Visited this establishment today once again. Loved it so much the first time, I decided to return. Even from the outside, this eating spot is reminiscent of a 50's diner! Great comfy seating and plenty of booths. This is a diner and not necessarily into healthy options and that's why I gave it a 4/5. No gluten free options! I've had the Eggs Benedict Classic and they are delicious. Just the right amount of creaminess and eggs done to perfection. My friend ordered Nana Dee's breakfast special #3 and said it was delicious! Fun place with great food!

Another delicious breakfast here at Nana's. It's the old five and diner off of southern in the superstition mall you have two jukeboxes great music great food. Some of the food servers have been here between 10 and 15 years. If you don't know what she want. You'll never know you can get a chocolate shake or a malt afterwards. I think they even do banana splits to try. You'll love it. I do.

Came here on a Sunday at 11am, there wasn't a wait time to get seated and there were a decent number of people. A few things I'd note was that the food did take 30 minutes to come out, which was longer than we'd like. We also noticed that when people sat in the booth behind us, the back of the chair pushed into us since it's just a standing cushion. Once the food came out though, we ate right away and weren't disappointed with any of our dishes. As you'd expect from a diner, the house fries (warning, they're not the typical stick fries) were great. The hash browns were good too, but they would've been even better if they had a little more crunch to it. We were all so full from our meals. Now, to the part I'm most excited to review: the pancakes were SO FLUFFY!!! It literally melted in your mouth, like eating a cloud. No knife needed to cut through it because the consistency was perfect. It was probably one of the best pancakes I've had. Our server was very nice and we also loved the true retro design inside. Very fitting for a diner.

We LOVED our two visits last week! I'm sad I waited until the week I moved away to finally visit. Our service both times was awesome. So friendly and down-to-earth. The food was very good; well proportioned and just as you'd like from a diner. My favorite was the hot chocolate...made with real milk and not the watery stuff. Don't pass on this place! It's so fun and there seemed to be a lot of regulars, too.

Two waters and coffee, no refills offered

We had a simple lunch order and tipped 20%. Our beverages were likewise simple, two waters and a coffee. We were not given or offered any refills in the hour plus that we were there. There were four to five employees talking at the bar so it was not for a lack of employees.

Overdone liver. Your cook should look up how Gordon Ramsey cooks liver so it's not dry and is tender. And I ordered soup and not got it.

This is such a cute little diner. The staff is super friendly and definitely a place full of regulars. There were lots of hugs between the waitresses and customers when they were walking in. We had 3 people in our group and we all had Liver and Onions. We haven't had it in years and we were talking about our mom's making it so we heard this was the place to go and it was delish. Also ordered a chocolate milkshake and it tasted just perfect. Real!!

We've been wanting to try this warm and welcoming 1950's diner across from the Superstition Springs Mall and we were both seriously disappointed in the food. The vegetables were microwaved, the mashed potatoes tasted like they were made from the box and I can't honestly describe the meatloaf. My boyfriend had the turkey dinner and it looked simply disappointed as if it was pulled out of the freezer and heated to temperature it was a sad experience when it came to the food. I'm giving this place two stars just on the service our waiter was super personal and kind but service alone isn't going to get us to return.

First time trying this spot and it was a good experience! Pretty empty on a Monday night but a hit with the older crowd we could tell. Seated right away and food came out quickly. It tasted great and it was a fast and easy dining experience. Friendly workers and overall good experience. Simple straight forward diner food and a fun decorated restaurant.

Came here while on vacation in Mesa. This place is super cute. Very clean. Great service. The best part...the Food was amazing and the prices were very reasonable. I wish I could have eaten there again. Most of the staff are older and very very nice. Felt good to sit and eat breakfast in an old school diner. I would recommend this place to everyone that's in the area. read more

This is my second time here. I was very disappointed. Our server Val (although very nice), made us feel rushed. She wasn't very attentive. I only had one cup of coffee. She did not offer me a refill. Other than that for was good. Oh yeah and try not to put onions in your green chile. read more

Chicken Fried Steak better than TexAZ. What can I say? I lived in the south for a long time, then in Texas. For years I backed up the CFS here in Phoenix. The "Best of PHX" stood up to the best anywhere in the country. This beats them all. Seasoned beef, crispy batter, savory gravy. I had the delicious home fries and eggs. But I'm sure the other options are great. My wife had ham eggs and hash browns. She never eats as much as she did today. A Phoenix must have. read more

My mom and have been been to Nana Dee's several times and they never disappoint. Tonight we decided to split the turkey dinner and it was delicious but the gravy was a little salty for my liking. Our waiter, John was friendly and he put up with our many requests. The restaurant is clean and you feel like your stepping back in time with mini juke boxes at every table and oldies playing over the the speakers. read more

Great food! Green chili was amazing. Our entire meal was on point and so tasty! Service was great as well. The only feedback I have is to clean up the place a little bit. The fans have a large amount of caked on dust, the light in the waiting room is full of bugs, some of the things have fingerprints all over, looks like it hasn't been cleaned in a very long time. For being in these times with Covid and everything having to be sanitary, I would recommend cleaning this place top to bottom. We will be back! read more

Pretty good fare for what we ordered. I had the Hot Meatloaf sandwich and my GF had the Smothered Chicken with side of Beef Barley Soup. The Meatloaf itself had really good flavor however it was quite salty, this was balanced out by the sweetness of the onions, gravy, mushrooms and the mashed potatoes were excellent. The Smothered Chicken good. My GF really liked the grilled mushrooms and onions, used real Swiss cheese. The chicken was flavorful but a little dry. We both tried the beef barley soup and it was good, though the broth itself was vegetable instead of being a beef based broth, and the meat tasted like Roast Beef and we both enjoyed it. Chocolate malt... YUM!!! One of thee best chocolate malts I have had in the last 20 years!!! I will definitely be ordering from them again :) (no pics cause I was super hungry and chowed it down pretty fast lol) read more

Looking for a little lunch today and stumbled on this fun place. I love a greasy spoon diner! (Not to imply this place isn't clean! It is spotless!) After perusing the menu, we decided on tuna melts. They came with a generous portion of seasoned fries and a lovely pickle spear. The tuna salad was tasty and there was also sliced tomato in the sandwich, which was a nice surprise. The iced tea tasted really fresh. Our server, Carrie, was friendly and funny, and made our meals exactly perfect. Thank you! Ok, that was lunch yesterday. Today we came in for breakfast. I ordered a Belgian waffle with bacon on the crispy side, and coffee. The waffle was golden perfection served with whipped butter and warm syrup. The bacon was exactly the way I like it. Even the coffee was good, and I don't usually like diner coffee. My husband ordered the meat lovers skillet and he enjoyed it very much. Wish we weren't just visiting! We will definitely come back next time we are in the area! read more

My husband and I stumbled on this little gem when out running errands. We stopped in later in the evening and the place was almost empty. The manager Bill came over and had great conversation with us about the history of the diner. Very welcoming and friendly, the decor is such a throwback, and their nifty fifty fries are mm mm good! read more

Great little retro Diner. All the trimmings, vinyl booths, classic r&b music and a counter if you're so inclined. Downsides, the jukeboxes are for display only (not so bad because they play great music, but still...), and the food was just okay. I had liver and onions. The liver was sliced very thin, which makes it dry out if not cooked with a deft hand. The onions were one step up from raw. Needed to be caramelized. Next time I'll make sure and order them well done. Wife had chicken fried steak, which was pretty good. Gravy was on the thin side, and the breading was a bit underdone, so you ended up with a few bites of flour. She wanted the fried chicken, but we were told they were out. All in all, a typical diner experience. Food was probably worth giving them another shot. We'll probably come again for the atmosphere if nothing else. read more

I spotted this unique 1950s style restaurant after going to Walmart and tried them out. I ordered Garlic fries, Cherry pie and Chicken Pot pie. Chicken pot pie was alright but I really liked the Garlic fries and Cherry pie a la mode. Service is friendly and they have good prices. read more

I have been hunting for green chili in Arizona since I moved from Colorado. The owner makes it in house and you can find him behind the grill. The omelet was fluffy & light. This is the best place for a diner style breakfast. 1950s music is playing in the background. The place is covered in Elvis and Marilyn Monroe and James Dean memorabilia. They have the diner counter or booths available. The owner, Nana Dee, walks around greeting everyone and checking to make sure the food is what you wanted. The pancakes and waffles are so good. The biscuits and gravy are old fashioned and super flavorful. The staff is friendly, they welcome you immediately, and it doesn't take them long to remember your drink orders and 'usuals.' The milkshakes are huge and they use Breyers ice cream. read more

We always have a wonderful breakfast here! Deb and Jamie are our favorite waitresses and are amazing! The ham steak is soooo good and a favorite of ours. The one older shorter waitress needs to calm down a bit. She's too pushy and talks too much. She gives me an anxious experience. Not cool. Could use some consistency in portions and offer other fruit instead of cantaloupe. read more

I grew up in the land of diners aka New Jersey but out in AZ you don't come across too many diners. We were in the area waiting for my car to come back from the mechanic when we saw Nana Dee's diner. I was not in the mood to cook so we decided to take a shot at it. We walked in to this 50s style diner and were pleasantly surprised. The decor is a cute 50s decor which includes the waitresses with their poodle skirts. I had the redwood sandwich and my husband had the meatloaf sandwich. It was simple delicious diner food. As many of you know, I love...LOVE 50's diners. Found this really cool gem. They have little juke boxes on the tables. There's Elvis and Buddy Holly playing. The wife got the corned beef and had with scrambled eggs and hash browns. The beef was chunky and meaty. I got the French toast with eggs and bacon and hash browns. The wife. Said it was really good. The French toast batter was so tasty. The coffee was good and hot. Yes kitten and daddy-o I would recommend this place for your 50's fix. read more

Food was OK - it def smells like sewer in there. Onion rings are not worth the extra 2+ dollars, burgers were not worth it. Fries were good. Staff was friendly but a staff member dropped full cup of a drink on us and apologized but I felt like we should have gotten some sort of a discount as it soaked my husbands shirt, shorts and socks. I wouldn't rave and tell people about this place. read more

We arrived on a Sunday at their new location, which is super nice, VW bus and all. :) While relatively small, it is many times larger than their old location around the corner. You can sit inside at a table, at the bar, or at one of the few patio tables on a nice day. We sat inside for this first visit, and a friendly server took our order. We chose to order from the breakfast menu, and I ordered The Camper: Crispy double-dipped fried chicken thigh smothered in savory gravy and topped with cheese, three slices of Nueske's peppered bacon, and an over-easy egg, served on a housemade butter biscuit. My wife ordered the CSA Scramble: Farm-fresh veggies from Crooked Sky Farms CSA basket scrambled with three eggs, served with fruit, sliced tomato, and 9-grain toast. Needless to say, we were both impressed. The Camper was absolutely perfect. I would not change a thing. The gravy was just special, and there was so much food, I took some home. "Just eat the 'steak' I picked the stuffing apart - could not eat more than a thimble. Gummy gluten salty yuck was inedible. The FINGERPRINTS! 2 Fingertips past knuckles imprinted. I left it and hope someone there stopped to think "Why?" Our Waitress tried to make up by suddendly being nice when she walked behind me with a second piece of pie ...to go home. I remember this saying if you l oh someone's attention the first three seconds and first three steps you'll spend the next 30 min trying to make them believe you're hiring. It's true. I was too tired this week to be extremely understanding but I'm never rude. I told my hubby let's both let this one go. And I said "But we won't return here." He nodded in agreement. Because I see people come in and sit down I see how tired they are and make quick calls to be able to turn their day around if only for a short time before they return home....to being a caregiver or to grieve a loss. Sad dinner and maybe she had a tough week too. But. But times 3 over.

Both my wife and I like this place but we don't enjoy eating here. We have tried it several times and here's our thoughts. They make great malts / shakes and this is a fantastic place to go for that. The 1950's America decor is immersive and fun. Enjoy it for what it is. As an eatery it's more of a place for the older folk. The food is ok but bland and doesn't satisfy. The coffee mugs are too small and so are the water glasses. The pancakes are more doughy than light and fluffy. I work next door, and Nana Dee's Diner is always amazing! Whether I'm grabbing breakfast before my shift or a quick lunch in between, they never disappoint. The food is consistently fresh and delicious, the staff is friendly and welcoming, and the service is super quick -- which is perfect for a busy workday.
