Finally got the chance to try out this new place after walking past it a couple times! I got the curry laksa and was happy with my experience! As someone who grew up eating a lot of laksa noodles, I liked their thick curry broth as it was well seasoned and had very strong coconut flavors!! I very much enjoyed the noodles as they were cooked really nicely: chewy but al dente. I really wish they had a spicy curry option though. The noodles came with chicken, bok choy, and bean sprouts. The veggies were pretty solid but the chicken pieces were a little dry on the inside. The fried garlic bits definitely added to the overall flavors. I loved the cute aesthetics!! Pops of warm colors with lots of green plants and wooden tables/chairs. Service was great and staff members were all wearing masks appropriately. They also have a couple of tables outside on the side walk. read more

Cute restaurant and my bartender/server was very nice. I ordered the peanut salad and the fried rice with chicken. I think where I went wrong is that I need to be gluten-free. It did not taste like the rice or chicken had any seasoning so I had to keep asking for another packet of gluten-free soy sauce. If I came back here again, I would try the curry. I also got the blackberry bramble drink, and that was yummy. read more

Any time my husband and I are in Richmond, this is one of our go to spots! Locally owned, cozy and aesthetic ambiance, friendly and welcoming staff, and DELICIOUS food and bevs! If you're visiting, and you have the honor of having Lorna or Caleb as your bartender, you're in for a treat! 10/10 recommend! read more

the ambience and service was great, but the food itself was alright. it's not bad, just not authentic. still pretty tasty however. they have a large variety of drinks available, (fancy cocktails for sure), and a good amount of food options. definitely the vibe for a business or casual quick dinner. read more

A friend took me to this spot for the first time on our lunch break! The restaurant is really cute inside. I liked how the menu had all types of different influences. I ended up getting a hibachi plate. My friend did as well. It was a perfect lunch portion and it was delicious! I wish I had more time, because there were a lot of other things I wanted to try. I definitely plan on coming back to try more! read more

I was excited to try this place based on the previous reviews, but I was left confused by the high ratings. The food was edible but not good at all. The open kitchen layout felt awkward tasting bad food in front of the people who made it. The staff hung out at the bar and made it feel like you were interrupting their downtime, rather than being part of a normal service atmosphere. read more

I liked the food but the establishment was small and the tables are way too close together. I don't want people's germs or to hear about their day. For this reason, we won't be back. read more

I came here for working lunch -- it was so busy! Glad I got there a few minutes before meeting a colleague, as it was packed within minutes of arriving. Service was quick & friendly. I ordered a lemonade & the hibachi bowl with chicken lunch special. The lemonade is homemade and refreshing. There was an underlying flavor to it I couldn't put my finger on but made the drink stand out from typical lemonades. I thought the lunch special would be small, but it was a lot of food! It all tasted delicious and freshly made. read more

By sheer luck or divine culinary guidance we happened upon Native Plate during our east coast roadtrip to NYC for the holidays. We had many enjoyable meals in Brooklyn and Manhattan but our favorite was this little gem in Richmond. Everything about Native Plate was superb. The seating is comfortable, the vibe chill, and the music so good that I asked for the streaming link. The drinks were outstanding, the Pok Pok chicken wings were crispy, savory, spicy, sweet perfection and our all-time favorite wings, along with the Singapore noodles. The wait staff was welcoming and I much enjoyed my conversation with the bartender. In the future when on I-95 and passing through Richmond, we'll plan a stop at Native Plate, our new favorite restaurant. read more

Very friendly and helpful staff; creative cocktails; and most importantly, excellent food. We had the larb gai, calimari, and nasi goreng. Everything was good with larb gai being our favorite. Nicely spicy without being overbearing. read more

We were going to go here for a birthday dinner, but glad we only came for lunch. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing. The pineapple stir fry had alright flavor and the pineapple was browning. The steak bulgogi and poke bowl were good. The Indonesian fried rice had good flavor (might be a little spicy for others), but I thought it was good. read more

Cocktails were FANTASTIC! Great place to have a few drinks for happy hour. We also had some appetizers which were crispy egg rolls and pork gyoza. Those there tasty and filling. Lorna and Kaleb were really friendly and made really good drinks! We are from Orlando and visiting the area. What a great find! read more

This is a nice place with OK food. Lots of food but really nothing that special. The service was polite but not great.

Meat portion size is very small for what you pay for. Fried rice lacks serious flavor & body

I first heard about this place through the Instagram page @therichmondexperience (which, by the way, always has great recommendations!) when they featured several of the menu items from Native Plate. One caught my eye: the duck bao buns. What an interesting concept, I thought. My boyfriend headed out there for dinner and were blown away by the service, ambiance, food, and drinks. We started off sharing the cauliflower appetizer - which totally impressed right from the start. We then shared the well-anticipated duck bao buns and the Bulgogi BBQ, with the guava mojito and lavender lemon mule on the side. I was so impressed by every aspect of this place, and am so looking forward to returning & checking out everything else they have to offer! read more

Food was decent! Loved the Indonesian fried rice but haven't had it before so no standard for comparison. I liked the mild kick it had! Tomatoes were a nice touch too :) also got the duck baos which were kind of odd, not really traditional duck skin/sliced duck that usually goes in it but was like "carnitas" style duck? Like pulled duck? Idk lol tasted like carnitas though and had lots of stuff on it. Interesting fusion I suppose! Ambiance was great and def feels like a higher end Americanized restaurant! Great bar :) guava mojito was delicious although would've been better with mint had they not run out. Parking is street! read more

They transformed the interior from what it used to be when it was Citizen and it's gorgeous but I would recommend this spot for drinks only. I really wanted to like this place more but I wasn't too impressed with their apps/entrees. I ordered the Schezwan Chicken - There was way too much onion and the flavor was only okay. I would probably get a fried rice dish in the future which seems to be more worth the bang for your buck. We also got the rice paper rolls as an appetizer, flavor was also lacking here and the peanut sauce was bland. Drinks were probably the best part, they had plenty of options for super cute cocktails garnished with fresh fruit, candied fruits, herbs, etc. So fun! Good service overall, no complaints, everything came out in a timely manner. Since this is downtown, you will have to parallel park and you can make reservations via google! read more

Good food. Fun and lively atmosphere. Interesting cocktails! The servers were friendly and fast.

What a treat! My sister and I were in town to see Bonnie Raitt at the Altria and decided to go to Native Plate for a bite before the concert. Our server Eric was awesome - funny, genuine, very attentive without being over the top, and gave great recommendations on the menu. Native offers some unique cocktails and an interesting mix of Asian fusion appetizers and entrees. We ordered a delicious gin cocktail, the cauliflower gochujang, gyoza, and curry laksa. All of it was DELICIOUS. The servings are generous at a very reasonable price. It's not big inside but cozy and nicely decorated. I highly recommend stopping in if you're in the area. read more

Came for lunch on a weekday, it wasn't super busy but they definitely have a following. Lots of fun drinks and we tried a bunch, I ordered a spicy margarita and asked for it extra spicy ...had to ask for more syrup to fix it Which brings me to the food, it's good but watch out for the spice level. They really tried to represent South East Asian cuisine and you're spoiled for choice. I had the Singapore noodles(good) and my wife had the Szechuan chicken(chicken was dry). Our server was very attentive and did a great job overall. read more

The food was absolutely AMAZING! As a vegan, I am throughly pleased with the menu selections for people who are plant based. For appetizers, we ordered gochujang cauliflower and rice paper rolls; both exceptionally delicious. For my entrée, I ordered the Bao Buns with tofu (on the menu it says duck so shout out to my waiter for the recommendation) and they were DEVINE! I highly recommend this place to anyone who is plant based. The staff were all friendly and the service was top tier. The food came out fast which was good for us being that we were hungry for lunch. The ambiance was extremely chill and laid back with a welcoming vibe. read more

Love the ambiance, food was great too! And service was awesome! And bathroom was clean too (always important to me!)

If i could give 10 stars I would this is a new addition to the downtown food scene and has an eclectic asian inspired menu. I am a HUGE foodie and must say the flavors, food quality, ambience and overall value is superb! We got the matcha mint julep (YUM), octopus salad (Vietnamese flavors), duck fries, curry and Dan dan noodles (just the right amount of heat). Go right now - you won't regret it!!! read more

SO GOOD. I went on opening day for lunch. Super friendly waitstaff, everyone wore masks, beautiful interior design. My pho was delicious with the added Thai basil and serranos, and fair warming - their house made chili is HOT I put a spoonful in my soup and was (happily) sweating. I got wings on the side- were tangy and juicy. Highly recommended, Will certainly be back soon. read more

Fine - not great. Service was fine; came on tail end of lunch shift so the restaurant wasn't busy. Staff was friendly and helpful. Ordered the Dan Dan noodles - my noodles were gummy and the beef - while tender - was part of a dish that lacked unique flavor. The iced coffee was a fun "activity" and was pretty delicious. Overall - wouldn't necessarily recommend or rush back; but you wouldn't have to twist my arm to try again ... ya know? Update: I had Dan Dan Noodles at another restaurant and had to come back and reduce my rating - Native Plate's version gets a thumbs down from me. read more

Picked this restaurant because of all the good reviews. The service and atmosphere were great, but the food was disappointing. Points for all the houseplants by the window. Calamari: good texture and sauce but super salty Beef pho: not enough soup and the meat was really tough Laksa noodle soup: not enough soup but the flavor was good though Duck buns: super dry duck and the toppings just didn't compliment the meat I like the idea of having all of these different types of cuisines together, but they need a lot of work. read more

We stumbled upon Native Plate after walking The Richmond Slave Trail - actually Yelp lead lead us there! We were very pleased - I had The Nadi Goreng & my friend The Chinese Bao. They serve a variety of. Asian street foods - the menu had Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese & Indonesian / Malaysian options. Food was good, place was clean & they had outdoor tables. Decent beer selection but oddly no ice tea which in the South is utter blasphemy Service was attentive & friendly -though TBH it wasn't busy since it was past 1pm on a weekday Well worth a visit. read more
