First time here, tried the crying tiger and pad thai. What stood out to me was the interior, prob one of the most aesthetic thai restaurant in this area. The interior was modern and even the bathroom was beautiful. The crying tiger was very tasty, good tenderness but the portion was too small based off the $40 price tag. Pad thai wasnt over oily, it was good as well. Servers were attentive and nice. On the more expensive side but would come back

It's my first time here and came here for my early birthday celebration and i like the ambiance of the place and sharing for three people is more than enough, a little overpriced for chicken satay but still tasted great. I love the taste of the yellow curry and the pad krapao as well. Service was really quick too !!

Great place if you're looking for an ambient lighting and aesthetic dining. Like some of the other comments mentioned they only have few vegetarian meal options like the curries. But their noodles dishes do have oyster/fish sauce, which is pescatarian friendly but not vegetarian (if you are a strict vegetarian) friendly. However, the server did explain this to us after asking for my party's dietary restrictions. So I am happy that they did voice this before we ordered, unlike some other restaurants that just say they can't guarantee everything is vegetarian. Other than that, I loved their cocktail options and the roti + curry was flavorful! Would probably not come back again due to my own dietary restrictions but great for those who aren't strict vegetarians.

We ordered the Pad See Iw with tofu, and it was delicious! I especially appreciated that there was a generous amount of Chinese broccoli that you could actually see and taste. Some places serve mostly noodles with barely any vegetables but that wasn't the case here. The tofu had soaked up the sauce nicely, making every bite flavorful. I'm a big fan of Tom Yum Soup and this one didn't disappoint. It had just the right balance of tangy and spicy without being overpowering. I especially the loved this oyster mushrooms! We also tried the yellow curry with shrimp and a side of jasmine rice. The curry was flavorful, and paired perfectly with the rice. My only suggestion would be to add another shrimp or two as a portion was a little light. Otherwise, it was a very enjoyable dish. We'll definitely be back! I'm already looking forward to trying the fried rice and another curry dish. We may even dine inside next time as the dining area look cute, cozy, and peaceful. It seems like a nice spot to sit back and relax and enjoy a good meal.

Overall, this place was okay. Love the location in Orchard Hills but this plaza definitely needs more stores. It's almost like a ghost town past the Pavilions store. When walking inside, this place was beautiful. Love the dark themed vibe and tall ceilings. I have to say, it's pleasantly clean and the service was very good. We ordered the thai sausages and papaya salad for appetizers. The sausages were really flavorful. I just wished that they were cut better and provided more garlic. The salad had great seasoning, though I don't get the presentation with the wooden stick inside. Also, I never had it with raw green beans, which gave off a weird raw veggie flavor. For mains, we ordered the panang curry with chicken and the pad thai with shrimp. The curry was nice and aromatic, flavor was great. However, nothing mind-blowing. The pad thai however, was probably one of the better ones I've had. The noodles were very chewy and the flavor was fantastic. The shrimp was nice and plump, absolutely nailed. We ended with the mango sticky rice, which was delicious. I would want to give this a higher rating but my issue was the price and this is on top of the 4% surcharge they include. It's probably one of the higher price spots in the area for humble thai food. Also, it's a little weird that they have to act like a fine dining spot. There was absolutely nothing different other than serving the food in fancy bowls and plates. I do like the no children for dinner policy... probably should post it on the door though rather than just the website haha.

The best Thai food we have had, it was so worth the hour drive! It will now become our go to spot! The shrimp rolls were absolutely delicious , and the pad Thai amazing !

Nara Thai is an upscale Thai restaurant in Irvine that opened in 2023. It has an elevated and high-end atmosphere with an intimate ambiance. When we walked in I really liked the dim lighting and the candles everywhere. We made reservations online ahead of time and were seated immediately for a party of two. THAI ESARN SAUSAGE ($14) - this was flavorful and I loved the char. I also liked the varying accompaniments like garlic, lime, and chilis for added flavors. This was my favorite dish. 4.5/5 THAI STYLE FRIED CHICKEN ($17) - this was crispy and I liked the sweet chili dipping sauce. There were only four pieces and I wish there were more given the price. 4/5 CRYING TIGER FILET ($40) - we ordered medium rare and it was slightly undercooked and chewy but the flavor was decent. It was also super spicy (for us) and addicting because of the nam jim jaew. I thought it was the star of the dish but I would've preferred they put the sauce on the side instead of drizzling it all over the meat so I could control the spiciness. 3.5/5 DRUNKEN NOODLES ($23) - we ordered it mild and were told it was a 2-3/10 on the spice level. There was a decent spice and I thought this dish was just okay. 3.5/5 For cocktails the yuzu offering ($18) and butterfly bloom ($18) were light and refreshing. The green aura ($16) was one-dimensional and just okay. I noticed that some of their cocktails were either soju-based (no hard liquor) or were non-alcoholic (although not explicitly mentioned) so beware when you read the ingredients. We also ordered the thai iced tea ($8) which was more tea-forward than others I've had. It was not as sweet and had hints of sweetened condensed milk instead of the typical heavy cream. It was one of the better ones I've had at restaurants. We finished with Nara's mango sticky rice ($17) which looked cool and was decent. Some of the dishes were flavorful while some were more disappointing. The cocktails were just okay. The prices were on the high side and some of the portions didn't match those prices. The interior was really cool and is a great spot for a nice night out.

Gingey C.

Delicious flavorful food and great presentation Plenty of seafood and vegetarian options

Pros: the ambiance gives an intimate vibe with dim lights and there were a lot of empty tables so the wait time was pleasantly short. Cons: service was slow but it could be because there was only one server working. Having more servers would be a big help for the one server working. After we were seated, we were told we would be charged $25 for bringing cupcakes into the restaurant. Yes, we were celebrating 2 birthdays, however, we were NOT planning on eating cupcakes inside this restaurant. These cupcakes were for later OUTSIDE of this restaurant. We just didn't want to leave the cupcakes in our car. I don't understand why we would be charged $25 just for bringing cupcakes inside. The server said we brought in a cake but it was not even a cake, it was 12 small cupcakes in a box. There's no sign in the restaurant and no indication on the menu or website that there will a $25 charge for bringing cakes or cupcakes inside. We ended up leaving our cupcakes in the car to avoid getting charged $25. The food was okay. There are better Thai restaurants such as Siam Station, Manao, Hanam. Moving forward in my review. I have included a picture of the receipt as well as some of the dishes we ordered. I also labeled the prices of these dishes corresponding with the receipt. One of the dishes we were surprised about was the Yellow Curry with Beef as it turned out to be $41.00. When the server asked us about the protein we wanted with the yellow curry, we asked the waiter what are the options as we do not know what the choices are. We were told there is chicken, beef, tofu, and other protein options. For context, the reason we did not know what the protein options were was because the menu for protein options is a little hard to read and we simply did not see it. The lighting was dim and the print for protein options was in a small yellow font on yellow-ish paper. We only found out about the price for beef protein with yellow curry once the bill came (as shown in the picture of the receipt). I would recommend using a different color and a bigger font on the menu for listing protein options. The pot stickers is 4 pieces for $17 and the mango avocado salad was $24. Nothing stood out with these two dishes. I don't really eat salad but I will say the salad was my favorite dish out of everything we ordered. For those who are unaware, a party of 5 or more will have a 20% large party fee. There is also a 4% service gratuity added to all checks. We were not informed about it by the staff. It's stated on their menu but if you did not happen to read it then you wouldn't know about it. It's something I'd like to point out because where it is printed can be easily missed. I think there is also a sign in the front but again it can be easily missed or overlooked. I'd recommend the staff to verbally disclose it to customers before seating them. For customers: I would recommend reading other reviews because there seems to be a pattern

Aileen H.

Amazing food! I got the namtok filet mignon and I loved it! Great flavors that comes with either a jasmine rice or sticky rice with coconut flavor. The service is great and super friendly. Nice ambience as well.

Kenny D.

The Tom Yum soup was absolutely delicious! The broth had the perfect balance of spicy, sour, and savory flavors without being overwhelming. You could really taste the lemongrass, lime, and herbs, and everything tasted fresh. It was comforting but still packed with flavor. Definitely one of the better Tom Yum soups I've had, and I'd order it again!

Kyan B.

Nara Thai does an amazing job with both flavor and presentation. The Som Tum was beautifully plated, colorful, and fresh, making it just as enjoyable to look at as it was to eat. The Lobster Red Curry was another standout, presented elegantly with generous pieces of lobster and a rich, vibrant curry that made the dish feel truly special. Overall, a beautiful dining experience where the presentation complements the food perfectly.

Will W.

The food was absolutely delicious! Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Highly recommend this restaurant!

It's rare that I write reviews unless I felt that the restaurant truly deserved better than the reviews suggest. The service and food was excellent. The Pad Kee Mao was cooked perfectly and was very reminiscent of the travels I had to Thailand. While some of the prices are slightly higher than fast Thai, you'll quickly understand why through the taste, plating, dishware and ambience. I wouldn't trust the reviews comparing the prices to hole in the wall fast food joints. If you want to try genuine Thai food with an upscale feel, be sure not to miss this gem. read more

The place seemed inviting and there was literally a few patrons inside. I was not greeted inside and took a seat regardless. A Caucasian man said hello, perhaps he was the owner. I ordered chicken wings, crab fried rice and ice tea. The tea came out quickly and the food took a while to come out. Not sure why, they were not busy. I specifically asked to not add onions or scallions in the fried rice. Well, they did anyway but I was not going to make a fuss. I picked out what I did not want to eat and practically left 3/4 of the dish uneaten. The fried chicken wings did not taste appealing. They seemed oversized and unnatural. The tea tasted good. The decor was nice and clean. The chair and table was comfortable. Overall, it was just ok. Staff needs to be more pleasant and orders need to be correct. read more

Beautiful, serene decor. Nice atmospheric music. Gorgeous food and drink presentation. It's a more upscale Thai restaurant with delicious food and drinks. Some items are more traditional and some are more fancy. All contain quality ingredients and you can tell they take care in the preparation process. I love the "zen" neutral-colors and natural decor. Beware. They cook food dropped on the floor. I saw a cook (female with a black baseball cap) drop some lettuce/cabbage on the floor while transferring to her steel prep/mixing bowl from an under counter fridge, and instead of leaving them there for cleanup later, she picked them up and put them into her bowl, then put them into a pot that was already on the burner. She didn't change her glove either, which I assume she hadn't changed all day either. The manager and the other cook refused to acknowledge what I saw with my own eyes, and kept insisting she had thrown it away into the trash bin, which is what she may have told them. I was previously a restaurant manager and take food safety and cross contamination seriously, but they didn't seem open to addressing it. In response to the owner's feedback: please share the video then. I know what I saw with my own eyes. I bet the video doesn't show her changing her gloves after picking up the food off the ground. Cmon, I wasn't born yesterday. read more

Ambience, and decor is on point here! neutral tone design with a lot of nature concepts such as Bamboo, and wooden table. I see why they have a more strict dress code here because it is more on the trendy side. It is def a great place for a date night. drinks: wish they have more cocktail options other than sake cocktails, maybe add some Lychee martini, or margarita? House wine they gave me have a generous pour! Food surprisingly was very good, I had my doubts about this place due to the reviews I read online. But let me tell you, everything we ordered was great. Papaya salad was sour, crisp, spicy and I can probably eat the entire order myself, presentation was on point, too! Pad Thai was good, it is on the sweeter side and only complain was the chicken breast was dry. But I would order again. Beef Pannang sauce was sooo good, but the beef was kind of hard to chew. the star of the dish was the sauce. mango sticky rice was amazing Portion is on the small side but I was still full after what we ordered. would def come back here again! it would be cool they offer some bomb happy hour deal! read more

Food is fantastic! This is the best Thai food I have experienced in OC. Service has been awesome every time. I love the decor and this place is REALLY clean. I don't know a lot about how much it cost to set up a restaurant in Irvine but I can feel the love and passion the owner put into this place. Ingredients are super fresh and high quality I hate reading the other one star (very ignorant reviews) complaining about price, stroller space and pets etc.... Don't miss this place. A fine neighborhood restaurant. A treasure of Thai culinary excellence and modern classy serving bowls, plates & trays of excellently prepared food. We started with four Thai Chicken Satay skewers with peanut sauce - excellent. Followed with Red Chicken curry - delicious tasting sauce at medium spice. My wife was disappointed curry did not have any fresh vegetables in it other than spicy chiles. The brown rice served with the curry the best I have ever had - light, fluffy, not sticky and flavorful. Ended up with mango sticky rice - it's a must to finish up with after some spicy food. It was excellent with a very appealing presentation. Service great but wife disappointed her choice of lettuce wraps not available because they had no lettuce in house. Seemingly low on fresh vegetables in the restaurant. read more

I'm a restaurant business owner as well so i understand the stress the owner and staff endures when running / working in service jobs- however, they do have a lot to improve on. Owner and staff should look at these reviews write them down and find ways to improve. If a majority of us are saying the same thing then there is a problem. First be clear is brunch family style or not?! When we got the food it's seemed like it was not family nor enough for one person... We came in with 4 people for lunch/ brunch and it was def disappointing- there are so many elevated Asian cuisine restaurants in this area down at the spectrum and all over OC- people know typically what portions are small and what are not. In addition, I definitely think that there is a lot of room to improve, and all the feedback should be written down and talked among stuff to figure out proper training and solutions. I really want this location to succeed as I do love the decor the aesthetic, the overall look in vibe. I'd love to come back and give the dinner menu a try but given all these reviews I may not. read more

I was excited to take my family here for dinner after a school event. We were told by the host that children were not welcome after 6:30. As we started making our way to the parking lot, one of the servers politely informed us that they would make an exception and ended up seating us. However, halfway into our meal, the owner of the restaurant walked to our table, yelled at one of the servers and asked why there were children still dining. My 8 year old heard the entire conversation and asked why he wasn't allowed to eat there. It was absolutely disgusting behavior from a grown man who should've known better than to make children feel guilty and unwelcome. We'll be sure to spread the news that children and families are not welcome. Don't put an adults only restaurant in a plaza surrounded by homes and schools. read more

Our group, 4 adults and 4 behaved children, were seated before 630pm. We ordered plenty of food, but mid meal, the owner stood behind our table and started to scorn his staff for sitting 4 kids at a table. How do I know this? He stood behind our kids, pointed fingers at them and was yelling...I eventually caught on as our children were looking up at the immature owner who was yelling. When confronted on his behavior, he showed no remorse and said having kids at his restaurant was not part of his business plan. I was excited about this new restaurant in our community but will definitely spread the word...this owner is unprofessional, argumentative, and has no common sense to maybe step away from children if he plans to yell at his staff for seating them. By reading other similar reviews and the owner's response, he clearly doesn't want business. Guess he forgets his restaurant is central to school aged families that like to go out to eat in their community. read more

For the longest time this was our the most fabulous and favorite place to go for Thai food. Your service staff are absolutely excellent and we love your ambiance. However, Unfortunately their management has been changed recently . We were very disappointed to find out that their menu has been reduced to almost nothing since the change. All of our favorite Thai dishes were taken out and the menu is very very limited. But why? Your menu was so unique and delicious and very popular. Why change ? Please bring your old menu back. We love to keep coming to your place and enjoy the food. read more

The little gem caesar was the only dish that disappointed. It was fresh, but quite bland. The truffle french fries seemed so simple but so good. Normally I don't like sweet pickles but the honey mustard pickles were a perfect compliment to the beefy wagyu. The crispy fried chicken was really well done. Reminded me of Korean fried chicken but slightly more refined. The citrus cured hamachi were perfect little bites. The spicy tuna roll was pretty good. A waiter walked up to us and asked us what was going on (we were standing there for around 7 - 10 minutes) and we told him we had a reservation for the speakeasy. My father in law brought me and my husband to try Nara after he had dined there 4 times since they've opened. First was the Pad Thai. The noodles were perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of chewiness, and the sauce was a harmonious blend of sweet, savory, and tangy flavors. The dish was topped with generous portions of plump, juicy shrimp, which added a delightful protein boost to the already scrumptious dish. Second was the pad see ew. The quality of the beef was truly outstanding. Very tender, juicy, and flavorful. The noodles had a slightly charred smokiness that added a beautiful depth of flavor to the dish. The staff were incredibly attentive and always went the extra mile to ensure that we had everything we needed. Whether it was refilling our drinks, checking in on our meals, or answering our questions about the menu, the staff were always friendly, helpful, and professional. I also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Michael, and I have to say that he was one of the most hospitable restaurant owners I've ever encountered. He took the time to chat with us and made us feel like valued guests. His passion for Thai cuisine was evident in every aspect of the restaurant, from the quality of the food to the attention to detail in the decor. Speaking of decor, I have to say that the atmosphere of Nara Thai Kitchen was truly special. The restaurant had a mix of Thai art with modern pieces. But what really impressed me was the incorporation of LA vibes into the decor. The music was great and mixed with the decor, it gave the restaurant a unique and contemporary twist that you don't often see in Irvine. All in all, my experience at Nara Thai Kitchen was absolutely fantastic. The combination of delicious food, attentive service, and beautiful atmosphere made for an unforgettable dining experience. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for exceptional Thai cuisine in Irvine. read more

We visited Nara Thai around 2:40 PM and were informed that the kitchen would close in five minutes. Thankfully, we had already decided on our order--Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles) and Panang Curry, both with tofu. While a couple of patrons who arrived shortly after us were turned away, the staff was courteous and accommodating, ensuring our order was taken promptly without making us feel rushed. The service was efficient, and our food arrived in good time despite the kitchen's closing schedule. The ambiance at Nara Thai is delightful, offering a serene, Boho-chic vibe that enhances the dining experience. The food was exceptional--light, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Even the mild spice level had a noticeable kick, which we appreciated. Both dishes were a treat for the palate. However, one aspect left us puzzled was an additional 3% charge for inflation costs. While we understand the challenges of rising expenses, it seemed unusual given the premium pricing of the menu. For comparison, we've enjoyed equally delicious Thai cuisine at similar or even better quality establishments in Southern California, often at half the price. Overall, Nara Thai offers a fantastic culinary experience with an elevated atmosphere, but the additional charges might warrant reconsideration for those mindful of value. read more

From the moment we stepped into this new Thai restaurant, our experience was nothing short of amazing. The menu, a delightful journey through authentic Thai flavors, was crafted with a high level of culinary expertise and of course staff was very helpful and friendly with us. We commenced our feast with the Tom Yum soup, a tantalizing blend of shrimps and mushrooms. Each spoonful was an exploration of exotic flavors, creating a truly interesting and enjoyable experience. The highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the Pad Thai with crab meat. I must confess, it was the best rendition of Pad Thai we have ever savored. The crab meat added a luxurious twist to this classic dish, leaving us thoroughly impressed. Our culinary adventure didn't stop there. We ventured into the realm of Thai street food with a dish featuring filet mignon. This dish was a symphony of very tender meat, complemented by an assortment of aromatic herbs, making for an incredible taste sensation. In conclusion, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone seeking an extraordinary Thai dining experience. Its flavors are as memorable and exquisite as the finest chocolates(like U4Uchocolates), leaving you with a lasting impression of culinary brilliance. Highly recommended! read more

Nara Thai Kitchen is truly a hidden gem in Irvine! From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels elegant, warm, and inviting -- a perfect blend of modern fine dining with authentic Thai charm. Every dish is crafted with care and presented beautifully, and you can taste the difference in the quality of the ingredients. The flavors are bold, balanced, and undeniably authentic. The service is just as impressive -- attentive, professional, and always making sure the dining experience feels special. This is not your typical street-side Thai food; it's a refined, elevated experience that showcases the richness of Thai cuisine in a fine dining setting. I've noticed some negative reviews, but it's clear they come from people who don't fully understand what fine dining is about. Nara Thai Kitchen is committed to quality, authenticity, and presentation -- things that naturally come with higher standards. If you're looking for "cheap and fast," there are plenty of other options, but if you want a true Thai culinary experience, this is the place. Highly recommended -- Nara Thai Kitchen is easily one of the best Thai restaurants in Southern California and a must-visit for anyone who appreciates authentic flavors at their finest! read more

This Thai restaurant is a real gem. The staff is incredibly welcoming and friendly, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in. They strike just the right balance of being attentive without hovering, so you can just relax and enjoy your meal. It's clear they genuinely care about their customers and want you to have a great experience. The decor here is on another level. I've been to a lot of Thai places, but the attention to detail in this one is unmatched. The atmosphere feels like a little slice of Thailand, with beautiful art, intricate woodwork, and a warm, inviting vibe that makes you want to settle in and stay awhile. You can tell a lot of thought went into every part of the design, making it much more than just a place to grab a bite. And let's talk about the food - it's not only tasty but also a treat for the eyes. Every dish is plated beautifully, with colors and garnishes that make it almost too pretty to eat. You can see the care and artistry in every meal, and it just adds to the whole experience. From flavorful curries to fresh noodle dishes, this place doesn't just serve food; it serves up an experience. If you're looking for something special, this spot is definitely worth a visit. read more

Nara is a truly phenomenal Thai restaurant, a hidden gem that offers a tranquil evening escape. Don't get me wrong, it's not that children aren't welcome, but rather, it's an environment best suited for those who appreciate a refined dining setting. My wife and I often enjoy our date nights here, and on occasion, our well-mannered children join us. Irvine certainly needs more restaurants like Nara that maintain such a perfect balance of quality food, fantastic ambiance, and exquisite table settings. Interestingly, I've begun looking at one-star reviews where kids are mentioned as a guide to find establishments that prioritize a serene dining experience. Here's an update on my recent experience at Nara Thai Kitchen. While the Panang Curry continues to impress, the Cashew Nut Chicken disappointed me. On previous visits, the dish stood out for its exceptional flavor. The Sweet Chili Jam coated the meat and veggies in a dry, sweetish-spicy layer without any visible sauce, allowing the chicken to retain its crunch with a slight caramelization. At the same time, the carrots, onions, and peppers maintained their crispiness, all infused with the delightful flavor of the sweet chili jam. However, I noticed a significant difference when I ordered the same dish for takeout. It lacked the same texture and flavor profile that I had enjoyed at the restaurant. There was no discernible sauce even when I had taken the leftover cashew nut chicken home. Despite the restaurant's offer to remake the dish, I'm now hesitant because I'm unsure if it will live up to my previous experience or be entirely different. It's best to dine in to fully appreciate the robust flavors of the cashew nut chicken dish. Fortunately, the Panang Curry remains consistently excellent. read more

We came here last Saturday to celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary, and Nara Thai Kitchen made it absolutely unforgettable! The first thing we noticed when we walked in was how incredibly nice, clean, and beautifully styled the place is. I absolutely loved the vibe and ambiance--it has the perfect atmosphere for a special night out. From start to finish, the presentation of the food was just stunning. Every single dish looked like a work of art--honestly, they were so pretty it was hard to decide if we should take photos or just dive right in! But as gorgeous as everything looked, the taste was even better. We ordered the crab fried rice, yellow chicken curry, pepper steak, and the mango sticky rice. Everything was incredibly delicious and packed with flavor. I especially loved the yellow chicken curry; the spices were absolutely perfect! To top it all off, our server, Sophia, was the absolute best! She was attentive, sweet, and made our anniversary feel incredibly special. Phenomenal food, beautiful presentation, and top-tier service. We will definitely be back! read more

I recently visited Nara Thai Kitchen to celebrate my friend's birthday, and I must say, the entire experience was exceptional! The food was not only delicious but also beautifully presented, showing great attention to detail. Each dish was a feast for both the eyes and the palate. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is stunning, with a tropical yet elegant vibe that radiates positive energy. From the interior décor to the utensils and plates, everything felt thoughtfully curated to create a beautiful dining experience. What really stood out was the amazing customer service. Both Nara, the owner, and her mom made sure we felt welcomed and taken care of throughout the day. Nara herself came over to greet us and made the experience so personal by chatting with us and ensuring everything was perfect. She was incredibly attentive and warm, adding a lovely touch to the evening. If you're looking for a place with fantastic food, a gorgeous setting, and outstanding hospitality, Nara Thai Kitchen is it! Highly recommend! read more

When you are an inexperienced Owner (who is unfortunately also the Manager), you're stuck with the unpleasant task of responding to Yelp reviews. Admitting there's a lot of room for improvement is better than being defensive. I would suggest a Public Relations Manager, but if you could afford one, you wouldn't spend your time writing an angry, lengthy reply justifying why a customer is wrong. Maybe, just maybe, other customers leave their dining experience feeling the same way? Of course my review is one-sided. It's the opinion of one person, me. If ALL your customers felt they had a great dining experience, you'd have a 5-Star review. Hovering at 3.8, almost ready change review colors isn't having it all figured out. Even though it's hard to read a bad review, a secure business owner/manager will take it on the chin and improve where ever they can. You could make some changes and invite the critic back. But THAT would take some moxie. read more

This Thai restaurant is an absolute gem and one of the best spots for a romantic date or a fine dining experience. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a warm and elegant ambiance that sets the tone for a special evening. The presentation of the dishes is truly a work of art. Every plate is crafted with such attention to detail that it's almost too beautiful to eat--almost. Once you take a bite, the flavors are simply incredible. The food is authentic, rich, and perfectly balanced, making every dish a delightful experience. Whether you're a fan of classics like Pad Thai or want to explore unique, chef-inspired dishes, you won't be disappointed. The decline in the quality of food and service at this establishment is concerning. While it was once a beloved dining destination, recent experiences have raised significant red flags that should not be ignored. The unprofessional and abusive behavior exhibited by the management towards staff members is unacceptable and creates an uncomfortable atmosphere for patrons. Additionally, the noticeable deterioration in the taste and preparation of the dishes suggests a lack of care and attention to detail, which is disheartening. Furthermore, the alleged unethical practices regarding gratuities and surcharges raise questions about the establishment's integrity and respect for its employees and customers. It is crucial to approach this situation with caution and carefully consider whether supporting such an establishment aligns with one's values and expectations for a dining experience. read more

Nara Thai made me impress with its exceptional food, warm atmosphere, and attentive service. The short-rib curry was the highlight of our meal--perfectly tender meat in a rich, flavorful curry that was simply unforgettable. The prawns fried rice was just the right balance of seasoning and generous portions of juicy prawns. The ambiance is romantic and inviting, making it an ideal spot for date nights or special occasions. The dim lighting, elegant decor, and soothing vibe create an atmosphere that's both intimate and relaxing. Their cocktails deserve special mention--crafted with precision, they're not only visually stunning but also packed with bold, refreshing flavors that pair beautifully with the food. The service was exceptional. The staff is friendly, attentive, and ensures that every detail is taken care of. Highly recommended! read more

I have dined at Nara Thai Kitchen many times and every time I had an excellent dining experience. Their superb service stands out, with the staff warmly welcoming you as you enter the establisment and then providing a high level of attention throughout your dining experience. The ambiance is delightful, as the space is a perfect blend of Thai cultural elements and modern elegance. Further, each dish is a symphony of authentic Thai flavors, skillfully prepared and beautifully presented with an array of colorful ingredients. It is evident that the chefs and owners take great pride in sourcing the finest and freshest ingredients, resulting in dishes of exceptional quality. Overall, this Thai gen consistently proves to be haven for food enthusiasts seeking a memorable, relaxing dining experience. read more

I was really disappointed with my experience at Nara Thai Kitchen. While the food was decent, the surprise fees on the bill left a bad taste. First, they tacked on a 3% surcharge with no clear explanation. When we asked about it, the waitress claimed it was listed on the menu--but when she showed us, it was buried in tiny, unreadable print at the bottom. That felt intentionally deceptive. Then, they automatically added a 20% large party fee--despite the fact that our group was just two adults and three kids. That hardly qualifies as a "large party." It's frustrating when restaurants impose hidden fees without transparency. Had we been informed upfront, we could have made an informed decision about dining here. Instead, it felt like an unfair cash grab. Definitely won't be returning. read more

Absolute Gem! Best Thai Food I've Had in Ages! I'm not exaggerating when I say this might be the best Thai food I've ever had. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with the perfect balance of cozy and modern. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure everything was perfect. Now, let's talk about the food--because WOW. I ordered pad Krapao and it was bursting with flavor. The spices were perfectly balanced, the ingredients were fresh, and the portion was generous without being overwhelming. I also tried Moo Ping, and it was just as incredible. You can really tell they put love into every dish. If you're a fan of authentic Thai cuisine (or just amazing food in general), this place is a must-visit. I'll definitely be coming back! read more

Nara Thai is such a beautiful and luxurious restaurant. The elegant décor, warm lighting, and stylish atmosphere make the dining experience feel very special. I ordered the Thai-style tom yum mushroom, and it was absolutely delicious. The soup had the perfect balance of spicy, sour, and aromatic Thai flavors. The mushrooms were fresh, tender, and absorbed the rich tom yum broth beautifully. Every spoonful was flavorful, comforting, and satisfying. The presentation was also lovely, and the service matched the upscale atmosphere. The staff were polite, attentive, and welcoming throughout the meal. Nara Thai is a wonderful place for anyone looking for authentic Thai food in a luxurious setting. I would definitely come back and order the tom yum mushroom again. read more

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of dining at Nara Thai, nestled in Northpark at the Pavilions Shopping Center on Portola. Right from the start, the decor and ambiance struck a delightful chord with me. Surprisingly, for a Friday evening, it seemed quieter than expected. Our selection for the night included Penang curry, roti, and a vegetable Pad Thai. To be sincere, the flavors thoroughly impressed me, imbued with authentic Thai essences and a rich umami taste that lingers on the palate. The only slight drawback was the roti, which I found to be a tad too oily for my liking. Nonetheless, this does little to diminish my eagerness to return. I highly recommend this hidden gem to anyone in search of genuine Thai cuisine. The service was impeccable . read more

So, I usually don't do the whole review thing, but this place is just so bad. Even though I don't have kids, their rules seemed a bit much. Still, since it's close by my house , I thought,l to give it a try. Turns out, it's not worth the hype. Pricey food that's just meh, an okay vibe that doesn't match the wallet hit, and service and manager was so rude it had us waited for 40min and gave our table to someone else because he wanted to seat us next to the bathrooms table. Seriously, the portions were like Thai food tapas - smaller than usual. Gave it a shot, but won't be making a repeat visit. The owner says it's not your average Thai joint, and he's right - it's way below average. read more

I had notified the other members of my party that there were discount gift cards available at Costco, but the Little Sister website did not dictate prices so we were not sure if we should have bought them. For a party of 3-4 people, I would say $100 of store credit would be used up in one visit. It was slow food. I'd been to their Tustin location previously but my husband had not tried them before. Once seated, we looked at the menu and ordered the Leo beer ($7) and Mango Sticky Rice Beer ($10). We ordered the Crying Tiger ($24) and the Khao Soi with braised beef ($22). The food is served family style and will come out whenever it is ready so there is a chance that items will come out at different times. We were okay with that as we were sharing anyway. The drinks came out first. The Leo beer is your typical lager. The Mango Sticky Rice Beer does have fruity notes but is still rather dry. It was interesting but I would probably not order it again. The food arrived at the same time for us anyway so we were able to eat as soon as the food hit the table. It was as good as I remembered. The Crying Tiger's steak dipped into the sauce was delicious. Some menu items are being discontinued, my rice came out cold, and a few of the decor choices seemed a little tacky. Meizhou is a great option for special occasions because the interior feels upscale and is one of the nicer-looking restaurants in the area. Today, we ordered the Sichuan Cold Noodles, Vegetable Fried Rice, Angus Beef Filet With Black Pepper, Chicken Pot-Stickers (six pieces), Dongpo Pork Belly With Preserved Vegetable, Garlic Stir-Fried A Choy and white rice. Unfortunately, the white rice came out cold, almost as if it had been sitting in the refrigerator. Thankfully, our server replaced it immediately, but it was still an odd experience. My favorite dish here is the Angus Beef Filet With Black Pepper. The meat is high quality, and the flavors are perfectly balanced. Meizhou is also well-known for its duck. We didn't order it today, but the half duck is always another great option! The meat practically melts in your mouth, which is one of my favorite things about it. Service has always been hit or miss here, so I think your experience really depends on which server you get. I love the food overall, although some dishes feel overpriced for the portion sizes. That said, the quality of the food is generally great. One last thing I noticed today, which isn't a huge deal but stood out to me, was a cup in the women's restroom containing a hairbrush, toothpaste and a toothbrush for customers to use. For a restaurant with such an upscale atmosphere, this felt a little out of place and tacky. Overall, Meizhou is definitely worth trying if you love duck or are looking for a nicer restaurant for a special occasion. I still enjoy the food here, but I'm curious to see how things change under the new ownership!

My mother, who was raised with her own Japanese food sensibility, loved every single dish, which is rare. The saba battera (mackerel sushi) I will be thinking about for a long time to come. The pickled mackerel melts in your mouth. It was thicker than the rice bed, which was dipped generously in soy sauce. It was topped with nori paste, something I haven't had in years. We started our meal with kanjuku (fully ripe) tomato salad and kimpira (simmered lotus root). The tomato salad was sliced thinly, arranged beautifully on the plate like sashimi, and topped with dressing, red onions, and finely shredded shiso (perilla leaf). The lotus root was also sliced thinly and simmered in sweetened soy sauce with tiny bits of hot pepper. We loved both dishes. We also had buta kakuni (pork belly), tori tsukune (chicken patty), and ika shumai (squid dumpling). The pork belly was very tender, and the fat just melted in your mouth. It came with some slightly sweet carrot, hard boiled egg, baby bok choy, and a little wasabi. It also came in a thickened light-colored broth, which surprised me because Japanese food often in a sauce darkened with soy sauce. The ika shumai also came in a light-colored thickened sauce that seemed to have a different flavor. I was surprised that the ika shumai was a single cake of squid (that somehow didn't taste strongly squidlike) with the thinnest artfully shredded wrapper. The tori tsukune came with a delicious dark sauce, garnished with benishoga (bright red ginger) and green onions. Only I tried dipping it in the egg yolk, which gave the ground chicken a delightful creaminess. I was pleasantly surprised that Iyasaka offered rooibos herbal tea, as most Japanese restaurants have only green tea and don't even have mugicha (barley tea common in Japanese homes). Most of the desserts had either caffeine or alcohol in them. They sounded delicious, but we were so full we couldn't even consider them. Our server was attentive and patient with our many questions. She seemed happy that we enjoyed this journey of authentic Japanese cuisine made new. The space was dark with little fabric to absorb sound, as can be expected in a Japanese izakaya. At first my mother was bothered by the noise from another party, but as we got into the food and as the space filled we noticed the noise less. We got there just as Iyasaka opened, so it felt warm as the air conditioner kicked in. That too bought back fond memories of Japan. I wasn't sure how my mom would enjoy an izakaya setting and menu, but Iyasaka was a bigger hit than any other Japanese restaurant I took her to this year. We will definitely be back!

I like that you can order some dishes family style as it brings that Italian family restaurant vibe. We got a pepperoni pizza, the soppressata pizza, the rigatoni bolognese, the bucatini amatriciana, and the whole fish to share amongst 6 of us. I didn't love the pepperoni pizza with the sweet/savory combo but some people love that. I much preferred the soppressata pizza which had tangy, spicy, and meaty flavors all combined with creamy cheese and a just sturdy enough crust. I didn't love the whole fish as the flavor lacked a little but it was a nice break from all the carbs. The bucatini amatriciana is classic in its flavors and a crowd favorite. Perfectly al dente pasta and hearty meaty flavors. The rigatoni was different in terms of contrast in flavors with the brightness and tartness of the lemon contrasting the creaminess of the ricotta. If the pasta had been cooked just a minute longer. All in all, other than the location, it was a fun meal and that's all you can ask for.
