1- The cashier didn't greet me. Even after I said "Hi" she still didn't greet me back 2- They charged me an extra 50 cent for half & half in my iced matcha lattee. I asked which milk do they not chrage extra for, she said "whole milk" 3- $10 for a 16 oz iced matcha latte with vanilla 4-Even after giving me my matcha still no thank you nor greeting from the cashier/barista I'm not going back. I don't care that they offer the opportunity to get an iced matcha latte at 7:30pm on a Sunday night. The highway robbery & bad customer serivce negates it.
After a fun candle making session at Cork & Candles, we walked over to Char & Stave. It was a cold Sunday afternoon and it was pretty busy. We found a seat for the four of us. It's cozy inside with dim lighting. A nice amount of seating and a small bar area of seating. There are QR codes of the drink menu & there are a lot of options. Two of us ordered alcoholic drinks, an Espresso Martini w/ Vodka and a London Fog w/ Vodka. And the other two of us ordered lattes. Everything was perfect! This was my first time in the Ardmore area; I came for my book club! Was hoping they would have a few more food options, as I was not aware in advance that it was a coffee shop and cocktail bar. (Sue me, I was craving a bacon egg and cheese!). I ordered an iced chai latte that was one of the seasonal specials and a blueberry tart. Lots of seating and clearly a very popular establishment - by the time we left, the line to get in was to the door.
Incredible product no doubt. Smokey Maple Latte is hands down one of the best coffee beverages i ever had. It's worth the $7.75 price tag. Nice working cafe with a decent vibe. Clean restroom. Seating is plentiful but a full house is not uncommon so be prepared to grab and go. So......the not so great you're wondering? -Constantly out of Nitro Cold Brew. Why? No excuse. -Barista might be talented with their hands but they flunk the personality test. I mean come on. Try to be friendly. Put on a fake smile and fake chat. -parking can be difficult at times. Rittenhouse Place has parking issues and is not free! Download Parkmobile app before you go and set up your account to avoid delays.
I visited Char & Stave mid-morning on a weekday to give their coffee a try. It wasn't crowded, there was plenty of seating available, and there was no line at the counter. I ordered the current Cereal Milk Latte offering, which was Cocoa Pebbles. The prices of their standard coffee drinks are generally in line with the other higher end coffee shops in the area, although for the specialty lattes they only offer a 12 ounce size and the prices are premium. There was a pretty limited selection of pastries, and nothing grabbed me, so I stuck to just coffee. The barista was friendly and my drink was prepared quickly. I was a bit confused by the Lucky Charms marshmallows on top since the current flavor was Cocoa Pebbles, but I'll never turn down more sweetness in my latte. The drink was good - flavorful, smooth, not too acidic. Not on the sweeter end of the latte spectrum, but as someone with a major sweet tooth I still enjoyed it. I took my drink to go, but there was plenty of seating, and the inside seems comfortable for both singles and groups. They had a list of upcoming events ranging from Quizzo to a poetry open mic night to Dungeons & Drafts. They also have a large retail section with whiskey, spirits and some other merch. Seems like a solid spot for a quiet morning coffee or a spirited evening whisky and event hang-out.
One of the best coffee spots in the region. The whiskey smash is so unique. It has robust flavor, all while providing that super charge kick you look for in caffeine. If you manage to come during the winter ask for their "Sour and Spice" drink. It is their phenomenal take on a traditional whiskey sour.
I have been wanting to try this spot out for so long. I was so glad to finally make my way here. I really appreciated the vibe and staff. It's a great spot to get some homework done while enjoying a drink. The drink I got was super tasty! The blueberry muffin was so fresh and kept making me want more! I can't wait to come back to taste more of their items off their menu
I've been lucky enough to be visiting Char and Stave since their inception. It's exactly what the block of Rittenhouse Place needed- great location, great coffee, great service, and the best aesthetic! One could say, Char and Stave is trouble for me, as I work on the same block. TAKE MY MONNNNNNEY!!! Julian is SO sweet- my husband I have gotten to know him very well and he's always friendly and helpful when I'm curious about trying something new. I typically opt for a vanilla latte with almond milk, but once in awhile I switch it up if they feature a snazzy seasonal beverage or their infamous cereal milk! Yes, you heard correctly, CEREAL MILK! Said milk changes every few months, and can be added to any beverage. Today I got the almond cookie latte and it's phenomenal in flavor not to mention it's topped with sprinkles. Sprinkles are like sunshine- they just make your day! (lol) Unfortunately, for me, I have not had a chance to try their cocktails, as I never stick around the area later than 3:30-4pm but maybe I will get to try an espresso martini at some point. The only downside is, it gets verrry busy! This is definitely a go to spot for coffee date, business meeting, or if you need a place to station yourself for the work day, but just know, you might struggle to find a table or seat. Found this place by reading an article on Philly area Coffee shops in the Philadelphia inquirer. Nice size shop for a coffee shop in a quaint plaza. Unique theme, whiskey and coffee. Menu is full of beverages, Espresso drinks, iced cocktails and cocktails. There are some pastries available but not much in the way of food. Staff were pleasant, sociable, attentive and made us feel right at home. The tables were all occupied probably with regulars but there was space at the counter. I enjoyed a specialty Latte with rosemary syrup and cranberry, asked them to tone it down so it would not be too sweet and I was delighted! My husband went for a cocktail because it was five o'clock somewhere; the cocktail of the week had hot honey whiskey, Blueberry syrup and lemon, delicious! There were so many other enticing items, we will likely return.
I am a regular at this café, and really enjoy being here. This time around I ordered the special drink that they had which contained butterfly pea. I love the color and the eyeball gummy because it was very festive for Halloween. This spot is my favorite in the area. My partner and I enjoy studying here together. The service is nice. They never miss!
Have you ever wanted a great place to hang? You know..."Your Place". Well... in Ardmore, I found my place! Imagine a smaller venue, with a chill vibe. A place to sit with friends, and a place to go when you hate them. A place that can re-awaken you up from a long night of crazy....or a place to help you continue that party. This is Char and Stave...and now you understand why this is my place. It starts with employees...and everyone was very helpful here. Julian is my favorite. Not only was he pleasant and knowledgeable, but he basically held my hand through my whiskey tasting, and it made a huge difference in my Char and Stave experience. He was able to help me select whiskeys based on my preferences and even had out of the box suggestions. His recommendations were so brilliant, that I ended up buying the whiskeys he chose for me! If you are unsure and can't understand why a cocktail or glass of whiskey is necessary at 9am in the morning...I cant help you. Just know that at some point, you may welcome the idea at an early brunch after a long night. Whatever your poison, coffee or cocktaiI, I encourage you to try this great place. Bring your food, buy a drink, and enjoy. If you have time, try a craft whiskey flight. I will be back to try more whiskey....see you in the morning...
First time in Ardmore and came here for an event. Lovely spot for events. I ordered the whiskey smash latte and it's incredible. Highly recommend and hope to be back soon.

They serve up the best cup of coffee in Ardmore, and probably the best cocktails as well! I really love this place. It's a fun little spot where you can hang out at any time of day, and their cocktails are just so creative. Their coffee is also never watered down and always hits the spot. Sometimes it's pricy, but you get what you pay for. Five out of five stars. read more
This place has been on my list since a while now. We stopped by here on a day trip to Ardmore from Philly. We ordered a couple of cocktails - they were both good taste & presentation wise. It was later in the day, so they had a half-off on pastries and they don't warm it up before serving. We got the Spinach & Feta pie, and it tasted horrible because it was so cold and dry. So, I would advise you against getting those half-off pastries unless you are taking them home and are able to warm them up before eating. Get the drinks though, they were good. read more

I've visited this location and the Germantown location before, so reviewing as a repeat customer. The coffee here is fantastic. Seating is relatively abundant, outlets slightly less so. Wi-fi is strangely frustrating to connect to, as the confirmation portal seems pretty latent. Led to some frustration, but once online, things were good to go here. The staff are upbeat and friendly-- just don't think I'll be attempting any long work sessions here in the future. read more

Glad I found this Coffee Bar, the vibe inside was pretty lively. Some people working and others enjoying alcoholic coffee beverages. I ordered the Nuts and Berry iced latte. It had blueberry syrup and walnut bitters in the drink. It was pretty good, a tad too sweet for me but really good coffee. Wish they had a few more pastry options. Overall, unique spot with an impressive beverage offerings. Definitely want to stop by again to try the espresso martini. read more

Love the concept of a place that serves both coffee and alcohol all day! This place has good vibes and pretty good music. Great for catching up with friends over coffee/drinks. I personally came here to study with some friends and I think this is a good place to study if you want to surround yourself with a more lively environment. Note that this place does fill up quickly; as soon as a table would leave, another group would come in and immediately take their spots! I like the fact that this place is open late, but the day I went they had an event in the evening so I had to leave by 5:15pm. I ordered the whiskey smash latte which was a little too bitter for my liking but it had this smokey taste which was really unique. They have a pretty extensive specialty latte menu so I would definitely come back to try more! read more
What a great find! I've been a fan of the coffee/brewery trend, but this is the first coffee/whiskey place I've visited. Wish I could transport it back home! The Tall Man and I went on a weekday afternoon and discovered a quiet place with low conversation and not too many laptops. It had a bit of a speakeasy vibe with all the hardwood and metal accents. We had our little one with us, which seemed ok for daytime but it was a quieter, more elevated atmosphere than your typical cafe so I would probably leave the baby at home for happy hour and after. I was most intrigued by their specialty lattes and non-alcoholic coffee- or tea-based cocktails. Kudos to them for offering many choices for the dry crowd. I got the Dirty Little 5-Spice latte with almond milk, which was a fragrant twist on a more typical holiday spiced latte. It was rather expensive pre-vegan milk surcharge, but pretty special as well. The Tall Man got the Rittenhouse Manhattan, which he enjoyed. He also got a pour of their sugar cane rum, in case it might be similar to rhum agricole (sugar cane rum we've tasted in Guadeloupe), but it was more run of the mill so next time he would stick to a cocktail or a whiskey instead. Service was cool and casual in a good way. I would definitely return to experience their nighttime vibe and try a different latte or mocktail. read more
This is our new go-to cafe since moving back to the area in March. The lattes here are incredible. My husband gets the barrel-aged espresso in his oat milk latte, which has a fun and funky taste - definitely worth a try. I stick to the regular espresso oat milk latte. We've been a few other coffee places, since moving back, and none of them compares to Char & Stave, in terms of quality. We often walk here from our apartment with our personal cups, but it's super nice to get a mug to stay when we have time to chill and people watch. The room has plenty of comfortable seating. A coffee shop open late at night??? What dreams are made of! The staff was incredibly kind! The menu is just drinks...but you can bring your own food! BYOF! There's plenty of seating and it gave me "19th century elevated bar" vibes. The Matcha "Mojito" was well crafted. It had fresh mint! I don't drink alcohol and was impressed by the dry options they have. Will definitely try to make this my late night hang out spot. I ducked in here to get some work done while my daughter finished her half a day at school. I was pleasantly surprised to find the entire cafe was filled with other people both young and old working diligently while drinking and eating pastries. I find this place to be extremely cute and quaint. I'm a be honest for $8 I didn't enjoy my drink. I will come back but next time I'll try something different. read more

We wanted to love it... This place was absolutely slammed the weekend we went. We stopped in about noon and a saturday and there was barely a standing table available. The drinks were great and the inside was cozy despite how busy it was. The server would have rather been ANYWHERE ELSE... She made that explicitly clear and then apologized. This is not an in-depth review as I didn't have time to hang around, but the vibe and the ambience was solid and the latte and almond croissant I got were delicious. The staff were super friendly and engaging. I plan on coming back to check out their cocktails and whiskey options as well as their selection of tea as I am primarily a tea drinker. read more
Needed some coffee in the burbs and found this cute little coffee shop/ whiskey bar. I love the concept and how they seamlessly blend them together. $7 for a whiskey smash latte was steep but they make their own syrups in house and it was a super unique drink. I highly recommend getting a speciality latte here but if you'd prefer a regular one that will run you the standard $4. Service was super helpful and the vibe of the shop was so warm and welcoming. So many people meeting up for chats and not people on laptops which was refreshing. The world needs more places like this! read more

I can't believe I haven't discovered this place sooner. I found it after getting my nails done at Labelle which is near them. I don't live in the area but visit my parents often. No more Starbucks, I'll be coming here. It's a great place to hang out and the coffee was so good. I'll be back for sure! read more
