I was driving from Hartford County to Mystic and Yelp-searched for a highly rated coffee shop near my route. Brewed Awakening stood out as having a good rating and being close to my route. Brewed Awakening does not present as a craft coffee shop focused on bean origins and things like that. It's a small, old school coffee shop, with limited inside place to sit and stand. The space is not fancy. It's more functional. But I'll tell you something . . . almost every usable inch of that space was occupied by people who seemed like long time regulars. Maybe like 5 to 6 people, but people who were happy to be there. The coffee was reasonably priced. The food, included hot dogs, donuts, breakfast sandwiches, classic sandwiches. Also reasonably priced by modern standards. There seems to be a New York connection to the shop because they use Nathan's Hot Dogs and the donuts on the counter came from New York. The woman who I assume was an owner was the only person working. She was very nice and helpful. I suspect she's a reason why they have a loyal customer base. I thought about ordering a hot dog at 8 a.m., but I had food plans in Mystic. I just ordered a Black Iced Coffee. The ice cubes were that thin round tube style with holes on the top and bottom, that you used to see a lot in restaurant fountain soda. The iced coffee itself was about average. If I just wanted a high end black iced coffee, I probably wouldn't return. I would definitely return to check out their reasonably priced food in warmer months when you can sit outside. In any event, if you're looking for a place with a lot of character, Brewed Awakening would be a good choice. It's close to the Route 9 Exit that you take on your way to the Clinton Outlets. 3.5 Stars read more

Cute little cafe! The breakfast options were a bit limited, but the bacon egg and cheese sandwiches we ordered were great. Made fresh, generous portion, and very tasty. The staff there were very nice and worked hard to get our order to us quickly! There was maybe one table inside, but it was tight. There are several tables on the outside patio, so it's a great spot to sit on a nice day. There are a couple more full service breakfast spots in the area, but Brewed Awakening is a great option when you just want to grab a coffee or a quick bite! read more

This is a great little grab and go place. They make great breakfast sandwiches and super fast! There are also muffins, pastries, bagels and various flavored coffees. It is a grab and go though, meaning there are only two small tables inside and two outside, so maybe don't plan to meet 10 friends or family members there for a sit down breakfast. It is more like grab some fast sandwiches to head down and eat them with said people at Haddam Meadows and enjoy the river view. The owner is a super sweet woman who is almost always there working. A better alternative to Dunkin Donuts in my opinion. Her breakfast sandwiches are way better. read more

Brewed Awakening is my first stop every morning on the way to work! Breakfast sandwiches are so good and reasonably priced that the staff at Dunkin Donuts orders their breakfast from Bernadette. Don't understand what axe Michele B. has to grind but I suspect She is a disgruntled muffin supplier or Zen roaster employee. If you find yourself in the area do not settle for Dunkin Donuts, this little cafe is so. Much.better!! The #1 thing I like is that they brew real hazelnut coffee, no flavor shots resulting in extra sugar. Delicious home- made warm breakfast sandwiches, as well as daily lunch specials.
