We picked Native Fields as the location of our last Kiwanis meeting of the term. They have plenty of seating for large groups, but unfortunately for us, their music was too loud to hear each other and for those who attending with us virtually on zoom, so we had to move outside to their patio seating. Not the best spot since my legs got bit up pretty badly with unseen creatures (unclear if it was mosquitos or not since the bumps that showed up on both legs weren't red, but they certainly were itchy =/) in the span of 30 minutes. I'll definitely never sit in their outdoor dining area any more. I wanted something light but filling and the grilled chicken tocino ($22) sounded great. And yes, it was light, filling, and delicious! I couldn't choose my favorite part -- the grilled chicken, the brown rice (which wasn't hard or dry!), the roasted cauliflower, the vibrant salad mix, or the 6-min soft-boiled egg with just the right amount of runny yolk! It worked so well together! I finished the entire bowl and usually I would feel so full and uncomfortable afterwards, but not after this bowl! I can see myself ordering this again if I'm not tempted by the other bowls. Everyone gets hit with a 18% service charge, unless you're a group of six or more, then you're hit with a 20% service charge. I have been coming here for a few years and I don't know why it's taken me so long to write a review! The food is always on point. We have come for breakfast and dinner multiple times. You can tell all of the food is super high quality. For breakfast I love the ricotta pancakes. You have to get them no matter what. The crispy breakfast potatoes are always perfect. For dinner I love their burger, the garlic parm fries and you have to try the bacon wrapped dates. I have never come here and not been happy with my food. The staff is also very knowledgeable about the food itself and the ingredients they use. They are helpful with accommodating food allergies as well read more

Came for a weekday lunch with a girlfriend and there was no wait to be seated, but we had to wait almost 20 minutes to get our food. My friends and I were looking for a new place to have breakfast/brunch and stumbled across your restaurant. When we arrived, we thought it was quaint. We were immediately seated, we were brought a bottle of cold water, placed our orders and were happy with our experience so far. Our order came and 2 of the 3 of us thought the food was great. Our issue was not with the food, but rather the service. When our food came, one of us ordered drip coffee, which took a very long time to arrive after asking for it at least 3 times. One of us ordered hot Cafe de Olla, and when it came, it was iced. No problem, but it took 15-20 to arrive. We added an order of toast, asked for butter and jam for our toast. When we finished and the check came, we saw that we were charged $2 for the jam, $1 for the butter and when asked if we could get a coffee refill we were told it would be $4.00, for a refill of drip coffee! We also ordered a refill of hot Cafe de Olla, were told it would be $4. When we ordered it , we were charged $7 instead of the $4 quoted. After a lengthy discussion, we were refunded the original charge and recharged the $4 as quoted. We waited another 20 minutes and the order came back wrong, not once, but twice! 3.5-4 stars I have heard great things about Native Fields from many of my coworkers, and finally got the chance to try it today for lunch. The flavors and taste of everything was delicious, but attention to detail for the Grilled Chicken Tocino did not meet expectations for me, especially since it cost me $23+ (tax and tip). Grilled Chicken Tocino / 23 Grilled Boneless Free-Range Chicken, Brown Rice, Seasonal Vegetables, 6-min Egg, Farmers Market Greens and Kamatis GF Pandan Coconut Cold Brew / 7 Pandan Coconut Condensed Milk + 24 Hour CB + Coconut Milk While the Grilled Chicken Tocino was stated as "boneless," but the chicken slices in my bowl had multiple pieces with cartilage or bone. Because I only had 1 napkin offered, I had to rip apart my 1 napkin to accommodate the separate pieces of bone and cartilage. Even the egg has a tiny part of a shell. These are details I would not have expected to have encountered for something so pricey. The flavors of the marinated chicken were on point, and it was very tender, I would suggest removing the word "boneless" on the menu. I also guess since the restaurant is touted as a Farmer's Market Restaurant, pieces of market greens will be all over the place in shape and size. The Pandan Coconut Cold Brew is very subtle, as expected. Overall, the flavors for the cold brew are good. I will also echo what another Yelper had mentioned, the cold brew was not filled to the top of the cup either. There was a bit of room... a bit disappointing for $7 but it is what it is. On a weekday, the lunch crowd was not as busy as I expected, even though, the online reservations were all taken. There only seemed to be one server, so not much in terms of service were provided as well. The interior is very modern and the door on the right is for "enter" and the door on the left is for "exit." It was a bit hard to converse with my coworker, and I am not sure if it was feedback or noise from other diners. I most certainly would not have expected this type of food in this area, but it is a nice alternative. I do feel clean and healthy after my meal. If you are looking for a quick grab and go, I would suggest only coming here when you have more than an hour for lunch. Such amazing food every time we dine here! I just discovered they do pastries too and they're phenomenal!!! They just added a vegan bucatini and it's my new favorite! My husband got the tamarind pork belly and he said it was delicious! I visited Native Fields with a large group of friends on a Wednesday afternoon, and we sat outside on the patio. There were a few flies - to be expected for outdoor seating - but I admired the rustic interior design, which made for a pleasurable walk towards the restroom. I ordered the Roasted Turkey BLTA, and it was everything one could have expected in a traditional BLT sandwich. The bread was toasted to perfection and the aioli was a nice complement to the BLT sandwich. I am not a huge fan of turkey, but I felt adventurous that day and it did not make or break the sandwich. I ordered it with a side salad rather than potatoes, and it was then that I wish I hadn't. I am not sure which vegetable it was, but I tasted a leafy green that was so bitter that it masked all the other leafy greens. The portions were petite for that price point, but it was most definitely not excessive or a deal breaker in any way. The service outdoors felt a little lackluster. It was a hot summer afternoon, and with a large party, we went thru water quite quickly. Some of the water felt room temperature rather than cold to touch, and we were only checked on towards the beginning and the end of the meal. I think it would have been nice for the server to check up on the table after serving our food and also in the middle of the meal. I did not mind the automatic gratuity so much since I visited with a large party, but I think that we could have had a little more attention with our server. While I did not particularly enjoy my first experience at Native Fields, I do see myself giving it a second chance in the future. I am surprised that this has a 4+ average with hundreds of reviews, and I likely had a bad experience or came on an off day. Been wanting to try this place for a while after seeing all the gorgeous photos and positive reviews from some of my fellow Yelpers. I actually took a day off from work to come here on a weekday morning, just to beat the crowd. I only tried one item so my experience isn't complete. I thought my dish was good, but not as good as I expected. I actually wanted to try the Lamb Shakshuka which I saw on some of the previous menu photos, but it wasn't available at the time of my visit. It was replaced with Grass-Fed Beef Shakshuka instead. It was a good dish overall, but didn't taste like shakshuka I had in the past. It wasn't spicy, nor have any cumin or paprika flavors. Service was slow, even though it wasn't busy. Was here around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, and there were only two other parties besides me and my wife. I was willing to let it go before but this keeps happening and it's becoming ridiculous. How do you have a mushroom pasta as a menu item and NOT HAVE ONE MUSHROOM available and didn't tell guest until 20 minutes after placing the order. How do you have melon stone fruit salad WITH NO STONE FRUITS or MELONS?? How do you have a winter chopped salad with winter squash and it has NO SQUASH and then you replace the squash for apples?? I get that it's farm to table so ingredients won't be always available but if the restaurant does not have any of the main ingredients then at least tell the customers. Came by for some brunch. We both ordered some drinks, and French toast and pancakes. We were greeted when we arrived and quickly shown to our table that was available. After a while or food arrived and we digged in. Overall food was quite tasty, however my pancakes were a very large portion so I recommend sharing if you're not super hungry as it is quite large. The overall environment was aesthetically decorated, and the staff came and checked on us quite frequently. The pancakes tasted all right, I would give it a 7/10. It's one of their items on the money that stays there year round, so I wanted to try one of their staples. For $17, plus the automatic 18% gratuity I am not sure it was exactly worth that. I would say overall was a little pricey, for slightly glamorized breakfast and brunch foods. Walked in on a Friday night and they had a table ready within 10 minutes. Ordered the fries, brisket, hangar steak, and mushroom bucatini pasta. Ambience: 3/5 Loved half the restaurant. Was decorated well and they had a live musician playing which was great but a bit loud and hard to have conversation over the volume. Unfortunately, I think half the restaurant didn't have central AC. The owner, I believe, was very mindful not to have customers seated in the no AC section. Service: 3/5 Don't get me wrong, the staff here is very nice and friendly but frankly I think a bit lost. My fries order came with house ranch per the menu and we had to ask two twice for it. We ordered chimichurri sauce on the side for the steak and we asked one of the waiters for it when our steak came without it and he said that the sauce, the zhoug and tahini sauce on the side, was the chimichurri... we knew this wasn't the case and had to flag down a different waiter to bring us our chimichurri. The steak and brisket dishes also came as thickly cut pieces without knives on the table.... It took us a while to flag down the waiter for the knives and the food even got a bit cold while waiting. Food: 2/5 The brisket and steak were tender but very dry. I wouldn't suggest eating these without any sauce. Their bucatini mushroom pasta was cooked well and was our favorite amongst the shared entrees. The garlic rice that came with the brisket seemed like it was just white rice with some garlic on top. Perhaps I need to come here again to try their brunch, it seems like a stronger menu. Overall dinner experience here was average.The waiters need better training on the menu, what sauces are included and what they look like... and what utensils to serve the dishes with. So, you think we'd get our food in a timely manner, but we were waiting for quite a while. I got a sandwich with potatoes, and I'll admit, the potatoes were AMAZING. Perfectly crispy and soft on the inside. The sandwich however, felt like it had been sitting out a while because the bread was so soggy- spongy and wet. I couldn't even finish it. My grandma got the pork sisig tacos though, and the flavor was great. Just another texture issue- they were soooo oily. She couldn't finish them, either. I just tried Native Fields first time with my big girl today and it became one of our favorite local restaurants. I've been told that this place has great food, but I haven't got a chance to try it until today. It's located at a strip mall (24 hour fitness is also in that plaza) on Amar and Nogales St. We first got attracted by their nice outdoor patio and when we got inside, the ambience was very welcoming with modern decor and there's a mini organic grocery market section close to the entrance. It's a very cool idea and we wanna support our local business. They claim to use 100% locally sourced ingredients, and they have vegetarian, vegan and healthy options available. We got seated very quickly and ordered the roasted chicken BLTA sandwich because they were out of turkey meat and a side order of French Toast. It was a little pricey in this area but the quality was so great and fresh, and the portions were also large. The roasted chicken BLTA sandwich was the best sandwich that I've ever had! The chicken meat was so tender and juicy and even the sandwich was toasted perfectly. We even finished the crust that we normally won't eat. My girl picked potatoes instead of salad and it was very yummy. The French toast with good amount of strawberries, and the texture was so perfect, you just need to add little bit of syrup onto it. Service: Attentive and good service but can be improved a little. We were being told that they were out of the turkey meat, so the server asked us if it's okay to replace with the chicken meat. We said ok but we didn't know that it's not a replacement; they added extra $3 for chicken meat. I think it's better to tell the customer about the price differences. My hubby and I frequent LA and Pasadena for casual and fine dining and were really excited to hear that Native Fields was expanding their cafe to a full-service restaurant (bar coming soon). Prior to the pandemic, we loved coming by for their burgers and smoothies. Love that their mission is to serve farm-to-table and use fresh and locally-sourced ingredients. Fast forward to today, Native Fields has expanded their cafe into a beautiful modern-industrial restaurant with earth tones and plants that brighten up the space, which we can definitely appreciate! We've tried their brunch and dinner and have picked up a couple bottles of their natural wines as well. The food here is pretty good, but not quite good enough for prices that they are charging in the neighborhood though. I'm a Walnut resident and the prices at Native Fields are comparable, if not, more expensive than restaurants in LA / Pasadena with similar restaurant concepts. I write this because I believe that Native Fields has so much potential, being that they are still in their soft opening. Highlight dishes include the Lamb Shakshuka and the Beef Tartar. Staff here is very friendly. Hubby said his burger was on the dry side (would love to see them include fries and not have it a la carte) I think they are still working on hiring enough staff to meet the demand. We waited over an hour for brunch on Saturday and another 20-30 min. for food to come out. They get very busy, which obviously shows that they're doing well! But we're very happy to see Native Fields bringing the LA food scene on the Walnut map and we look forward to seeing more improvements from them when we return next. I have passed by this plaza so many times in my life, but did not know a place like this existed here. I was able to discover this place from Yelp when I tried to look for different food to try around the area. Great to see that this place has options for people that are Vegan or Vegetarian. The food here seems to be quite healthy and note that it is fused with other types of cuisines. One thing to note is that it could get quite pricey, but you get what you paid for. Food So I ended ordering a few dishes for me and my family. Korean Braised Brisket- This dish was a bit underwhelming. Don't get me wrong but I just felt like there needed to be some sauce or something more for this bowl. The Beef brisket had the flavor in it's fat but was lacking on the meat itself. Just have higher expectations for a $18 bowl. Kids Grilled Chicken Tocino Bowl (I believe this isn't on the menu, great to have it suggested to us, since we have a kid that has an allergy to egg) - The chicken is excellent, and it was a great mix with the cauliflower! Broccolini and Mushroom Sandwich- This was a pretty good sandwich but also just probably needed a bit more sauce or something. One thing you HAVE to get is the potatoes, it was packed with flavor, and crispy. Thought the place looked cool, liked that they had a huge outdoor patio, it was just a bit hot the day we went, and the patio top can only shield so much of the sun.
