience was overall very friendly, I really wish they would've offered to replace my drink when I voiced it wasn't what I thought I was getting per the menu. If I had mistakenly ordered a hot latte I would've understood, but when your menu is printed with certain ingredients I think they should've at least asked hot or iced when I made my order (again, given the menu I assumed it would be made iced so that's why they didn't ask & I didn't specify). -I've seen other cafes who list on their specials whether they can be made hot, iced, or both. Maybe Shop Two can consider this to avoid confusion in the future. Overall, while I was a tad bit disappointed, I had a nice experience trying Shop Two in their storefront. The service was friendly, drink was good, pastry was fresh & yummy, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. If I am in the area I would definitely go back and will recommend to others.

    Iced maple latte

I stopped in for a coffee after a couple of hours spent browsing next door at Marlborough Barn. It was busy and there was live music happening which I loved. The shop is spacious and inviting and I would have stayed and enjoyed my coffee there if I had the time. I ordered an iced maple latte and it was perfect! It had just the right amount of sweetness and the coffee itself was delicious. I will definitely be back next time I'm in the area and I'm so happy Marlborough has a local coffee shop like this!

"I love the flower girl Oh, I don't know just why…read moreShe simply caught my eye I love the flower girl she seemed so sweet and kind. She crept into my mind." (The Cowsills) Visiting the Flour Girl Café and Bakery will put you squarely in the middle of a Flour Girl Village with four distinct components. Within the village is the Flour Girl Café at 16 Main, the Flour Girl Bakery at 14 Main, the Flour Girl Country Store at 12 Main, and the Door Yard in a rear courtyard for dining and hosting events between the bakery and country store. Today we had breakfast at the Café and followed it up with a visit to the bakery. A common thread at both stops was the wonderful personality and friendliness of the staff we interacted with. The counterperson at the Café could not have been nicer and her personality radiated throughout the room like a beam of sunshine. She welcomed every new customer as though they were long lost relatives, exchanged some pleasant small talk and then diligently repeated the orders before ringing them up. She was fantastic. The café keeps things humming all week long--open Monday through Friday from 6:30 to 4:00, Saturdays from 7:30 to 4:00, and Sundays from 7:30 to 3:00. Flour Girl Café covers you from breakfast through lunch. Mornings bring all the good stuff: coffees and lattes, smoothies, egg sandwiches, bagels, wraps, waffles, toasts--you get the idea. Swing by at lunchtime and you'll find sandwiches, paninis, salads, burgers and soups waiting for you. Oh, and as a bonus perk, the bread for sandwiches and burgers is made at the bakery next door, so freshness is something the Flour Girl takes seriously. For breakfast, we had a Bacon, Egg, Lettuce, Tomato, and Cheese Bagel ($7.99) and an Avocado Toast (2 pieces) with Feta and tomato ($9.99), Two 16-ounce drip coffees were $3.50 apiece. The portions were large, and my avocado toast on sourdough was fantastic. We sat in the first-floor dining room and took in the pretty interior design of pinks, pastels, and floral color theme. Now, on to the bakery! The Flour Girl Bakery may be best known for its sourdough breads, but the fun doesn't stop there. You'll also find muffins, cookies, scones, their award winning cinnamon rolls, and a rotating lineup of fresh baked breads. And those cinnamon rolls? They spark a full on weekend rush--people happily line up just to snag one before they disappear. We picked up a box of mixed goods, muffins, cake squares, and a big hunk of jalapeno cornbread that will go perfectly with a homemade batch of lentil chili sitting in my fridge. We saw an adorable feature at the bakery, where plastic eggs were hidden within the store for the kiddies to find and cash in for a cookie. It's the little customer service features we saw at the Flour Girl's Café, Bakery, and Country Store that made today's visit so pleasant.

"I walked in, the baker said everything was sold I found out…read moreshe saved me some sweet jelly roll Yes, the baker shop boogie" (Willie Nix) Definitely a worthwhile visit! The store is pretty large with an oversized bakery display case showing off their classic bakery goods - think gorgeous cakes, pastries, and cookies. And to make your visit even more worthwhile is a restaurant with a sweet breakfast and lunch menu. We visited yesterday and had a very nice breakfast in their large dining room. There is plenty of seating and plenty of parking too. I had a Veggie Breakfast Burrito ($10.50) with sauteed onions, peppers, spinach, grilled portobello mushrooms, American cheese, and diced tomatoes on a spinach tortilla, It was excellent and the size of that burrito made it a decent value for the price. My wife had a $7.49 Ham, Egg & Cheese breakfast sandwich with an additional $1 bagel surcharge. It was a big bagel, and as you can see from our photo, there were three big ham slices included. Very good coffees were $3.59 each. On the way out, those gorgeous pastries in the showcase whispered sweet nothings in my ear, and helpless to resist, we ordered an Apple Pocket ($2.99) and a Chocolate Croissant ($3.25). How reasonable are those prices? We also saw that Marlborough has a refrigerated case with Grab and Go meals and stuffed breads. They are open from 6AM - 6PM on weekdays and 6AM - 3PM on weekends. We are now fans.

It's a beautiful day in Connecticut and I'm in the mood for some outdoor dining, a lobster roll,…read morebut I don't wanna fight through the crowds of Captain Scott's Lobster Dock or drive an hour to the shore for any of those places out there. Only about a half-hour away from me is Jessica's Garden. Here's why my wife and I love coming here... Atmosphere/Appearance: Kind of out in the sticks is this gem, but many benefits of that are that there's private parking and plenty of it. Up the hill from where you park is where you go to order your food. You walk up to the counter to check out the menu or you can order from your phone. Hint, if you check-in on Yelp you may get a coupon to use online! Once you order you won't really be notified so just go to the other window around the corner from where you ordered to pick up your food. There's plenty of picnic table style seating and so much property to explore. There's woods back to check out and this place is just so peaceful. It's also... BYOB. That's what's most important. Lol, especially with a liquor store right up the street. Service: There really isn't any since you go order your own food then go pick it right back up. Food: It's a pretty simple menu here. The lobster roll is what you want. Yes, it can be pricy, but lobster just is. However, it's amazing. The lobster is soft, tender, succulent and of course, buttery. You do have to assemble the roll yourself since everything here is sold as a to-go order. It kinda makes sense. I've also had some wings and onion rings here. They're okay, nothing to write home about, but good enough for me to get each time I visit. Value: Moderate. Easily affordable, nothing crazy and the fact that it's B.Y.O.B. makes it WAY better! Lol. In conclusion, Jessica's Garden is my duck-off spot where I go if I wanna eat outdoors, am craving a lobster roll and I just wanna chill. Check this place out guys and continue to support these local businesses!

One that was not stifling. I imagine Jessica's could be absolutely amazing, but the sad part was the lobster roll. It was tiny and over buttered which made the hot dog roll it sat on very mushy and unappetizing. I wanted to love Jessica's so much! It's my namesake! But alas the food. :( I will give them another try though because it was such a fun place. Maybe I'll try something different off the menu. Hang tight!
