TL;DR Underappreciated find with the best AYCE self-serve rolled marinated galbi (beef short ribs) deal in Philly. Owners don't know much English but who cares as long as they understand "water" and "check?" Came here with a friend on a Monday night and it was empty except the Korean couple owners. They don't speak much English but if you're Korean like we were, they love to chat and are super friendly. Anyway, galbi is on par or better than the best kbbq restaurants in the area. They serve them in the rolled style instead of with the 3 annoying bones which makes eating it a million times easier. The owners also cook the meats for you unless you say you can do it yourselves. Good service. Friend and I ended up eating about 10 galbi pieces which if you bought at a restaurant would be about $30/pair or $150 in galbi alone. On top of that we ate samgyupsal (thick cut pork belly) and a bunch of other meats and side dishes. All in all, AYCE KBBQ dinner for 2 came out to $80+tip-- fantastic quality and deal if in the mood for high quality KBBQ. read more

Been here before for late night dinner. This will be our first time here for korean BBQ. Excited Update June 2016 KBBQ was very good if not excellent, especially in light of a recent dinning experience at a nearby place that actually placed a cap on the number of kalbi you can have ( the other KBBQ restaurant gave 1 roll of kalbi by default, 2 if you asked ). The kalbi here was juicy, tender and we'll marinated with a hint if sweetness. Service was OK since it was not too busy. So good! The barbeque is my fav -- beef, onions, mushrooms and garlic barbecued at the table. The secret is in the wood charcoal chips, installed piping hot right there on the spot, giving you the best flavor ever for your Q. Other favs, koreaan seafood pancake, and the spicy squid thingy. This is a family owned throughoutly traditional Korean BBQ buffet. They use fresh coals under cast iron grill...no gas heat. Delicious marinated meat and fresh home made vegetables. We were so happy to take a chance on this restaurant. It's a hidden gem. Fresh refrigerated meat selection of 10 different meats and about 12 different sides and pickles. Full bbq is $30/person and so worth it. We took some pics at dinner. Some complain it's more expensive than other places around Philly, but a lot of Korean families eat here, it's never completely empty, at least not at dinner. The quality is very good. They have other things as well, besides barbecue, traditional Korean dishes. Give it a try you won't be sorry... Enjoy! Set back on Route 3 look for the green signs. read more

My family used to always come here for the neng myun (cold buck wheat noodles) and bbq, but the quality has changed. They don't make the broth but used prepackaged ones that arent that good. This place is not a friendly restaurant. After we got our table no one offered anything menu, water, etc. One of our order is bulgogi and it's too sweet, they did not give us any lettuce but the other table they served them lettuce. The only vegetables that I taste/see in yukgae-jang was scallions where's the other veggies? We did not see the server anymore until we are ready to leave.. No refill for our drinks either. Been here several times since my last review and it's always awesome. I had to tell a funny story about our most recent trip. My friends and I were feeling pretty adventurous and wanted to get something different for one of our dishes so we ordered Stingray. When I pointed it out to the waitress she made like a sour face and shook her head no. I asked why and her response was "Korean... yes. American... no like". All of us kind of looked at each other and said in our own variation "well we can't back down since we are being challenged". It felt like a moment from Always Sunny. Went here on a weeknight and was craving BBQ, bad! Had to go some place close to home so read some reviews on Yelp and thought we would give it a try. Place was empty except for one table of Korean girls chatting it up and we were sat immediately. I knew what I wanted and tried to order but the server insisted that I point to the items I wanted to BBQ, no biggie. When the food came out after the banchan, the server warmed up a little. I asked for sesame oil for one of the dishes and she seemed to respond to us a bit more seriously after that. Her English was not very good, but then again, my Korean is horrid, so the night went along as smoothly as it could. We ended up ordering seconds of meat and left feeling quite full. four stars for the following positive things: parking, ease of ordering from the menu, soju available. minus a star for the following: ventilation wasn't over each table, so the room became a little stuffy, I felt the portion sizes could have been larger, one server for Korean service for the whole restaurant wasn't enough. Once another table came in, it became very hard to order anything else. Overall, I would go here again but I wouldn't rush back, going to keep trying places close to home and if you have recommendations, send them my way. wow...idk how this place is still up and running because they have no one there on a Friday night...and I mean not a soul except myself and the other person with me. Walked in, no one sat us down and they had newspapers laying everywhere. When we were finally sat down, no direction of where the buffet was cause they closed everything so you can't see it. Food was really good though, the meats were well seasoned, however variety wasn't amazing. This is the only decent thing of this establishment. But man oh man, the price was steep! 38 bucks a person compared to the other place down the street, which was 33 and they offer much more that comes with it like soon tofu, scallion seafood pancake. I'd say this was robbery...I've been to kbbq buffets that offer much better quality for way under that price. Let's get to by far the worst thing...the lady who seems like she owns the place along with her husband fell asleep not just once...but 3x. Great take out korean food! I was having a craving for good soondubu jigae, japchae and some banchans, but the only places I knew about were in Philly. Until now that is. I'm really picky about my korean food and was skeptical about ordering take out, but I was hungry and wasn't in the mood for a sit down meal. When I got there an older woman opened the door for me and welcomed me inside (she was also super nice) and quickly rang up my order when I said I ordered the take out. I didn't get back to my house until an hour after I picked it up and the soondubu was still boiling hot. The japchae was awesome and the kimchi was so good. The biggest surprise was when the food came in real plastic tupperware containers! It was perfect for storing the leftovers. Granted its not as good as back home in LA but it sure hit the spot. First time at this restaurant. It's ok. The food could be better. We had a large group and ordered many different dishes. All were just ok. The rice cakes were alittle on the sweet side and very small portion for the cost. The food here was just not to my standards. The kids enjoyed the dumplings and seafood noodle dish. I grew up coming here as a kid. I never had any issues aside from the fact that they can be slightly pricey. I love the food here. It always tastes authentic!! I've had their jiggaes to their bbq. All very tasty. I love supporting my mom and pop restaurants (esp the good ones :) ) so definitely come here for a try! I love Nagwon Garden...very good quality meats and their sam gye tang (Chicken & Ginseng soup) is pretty good as long as you add in a good deal of salt (which they provide). I love the galbi and the selection of banchan. In addition to BBQ Nagwon has a good selection of other Korean dishes. Definately worth a visit if you are in the Philadelphia or Mainline Areas. read more

There is a buffet but we didn't know because we were the only people there and it's way in the back. Also it's not on the menu. Wasn't until another group showed up and got it did we know. I used to come here often when I was younger (with my family), so for old times sakes I went with a few friends. Maybe it was just a bad day, but the quality of food was very poor. Being from South Korea, perhaps I'm being too harsh but there's not one thing I enjoyed about my meal here. The reason it gets two stars instead of one is because the staff there was nice. Good for the price. The BBQ buffet is around $30 per person. It is also possible to order the BBQ dish individually without taking the buffet route. The restaurant has regular Korean food menu as well if you are craving for a bowl of kimchi jjigae or sundubu or anything else. We haven't tried the regular menu yet, so couldn't comment on that. Reading the previous comment that they only accepted a party of 2 for BBQ buffet, we were quite worried since we had 4 people. However, when we arrived at the restaurant, it was not the case. So my family came in hungry and cold. We honestly only came here because it was the closest kbbq and we wanted to give this restaurant another try. We ordered the shrimp & squid, spicy pork, and seafood soft tofu stew. We had to wait forty minutes before we got anything to eat but I'll let it slide since there was only a old lady running the services. The side dishes that we received were decent but it didn't have the punch that we expected. The flavors built up and then it just disappeared. Very disappointed. When the bbq food did come out, we didn't expect that much meat. That was a plus. However my family was very disappointed when we were told that there were no lettuce wraps to wrap the meat. We just had meat and rice. If we knew that before hand, we would not have come at all. The stew had a nice flavor but it sort of reminded me of an instant ramen flavor. I was also disappointed when the only seafood we had in the "seafood stew" were a few pieces of tiny shrimp. I don't expect much but just shrimp doesn't make it a seafood stew. I was pleasantly surprised that this place existed and I've lived in philly for over three years! Absolutely accessible from public transit, and the price isn't bad for all you can eat. The food is authentic, awesome, and reasonably priced. The "Ban Chan" (e.g., appetizers) are diverse and tasty. We've been driving by this place for years and finally decided to give it a try on the way home from the flower show. Most entrees are $13 and above which is an absurdly high price point considering the decor (circa 1980) and the quality. The service was very good but that's about it. The ventilation is not adequate for a place that features mini BBQ pits at the table. It was so smokey at one point that my eyes were burning and when I got home, sure enough, I smelled like Korean BBQ that had been BBQing too long. I know this is a BBQ place, but I was really surprised to find that there wasn't a single salad option on the menu. My son ordered chicken terrakyi - at $13 you'd expect a lean breast of chicken with veggies. But no, it was chicken pieces cooked in a terrakyi sauce - perhaps straight out of a jar? I ordered something that came out the equivalent of shrimp fried rice. For $11, it was sorely lacking in taste, and a generous splash of soy sauce did little to liven it up. Unless you're seeking BBQ (minimum $40 for two people), I suggest that you skip this place and head directly to Cafe Pho at Terminal Square where virtually every entree is less than $9 and the food is uniformly very good. I am absolutely floored that they are able to charge these high prices and stay in business. read more

ordered dolsot bibimbap and some beef over rice dish. got some sides and ice water. the sides were tasty. food came out a little bit later. my beef over rice dish was a stirfry which i wasn't expecting like bokumbap which if i knew it came out like this i wouldn't have ordered. i'm about half way done my food and my cup of water was empty. waited and waited but all i could hear and see was the server's head buried in some kdrama on her tablet. i went to the bathroom 5 minutes later and stopped at where she was sitting and i stood there 10-15 seconds and she didn't move. WARNING!!! WARNING!!! This place IS NOT I repeat IS NOT all you can eat!!! After seeing reviews on the internet, all saying this place is all you can eat, and after going to the place and seeing the word "buffet" written in huge letters right on the front of the restaurant, and after CHECKING with the waitress that the bar b que buffet was all you can eat (she said yes!), we received a bill for a whopping $122!!! She charged us for every plate we ordered, plates we thought were refills! I told her "hey, you said the bar b que was all you can eat!" She pretended to not understand, and kept explaining over and over that we ordered four dishes of meat. This is such a huge SCAM and a RIP OFF! By the way, there was no one else in the entire place at 7:00pm, which is of course prime dinner hour, on a Friday night! The place was EMPTY! Probably because of the big rip-off scam they're running! The Better Business Bureau should shut them down. I don't know who all the other reviewers are who keep saying it's all you can eat. Maybe it's all you can eat for some people and not for others, I don't know. But please be advised you will come out with a HUGE bill if you order what you think are "refills."
