Philadelphia Distilling is one of the first craft distillery in Pennsylvania since Prohibition, known for its award-winning Bluecoat Gin and other so many other spirits, and features a tasting room with a full kitchen, cocktail bar, and tours in a historic Fishtown location. Meanwhile, she has an iPad where she can look up our reservation which she had done just 15 minutes prior for others in our group. The drinks are interesting and pretty good. Keep in mind they're gin based and I thought they were pretty strong. The food options are very limited, but the potatoes were good.

They have a nice variety of cocktails with their vodka, along with infused vodka, beer, and RTD canned cocktails (Stateside or Sunnyside) by the bucket (5 for $25).  This gave us a chance to try a variety of things.  Our group's two favorite cocktails were the Clockwork Orange and the Crush.  The mule was also tasty. Overall a fun relaxing stop.  Grab one of their board games and stay awhile.

Palmer was our first stop, and I'm so happy that it was! The owner was very friendly and passionate about his gin. The careful eye will spot his face on the label--which is a very cool label that won an industry award. He walked us through the distilling process, a history lesson on gin and the spice trade, and even threw in a few food/brewery/distillery/cocktail bar recommendations for us to try on the next trip! Celebrating 5 years this year, they had expertly created sprites that you can enjoy neat, chilled, or mixed into a delicious cocktail for a summer day. Stopping in after seeing it as a groupon, I couldn't convince any friends to join me, but their lost as I stopped in to take in the peace of the farm lands of South Jersey. The flavors of their bourbon, limoncelo, barreled gin, and their aquavit were bold yet flavorful, able to enjoy by themselves or in a drink. The tasting allowed me to enjoy three of them while Mark allowed me to taste their passion as they continued to craft and find new ways to create new drinks. I had their bourbon, barreled gin, limoncello while got a tease of their aquavita and espresso gin which will keep me up for a while. Enjoying the two bridges wine, brew and distillery trail will bring you to this hidden gem for a time away from the hustle and bustle of Philly to some country peace and quiet.

My most memorable drink of the night was ironically my last one, Forbidden Knowledge. It's unusual to say the least, and most people might hate the lovecraftian ingredients, but I enjoy trying something that looks like there's a story behind it. One of my favorite game series is Elder Scrolls, and this drink just screamed Hermaeus Mora and the dark library within the Wretched Abyss. I didn't have high hopes for the taste, but surprisingly, it suited my palette. Sweet, a little bitter, with a tart bite and sharp herbal kick to the senses. Chatted with the amazing bartender who concocted the drinks that night, and he told me that some of them, like this one, came to him in a dream. He showed us the prep work it took to keep the ingredients fresh and ready for mixing. Gotta appreciate the creative energy and effort it takes to designing culinary experiences like this, so hats off to the staff here. They were so open and made us feel very welcome! Thank you, and I can't wait to visit again when I'm back in town :)
