What an interesting little store. If a store was an English muffin: Amirite amirite? I ended up at this store because my friend has fond memories of going as a child. Beware, there's a lot going on. There's bulk spices, bulk candy, bulk trail mix, a WIDE selection of bulk coffee. There are cookie decorating supplies, a plethora of hot sauces, regular sauces, dried fruits, nuts, and the list could continue on and on. Flours, spices, chips. There's a little coffee bar. They have a bathroom. The aisles are narrow, fitting two people down them would only happen in the event that one of those people was flat Stanley. Things I left the store with: 1 pound of wasabi cracker mix 2 pounds of coffee 1 bottle of Crystal brand steak sauce (never seen it before, had to try it) 1 jar of Better Than Bullion mushroom soup base and 1 pound of trail mix It's basically like a store to fill your pantry and I'm quite jealous that we don't have anything like it in the DC area. read more

We went to the location in Ardmore, the inside is a bit small but you'll forget that it's small when you see the items on the shelves. I suggest leaving the pocketbook in the car; bring a small wallet or wear a cross body bag. You want your hands free anyway because you'll feel like a kid again, seeing all the sweets and not knowing what to choose, because you want everything. The shelves were neatly stacked and there are signs all over the store, there is no question about the item you are looking at. Don't be alarmed by the sizes of the jars; just bring the container to the cashier or call one over if the container is stationary; they will bag and weigh the item for you. If you have doubts about liking an item such as a chocolate covered sweet, just ask for a tasting and they'll give you a sample. We got a few bags of chocolate, chocolate covered banana chips, trail mix and cinnamon flavored pancake mix. Though I found the pancake mix a bit too sweet for my palate and I prefer banana chips without the chocolate, everything was delicious. That said, the next time you think of getting any of the afore mentioned items and want a variety, visit the HEADNUT. read more

Starting with the owner this place has the rudest customer service and dishonest employees. They have the most absurd rules such as: forbidding customers to browse in the back coffee room, demanding that you stand in line and then confusing who is first in line, picking up fights with customers first standing in line, or not standing in line, not giving discounts promised, forcing customers to use cash in order to avoid credit card fees which the establishment ruthlessly passes on to customers despite their high business volume and cheating on the scale when you buy bulk. This is my go to spot for nuts baking goods and dried fruit. They also have a huge comprehensive amount of packaged and loose tea. The store can be cramped during the holiday periods. A nice coffee bar sits on one side of the store and a good sized parking lot is next to the rear entrance. If you need to find a hard to locate spices they will have it here. You can also get pasta, hot sauces , mustards and honey. Prices can be on the high side but the quality is good and it is definitely one stop shopping. read more

If you need ANYTHING, the head nut has it and more. I've been coming here for a few years and find something new each time. Their pricing is incredible value and their items are super unique. I consistently keep coming back to try new coffee flavors and see what other new goodies they have. The staff is always very knowledgeable and super helpful. I do wish they would bring back being able to bring your own containers to cut down on waste but I completely understand why they haven't just yet. Buyer Beware! The sign on the door says Economy and Quality. The quality may be fine but the pricces are very high. If you can find the product you are looking for elsewhere, you are guaranteed to save 50-60%. Worse still is their return policy. Basically they don't allow returns. I putchased an item for a holiday gift and it turned out to be the wrong item. I went back in the new year to return it. The clerk said all returns must be made in 24 hours. Who ever heard of that. I asked where it said that, since it was not on the receipt or by the register. I was taken into the back area and shown a sign on the wall which stated "Quality claims must be made within 24 hours". This doesn't even sound like a return policy, it sounds more specific, but still is incredibly restrictive. I have never seen any sort of store with this unfriendly a return policy. In the future I will be shopping elsewhere and getting the same quality, with much better economy and customer service. read more

I was searching all over for Moroccan Mint Tea for my mother. I ended up finding it here. It's a small business. It gets crowded. They hire teenagers to work, who are helpful but make mistakes sometimes. The price could be higher but compare to some other places, it's very decent. I'm not taking off any points for these. We have a communal junk bowl in my office. One day a couple months ago, my boss walked by and plopped some chocolate bars from the Head Nut into it. "The Head Nut?" I later asked -- out of earshot of my boss. One of my coworkers who lives on the Main Line laughingly chimed in that, yes, that is the name of the place. Okay then. Time to make a visit to this Head Nut place, I thought. Who calls themselves that? Apparently a place that brims with every kind of nut, chocolate, spice, etc., that you could possibly want -- for cheap. The location itself was easy for this Jersey girl to find with minimal directions, but once inside, it was a total maze of labeled containers. A bin of milk chocolate covered peanuts caught my eye, so following the actions of other patrons, I picked it up and carried it over to the line. After a bit of a wait, I put it down, the cashier measured out a pound, and ordered me to return the bin to its location. Easy, except all of the people blocking the way! Still, I opted to see the task as part of one big nutty adventure and returned it successfully. Chocolate candy-coated rocks also caught my eye at the last minute, and since they were actually already sitting at the check out, I got a pound of those, too. Also picked up a bag of gourmet popcorn. Can't rave enough about all of the items purchased! You have to have patience to shop here, and I don't think I could stop in regularly since I only own a fraction of that stuff. But still, it's an experience, and you reap the rewards of your labor: quality goods for incredibly cheap! read more

Oh man is this place cool! What you have is this old building with narrow narrow aisles selling every kind of nut, spice, coffee bean, trail mix, and candy all in bulk. You won't believe the fragrance when you walk in the door. You want 1 oz. of black peppercorns. No problem. The next person wants 5 lbs. of black walnuts. Also not a problem. Having a serious jones for gummy bears. Ask for 6 lbs. and the clerk won't even blink. Because almost everything is sold in bulk checking out is a bit of a process. Your purchases need to be weighed and bagged. Expect to spend a few minutes in line at the register. It will be worth it as the prices are great. This place also has a coffee bar so if you're smart you can be sipping a latte while you shop. There is something in this shop that is irresistible to everyone that walks in. It's virtually impossible to stop by and not buy something. The wife and I were in this afternoon and it was a madhouse with folks buying snacks for the Super Bowl. Been living in Havertown now for 5 years and I finally stopped in. WOW WOW WOW. So many treats and delights - all flavors of hard candy, chocolate covered anything, spices, grains , coffee, exotic teas, all shapes and flavors of gummies, hot sauces. its amazing how many items they have to choose from in that house. I have to come back and spend an hour browsing the store. I bought some bulk hard candies - quality brands and cool flavors such as root beer float. Also bought the Cajun snack mix that had a variety of rice crackers, sticks and nuts that had the most awesome Cajun spice flavor. Tried the Jasmine tea and was very fresh and flavorful. Had to stop myself form buying more goodies! You pick out the jar and the store clerks serve and weigh the items. The clerks were was friendly and helpful. Staff are very nice and accommodating. One of the ladies took time to help me pick out a ginger tea for the first time for my mom, and explain how to make it correctly -- and my mom now loves the tea. I want to support our local businesses during the pandemic, I really do. I especially feel for the workers of the world who need their jobs in places like this. But I also have a responsibility as a citizen and healthcare worker to stop the spread of this virus. The main thing asked of those of us working in "essential" services like the head nut is that we wear masks covering our mouth and nose. Not to protect us (hand washing is better at that) but to prevent the further spread of this horrific virus. So, I went to the head nut today to stock up. Politely reminded the Oman who was hovering over open foodstuffs that without face covering, it's an exposure risk to our community. The response was a nasty "I have to breathe too!" I then noticed none of the staff had masks on properly. If I'm the highly likely scenario that one of them is a carrier, the head nut is just another exposure point selfishly killing vulnerable people. I want to support respectful businesses that care about its community. Clearly, the head nut should be avoided due to unsafe food handling practices. read more

I love coming here for my grains, nuts, and snacking needs! The prices are great and the quality and sheer variety are unsurpassed. Toasted Israeli couscous for a tabouleh salad at $3.99/lb? Yes please! They also have Himalayan red rice, which I haven't been able to find anywhere else in the area. It's great for making my 8 Treasures rice pudding. The almond meal is my essential for making light, smooth French macaroons; I haven't been able to get the same quality with Bob's Red Mill variety. The asiago cheese sticks are a must-try if you, like me, are a cheese aficionado. They are flaky, flavorful, crunchy, and light. They also have dried star fruit, yogurt-covered animal crackers, and chocolate covered soybeans, all of which are my must-haves for the long drive to and from work everyday. I could just go on and on but I'll let you stop in and see for yourself. One last note: If you have a hectic schedule and not a lot of time to cook, try one of the dried soup mixes. I usually don't like soup-in-a-bag but the white bean chili and gumbo are pretty good. I just add some chopped chicken breast (and shrimp to the gumbo) and you have a tasty meal in minutes. It's a neat store with a wide variety of products, but always remember to check the prices before you buy. I saw a large stack of Hot Chocolate flavor Hershey Kisses in their original 8oz package selling for - no joke - $12.99. I asked two different staff members if it was a mistake and neither of them knew. I can't imagine a product that retails for about 4 dollars everywhere else would be sold for more than three times the price without it being an oversight. This is a review of Head Nut's extremely poor customer service and treatment of their employees, not the products they sell in the store. Head Nut has been our #1 place to buy flavored coffees for some time; they are better than any other we have found. In fact, our kids moved from Havertown to Ohio last year, and they still ask us to drive an hour from where we live so we can get them Head Nut coffee every visit. Our most recent experience, however, makes us question whether or not we will ever do business with them again. Even though we don't agree with the store's coffee discount policy, we don't question it. This discount policy is such that there is a discount on 3 lbs of the same flavor coffee, but only if the 3 lbs is in the same bag. If we need 4 pounds of the same flavor (2 lbs in bean form and 2 lbs ground), the 3 lb discount does not apply because the beans and the ground coffee have to be packaged in separate bags. We would be willing to pay a small fee for an extra bag to get the discounted coffee price, but that is not an option. Since we are familiar with this policy and buy large quantities of coffee at a time (but not in 3 lb increments of the same flavor and form), we try to go on Tuesdays because there is a 10% senior discount. This past Tuesday, my husband and I drove an hour to go to the Ardmore store for 9 lbs of coffee. After fighting rain and traffic, we arrived at the store at approximately 5:40. We were almost the only customers in the store at that time, and there was plenty of sales help. A young girl helped with our coffee order, which totaled $100.50. Because I knew we didn't qualify for the "3 lb in the same bag" discount, I asked her about the Tuesday senior discount. She told me it ended at 5:00 PM and it was now after 5. I asked if there was a manager she could check with about it and she simply said "yes" but didn't follow through. At that point, my husband left the coffee room and spoke with the person behind the cash register, who told him the "3 lb" discount would be better than the senior discount. After explaining why our 9 lb of coffee didn't qualify for the "3 lb" discount, this worker gave the same answer - the senior discount ended at 5; end of discussion. My husband then asked if there was a manager available and was directed toward the doorway that led to another part of the store. My husband went into that part of the store and again asked for a manager. A worker took him to a young man in a small office, who again tried to tell him the "3 lb" discount would be better. When my husband explained to him why our order didn't qualify for that discount, this manager walked him back to the coffee area. After understanding that we were buying 9 lbs of various flavors of beans and ground coffee, and that we drove for an hour to get there, he agreed to be flexible this time and give us the 10% senior discount. Our bill then came to $90.45 and we gave him our credit card. As he was processing our payment, a woman appeared out of nowhere and started yelling that we weren't entitled to 2 discounts. The manager explained to her he only gave us the 10% senior discount and she continued to yell, saying we weren't entitled to any discount. She then told the manager, who was in the middle of our credit card transaction, that he would have to explain his discount decision to "HIM", whoever 'him' was. At that point, the manager left us standing there and followed the rude woman out of the room. The young girl who got us our coffee finished our credit card transaction and we left. At that point we actually felt sorry for the poor manager who had to follow the rude woman and explain to a probably even ruder "HIM" in the back room why he decided to be flexible and provide good customer service to a loyal senior couple who drove over an hour in the rain to buy $100 worth of coffee from their store! We are unlikely to return. read more

The Head Nut is unlike any other place. You have to plan your attack here, as the store is set up in a chain of rooms that are stuffed from top to bottom with every type of nut, candy, or canned thing possible. Their dark chocolate almond bark is to die for, and they have some interesting trail mixes as well. I'll be the first to admit, The Head Nut be a little overwhelming because there is just SO much to look at. You can definitely run in and out, but this isn't Di Bruno Bros, so don't expect the employees to help you too much or offer free samples. All the cashiers that I have seen have been teenagers who are there to get the job done and get out, but are perfectly friendly while doing so. The hours can be a little funny, so make sure you call ahead before making the trip. Happy searching! read more

We have been going to the Head Nut for many years. They have a great selection of nuts, candies, teas spices and coffee. Now they aren't cheap, but most things are very fresh and high quality. I'm not sure I can recommend the coffee beans, it seems that some sit the bins for a long time, lose volatile oils, and become stale. The more popular beans seem to turnover enough that they are fine, but some less popular varieties seem to linger and grow old, but aren't replaced. The bins used don't do much to preserve the quality of the beans. read more

This is definitely the place to go for your next FIELD DAY!!!!!! Towers and columns and rows upon rows of pretty much everything there is as far as dry goods go. Want a chocolate covered pretzel? They have white chocolate, cherry chocolate, cherry yogurt, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, lactose free chocolate, and kosher chocolate covered pretzels. The variety of hot sauces is RIDICULOUS. I had a good laugh at one called "Smack my ass and call me Sally" hot sauce. It'll make a great gift for a friend with a sense of humor. The employees are rude and request that you take the containers back to designated spots after they measure your coffee for example. Really, I did not know I was on the payroll.
