Another delicious breakfast here at Nana's. It's the old five and diner off of southern in the superstition mall you have two jukeboxes great music great food. Some of the food servers have been here between 10 and 15 years. If you don't know what she want. You'll never know you can get a chocolate shake or a malt afterwards. I think they even do banana splits to try. You'll love it. I do.

Visited this establishment today once again. Loved it so much the first time, I decided to return. Even from the outside, this eating spot is reminiscent of a 50's diner! Great comfy seating and plenty of booths. This is a diner and not necessarily into healthy options and that's why I gave it a 4/5. No gluten free options! I've had the Eggs Benedict Classic and they are delicious. Just the right amount of creaminess and eggs done to perfection. My friend ordered Nana Dee's breakfast special #3 and said it was delicious! Fun place with great food!

Came here on a Sunday at 11am, there wasn't a wait time to get seated and there were a decent number of people. A few things I'd note was that the food did take 30 minutes to come out, which was longer than we'd like. We also noticed that when people sat in the booth behind us, the back of the chair pushed into us since it's just a standing cushion. Once the food came out though, we ate right away and weren't disappointed with any of our dishes. As you'd expect from a diner, the house fries (warning, they're not the typical stick fries) were great. The hash browns were good too, but they would've been even better if they had a little more crunch to it. We were all so full from our meals. Now, to the part I'm most excited to review: the pancakes were SO FLUFFY!!! It literally melted in your mouth, like eating a cloud. No knife needed to cut through it because the consistency was perfect. It was probably one of the best pancakes I've had. Our server was very nice and we also loved the true retro design inside. Very fitting for a diner.

We LOVED our two visits last week! I'm sad I waited until the week I moved away to finally visit. Our service both times was awesome. So friendly and down-to-earth. The food was very good; well proportioned and just as you'd like from a diner. My favorite was the hot chocolate...made with real milk and not the watery stuff. Don't pass on this place! It's so fun and there seemed to be a lot of regulars, too.

We had a simple lunch order and tipped 20%. Our beverages were likewise simple, two waters and a coffee. We were not given or offered any refills in the hour plus that we were there. There were four to five employees talking at the bar so it was not for a lack of employees.

Overdone liver. Your cook should look up how Gordon Ramsey cooks liver so it's not dry and is tender. And I ordered soup and not got it.

This is such a cute little diner. The staff is super friendly and definitely a place full of regulars. There were lots of hugs between the waitresses and customers when they were walking in. We had 3 people in our group and we all had Liver and Onions. We haven't had it in years and we were talking about our mom's making it so we heard this was the place to go and it was delish. Also ordered a chocolate milkshake and it tasted just perfect. Real!!

We've been wanting to try this warm and welcoming 1950's diner across from the Superstition Springs Mall and we were both seriously disappointed in the food. The vegetables were microwaved, the mashed potatoes tasted like they were made from the box and I can't honestly describe the meatloaf. My boyfriend had the turkey dinner and it looked simply disappointed as if it was pulled out of the freezer and heated to temperature it was a sad experience when it came to the food. I'm giving this place two stars just on the service our waiter was super personal and kind but service alone isn't going to get us to return.

First time trying this spot and it was a good experience! Pretty empty on a Monday night but a hit with the older crowd we could tell. Seated right away and food came out quickly. It tasted great and it was a fast and easy dining experience. Friendly workers and overall good experience. Simple straight forward diner food and a fun decorated restaurant.

Picked this place to meet a high school friend who was visiting her relatives in Mesa. So, I found this place on Yelp and picked it because it was near the Superstition mall and thought it would be an easy location for her to find. That was a good choice. She found it easily and we had breakfast. Food was average/ to slightly above average diner food. It wasn't gourmet but that's not what we were expecting so that was no disappointment on our parts. Had a lovely breakfast and coffee. If you're in the area and need good homestyle food I'd recommend this place. read more

I have a thing about going to restaurants that may not have very stellar reviews. In some cases they have terrible reviews. I choose to give them a chance because I read those negative reviews and so many of them neg the place for totally bogus reasons, or I check how they reviewed other places and see that the ones they give 5-stars to are places like Applebees or Olive Garden, ie. cookie-cutter national chains. Nana Dee's has some pretty low reviews too but most of them targeted the food as being pretty bad. Knowing that this place took over a failed 5-and-Diner I honestly didn't expect them to be anything special. Turns out this is one of those times the low reviews were right on point, this place is nothing special. The red flags were there when we approached one afternoon and the parking lot was deserted. We walked in and there was one other couple in the whole place and they were very loudly and animatedly complaining that their food was "garbage". It seemed there was an argument going in between them and the owner. After the couple got up an left and we were all alone with the owner and a waiter what do you think happened? Not what you think. At least not what I would have done If I was the owner. I would have walked over to our table, apologized for the commotion, welcomed us to the restaurant and chatted with us a bit. Nope. After very loudly yelling across the room the owner walked out, totally ignored us, the ONLY customers in the entire restaurant! I have met so many wonderful, friendly and hard working restaurant owners in recent months who work their tails off and pour their hearts into their business and usually I slide their review up a point or two to help offset some of the unfair negatives and encourage others to at least give them a chance. But not here. It's obvious this place is on a crash course to oblivion. By the way, my hamburger was "chain restaurant mediocre", not terrible but (and this is something I can't believe I'm saying) I think I would have preferred a Big Mac. read more

I came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. It was a great visit. Had to wait for about 5 mins and the staff very friendly. The food was delicious and the portion sizes are not bad. The prices are about average. I got the Eggs it on a Biscuit. Very delicious. The inside is like an old 50's dinner with all of the old pictures of. I would recommend this place if your on the area. You will enjoy it so give it a try! read more

Wonderful greeting when we came in, our server was so prompt bubbly, and a pleasure to work with. Very knowledgeable on food exquisite food!!! I had the meatloaf and it just brought me back to when I was a child, mashed potatoes on point great vegetables! I also had the beef barley soup that was out of this world!! then to top it off and amazing malt that totally brought me back to childhood. A wonderful experience the ambience was totally awesome. I was in Mesa for family event and this place was close by. Had a great retro diner feel and the food was pretty good comfort food. I have breakfast and lunch there and enjoyed them both. I was in the area and decided to try Nana Dee's Diner. I was greeted by friendly staff, service was great. Prices are reasonable. I ordered a burrito, my friends ordered an omelette and a sandwich. My husband was thinking 3 out of five. Unfortunately we were disappointed. Reading all the reviews we decided to try it anyway. I got the corn beef hash and my husband got the steak omelette. Mine was SO salty! I couldn't hardly eat it. When she brought it out I could see the salt sprinkled on top of it. My husbands omelette was average. He said it was " safe to eat". Service was so so as we were welcomed in with a smile but once we were sat that was it for hospitality. When our food came back we never saw our server again. And lastly, what American doesn't love duct tape, right? But I mean if you are trying to get going and have just opened, starting off with everything covered in tape as a permanent fix isn't going to help the " come and eat here again" appeal. read more

Came here because all of the "popular" breakfast joints had crazy wait times. Food was delicious, we had the corned beef hash and the chicken fried steak, both absolutely delicious! The coffee was excellent, our server Robbie was quick and courteous, and the environment was cozy and relaxed. Come hungry, leave w/your dinner in a To-Go container because you complained about the cold steak & the under cooked fish/fish batter is this places motto! I have been to a few diners in PA & NY so I expected the same here w/both friendly atmosphere & good quality food. We got neither. This being our 1st time here, it is safe to say it will be our last. $34 for a to-go container during an All You Can Eat fish dinner after only eating 2pcs & having the other 3 shoved into a box w/out even the option of ordering dessert is very unprofessional. Bottom line? Don't offend the cook or you will get the same treatment. Happy Valentine's Day read more

I hadn't been here in years since I was little in the late 90's but it's still as nostalgic as ever. I LOOOOVE the 50's theme and the service was awesome! I got the "Pancakes and meat" and a side of egg. It was all so delicious and it makes me wanna go back so bad. I live kinda far but I would totally make the drive. Oh my goodness! I'm definitely going back to try the Corn-beef hash., Lumberjack breakfast on my next trip. I had the pancakes. They were absolutely perfect and very tasty. The waitress never let our coffee get below half-full and there were ten people in our party on a Saturday morning. Loved the old time diner atmosphere!. read more

This is a themed American 50s diner that was formerly a 5 & Diner building. The menu is basically the same as its previous operator. Quality burgers, fries and shakes. The reason I enjoy it is that it is one of the few places you can get wet fries (fries with gravy) in the Valley. The facility is clean and we'll lit and the staff is kind. The food is decent but not surprising. The pace is slow, so sometimes it feels that your order is not in the queue. In fact, on my last visit, they forgot to put the order in- however they did take a discount off the bill due to the mistake and apologized. I wasn't in a hurry that day so it didn't bother me. The restaurant seems over staffed in the empty afternoon hours, but under staffed for the dinner rush, but that is just my experience. If you have time and enjoy basic American burger and fries food, this is a good stop. read more

We arrived on a Sunday at their new location, which is super nice, VW bus and all. :) While relatively small, it is many times larger than their old location around the corner. You can sit inside at a table, at the bar, or at one of the few patio tables on a nice day. We sat inside for this first visit, and a friendly server took our order. We chose to order from the breakfast menu, and I ordered The Camper: Crispy double-dipped fried chicken thigh smothered in savory gravy and topped with cheese, three slices of Nueske's peppered bacon, and an over-easy egg, served on a housemade butter biscuit. My wife ordered the CSA Scramble: Farm-fresh veggies from Crooked Sky Farms CSA basket scrambled with three eggs, served with fruit, sliced tomato, and 9-grain toast. Needless to say, we were both impressed. The Camper was absolutely perfect. I would not change a thing. The gravy was just special, and there was so much food, I took some home. My wife's dish was fresh and perfect for what she was looking for. Do consider donating to this worthy cause. "Just eat the 'steak' I picked the stuffing apart - could not eat more than a thimble. Gummy gluten salty yuck was inedible. The FINGERPRINTS! 2 Fingertips past knuckles imprinted. I left it and hope someone there stopped to think "Why?" Our Waitress tried to make up by suddendly being nice when she walked behind me with a second piece of pie ...to go home. I remember this saying if you l oh someone's attention the first three seconds and first three steps you'll spend the next 30 min trying to make them believe you're hiring. It's true. I was too tired this week to be extremely understanding but I'm never rude. I told my hubby let's both let this one go. And I said "But we won't return here." He nodded in agreement. Because I see people come in and sit down I see how tired they are and make quick calls to be able to turn their day around if only for a short time before they return home....to being a caregiver or to grieve a loss. Sad dinner and maybe she had a tough week too. But. But times 3 over.

Both my wife and I like this place but we don't enjoy eating here. We have tried it several times and here's our thoughts. They make great malts / shakes and this is a fantastic place to go for that. The 1950's America decor is immersive and fun. Enjoy it for what it is. As an eatery it's more of a place for the older folk. The food is ok but bland and doesn't satisfy. The coffee mugs are too small and so are the water glasses. The pancakes are more doughy than light and fluffy.
