SO thankful this is in the beautiful town of Sherman, CT. It's a coffee roaster/shop with a small town vibe, amazing coffee and cute local artisan gifts and some delicious local baked goods. Worth a visit if you are going through the area. Also, it is a local's favorite. John is welcoming and a very cool person. A coffee lovers dream. Sacred Grounds is our go to for coffee! It's close enough to not be too far and they always have all the goods. I personally love the staff and how kind and knowledgeable they are. Now that they're only operating through a little window it's even better. You get out of your car, ring the little doorbell, someone awesome comes out to take your order from the menu on their window. You ask questions, they answer them all and recommend to you a custom roast right for you taste! In these times it's so important to support local business but also people that are passion about their work and what they do. Sacred Grounds is a wonderful, wonderful coffee roaster with coffee and light snacks for takeout, "hidden" (but not really) right in the middle of our one-stoplight town. Yelper Don F. finally gave me the extra nudge I needed to stop in... and now I'm seriously mad at myself for not trying Sacred Grounds sooner. All coffee sold here is organic and fair trade, roasted with a light hand to minimize bitterness and maximize the nutty / fruity notes. To channel my favorite Top Chef contestant of all time, Carla Hall, this coffee tastes like it's roasted with love! I can't say enough nice things about the owner, John Rich, who works the COVID-safe takeout window and has evidently donated coffee for Sherman School SPTO meetings for years. He's kind, friendly, low-key and welcoming. Two human kids and one pup in, I'm no longer a coffee snob. (At 5 a.m. after two hours of sleep, sometimes instant coffee is just how ya gotta roll.) But even I can appreciate the quality of the roasting here, and recognize that I have to give it the time it deserves to properly enjoy it. read more

While the town of Sherman is small, it's nice to have a coffee shop in town. This isn't your cut and dry coffee shop, as they also allow you to buy grounds and beans from their large variety of flavor options. I haven't had the opportunity to taste many, but there is a great amount to choose from with lots of interesting notes and flavors. You can also pop in for a single drink. I love the iced coffee. It has great flavor and does not taste bitter. Prices are fair as well. Nice staple in town. read more

Most people drink coffee, imo lousy tasting coffee, adding sweeteners and flavors. Some people.just like black coffee or coffee with milk or cream and no sweetener: they enjoy the actual coffee flavor. For those of you that don't want to add sweeteners and flavors to be able to drink your coffee, Sacred Grounds is the coffee for all. I could not believe there is no bitter aftertaste! You simply won't believe you have been drinking bitter coffee most of your life. If you're not sure which to try first go for Supernatural, Mexican Chiapas (I like the medium blend) and of course Ethiopian Yirgacheffe or Komodo Dragon. John knows his coffee. The coffee is phenomenal. Certainly the best in the region. Among the best that I've tried in my world travels. Dozens of varieties of beans, all fresh roasted right there in the shop. Freshly brewed coffee and espresso are also available. Although there are a few prepackaged snacks available, no food is prepared here--coffee is the star of the show! Sacred Grounds happens to be on my morning commute, and I feel like I hit the jackpot to have such a great cup of coffee everyday as I head to work. I placed an online order for pickup and not only was it totally painless but the coffee was amazing as always. I got the Ted's Blend and the Maya Dark Decaf. Originally I had placed an order for a different kind of decaf, but they were totally swamped and I let them know that I absolutely didn't mind if they needed to sub that part of my order. I got apologized to by two different people a few different times even though I was totally happy with my order as it was. Their customer service is amazing, and I love the coffee window they've set up to deal with the COVID era. While there I got a latté for my drive home, and it was fantastic. Being from Seattle, and having experience working for a top notch coffee roaster in the PNW, I know a good cup of coffee. Had a great time talking with John. He wasn't pretentious or snobby in any way, and his product was fantastic. He took time out of his busy day to converse with us, and prepared a pour-over to sample the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. It was a fantastic, complex cup! John, you have something special here. Keep it up! Quick note to anyone coming by: This is NOT a coffee shop or cafe. I've been buying coffee beans from Sacred Grounds for more than a year now. It's safe to say it is the best coffee in the region. John is extremely knowledgeable and helpful when picking my roasts. Usually there is a selection of 15 or 20 different origins, blends and roasts. There's also usually one or two brewed coffees to sample so I have an idea what some will taste like when I brew them at home. When I get my coffee from here, I feel confident it is a quality bean and it's been carefully roasted. read more

Stopped in this morning on a long bike ride. When they heard that I'd come all the way from nyc for a cup of coffee... they brewed me a new pot. Service is friendly. It's great to find a small, local business that sells organic coffee beans. They carry so many different types and can be purchased whole, ground, or in k-cups. I've been buying the whole beans and am enjoying the supernatural blend lately, but like to try different ones now and then. They also sell cute handmade soaps and gifts.
