I am very disappointed with this company. A few years ago, they did insulation work at my home. Their poor installation caused my door to stick and scratch the floor, and their workers also scratched my hardwood floors. I reported it right away -- their staff (Sarah) confirmed it was their fault and even noted it in the account. They sent someone (Jesus), but he only did a poor stain touch-up and admitted the damage was caused by their work. At that time, I was assured the company would take responsibility with either a proper repair or compensation. But the contractor they referred me to never returned my calls. Now, years later, when I followed up, they suddenly claim they are no longer responsible -- despite having admitted fault and documented it. This shows they do not stand behind their workmanship or their word. I even referred my boyfriend to them, believing they were responsible, but I was wrong. they surveyed the property and suggested a certain work to be done for a certain price. we signed a contrac. when the crew arrived, first thing they did was to inform us that there was an "error " made in the original assessment and the price should go up 30%. after a very heated debate they conceded and treated the attic as was agreed upon. then they moved to the basement, spent there half an hour, did ABSOLUTELY nothing and left. I would never use them again and I'm in the process of filling an official complaint with BBB. read more

Please read the recent reviews from Yelp as well. These Google reviews do not provide well-rounded information. The initial energy assessment was done in November. The outcome was expected: we needed to remove all old wiring, cover some walls, and address the vermiculite in the attic. We complied. They came back on project day, December 13th, drilled holes in my boiler's hard-to-replace part, and told us our CO levels were too high. Company policy is 500ppm. Then they left. My family endured zero temperatures the week after. I later called and repeatedly asked why we were not informed about the CO levels during the consult and what the company policy is regarding informing customers about CO levels. The person from the Health and Safety department simply responded with, "It happens all the time," but refused to answer my questions. Neeeco then referred me to another company that does plumbing work. This company damaged my water heater's vent pipes and wanted to charge me $6k to $8k for about 6 to 8 hours of work to replace my tankless water heater. Like a normal person, my husband asked for a formal written proposal, but we never heard from these people again. The newest Rinnai high-efficiency tankless costs $1.7k, and all the vent pipes were pre-existing. $8k minus $1.8k--the rest is labor and parts. The highest rate I've seen for a plumber is $200 per hour, and $6.2k can pay for 31 hours of labor. I understand surcharging during winter, but it is still hard to swallow. I then purchased the Rinnai myself and asked a plumber we know to install it. This totals to a number that is much more reasonable. Neeeco's representative Matt on the phone simply said an invoice is needed in order for us to move forward. After I forwarded my purchase invoice, Cassie (another rep) proceeded to state that the invoice I gave them is atypical for MassSave and reiterated that "all work must be done by a professional" in order to qualify. After all this back and forth, I am simply exhausted and pulled the plug. This "project" started from November, and today is December 27th, I do not have faith that after sending my installation invoice, things will continue smoothly given the history of frustration I encountered with this company. Next time, I will question any business with stellar review on Google, only. read more

3 star A couple of thoughts to consider when working with NEEECO. it appears to be quite bureaucratic but sadly hamstrung by laws and commercial code -- that force them into doing the right thing! When this piece of work is done, we will be eligible for further problems err, my hands typed that, I mean further energy saving activities. a guarded recommendation. tl;dnr 1. Be methodical in your interactions with them, you should also record the phone calls, they do. 2. do not pay for partial work and do not sign off on partial work except as partial work. 3. Anticipate problems. ask the salesman for a full contract details when they are sitting at your kitchen table and are all smiles and to provide full details of the job such as type of insulation and how it will be installed. Such as the attic has to be cleared. Such as you have to have insulation over 60% of the attic, and with loose fill, you will lose attic space. 4. if you lose attic space, and you will to insulation in many cases, you can get it back by putting plywood risers above the loose fill insulation (my favorite kind of insulation because your house guests can be reminded of your new work because it goes everywhere!). It would cost them virtually nothing to teach this solution: Cut a 4x8 sheet (I now recommend 3/8 not 1/4 inch, but 1/4" will handle boxes but not you) into smaller sheets, attach 2x2 or 2x3 or 2x4 posts that are 12" long to the corners with screws (offset by ~1" for ease of use), use an upside down one to build further ones, build them in the attic if you can). an 4 h door to door job with Lowes that give you back much of the space. and could have been done before they came if you knew you were going to lose 60% of your space and get loose fill.... 5. Be aware that they are a bureaucracy, and they talk among themselves using forms. So if they call, you may know more than they do. and they appear to not be able to modify many of their forms and you will have to repeat yourself to each of the 10 people you talk to about quotes, arranging time, paying deposit, confirming time, reconfirming time, set up that they need, work done, work checked, final payment, getting the actually last bit of work done, and so on, to name a few of the many interactions with usually good people, usually with Brazilian accents, who are good people. 6. check their work. They the attic in a dangerous state that was easily fixed, but would have sent me to the ER if I had not looked. I don't really trust them as a system, but I'm not sure what to do, and I know that some of the problems are inherent to the task. Many of the people are good-hearted & try. Some of their computer systems are low quality and do not absorb feedback. Further discussion ------------------- 1. their processes are very clear to them and not very well or not explained by them to you. As far as I can now tell, MassSave, a MA gov program contracts to an energy audit firm to audit, and then MassSave recommends a place like NEEECO to do the remediation. 2. there is a lot of uncertainty in the type of work that they do, houses do vary. Their estimators who are sent to scope the work, time, materials, activities, are salesmen and (a) do not do a very good or thorough job in scoping the work in my one experience, leaving out obvious steps and not really taking measurements, and (b) are not corrected or punished for this, as indicated by talking with the crew about how often these types of problems occur. Because you and the crew pick up the slack in terms of greater payments or more or less time or wear and tear on your house or different results. BTW, it is not a surprise that I was going to loose storage space in the attic. To them. I found out on the day and it was an unkindness to not tell me. 3. they claim the energy savings. I am still not sure what that means. 4. The crew reported a long term problem with a fan & fixed it, that was free, as far as I can tell. I reread the contract, it was known or expected. 5. There was a 10% extra charge due to unexpected things i can't tell if it's a scam or a natural effect of fair complexity being found. Some of the unexpected items (like size of the space) are completely expectable. Some were unknown even to me. If it's a scam, it's not so bad. if it is fair, it's fair. I suspect that this type of thing is both inevitable and occurs about 80% more often than it would have to. read more

Company that partners with national grid to make your house more energy efficient. Sales man came out. Impressive and I was excited.i put down $500 to schedule an appointment. Covid-19 delayed everything and I understood; however, things went good to terrible. Finally got a date for install. 3 days blocked out 7am-4pm. They tell you this. They call a week out to confirm. I planned on being here the entire time, put my dog in daycare, and explained to my tenant what was going to happen. She moved everything out of the way and left for 3 days. They came and went in less than 8 hrs!! Showed up late in separate vehicles. Their personal vehicle left an oil stain in my driveway! Damaged my gutter. Did not do what salesman stated. The on-site guy Mike said there was no need for soffit vents on both sides of the roof. They weren't going to leave the plastic vapor barrier in the crawl space. Did not finish. I saw later they missed a section of my basement. Did ZERO CLEAN UP! No vacuum/shop vac. The entire time their bags blew around the neighborhood. My apartment was left a complete mess. It was very hot outside so you would think they would come prepare. Nope, cleaned me outta a case of water. I told them they can take a dip in the pool anytime. One of them used it to wash his arms and face instead of using the spicket! Ya I'm all set DO NOT COME BACK! I asked two different guys when do I get my $500 deposit back(national grid covers 100%)They both replied,"from national grid in two weeks.......Three weeks went by so I took a little different approach. I called NEECO and asked for accounting. Terry answered and said,"wow I can take care of that I'll put it in the mail today"! That was a Friday, I got it Monday! KUDOS TERRY! read more

They came to my door. They said they partnered with Mass Save and did a free Inspection for us to save money on Energy. We agreed. They did the inspection and said we could get free insulation. We signed off then they send an Electrician to do an Inspection to make sure its all safe. The Electrician signed off on the job and the installation for the instalation was scheduled but when the installers arrived they claim they couldn't do it due to electrical issues. Then did the old bait and switch. All of a sudden we need to pay 15,000.00 to have old electrical removed. 0 to 15,000.00!! So we are retired and can't pay that. Did all the moving of furniture and cleaning closets for nothing!! I wouldn't trust them if they come knocking. I feel compelled to write a review because my experience with NEEECO was so bad. I scheduled a virtual MassSave audit with NEEECO. It was a 20min phone call that basically gave me some light bulbs, power strips, and bath fans (well, the bath fans never arrived and I don't expect them at this point). I also qualify for 100% coverage of cellulose insulation in our attic, which is the exact wrong way to insulate an attic with an air handler, so I'm passing on that. I also needed this "audit" to get HEAT loan paperwork, which took them ages to provide. John, my auditor, wouldn't respond to a single email I sent after I signed the digital paperwork that the audit was complete. I could only interface with Jocelyn (a customer service rep) who was very nice on the phone, but kept saying John would email be back. He never did, so Jocelyn kept hearing from me for weeks until I got the basic paperwork I needed. I just received an automated email from NEEECO saying "want to schedule your insulation?!". I would never let them in my house, much let them do work here. They clearly just use the MassSave program as a quick income stream with no real accountability with customers since they have a constant flow of new customers thanks to their MassSave "partnership". I got advice before starting the process of "You need one of these 'partners' to do the audit but never hire them to do the work". Welp, this couldn't be more true. I'd never hire NEEECO. read more

The auditor showed up an hour early, without notice to me, the homeowner. I scheduled the appointment and it was my cell number used to communicate and confirm the appointment. However, the disrespectful clerk decided to perform the audit an hour before the scheduled time and worked with my tenant to identify and explain mitigation options. My tenant does not pay for mitigation, I do. When I objected to the clerk's decision to change our contract without discussion with me, he took offense. He told me, in front of my tenant, that I should not have anyone renting the property due to mold in the attic. The frost/mold in the attic was found by the tenant upon presentation. I say this because the tenant has been living there for 6+ years and accessing the attic weekly. Don't contact with this vendor!! read more

Horrible experience with NEEECO. Three times they missed their appointment! I only learned about the cancellations after I traveled to my vacation house. The cancellations were because of either their vehicle problems, insulation blowing machine problems, or their crew getting stuck in the previous appointment. During the insulation work, a power outage occurred due to the use of a problematic insulation-blowing machine, which caused a significant portion of my house to lose power. NECO tried to split electric bills for restoring power with me and only withdrew and apologized after I complained. Their employees ignored the fact that I had prepared my attic for the insulation work and removed extra floor panels on the attic near the landing without consulting me, which led to me falling through the insulation, breaking the bedroom ceiling, and injuring my arm, thigh, and thumb. read more

We had a bout $4,500 worth of work performed. Following the work that was performed Mass Save audited the work and found zero issues. What more can you ask for? Update: After finding multiple nails in my driveway, a nail in my tire, and some insulation debris left behind, I was upset. Of course, I left a negative review about the situation. Michele Buchanan, the General Manager, immediately responded to my review. I called the cell number Michele provided on a Sunday (she actually picked up!) and I immediately knew she wanted to help in any way she could. She offered to pay for any repairs done to my vehicle. Turns out the nail didn't penetrate all the way through my tire and my tire Fitting kit needed to be replaced. So this loss of tire pressure had nothing to do with the nail in my tire. I reached out to update Michele and even though my tire pressure loss was not caused by the nail, she still is going to help for the inconvenience. This company has certainly made the right choice in filling their General Manager position with Michele Buchanan. Thank you for making things right. read more

Avoid at all costs! Three years later and I am still cleaning up this company's mess --- literally, cleaning up their mess; look at the pictures! From initial assessment to installation, this company was a complete disaster. Their assessor gave us incorrect information about rebates. We hired a heating contractor, then learned that the rebate NEECO said we qualified for was not in fact for our heating setup. This would be enough to complain about, but their insulation install was far worse. The lead contractor from NEECO was going through our personal tools, paint and brushes in our basement and USED THEM without our consent. I only realized this because I heard them making an insane amount of noise in the basement when they had no reason to be there. I had to dispose of all these items after their use because the contractor was using a hammer to open a can of paint. This alone should show you the ignorance of the folks they employ. By chance, our installation was independently assessed by Abode Energy Management, a company Mass Save utilizes to ensure contractors are doing work correctly. No surprise after the experience up to this point, but they found multiple issues with NEECO's insulation installation. They failed to install flashing in the crawl spaces and around the chimney so all the loose blown insulation went right through the cracks. Abode helped us find another contractor to finish the work because I refused to have NEECO back in my home, but the damage had already been done. The new contractor said there was nothing they could do to fix the loose blown insulation that had made it's way through the cracks. This is why, three years later, I am still cleaning up this company's mess. I cannot believe Mass Save is still endorsing this company. If I could leave 0 stars I would. It all started a few months ago when I scheduled an energy audit. I took the Friday off work and waited. 8:30 rolled around and I got a call that they were cancelling to take the four day weekend. Awesome, burned a vacation day for that. Couldn't reschedule for over a month and they couldn't send anyone else out. The inspector comes out and does a shitty job, pokes his head in the attic but doesn't quote the job correctly. Our inspector when we bought the house told us we needed more insulation up there, but the audit person took a quick peek without walking around and said it was fine. Schedule for the crew to come out and replace our weather stripping and calk the attic. Get a call a week in advance after putting in for my vacation day, they want to come in the middle of the week instead of my vacation day I scheduled. Somehow keep my cool and get them to keep the appointment. Or so I thought. Morning of, 10am rolls around, no sign of the crew. Get a call a bit later to saying that my crew called out...AGAIN. Luckily this time they decide to send another crew, but can't show up until noon. Fine. Crew shows up, walks around the attic and says the audit guy should've walked around because we clearly need more insulation and our vent pipes replaced with insulated ones, but they can't do it that day so they will have to schedule ANOTHER appointment (I'm sure they'll try to cancel again) to come back and do that. They complete the calking and replace out weather stripping. Weather stripping is a joke - they replaced a proper seal with a stupid flap and left a quarter inch gap on the end that cold air now blows through. Had to order my own replacement online and now I fix it myself. Today I go up in the attic to replace our light bulbs with LED ones, looking around at the work they did and notice that my bathroom exhaust vent fans were all disconnected. One of them had even been ripped off the exhaust pipe in the roof. Absolutely ridiculous and unsafe. Complete scam. I had to reattach them all myself. Feel bad for people who aren't physically able to get in the attic and inspect the crappy work these people do, leaving people with unsafe exhaust conditions in their homes. Don't use this company!! You would think that the job would get done right the first time! It took 3 times before they were able to fix what they had done wrong and hopefully the job is finally done right. I used this company as my neighbor was satisfied with their work as one of the contractors through Mass Save program but he has vinyl siding on his house. My house has wooden shingles. They started the job in November. When a few of the shingles fell off after a few weeks, we realized that the exposed holes they had drilled into the house to blow in the insulation did not have styrofoam plugs covering the holes. Then, over the winter, more shingles cracked and fell off and again, exposed holes and no plugs! I have photos of this. When the crew came the third time, we asked that they check all sides of the house where the shingles had been cut and they found more holes on all four sides without plugs. I am hoping they checked and corrected ALL the holes but am I supposed to supervise the whole job to see if everything is done correctly? I called to submit a complaint and I've been told the original crew no longer works for them but I would NOT recommend this company! read more

Absolute scam. Mass saves sent Neeco out to our house in May 2019. 14 painful visits later (14 from Neeco and several other separately by the Mass Saves inspector), and over a year has gone by, they finally "finished" July 2020. Finished is a strong compliment; by finished I mean they finally connected all 3 bathroom fans in the attic that THEY disconnected and left unattached in our attic in prior visits. Also by finish, I mean they left the house unscathed. Several visits ago they smashed a perfectly functioning closet shelving system because they didn't want me to move it out of their way to enter the attic. Within 2 seconds after I offered to move it (it was on wheels) I heard a crash and it had completely scratched up our newly finished hardwood floors. They never covered that damage. They installed "new weather stripping" on our doors that left a huge gap and we had to purchase the right sized stripping and install ourselves. We had roughly 12 different crews throughout the house during this time, each one revisiting the original scope of the project and having yet another excuse why they couldn't complete the work. Run from this company, absolute scam. Mass saves should not contract through Neeco. We are lucky we were able to access the attic ourselves to inspect what they did each visit and self manage this disaster. read more

When I was contacted by Mass Save and told my home was eligible for a "no-cost" home energy assessment, I was skeptical. I was fairly sure the visit would either be some form of sales call aimed to separate me from my money for energy efficiency projects of questionable worth, or the audit would be cursory and limited in value. Fortunately, my local plumber (128 Plumbing) recommended that I work with NEEECO. He assured me they were top notch and any work they carried out would be valuable, thorough, and professionally done. Boy were they right! On the day of the audit, Brandon Dorrington arrived, explained the program and what he would be doing in detail, and then spent the several hours (!) going over every inch of my single-family house from attic to basement. He literally replaced every single light bulb in the house (nearly 100) with energy efficient LED type bulbs, even the fancy ones in the dining room chandelier! That alone, if I had to pay for them, would cost over $1000, but was included for free with the audit. He also left me with a brand new, energy efficient power strip. But the real benefit was the detailed blueprint he drew up listing every single energy efficiency upgrade I needed, and then spent time explaining not only what the upgrade entailed, but why it would work and how much money I could expect to save. He managed to find multiple utility and state rebates that my house would qualify for, and the various projects he recommended that would normally cost $12,000, after rebates and incentives ended up costing just over $2000. The expected payback in energy cost savings was just 3 years. I really couldn't imagine such a positive outcome. My auditor, Brandon, did a truly excellent job, and I highly recommend NEEECO if you are considering a home energy survey. The only question I found myself asking is why I didn't get this done sooner! read more
