Several months before my wedding, I personally came to the restaurant to make sure I would be able to reserve a table for 12 in the main dining room near the fireplace. I spoke with a dark-haired woman who told me that was totally fine, and she made the reservation for me. I knew that others would be at smaller tables in the room, and I was fine with that. La Porta is a special place where my fiancé and I have spent many lovely dinners together. It was really important to me that our intimate reception be somewhere I already loved, in a space that felt like me. I love the plaster walls, the wood features, the low light, the fireplace--that space is really special to me. La Porta's food is good, but Italian isn't my favorite cuisine. I chose to have my reception at La Porta for this space specifically. I would never want to have my wedding reception on a patio with plastic covering, which is why I came in months ahead of time and made those arrangements so carefully. When we arrived on Saturday, my party was made to sit on the patio. I spoke with our main waiter, a man I had seen at the restaurant before, about what had happened. He was dismissive and said, "Well, it wasn't in the notes. There's nothing I can do about it now." He didn't even say I'm sorry, and he acted annoyed. Angry isn't really the right word for how I felt. I was hurt. This was my wedding, one of the most important days of my life, and I wasn't able to have the reception in the space I had specifically booked and planned for. Mistakes happen, and I understand that. The mistake itself was upsetting, but what hurt even more was how the waiter handled it. On a day when I should have felt celebrated and cared for, I instead felt like my disappointment was an inconvenience. It would have meant so much to hear something as simple as, "I'm really sorry this happened. It shouldn't have. Let me get some appetizers for the table while we get you settled." Some acknowledgment that something important to me had gone wrong would have gone a long way. This is the hospitality industry, but I didn't feel treated with hospitality at all. I would never treat anyone the way I was treated that day, as a bride. After that conversation, it was another 30 minutes before our order was even taken. I had my children and family there waiting, but honestly, that part was a minor inconvenience compared with how the situation made me feel. We were supposed to cut our wedding cake there and continue celebrating, but by the end of the meal, I decided to take the cake home. I was simply too upset and disappointed to stay there any longer. I'm sharing this because the experience genuinely affected what should have been a very special part of my wedding day. I'm not asking for anything in return. I just want to share what happened and how it was handled.

First, the food was excellent, as it always is at this location. That's honestly something we've come to expect whenever we dine here. What really stood out this visit was the staff, especially our server, Jonathan B. We didn't have reservations, and we didn't make a big announcement about celebrating a birthday. Somehow Jonathan picked up on it and went out of his way to make my daughter feel special. Nothing felt forced or scripted. He was attentive, funny, personable, and seemed genuinely invested in making sure we had a great evening. Turning 21 is one of those milestone birthdays, and Jonathan helped make it memorable. The entire staff was warm and welcoming, and you could tell everyone genuinely cared about the guest experience. I also believe great staff are a reflection of great leadership, so credit is due there as well. Teams don't provide this kind of service by accident. It's clear there's a strong commitment to hospitality at this location, and it shows. Thank you to Jonathan and the entire team for helping make my daughter's birthday such a special one. They import and sell exclusively Italian wines, and they source their wines directly from farmers who are dedicated to organic farming practices. They also import many wines from young winemakers as well as female winemakers (from regions where female winemakers are not very common). The tasting room is very comfortable and had plenty of seating for people on a Saturday night around 6. You can drop in for shopping (they offer all 50 of their wines in their bottle shop) or to hang out (they offer rotating flights, glasses of wine, and a build your own charcuterie board menu). I was there for the $30 tasting (which is by reservation only), which included five wines and a some snacks (some chips, some cheese, some olives, and some fresh preserves/jam). Bailey, their somm, took such great care of me throughout my tasting. He brought me a map of Italy and described each wine and the winemaker with incredible detail and insight. I enjoyed all of the wines and the snacks! I also left with a few bottles to enjoy later at home! I had a great time at Vine Bar. They're doing something very cool and different from other wine bars, and I'd love to return for another tasting or just to enjoy a glass of wine or two at the bar.

I had the Lump Crab appetizer over arugula appetizer special, and it was very fresh crab over a salad with a thick lemon flavored dressing, perfect pairing. The menu make selecting an entree very difficult, but I narrowed it down to three and the waiter recommended Peace Francese. The fetch was so big it went from edge to edge of the plate, and you could not even see the pasta underneath it and had lots of crab meat all over the top they just all melted in your mouth. Easy 5 stars.
