A time limited series, Flavors of Guizhou, is now happening in 3 locations: 1 Nanshan hot pot: Prince street 2 Nanshan hot pot: Bayside 3 Er hot pot: Manhattan The special fermented chili & bean broth, plus many unique dishes, that are inspired by the sour & spicy flavors of the China Guizhou region are available for a limited time

I was interested in coming to this hot pot place for the panda theme! I found it interesting! As someone who really likes meat and protein, they do have some variety of meats and seafood. However I felt like their carbs section was a bit more limiting. I do like the service though!

So I was looking for all things themed panda and saw this as a wonderful place to go before Citi Field for a Mets game. It is in Downtown Flushing which apparently has become New York's better Chinatown for food. This is one of two American outposts of the Nanshan Hot Pot chain from China with the other in Bayside, Queens. We walked in and were greeted by very friendly staff and adorable pandas. I am glad we made a reservation since it was quite busy for an early dinner at 4:30 on a Saturday. Our waitress was amazing and ensured the broth had no pork or shellfish due to my wife's allergies and my kosher customs (although I eat meat out and now some shellfish but not shrimp). We got the spicy fish broth as our main hot pot and the fruit as the smaller side one. The spicy was a bit much for us but we still finished most of it. We had various meat including brisket and loved every bite and sip. To drink they had some bartenura in a can such as peach and lychee on menu (but substitute rossato) that I have not seen in Maryland so that was wonderful too and shows cultural appreciation towards us Jewish people. I really hope they expand to Chinatown in DC that is struggling and this would be so successful.

The service was nice even though you order through and iPad. She refilled our broth, waters and checked in on us, and then packed up our leftovers to go. The place is cute but imo overpriced and I didn't find the variety of ingredients or the ingredients themselves to be that great compared to other hotpot places. A few of my usual favorite hotpot ingredients were nowhere to be found. I was not a fan of their broths either. I think this place focuses on its aesthetic more than the food. Not bad. But I probably won't return with so many other places to choose from.

Flushing has a plethora of hotpot establishments erecting, so quality of food and service is really what sets them apart from each other. This spot is hard to miss because they normally have a dancing giant panda right in front. Bear in mind (pun intended?), this isn't an AYCE spot, so ordering a la carte can add up quickly. Most of the ordering can be done via tablet; it's very user-friendly and rather straightforward. You have the option of choosing up to 3 broths. We initially wanted to opt for 2 broths, but the size of the pot didn't really make sense; there was a small and large side to the 2 broth pot and we didn't have a preference to the broth yet. We opted for 3 broths (pork broth, tomato, sour soup) because of the even portion size. The broths were all very fragrant. Pork bone broth was my favorite, with the perfect amount of herbs. Tomato broth had a potent tomato flavor, so I would not recommend if you're not a fan of tomatoes. Sour soup is actually spicy, which we were very surprised about, but this wasn't too bad. One gripe I had was that they took forever to bring out the broth for some reason. We ordered a wide range of protein -- angus beef, beef slices, beef tongue, lamb slices, and fish; most of it ranged from $8.99 - $16.99 per order. I honestly could not tell you the difference between the variety of beef, but the beef tongue was definitely a crowd favorite. We also ordered the usual hotpot items such as fish roe balls, dried bean curds, quail eggs, wood-ear mushroom, fish tofu, enoki, AA Choy, vermicelli and handmade noodle; all which were very standard. Loved the wide vermicelli noodles, but you could hold off on the handmade noodles. These items were reasonably priced, at about $2.99-$6.99 per item, but they also charge for usage of sauce bar. While I do think the quality of most items were solid, I don't find myself visiting here often. You could probably get better quality items at a similar price range in the area. The restaurant itself is cute though, especially if you love giant pandas. -- BUT ALSO, why aren't there personal metal/heat friendly spoons to use??? Why are we hotpotting with plastic spoons?

Got nanshan takeout so three different kind of mala tang. Everything tasted okay but favorite was definitely the tomato broth one. Everything tasted like it was built upon the plain bone broth which was definitely the worse. The portions are pretty big and overall the order was prepared pretty quickly. The restaurant was pretty busy so might come back to try their hotpot

Yummy hot pot! Nanshan is not AYCE, and it's a bit pricey but the meat quality is very good. The plum pork and the lamb were both very good. I also liked the crispy pork trotters as an appetizer. I liked that you can have up to 3 different soup bases - the tomato was my favorite! The staff are very friendly, and the service is fast. It's casual and cute inside, with lots of panda-themed decorations.

This place was very clean. I liked they had 2 vegetarian broth options however there was not a lot of options to put in for vegetarians. Dessert& sauce bar add on is a great option. Wish there was more than one fresh fruit option. The dessert bar was very unique & had was my favorite part.

The cutest hotpot place filled with pandas. You can get three broth, my personal favorite is the tomato broth. The ingredients are fresh and delicious. The sauce station has free appetizers and desserts. The service is always prompt and friendly. There are tons of hot pot places in flushing now, this has been my go-to ever since it opened.

Tried this place on my trip to flushing. They have alot of seating and servers are very efficient. They have fruits and sauce bars that keep getting refilled! Food is ordered over ipads and as soon as you get your selections they get served. We ordered two portion broth and loved both of them. The price point is really good for NYC hotpot. Will defo go back!

Classic three-broth pot (spicy, pork, fruit)

You'd think that it would be hard to stand out as a hotpot place in Flushing, but surprise! I was so happy after eating here and I've already come twice in the last few weeks haha. Both times I came rather early, around 5:30 or so, and we managed to get seated immediately; but they definitely get really busy during peak meal times, so come early, make a res (I think this wasn't previously an option), or be prepared to queue. We opted for the classic three-flavour broth both times, which has a spicy mala broth, pork bone broth, and a fruity (!) broth. The fruity broth is actually kind of similar to the pork broth IMO but just a tad sweeter. Also, they were (are?) doing a promotion where the spicy broth can come with the spicy roe butter, so we did opt for that the first time, but to be entirely honest, we couldn't really taste the difference lol. And, the regular spicy one comes with the cute panda bear :) Some highlights - - For meats we tried a few but my favourite was the American beef (美國肥牛) despite being one of the cheaper options - really tender and flavourful. I also quite liked the basa fish which had a surprisingly large portion size. - We got an order of the fish roe balls (魚仔丸) which were really delicious. - Veggies were very fresh and yummy across the board. - Sweet potato noodles were great! - Matcha shaved ice was definitely the low point of the meals :( I really hate popping boba, so maybe this is just on me lol but buyer be warned! Overall it did just taste overly/sickly sweet, but at least it wasn't too pricey. For drinks I think you can actually order from the bubble tea shop next door (seems that they may be sharing a kitchen or something), and instead of desserts I'd recommend having some of their yummy orange slices at the sauce bar instead of their shaved ices lol. And get the membership! I think you have to basically buy/load a gift card, but there's no cost for the membership itself, and I will be coming here pretty often (and soon!) so it was a no-brainer for me haha.

Nanshan Hot Pot is so adorable and is a panda themed hot pot spot. The inside of the restaurant is bright, clean, and very inviting. Service here is kind and fairly quick. We got a variety of meats, veggies, and seafood for our hot pot and everything was delicious. The prices are good, but portions are also smaller to reflect that. The broth here is also pretty decent and I love the panda decor that they have on their hot pot. Their sauce bar has sesame oil and sesame paste made in house, which is super neat! Overall, not a bad hot pot spot!

Absolutely adorable and tasty new hot pot spot in Flushing. In a city where there are hot pot places on every block, it's sometimes hard to stand out, but Nanshan makes its mark with all the panda-themed features and outfits throughout! From staff dressed in panda ears to a huge fluffy panda mascot that wanders the street outside, everything is so adorable. When you come in, you're given a bib and hair tie (if you have long hair) and given an iPad to order from. Their spicy broth comes with a cute panda shaped seasoning block and their "house special fruit soup" is a great soup base if you need a break from the spice. All ingredients are very fresh and tasty, and quite reasonably priced. You do have to pay extra for sauces as is now seeming to be the norm.

The prices on the windows are very confusing and more like false advertising for me, the lower prices are for the members which we're not since this is our first time and definitely our last, unless our daughter wants to come here again. So the price is the more expensive one. For me, I prefer straight forward pricing, so this didn't give me good vibes, it's not the money, just the way they advertising and we have to know what we can only have with the price we chose. The restaurant just gives us the specific menu for what we selected to have then we don't have to be denied for what we chose because we selected gold instead of top of the line menu. The place is clean and nice. For $78/per person and only have Australian Wagyu Beef (not really Wagyu) then it's over priced. We did have some premium beef which I liked because of the marble of fat on the beef quite tender and tasty, but only a sampler or whatever they called it. Service with one person is quite inadequate but she's very attentive and pleasant, since she had to run the whole restaurant, sometimes forgets things. The tomato broth was good and everyone liked it. The seafood plate is OK and our sweet shrimps are sweet. Some snow crab legs, jumbo shrimps, fish fillets, nothing to make me go wow. The appetizers tempura is crispy and good. The raw octopus is tasty. The vegetables are fresh and clean. After they denied me the premium beef sampler, I let my daughter to order everything else and I just enjoyed with the family. My daughter seemed to be happy and ate a lot, so I was happy. I've eaten enough shabu, hot pot to know that Australian or American Wagyu are overrated, many of them are tough and chewy, not as tender as normal ribeyes or Brisket that I like. This restaurant Wagyu beef does have marbles of fat in it, so it's tender and not so chewy. So, for the GOLD menu, I don't think it's worth the $78 but for special occasions, it's OK. I just don't like the confusion of many menu, many prices, and not getting my own menu and get denied for something on the menu because I didn't pay enough.

Would you like to be transported back in time to ancient china?…read more How about just testing your spice tolerance to see if you can hang with the best? Well, if you want all of that, PLUS hot pot, look no further - this is the place to be! There is a reason this is one of the highest recommend spots to visit when you're in Flushing. First off, entrance? SO UNASSUMING. It's like, the tiniest door, with no real obvious signage. Once you go through, you basically feel like you're in one of the ancient alleys of China - decor is 1000% great. We had a larger party of 7, and they were luckily able to accommodate us since we lined up a few minutes before opening on a Friday. We actually got IMO the best seats in the house - towards the back, elevated up on some steps, a mini pavilion essentially. But enough about the decor.. how was the food? Well.. GREAT! And honestly, for NYC prices, not too expensive (but a bit pricy for flushing I guess). The quality was top notch (highly recommend trying the mala quail eggs) and the spice of the broth was GREAT! We went with medium since our server (amazing btw, thank you Sean / Shawn / Shaun??) said that he can't even go near hot, it burns his eyes. Medium was just perfect - felt great eating it with some sweats, regretted it the day after, which means I couldn't have asked for a better experience! Meats were good quality, veggies were yummy. I wish the shrimp paste had more in terms of quantity, we barely had seven bites for each of us, but it was really good. Also, pro tip, probably don't order Napa Cabbage, a lot of their other dishes will sit on top of a whole leaf, so you'll probably get enough from that unless you want to consume half a head. Sauce bar is $2 a person - which might be shocking for some to know they charge it, but it's pretty much the norm at a higher end hot pot place in big cities. At least they don't charge $6-$8 like some places and only throw in a few apps/desserts to try to justify it. Overall, really loved this place, and would definitely go back.

Having traveled from Pennsylvania based on positive experiences Ive been here few times before, I expected a much better experience. The service felt off from the start due to I was speaking Thai and waiter/waitress likely judged that I do not speak English. My husband heard the whole conversation and it bothered him at the moment led him to feel unwelcome, but I told my husband that I don't care what they think so we can enjoy our meal. The overall atmosphere was rather strange for an all-you-can-eat buffet. The total bill for two adults came to ~$74 We ordered two sets of pendant bread () for takeout, and we left a $10 cash tip on the table. Almost immediately after placing the cash down, the waitress approached and asked if it was a TIP making a VISIBLY DISPLEASED expression before walking away. As we were leaving, I was confronted by the owner or head manager (me and him spoke Thai) inquired what was wrong with the service. He stated that the waitress had complained about the TIP amount less than 10%. We explained that we had not included the approximately $30 takeout order in our tip calculation, especially considering it was a buffet restaurant. A quick calculation would have shown that the $10 TIP represented roughly 15% on the dining portion alone, and the waitress's primary contribution during our visit was simply providing water and choice of 'appetizers'. I gave them 5 stars on google and yelp 6 years ago (going to delete it) I have always recommended this place to my boss and colleagues from NY, NJ to PA But I will have to retract my recommendation to them after this. I REPEAT 'DO NOT COME HERE' We will NOT be returning. While the food itself was decent but the UNGRATEFUL ATTITUDE and handling of the situation completely ruined what had otherwise been a pleasant meal. I REPEAT DO NOT COME HERE! They will not appreciate shit from you if it TOO LITTLE (for them). This incident was HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL. I wish I can get my $10 back. Just because you want more, then you DESERVE NOTHING
