I was looking for coffee around 6:00 p.m. and I'm so glad they open till 7:00 p.m. I believe and they have really nice atmosphere in the dark with lit up. . At first I was going to go with their latte but then I changed to their frozen coffee which has cold brew and oatmeal and it was really refreshing. I love drinking a frozen drink even if it's winter time because it's just so cozy drinking and then warm interior Cafe. . I love how the theme is lawn chairs so there is plenty of them outside where you can sit out during the daytime even during night time too. . The interior is like inside a garage with garage door and they have a little mini market inside that sells Wine and Booze. There is also tables that are red and red chairs inside the garage where you can sit and enjoy some picnic charcuterie board or the little snacks they sell inside along with coffee. . For the parking it is a little bit hard it is busy and there is tight parking outside but I had found a free parking spot right across the street. . Overall I am a fan of this coffee shop in Philadelphia and next time when I come back I will try there latte and their espresso. Herman's is serving really really high quality coffee alongside Al Fornil's always delicious pastries. They were also serving some pastries from Kouklet, a Brazilian bake house in East Passyunk, so I had to try one of their traditional sourdough donuts, which was awesome. They also have a huge selection of beer, wine, and other market items that I would love to come back to try. There's a great seating area both in and outside. Can't go wrong here! read more

I wanted to love this place so much. Not that I didn't like it, but I didn't love it. Searched while on a little Philly trip any coffee houses that are dog-friendly. This place had raving reviews about it, so we were excited to check it out. However, upon walking in, it was evident the place isn't very SEATING-friendly. There were only a few chairs at a long high top table. And a few were taken up by seemingly an employee or someone who was doing some inventory in the store. Because YES, it's Herman's Coffee & MARKET. I perused the different gourmet food items - chocolates, ice cream, jams, oils, chutneys, beef tallows, even cool homemade soaps and candles. I enjoyed the selection, though a bit on the pricey side. Hubby ended up getting a juice (bottled, not fresh squealed), and I had a Cafe au Lait. I also got a little sweet treat (small chocolate). Everything was pretty good. The wait for the cafe au lait was a bit long but they had a few patrons in there, so it was somewhat understandable. The ambiance is what I can only refer to as FUNKY. You can tell the place is laid out in a former car garage, with the rolled up doors and everything. The ceilings are high, with no or little insulation and the floors are concrete with (what I only mustered 2 seconds to see and had to quickly look away in terror) unfortunately a spotted rodent box, so that wasn't too pleasant to see. Would I go again? Maybe on a warmer sunny day and sit outside with my dog. read more

We visited Herman's Coffee shop on a Sunday scene, and hour before closing. The place was interesting, had music playing loud and they were selling local stuff. They have a huge local selection which i was very impressed with. Plus flyers to local events and much more. I was happy to see all local at one place. But I had come for a coffee so I ordered one and was not very impressed. I had their ginwr flavored latte which was not hot and missed ginger flavor. So I had to request and extra shot of ginger syrup which they happily added but that made my coffee even colder. Wife ordered another latte which was better than mine but not great. So coffee unfortunately missed the mark. Another thing is that to use the restrooms you have to exit and go back of the shop. Not a big deal but just very inconvenient. I have heard that the place has a big gan following do I will come back to try their coffee again. I think it might have been just bad timing. But I do recommend their shop to encourage buy local. read more

I had been wanting to try Herman's for the longest time but was thoroughly underwhelmed when I finally visited. I stopped in around 8:30am on a Sunday and there was already a steady line of people. It took about 15-20 minutes from the time I arrived until I received my drink. I ordered the espresso shandy, and it was just okay. The espresso was overly bitter and watered down, and I could barely taste the citrus. (Later that same day, I found a much better version of the same drink at Mr. Rabbit in Center City, which I would highly recommend). The service wasn't the best either. After I ordered I asked the worker where the bathroom was, and she gave me the key and said "the red door outside." The only red door turned out to be a utility closet. I walked around the building, confused, a few times until another customer told me it was the gray door, which was practically blocked by Herman's outdoor seating. When I came back to the counter to return the key, the same worker condescendingly told me "you can put it back where you got it from" and turned away, as if she hadn't just handed the key to me a few minutes earlier. After a few moments of confusion, a different worker finally took the key from me. I don't think I'll be coming back, given how many other great coffee shops there are in Philadelphia. read more

I have heard great things about Herman's and finally got the chance to try them out. Got the Nutella and Vietnamese iced lattes. Unfortunately our experience was quite mediocre, both lattes were very watered down. The Vietnamese latte had strong notes of cinnamon and seem to have little to none condensed milk - it wasn't strong too so I am not sure what part of it was inspired by Vietnamese iced coffee. The Nutella latte didn't taste of Nutella/Hazelnut at all, it was settled at the bottom of the cup and didn't seem to mix well with the iced drink. Maybe if they had prepared it hot first and then added ice it could've mixed and tasted better. They do have a nice store with things like mocktails, lil pop shop popsicles, manoa chocolates and some more higher end chocolate bars with very exotic flavor combinations so that is definitely worth checking out. read more

Herman's Coffee is such a unique and fun local coffee shop! Their coffee is smooth and brewed perfectly. I tried their beignets and the custard inside was dense and creamy. I would order it again. I also ordered their Vietnamese latte which is their take on a Vietnamese coffee. It has sweeter condensed milk along with star anise, cinnamon, and basil flavor. I thought it had a strong star anise flavor but my husband really loved the latte. The employee was able to give us a good description of the latte as well before we ordered it. Herman's is a cute little coffee shop in Pennsport. When I was staying with my friend who lives in the neighborhood we stopped here a few times while walking his dog, and I enjoyed coming here every time. The coffee is delicious and the baristas are super nice. I recommend grabbing a cup of frozen coffee. On one of my visits, the barista suggested that I get the rim of my cup drizzled in chocolate which was such a nice touch. In addition to selling delicious coffee, Herman's also features pop-up shops, food trucks, and other vendors. I got some fab donuts from Kouklet Brazillian Bakehouse one time, and they were to die for and paired perfectly with my coffee. If you're in Pennsport walk on by and stop by Herman's Coffee. Can't believe it took me so long to try this place! I stopped by to get a pastry and coffee on a Saturday morning. It was busy but I didn't have to wait too long. Plus, waiting for my drink to be made gave me an opportunity to check out all of the neat goods they sell (hot sauce, cookies, ice cream, etc.) The merchandise is also great - fanny packs, baseball caps, mugs, and more, all branded with a lawn chair on them. I don't know that it's the business's fault, or if it's just civilization being overrun by lazy, sleepyhead 35-year-old adolescents who are absolutely unwilling and/or unable to work at any pace that requires any slight effort whatsoever. It's not like this outside of major cities though. I suspect it's just a symptom of Philadelphia's complete collapse. Might as well be LA or Brooklyn now... No place left for adults to go. Everyone just drags their dogs and their gaggle of children everywhere they go, forcing them on top of everybody else. It would be nice to have a coffee in the morning without feeling like I'm at a preschool playground and an absurd​ dog park simultaneously crammed into a 600 square foot building. Small businesses run by hipsters are really stupid terrible. I hope everyone stops supporting them soon and actual good service and ambience are once again required for a business to succeed. But the bar has been lowered so dramatically, I don't have much hope for that happening anytime soon. read more

It took every bit of self control to not buy armfulls of goodies from their market. Hot sauces, beef jerky, and specialty cooking seasoning and sauces. The iced latte I ordered was delicious and absolutely something to write home about! A good espresso coffee with not-to-much flavored syrup as to not overpower the flavor. I sat in one of their iconic red folding lawnchairs outside the shop to sip my coffee and relax, and it was such a nice environment to be in. The place was busy and bustling too with a steady stream of customers coming in. If i didn't know from my own experience that this was the place to be, then the number of folks walking up to the shop or driving up was a sure sign. read more

They have a creative coffee menu - their standard drip is delicious, but if you are feeling adventurous, I would recommend trying their espresso tonic! It had bitters, tonic, and grapefruit - really refreshing. They have a ton of unique gets in their store, from a variety of cheese & meats, to non-alcoholic spirits, bloody mary mix, and more! This would be an ideal store in preparation for a party or if you just wanted to stock your house. We enjoyed some pastries they had in house, but loved our meal from the Moshava food truck. They have a packed brunch menu, where you could literally close your eyes and point & land on an item you wouldn't regret. They of course have their lawn chair seating all around the shop. I've been coming here a lot recently because I've been supporting a friend who sells bagels here on Fridays. So I've gotten to know their coffee. It's a high quality brew for sure. Recently i tried their Vietnamese brew and enjoyed it highly. And I do enjoy the funky selection of foods on the side that they carry. I've never had a complaint on their coffee or their service. Every now and then they don't have something I want that's on the menu. There are various reasons for that I am sure, especially in this day and age. It was good, but I realize that I should have tried their regular coffee on my first visit. Husband got a "cocktail" with sparkling water and grapefruit. Decent coffee. I mean the aroma of the black coffee and my decaf espresso was damn amazing. I don't know why we haven't checked this coffee place out sooner! I def love how they offer so many other things from small bakeries too, not to mention fresh bread. I love that there's plenty of easy parking (well, we are here on a weekday at 11am lol) and there's plenty of seating outside! The best coffee I've had in Philly since moving here from Seattle, where great coffee is literally on every corner bc there is no other way to cope with the eternal lack of sunlight. Shots were pulled well and full bodied, not over or under extracted, and the milk both times I've been is texturized finely with nice uniform micro foam. A lot of the other places I've been to both burn the milk and are sloppy with the wand so that the microfoam has enormous bubbles and/or lacks uniformity, so this has been a nice surprise. They have a well curated selection of gourmet goods to browse, including a great collection of tinned fish if you want to do conservas at home. read more
