Breakfast Tacos

My never ending quest for the perfect hashbrowns lead me to Nate's, which was further motivated after realizing it was on my list for years. What I eventually found both surprised and delighted me, and Nate's gets a thumbs up overall. Pictures are deceiving as I thought the place would be larger but it's a tight fit for bigger groups. There are only a handful of tables but plenty of character. It's also a bit grimey, unsightly and even a tinge dodgey, which may be a deal breaker for others but is an immediate appeal to me. Two things immediately standout when it comes to the food: the portions and the prices are outstanding. The offerings are as no frills as the rest of the establishment. The other surprise was how much influence there was from Mexican cuisine. Hash browns were the goal, but chorizo and chilaquiles were the bonus. Another surprise? The hash browns weren't as crispy as I would have wanted. It's entirely plausible that I came on an off day, which happens. However everything else was on point as my chorizo skillet was absolutely dynamite, pancakes were fluffy and indulgent, breakfast tacos were outstanding, and my eggs were perfectly softly scrambled. Even the bacon and sausage patties were delicious, which is a tall order considering it's not likely made in house. Lastly, as someone who drinks cold water like it's a hobby (#1), I'm especially grateful for the massive 32 oz cup of water, which is perfect for someone who drinks like a camel. The staff is not the quickest but they are friendly. Spanish may go further with most and they're not the quickest when it comes to greeting folks or cleaning tables. The food is the star and consider paying in cash. ____________ (#1) I'm thirsty.

The meatloaf had sold out by 11am, so it seems like it's still a popular item. I chose the country fried steak, which was crunchy and huge. It mostly tasted like slightly salty fried batter even though it looks like there's a good amount of meat. The mashed potatoes with white gravy was good. The broccoli was soft and slightly peppery. Staff clarified the cash cost (menu cost) vs credit card surcharge (3.99% of menu price). The grilled pork chop looked good (tender and seasoned well), even though it was thin.

Great service, convenient location with parking. I had the meatloaf w/ mashed potatoes and corn and my friend had a bacon cheeseburger. Both were ok. Nothing extraordinary but definitely not bad. Typical diner food. Good portion size for the price.

Not a place we would have even know about, but we were in the area and looking for breakfast. Tasty build your own omelette, perfect BLT, and great coffee. Service was very attentive and friendly. If in the area would definitely go back.

Bananas! This small nondescript diner, overwhelmed me (in a good way) with the flavor of bananas the cook managed to get in to their Nutella banana, pancake! The omelette with the hashbrowns inside was a thriller for texture, and with with the table side Cholula each bite was good for my taste buds too. Kat's Coffee and pancake syrup, flowed hot and fresh. We watched some chicken and waffles be delivered to the table next to us . I have a feeling I know what we're gonna order next time! By the end of breakfast, our son announced that this is where he wants to go for his birthday meal! Overall, this was a surprise. The people in the kitchen had their hairnets on, the bathroom was just okay. It was a nice meal to have between baseball games at Doss Park. Better than Chick-fil-A and open on Sundays for all the baseball parents We will be back to try the voodoo brew, Monday, meatloaf, battered to order chicken strips, and lunch!

I've been checking out the reviews of this place since I live literally a minute away. Decided to check it out and it was a hit. I ordered the chicken fajita plate for lunch. It was really yummy. I thought the chicken would be super dry, but it was perfect well seasoned, and the right portion for lunch. I also got flour tortillas and corn tortillas which were amazing. Not sure if they were homemade, but they are dangerously delicious. There was one waitress working and she was working at all by herself. We were pretty surprised that there were people coming in and out to a place that we thought was a hole in the wall for the locals. This was our first time at Nate's diner and will be back soon. So if you're in the area stop by for lunch, they have really good delicious deals.

Better than I expected -- don't let the looks fool you. It honestly looked a little sketchy at first and I wasn't too sure about the bathrooms... but once I sat down and looked around, it really wasn't bad at all. We ordered and the food was great! I actually almost finished my plate, which is rare since I'm so picky. The menu had a lot to choose from, and you can tell it's family-run. I even noticed a few other tables already knew the server.

Who knew? Breakfast available all day along with other goodies. Prices are right and the service attentive and personable. The exterior of this place is deceptive, with colored lights blinking and a sense of despair. The interior, however, tells a different story with colorful and well maintained decor. The big deal breakfast is a big deal. Come hungry.

The food is always good, plentiful and efficiently served. The hash-browns and grits are always fresh and cooked perfectly. The homemade rolls are fluffy and delicious and the pancakes are generously sized and thick. And, on the very rare occasion that there has been a mix up on an order, things were rectified quickly and with no hassles. So you should understand that we were devastated by the news that the Frank's location closest to our house was totally destroyed by fire recently. That would be the 1915 Mangum Rd. location. It is my understanding from employees at neighboring businesses that they plan to reopen, at least temporarily, in a vacant building on a lot that is adjacent to the burned building. I have not checked that for any factual accuracy, so take it with a grain of salt, as it were. Meanwhile, we will drive the extra miles to one of the other locations.

We were on a tight schedule during our time in Houston. We were able to get up early enough to get breakfast together at The Breakfast Klub. There is limited parking, but it is doable depending on what time you arrive. Luckily, we came right before opening and snagged a spot across the street from the restaurant. The line was already long, but it moved fairly quickly. Everyone has to order first at the cash register before they can be seated. We ordered two plates of the Wings & Waffle, which consists of a golden Belgian waffle surrounded by six wing pieces and topped with powdered sugar and one fresh strawberry. We also ordered a Honey Cake, which is a super buttery pancake and Karmel Makkhiato. The food came out a lot faster than I expected for how busy it is. It was definitely quite a large breakfast for the two of us. Neither of us were able to finish everything we ordered and had to take our leftovers to go. It was all delicious though. The waffle, wings, and hot cake. We were even given a sample of their grits to try! Personally, I am not the biggest fan of grits, but it was nice to finally try it! My orange juice connoisseur BFF gave it the thumbs-up of approval. We asked for a glass of ice, and it elevated the drink. Steak and Green Eggs (BFF) - Wow. Those green eggs--what's in them? What is in them? Delicious with buttered toast. The potatoes were perfectly crisp, and that steak? Seasoned so well, super fragrant, and moist. For a breakfast steak, it's great. We were ultimately shown to a table directly in front of the kitchen. As we sat there, I gradually began to notice some troubling things. Another Asian group was seated at a table next to one of the kitchen entrances. Later, when they finished their meal and left, another Asian family was seated at the same table. In addition, a Black family was seated next to another kitchen exit. A woman in that group asked to be moved to a different table. The food itself was very good, and the server who took care of us was pleasant and kind. My concern was specifically with the way the host assigned tables. Seeing this seating pattern repeated even though other tables were available made me strongly feel that race was influencing the seating decisions. I found the experience very upsetting. Of course, it is up to the restaurant to decide how it will assign tables in the future. I would be glad if this experience prompted the restaurant to recognize the issue and make changes. On the other hand, if nothing changes, I will consider this to be part of the restaurant's character. I am leaving this review to share what I personally saw and experienced.
