Peter was a very relatable "front man" who handled the front end of the business. He knew what we needed, and he helped us navigate MassSave. Curtis was a huge asset on-site asking questions, directing traffic, and wrapping up business on the back-end. Curtis, Steve, Isaiah, and others were amazingly respectful in-house ... they laid down mats on the floor, let me know what was going on as it was going on, and this next part may sound like "not much" but I am amazed at how not-noisy they were. For instance, I was home the entire time, and they brought up I-don't-know-how-many two-by-eights and I never heard a thing come through the front door, up the stairs, or up the ladder to the attic. The final result had a small snag, and Curtis cheerfully came by the next day to finish it off, and I was grateful that it was barely even a conversation -- he just heard me, saw it, and did it. Polar Bear Insulation was an amazing company to work with. They returned my phone call within a day and came out to do an estimate the next week. Our attic was a very tricky setup due to being an old house with tough access to the eaves. They came up with a great solution and got us right on their schedule. They did an amazing job air sealing and insulating the attic. Our house has never been so warm. We no longer have icicles and ice dams on our eaves from the heat escaping and melting the snow. They also left the house just as clean as they found it. Due to the location of our attic access, they had to walk through the entire house. While we found the MassSaves program a little confusing to navigate (in part because we also took advantage of the HEAT loan financing option), Peter from Polar Bear made his end of the job as easy as possible. Zach and his crew arrived on time on the appointed day with an additional crew due to a cancellation. The ENTIRE TEAM of 6-8 people were courteous, respectful and attentive to every detail. It's a stressful process to undertake on an old home but their experience and professional came through at every opportunity. They finished two days early and continuously reviewed their progress with both my husband and I several times a day. We had a home energy assessment done through Mass Save back in December. As part of that assessment Mass Save assigned Polar Bear Insulation to our project. Polar Bear showed up at 8am Monday morning and finished up around 3pm on Wednesday afternoon. These guys work in a meticulously clean fashion which is not necessarily easy given the task at hand. They also worked their butts off!!! They completely air sealed our home and insulated our barren crawl space and attic area which had almost no insulation since the house was built in the mid-50's. In the 2 days between when they left and me getting around to writing this review we have had 2 of the coldest days of this winter. Days like these we would typically have our heat cranked up and the boiler would work overtime nonstop. NOT ANY MORE!! The house is comfortable and much more easily regulated with the Nest Thermostats...also installed by Mass Save. I cannot recommend Peter and his crew enough for anyone looking for an insulation contractor...whether through Mass Save or privately. read more

We recently used polar bear insulation through mass saves. Crew was thorough and professional. The process was explained well and it was finished in a reasonable timeline. Crew is inside your house quite a bit so finding an insulation company that you are comfortable with is important. My wife was home most of the 3 days and felt safe around the crew of "normal" guys. Best part is they were honest and deducted cost of service based on any areas previously insulated so bill was half the quote. Overall nice experience. read more

After having a Mass Save (virtual) home energy assessment a year ago, I took their list of approved insulation contractors and checked the local ones here on Yelp. And based upon the posted reviews, I gave Polar Bear a call. I immediately liked the fact that, in addition to being a decades-old family business, the owner actually answered his own phone. I explained to Peter that I would need to schedule as far out as possible, within Mass Save's completion deadline, because I needed to empty 43-yrs of family "collecting" from this attic/crawl-space that's been "out-of-sight, out-of-mind" for so long. So, even though it would likely be a one-day job, he booked me for the last 3 work-days before the deadline, just to play it safe. He told me that there was a possibility Mass Save might extend the deadline for completion. Mass Save did, in fact, extend the deadline twice and Peter called both times to see if I wanted to change my appointment and I did. I spent much of this time gathering all the info I could find from online sources like This Old House, etc. about the work to be done. As a result I asked Peter if he could come check-out the job beforehand. He took the time to visit & answer all my questions, which was a great relief. Because the Mass Save assessment was "virtual" (by phone), the original quote only included the attic. Peter determined that my walls were also insufficiently insulated and submitted the info to Mass Save to have that added. He also arranged for the necessary approval inspection. I was still a bit concerned that 2 guys would be able to complete all that had to be done. But once I saw James & Matt go to work, that concern was gone! They had a system and seemed to know each-others' every move. They worked incredibly hard, in thoroughly oppressive heat & humidity. These guys are truly impressive!!! They finished the attic the first day and returned the next day with a 2nd crew to do the walls in a half day and thoroughly cleaned-up. Though I refer to Yelp reviews frequently, I think this is my first time posting one. But I feel I would be remiss if I did not write this one. Great service from these guys Peter, James, Frankie (might be Freddy) are very professional, wonderful and skilled. Each step of the process was well explained, all of our questions were answered. They showed up a little before 8am and left around 3 or 4pm. From beginning to the end it was a wonderful experience. When they left it was as if they never had been here. We thought we would have to replace some of the shingles they took off to blow in the insulation but they did a great job at keeping them all in one piece and putting them back. It Doesn't even look like any of them were taken off. They did an amazing job! The temperature in the house is much better and easier to regulate now. Multiple shingles are ruined and there area noticeable holes all over our house. If we were informed there would be so much damage to our house we may have reconsidered the work through MassSave. Now, we need to get shingles replaced and have the house painted again. MassSave sent Polar Bear to insulate and air-seal our house. They've been *terrific* - a bunch of nice guys, who explained the entire process, and did exactly what they said they would do. There was even one step that they didn't have to do. They explained why, and removed it from the bill. Before they left, they even vacuumed up the insulation dust that got into the closet where the attic hatch is located. The air leakage in our house was reduced by 40% according to the blower door test at the end! Having received residential energy auditing certification several year ago, I know how that test works, and all I can say is that I'm amazed they got it down that far - it's hard to do with this style house. Now we can sit back, relax, and think of all the heat we won't to be sending to the great outdoors when winter rolls around ... and all the money we're going to save as a result!
