After having a Mass Save (virtual) home energy assessment a year ago, I took their list of approved insulation contractors and checked the local ones here on Yelp. And based upon the posted reviews, I gave Polar Bear a call. I immediately liked the fact that, in addition to being a decades-old family business, the owner actually answered his own phone. I explained to Peter that I would need to schedule as far out as possible, within Mass Save's completion deadline, because I needed to empty 43-yrs of family "collecting" from this attic/crawl-space that's been "out-of-sight, out-of-mind" for so long. So, even though it would likely be a one-day job, he booked me for the last 3 work-days before the deadline, just to play it safe. He told me that there was a possibility Mass Save might extend the deadline for completion. Mass Save did, in fact, extend the deadline twice and Peter called both times to see if I wanted to change my appointment and I did. I spent much of this time gathering all the info I could find from online sources like This Old House, etc. about the work to be done. As a result I asked Peter if he could come check-out the job beforehand. He took the time to visit & answer all my questions, which was a great relief. Because the Mass Save assessment was "virtual" (by phone), the original quote only included the attic. Peter determined that my walls were also insufficiently insulated and submitted the info to Mass Save to have that added. He also arranged for the necessary approval inspection. I was still a bit concerned that 2 guys would be able to complete all that had to be done. But once I saw James & Matt go to work, that concern was gone! They had a system and seemed to know each-others' every move. They worked incredibly hard, in thoroughly oppressive heat & humidity. These guys are truly impressive!!! They finished the attic the first day and returned the next day with a 2nd crew to do the walls in a half day and thoroughly cleaned-up. Though I refer to Yelp reviews frequently, I think this is my first time posting one. But I feel I would be remiss if I did not write this one. We originally started out wanting additional insulation added in our attic of our 8 year old home. We've had solar panels and security cameras installed so there has been a lot of unintended foot traffic up there that had matted it down over the years. Polar Bear came by and gave us an estimate to have the added insulation and suggested we go through Mass Save to get a significant discount. We started our Mass Save experience and had the attic sealed before any COVID-19 restrictions. We then asked Polar Bear to allow us to have a contractor come and install shelves after the sealing but before they finished the job with the installation of the insulation. They were very accommodating and worked with our ever changing schedule as we delayed the contractors week after week until things settled down enough for the work to be completed. They came within 2 days after the shelves were completed and we had left town for a family visit the day before. Everything was completed within a day and there was no evidence of any work being done anywhere else in the house. The insulation inspection was scheduled for us and it passed with no issues. Polar Bear's communication through the whole process was incredible and we never had any issues with canceling scheduled work or having them come on short notice. Arranging the date was a breeze. Peter worked with me to find a date and time that worked best. He responded in a very timely ma. We to my questions prior to the process beginning. Made me feel confident from the start. The Team arrived right on time as planned through the office. They rang the doorbell and were fully masked. They identified themselves and got straight to work. Floor tarps were laid down and furniture covered. Both team members were courteous and polite and ready to answer my questions about the process. The first day they worked on the attic and when done, vacuumed as they left. The next day was walls and basement and if you look at my home, you'd never be able to tell which shingles were removed for the process. Curtis and Zach were a professional team, knew the process and product and left everything as if they had never been there! I contacted Mass Save to evaluate our home's insulation, which was bad. Mass Save pays 75% of the cost to insulate the house. They contracted Polar Bear Insulation to do the work. Peter, the owner, scheduled me a few months out and their crew arrived on the appointed date. The attic is large and very difficult (low roof) to maneuver. They spent two days sealing up spots where the old insulation was and hit every recessed light and vent/chimney in the attic, including a large ceiling fan. Then they blew in a large amount of loose insulation 10" high. They also put weather strips on all our storm doors. I was very impressed with how hard and fast they worked and how clean my house and yard looked when they finished. Curtis, who was the lead guy, has excellent customer/communication skills as he explained the rational on everything they did. I saw them measure how much air was seeping into the house before the job and then after they finished. There was a dramatic improvement! It's great our state does this for home owners. Polar Bear Insulation recently performed the insulation on our two family home in Methuen Mass as part of the Mass Save program. From the scheduling of the appointment with Pete, to the crew completing the work, the entire process was seamless and professional. The crew arrived on time and worked diligently for two days. During the process if we had questions, they were answered without delay. Once the work was completed they cleaned up so well, that no one would have known they were even here. Having an older house we knew that insulating it would prove to be beneficial, but we did not expect that the results would be immediate. The temperature in the house remains more consistent and does not require us to keep increasing the temperature to remain warm. Also, it seems as though the outside sounds have decreased as well. I highly recommend Polar Bear Insulation. Through Mass Save, Polar Bear insulated my entire house. Attic, walls, basement and crawl spaces. The process was seamless from start to finish. Curtis, Steve and the crew insulated the entire house in 2 and half days. Each day, they came on time, did the work and always cleaned up the area worked on. Curtis would always explain what they were doing each day and then would show us the work upon completion. We appreciated that every crew member wore a mask when inside the house. These guys worked HARD - three days. Arrived at the time they said they would and never stopped. Explained what they were doing, what the plan was for the next day, asked if we had any questions. Cleaned up - inside and out. Our house is older and shows its age. Curtis and his partner showed their concerns - explained the options of moving forward and the pros and cons of those steps to the house. We felt the difference after day one and really felt it after day two. As they finish up now - i could not be more satisfied. But when they said they could do insulation too, I was beyond happy. We had Polar Bear come by and do a complete home insulation improvement through MassSave. Originally they were contracted to come for one day but noticed a few issues missed by MassSave, like how our walls were lacking the proper amount of insulation. Polar took care of everything quickly and efficiently; they came back within 5 calendar days and finished the job! The crew on site were friendly, polite and clean; any mess left behind was cleaned. The crew chief was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions during the in-depth explanation of what they were doing to improve our home. 10/10 would recommend Polar Bear even without MassSave involved! read more

We used Polar Bear to insulate our attic through Mass Save and they were excellent! Peter responded promptly to my inquiry and took the time to answer all of my questions. They were also able to fit us in a month ahead of schedule after they got a cancellation. Install day was very smooth. The guys were on time, so courteous and extremely tidy! The Polar Bear Insulation crew working at my house were fast, clean, and professional. I could instantly tell they were experienced when I saw them working with my old aluminum siding.
