Several months before my wedding, I personally came to the restaurant to make sure I would be able to reserve a table for 12 in the main dining room near the fireplace. I spoke with a dark-haired woman who told me that was totally fine, and she made the reservation for me. I knew that others would be at smaller tables in the room, and I was fine with that. La Porta is a special place where my fiancé and I have spent many lovely dinners together. It was really important to me that our intimate reception be somewhere I already loved, in a space that felt like me. I love the plaster walls, the wood features, the low light, the fireplace--that space is really special to me. La Porta's food is good, but Italian isn't my favorite cuisine. I chose to have my reception at La Porta for this space specifically. I would never want to have my wedding reception on a patio with plastic covering, which is why I came in months ahead of time and made those arrangements so carefully. When we arrived on Saturday, my party was made to sit on the patio. I spoke with our main waiter, a man I had seen at the restaurant before, about what had happened. He was dismissive and said, "Well, it wasn't in the notes. There's nothing I can do about it now." He didn't even say I'm sorry, and he acted annoyed. Angry isn't really the right word for how I felt. I was hurt. This was my wedding, one of the most important days of my life, and I wasn't able to have the reception in the space I had specifically booked and planned for. Mistakes happen, and I understand that. The mistake itself was upsetting, but what hurt even more was how the waiter handled it. On a day when I should have felt celebrated and cared for, I instead felt like my disappointment was an inconvenience. It would have meant so much to hear something as simple as, "I'm really sorry this happened. It shouldn't have. Let me get some appetizers for the table while we get you settled." Some acknowledgment that something important to me had gone wrong would have gone a long way. This is the hospitality industry, but I didn't feel treated with hospitality at all. I would never treat anyone the way I was treated that day, as a bride. After that conversation, it was another 30 minutes before our order was even taken. I had my children and family there waiting, but honestly, that part was a minor inconvenience compared with how the situation made me feel. We were supposed to cut our wedding cake there and continue celebrating, but by the end of the meal, I decided to take the cake home. I was simply too upset and disappointed to stay there any longer. I'm sharing this because the experience genuinely affected what should have been a very special part of my wedding day. I'm not asking for anything in return. I just want to share what happened and how it was handled.

The table was nicely prepared for all of us, with plenty of space for everyone. They have a lot of their seafood on display and if you like, you can pick which one you'd like them to prepare for you. They actually bring it out for a little show while it being prepared (see picture). I haven't one bad thing to say about this restaurant. A good time was had by all! Oh! One thing that was very impressive......twice (during the evening) silverware had fallen to the floor. A waiter would rush over to bring a clean set right away. Wow! Never saw that done with such fast precision!!!! I decided on the Lamb Chops. It comes with fried potatoes, tzatziki and I got a side of grilled vegetables. My husband got the same,only with Spanakorizo (rice,spinach & leeks). It was just too much food to keep account of everyone. Everything was delicious. One thing I can say is our waitress was a pro! We both ordered from the prix fixe menu (sharing the appetizers) which is a good deal, and I don't remember so many items involving an upcharge so that's new to me. - fried calamari - 4/5, very good, nice aioli dipping sauce, breading was consistent and not too heavy, light tasting and delicious - greek salad - 4/5, I usually love this and it was still delicious and fresh but I noticed that 1) they've changed the name so it's no longer called horiatiki, and 2) we had a very small piece of feta with the salad whereas in the past the ratio of feta to the tomatoes, green peppers, red onions, cucumbers has been more even. And now there's a $6 supplement charge for this appetizer which seems like A LOT for a salad. Next time I might skip this because of the upcharge - lavraki - 5/5, this light white fish is just the right amount of flavor and portion and my go to choice when I go to Estia. Also a $6 upcharge but this seemed more worth it - baklava - 5*/5, also a $2 upcharge but worth it as these four pieces of cylindrical baklava, while a little difficult to eat (use your hand? try to cut a cylinder with a fork?) it is an excellent baklava We went at 5pm before it got too busy and were seated away from the bar so we were able to have a quiet conversation but as the restaurant filled it definitely got noisier and I would not want to be seated near the bar. They do have a lovely outdoor area at the front and side of the restaurant so we could have sat outside since last night was quite mild in weather. One downside of the prix fixe is no zucchini and eggplant chips which are my favorite, and I didn't want to order that on top of the appetizer, entree, and dessert. Next time!

Finally, a NOW OPEN flag was placed atop the sign so my lady and I pulled in to find it. Tucked in the back behind the office building you will find this deceptively small looking building that is actually very spaceous inside. On the shelves you'll find a number of italian specialty items: dried pastas, desserts, chips etc. In the cases you will find prepared foods, salads and sauces. The day we went in there was a refridgerator problem with the glass case and all the food items were stacked on top of each other in a case that worked. We grabbed some cooked stuffed shells and some tomato sauce to reheat for dinner the next evening. The sauce was tasty and fresh but sweeter than I like (tasted like sugar was used which I will never understand as the tomatoes are sufficient.) The shells were spectacular - absolutely delicious. Their website with a full menu is under construction and will be here soon. This is a welcome addition to us folks out here. Closer than Carlinos in West Chester yet more limited compared to the offerings you can get at Carlinos, La Porta Via does offer a solid number of items I intend to try.
