Walking into Pilgrims brought back so much nostalgia. It's been a few years since I visited regularly (as a student & wfh employee) but it's easy to tell not much has changed. Pilgrims is still a solid coffee shop and it's ran by the same smiling face behind the counter. Overall this place has great coffee, pastries and a casual ambiance that's perfect for people to get some work done. They've continued to offer more food & drink options that include prepackaged grab & go snacks like granola bars or chocolate milk. They also sell their coffee beans and some other coffee & non coffee related nicknacks. As for my initial review, I'm happy to report my tastebuds have matured and I don't need a million sugary drink options to be satisfied with a coffee shop. Pilgrims does have a larger menu with the option to add flavor to just about anything now but I wouldn't come to pilgrims looking for an elaborate seasonal "designer" latte with toppings. They might make a seasonal drink but i don't think it'll have as much sugar as some other shops that sell diabetes in a cup read more

I wasn't a huge fan of Pilgrim Roasters. The coffee wasn't really to my taste and had an almost sour flavor. It's also a little pricey for what it is. On the plus side, the raisin pastry was pretty good, and the staff was very friendly and warm. The space is fairly small with limited seating, and there's a roaster on site, which gives the place a distinct atmosphere. Just keep in mind that there's no free parking, so plan accordingly. read more

We stopped by Pilgrim Roasters to get a caffeine fix, and we ordered: +an iced caffe latte with almond milk +and, an iced chai with whole milk The latte was just okay, but the chai was pretty tasty - had a bit of a kick! There was seating both in- and outside, but they weren't really tended to after each party; the restrooms were also pretty gross, so avoid! Service was friendly. My go-to in Manayunk is Volo Coffeehouse. This is probably going to be a strong contender moving forward. Came in this morning and just had a nice drip. Got it in a diner mug-- love drinking coffee at coffee shops in a mug. It just makes the coffee taste better, and I'm not sure how. This feels like a talking and catching up-priority coffee shop. Tables are a bit smaller, and the chairs not as comfy for long term sitting. However, the wi-fi remains strong, and it was good enough for 2 hours of work. I also had an outlet nearby ready, but didn't end up having to use it today. Coffee is great too! I love places that roast on-house and have their own beans, b/c you know that they care an extra bit more about the quality of their stuff. Will be back! read more

Excellent small place with a few tables that can sit up to 2-4 at a time. Their drip coffee is strong and nutty. Bakery products are sold pretty quickly before noon. If you're gonna drink coffee in Manayunk, this is where you'll want to come. Pilgrim is the real deal. They roast the coffee on location in back and they know the coffee they sell. They don't don't sell other people's coffee. And they'll prepare it for you in several different ways. The person behind the counter was wonderful and she helped me select the bean that I asked her to brew as a pour over. Wow. And they'll sell you whole beans, that's not so easy to find. This is the best coffee shop in the area. Quick, reasonable, amazing coffee, what more could you want? The seating area is on the smaller side but most people get coffees to go so seating wasn't a problem. One thing lacking here is the pastries/food which I think they could improve on. read more

There's plenty of seating and I would recommend working from here as it doesn't seem noisy. Since it's at the end of Main Street, there's a good amount of available street parking. The prices on the menu are not up to date with what they charge you even though the menu is written in chalk. I got an Americano which was way too watered down! read more

Disclaimer: I can't comment on the coffee as I don't drink coffee and lately have turned to drinking tea. This place has a really great ambience. I liked the working air conditioner during peak high temps and also the spaciousness. The wi-fi was strong and working. The barista was very friendly and my tea and muffin were great. I will say that it was bit pricey for a small chamomile tea and a muffin, in total it ran me close to $8. Also while I did find an accommodating seat inside-- most of the chairs are narrowed and not the best for those of us with wider hips leaving you with very few seating options if you want to stick around and hang out indoors. We just moved to the neighborhood, which is a stressful experience, capped by the question of where, oh where, to find great coffee. I've been spoiled the last many years by a coffee shop in my old neighborhood, run by a truly brilliant roaster who's become a good friend. I'm addicted to the espressos they make at his shop, and have resigned myself to paying nearly $30/lb for his beans, because they're that good. So I asked for recommendations on the Manayunk FB group, and someone led me here. Thank you, kind stranger. Pilgrim is exactly my kind of place. They cater to a broader audience that likes their milk drinks, but don't turn their back on us espressoheads who like it simple. They understand the beauty of a light-roasted single-origin bean handled with care from the farm to your belly. The two espressos I've had so far were in the same league as my beloved old shop. As a bonus, the barista was friendly and knowledgable, and the space is open and inviting. I like that the roastery is right on the premises, in the background, looking cool. Complaints? The beans are freakin' expensive. Even more expensive than the ones at my old haunt, and that's in Brooklyn, where a parking space costs as much as a Philly house. But you should know that I'm shaking my fist not at Pilgrim, but at the world economy and climate change. Coffee is only going to get more expensive. I'm starting to think of it as a luxury product, not as a daily fuel. Which is sad ... I'd like to drink Pilgrim's coffee every day. This place makes and brews their own coffee and you can tell by the quality that they invest a lot of time and effort into it. I got hooked on their coffee while studying for an exam there and now purchase their coffee beans for my own home brewing. I do wish they had more food options but I don't mind that the focus is more on the coffee. I've come here a few times now and tried everything from their lattes to their iced coffees. Their drip coffee is definitely meticulously made and thus, the result is perfection. With coffee beans roasted in house, their lattes and cappuccinos are also simple yet delicious. My only dislike about this place is their iced coffee - it is unbearably sour and acidic. I normally drink my coffee black but it is just not possible to drink their iced coffee black because it straight up tastes like the Asian herbal medicine I had to drink growing up while my aunt was becoming an acupuncturist. My favorite coffee shop! The latte is so simple but to die for! I regularly purchase a bag of coffee (Ecuador ones are my fav!) Which they grind for me. You also get a free beverage with the purchase of a bag of coffee! The cinnamon rolls are also FANTASTIC, maple flavored with the flakiness of a croissant. Best I've ever had! What makes Their coffee so unique and flavorful is that they follow the Scandinavian roasting profile for their coffee. I've been to Pilgrim Roasters a handful of times since they've opened and so far I've been happy with everything I've tried. The caffe mocha is my favorite drink here. It's very smooth - never a trace of bitterness, and no need to add any additional sweetener. Lovely art on top as well. My boyfriend who is more of the coffee aficionado always goes for their drip coffee and gives it high praise. A quirk to note: all milk-based drinks I've gotten have been served at a cooler temperature than I'm used to from other coffee houses. Not necessarily a bad thing (you can take a sip right away without burning your tongue) but just a note because your drink will become cold quicker if you don't drink it semi-speedily. Service has been great every time I've been there. The staff is knowledgeable, but not condescending. Especially because I'm mainly a tea-drinker, I appreciate the wisdom they pass on to customers and the manner in which they do it. Great location along Main Street in Manayunk. Only a few feet away from the brewery. I've never been a cappuccino drinker, but my friends have been egging me on to give them a try, and I was recently told that if I'm going to do it, I should do it right. Pilgrim Roasters was the place multiple friends told me to try for an amazing one, and....it did not disappoint! I loved it, it was very tasty and light. And within ten minutes, I was on a caffeine jolt I never felt before! I thought it was priced fair and the guy working there was very nice and pleasant to talk to. I also like that everything comes in one standard size. None of that weird sizing name system nonsense that I can never remember like at other places. I firmly believe that the coffee you get here is top of its class. These guys buy raw coffee beans and roast the beans on site, and they allow the roasts to settle and evolve. This work of mastery results in a cup of espresso filled with complexities and multitudes of flavor profiles, while simultaneously delicate in its own right. The simple, yet not so simple, cup of espresso here gives me so much joy -- more than words can describe. The lattes and mochas are all phenomenally tasty -- so much so that I come back day after day, and even miss it when I'm away. I think there's a lot of mediocre coffee. I think what the guys do here with coffee clearly separate themselves from the masses. Very cool they roast their own beans in house, can see the equipment in the additional space. Free WiFi and great place to get work done, not too noisy with low key music. 8oz coffee was a bit Waterdown and overpriced, instead adding creamer that Pilgrim didnt have (normally free any where else), they suggested adding honey/cinnamon without disclosing any additional charge($1.50!), then I asked for just pure 2 pure 10oz Columbian (non flavored) whole bean and attendant suggested the only Colombian they had was fancy named 'Marisela Shanchez Geisha' Columbian and my bill was $60.00!! Wow, I'm definitely not a coffee snob, I just like a good latte every once in awhile. I usually need a bit of sugar in mine to get it down but their latte was so smooth and delicious (even with skim milk) as is that I wouldn't dare adding anything to it. Such a nice and open design shop. The barista asked if it was my first visit (just moved here) and he welcomed me to the neighborhood. Love a good coffee shop. It's sometimes hard to get parking on Main Street but if you're in the area, don't hesitate to stop in. They have all the basics you need for a good cup of coffee or a latte or whatever. A few light snacks to go along with it but it's a great shop. The atmosphere is really cool. It's small and quaint but it's cute. Great meet up spot for a small group and they have two small, two person tables outside if you want to catch some fresh air or people watch. The guys at the counter are also so nice. I drink almond milk so my milk design didn't come out as planned but they still tried. I'll definitely stop back in when I'm around. read more

Have you ever taken that first sip of your coffee and it brought a tear to your eye? I'm having an emotional connection to my drink, compliments of Robert's barista skills. I requested an iced oat milk mocha but I only wanted to barely taste the essence of the mocha & Robert nailed it. He melted the mocha with my espresso shots and slowly and carefully poured it over my oat milk and ice so they could become a beautiful masterpiece of flavors.
