Herman's is serving really really high quality coffee alongside Al Fornil's always delicious pastries. They were also serving some pastries from Kouklet, a Brazilian bake house in East Passyunk, so I had to try one of their traditional sourdough donuts, which was awesome. They also have a huge selection of beer, wine, and other market items that I would love to come back to try. There's a great seating area both in and outside. Can't go wrong here!
I wanted to love this place so much. Not that I didn't like it, but I didn't love it. Searched while on a little Philly trip any coffee houses that are dog-friendly. This place had raving reviews about it, so we were excited to check it out. However, upon walking in, it was evident the place isn't very SEATING-friendly. There were only a few chairs at a long high top table. And a few were taken up by seemingly an employee or someone who was doing some inventory in the store. Because YES, it's Herman's Coffee & MARKET. I perused the different gourmet food items - chocolates, ice cream, jams, oils, chutneys, beef tallows, even cool homemade soaps and candles. I enjoyed the selection, though a bit on the pricey side. Hubby ended up getting a juice (bottled, not fresh squealed), and I had a Cafe au Lait. I also got a little sweet treat (small chocolate). Everything was pretty good. The wait for the cafe au lait was a bit long but they had a few patrons in there, so it was somewhat understandable. The ambiance is what I can only refer to as FUNKY. You can tell the place is laid out in a former car garage, with the rolled up doors and everything. The ceilings are high, with no or little insulation and the floors are concrete with (what I only mustered 2 seconds to see and had to quickly look away in terror) unfortunately a spotted rodent box, so that wasn't too pleasant to see. Would I go again? Maybe on a warmer sunny day and sit outside with my dog.
We visited Herman's Coffee shop on a Sunday scene, and hour before closing. The place was interesting, had music playing loud and they were selling local stuff. They have a huge local selection which i was very impressed with. Plus flyers to local events and much more. I was happy to see all local at one place. But I had come for a coffee so I ordered one and was not very impressed. I had their ginwr flavored latte which was not hot and missed ginger flavor. So I had to request and extra shot of ginger syrup which they happily added but that made my coffee even colder. Wife ordered another latte which was better than mine but not great. So coffee unfortunately missed the mark. Another thing is that to use the restrooms you have to exit and go back of the shop. Not a big deal but just very inconvenient. I have heard that the place has a big gan following do I will come back to try their coffee again. I think it might have been just bad timing. But I do recommend their shop to encourage buy local.
I had been wanting to try Herman's for the longest time but was thoroughly underwhelmed when I finally visited. I stopped in around 8:30am on a Sunday and there was already a steady line of people. It took about 15-20 minutes from the time I arrived until I received my drink. I ordered the espresso shandy, and it was just okay. The espresso was overly bitter and watered down, and I could barely taste the citrus. (Later that same day, I found a much better version of the same drink at Mr. Rabbit in Center City, which I would highly recommend). The service wasn't the best either. After I ordered I asked the worker where the bathroom was, and she gave me the key and said "the red door outside." The only red door turned out to be a utility closet. I walked around the building, confused, a few times until another customer told me it was the gray door, which was practically blocked by Herman's outdoor seating. When I came back to the counter to return the key, the same worker condescendingly told me "you can put it back where you got it from" and turned away, as if she hadn't just handed the key to me a few minutes earlier. After a few moments of confusion, a different worker finally took the key from me. I don't think I'll be coming back, given how many other great coffee shops there are in Philadelphia.
I have heard great things about Herman's and finally got the chance to try them out. Got the Nutella and Vietnamese iced lattes. Unfortunately our experience was quite mediocre, both lattes were very watered down. The Vietnamese latte had strong notes of cinnamon and seem to have little to none condensed milk - it wasn't strong too so I am not sure what part of it was inspired by Vietnamese iced coffee. The Nutella latte didn't taste of Nutella/Hazelnut at all, it was settled at the bottom of the cup and didn't seem to mix well with the iced drink. Maybe if they had prepared it hot first and then added ice it could've mixed and tasted better. They do have a nice store with things like mocktails, lil pop shop popsicles, manoa chocolates and some more higher end chocolate bars with very exotic flavor combinations so that is definitely worth checking out.
The best latte I've had in awhile. I got the cookie butter latte and it was so smooth and creamy. The espresso was perfectly pulled. They really perfected their craft at Herman's.
What a cool spot! After ordering your drink (which can be anything from coffee, coffee mocktails, teas, matcha lemonade, or their seasonal menu), you can peruse their awesome assortment of specialty foods - from tinned fish (and ceramics!), tons of chili oil, sauces, jams and fruit curds, various chocolates, to mixers, mocktails, no alcohol liquors, and interesting bitters. Would love to come again when it's warmer to enjoy the cute outdoor seating!
First time stopping in. Had a coffee date with the girls. We definitely plan on coming back. Service was good, comfortable environment and very accommodating
Herman's Coffee is such a unique and fun local coffee shop! Their coffee is smooth and brewed perfectly. I tried their beignets and the custard inside was dense and creamy. I would order it again. I also ordered their Vietnamese latte which is their take on a Vietnamese coffee. It has sweeter condensed milk along with star anise, cinnamon, and basil flavor. I thought it had a strong star anise flavor but my husband really loved the latte. The employee was able to give us a good description of the latte as well before we ordered it. Herman's is also a market. I saw people Nitin some tinned fish and crackers to go along with their coffee. They sell boutique alcohol and snacks. Herman's is a staple to the community!
This coffee shop is quite popular. Especially because there's always pop up events including some food trucks and my favorite pretzels: Pretzel Day Pretzels. They also have some merchandise such as mocktails, drink mixes, Milk Jawn ice cream, and frozen MomMom Pierogies. I was lucky to get the last of the cheesesteak pierogie. I had decaf cappuccino. It was pretty good.
Delicious cold brew and really nice baristas. There's so many great options for drinks and this is also the perfect place to stop by to stock up for a picnic. You could sit in here and do work, but the seating is more for a little chat versus a long haul work day. This shop is in a garage in a good way. Great philly spot with awesome coffee. Silly chairs outside they're very low and the tables are very high but it's fun that way
I love this coffee store. This is a very unique store. It has an array of unique food items for purchase. If you love chocolate they literally have hundreds of different unique chocolate bars for sale here. The coffee is amazing too. I had a great Cortado here. The flavor and presentation was good. Outside was a local resident selling his homemade ceramic wear. What a nice guy. I purchased 2 beautiful black and tan ceramic mugs. I love supporting local and the mugs were gorgeous. This is a spot worth stopping if you love coffee, chocolate, unique items, and local wear.

This is a cool groovy place to grab coffee, ice tea or wine They sell a variety of flavored bitters too. They have a couple small salads and sell salami and cheeses. It has picnic type chairs and tables that wrap around their outdoors It's a great place to chill The winning detail is that they actually have a street you can park on and they were actually 4-5 spaces available I love it here The coffee looked great and they sell bags of it It was 5pm so I got a refreshing lemon fruit ice tea Stop in this cool spot read more

I got a morning bun and cold brew from Herman's. The coffee did not disappoint! Morning bun was flaky and covered in sugar--quite good. Service was fast and ambiance was a little offbeat in a good way! read more
I was looking for coffee around 6:00 p.m. and I'm so glad they open till 7:00 p.m. I believe and they have really nice atmosphere in the dark with lit up. . At first I was going to go with their latte but then I changed to their frozen coffee which has cold brew and oatmeal and it was really refreshing. I love drinking a frozen drink even if it's winter time because it's just so cozy drinking and then warm interior Cafe. . I love how the theme is lawn chairs so there is plenty of them outside where you can sit out during the daytime even during night time too. . The interior is like inside a garage with garage door and they have a little mini market inside that sells Wine and Booze. There is also tables that are red and red chairs inside the garage where you can sit and enjoy some picnic charcuterie board or the little snacks they sell inside along with coffee. . For the parking it is a little bit hard it is busy and there is tight parking outside but I had found a free parking spot right across the street. . Overall I am a fan of this coffee shop in Philadelphia and next time when I come back I will try there latte and their espresso. Herman's is a cute little coffee shop in Pennsport. When I was staying with my friend who lives in the neighborhood we stopped here a few times while walking his dog, and I enjoyed coming here every time. The coffee is delicious and the baristas are super nice. I recommend grabbing a cup of frozen coffee. On one of my visits, the barista suggested that I get the rim of my cup drizzled in chocolate which was such a nice touch. In addition to selling delicious coffee, Herman's also features pop-up shops, food trucks, and other vendors. I got some fab donuts from Kouklet Brazillian Bakehouse one time, and they were to die for and paired perfectly with my coffee. If you're in Pennsport walk on by and stop by Herman's Coffee. You won't be disappointed. read more
Coffee is always good. Love the location and concept! Love its little shop where one can find all kinds of cool snacks, foods, and drinks. Don't care for some of the less-friendly baristas and sometimes messy counters. But I'd come again sometime. read more

An absolute gem of a coffee shop in South Philly. Not only do they have such a unique menu & creative items - they also have a wide selection of pantry items that I could spend hours searching through. My favorite was the sichuan mocha (I will never forget that drink) and gf enjoyed the speculoos latte. We even bought a bag of beans to bring back to my dad for his birthday. I LOVE IT HERE read more

Such a COOL place in the city! Whether you are looking for a quick pick-me-up or want to get some shopping done - you can't go wrong at Herman's. They have a creative coffee menu - their standard drip is delicious, but if you are feeling adventurous, I would recommend trying their espresso tonic! It had bitters, tonic, and grapefruit - really refreshing. They have a ton of unique gets in their store, from a variety of cheese & meats, to non-alcoholic spirits, bloody mary mix, and more! This would be an ideal store in preparation for a party or if you just wanted to stock your house. We enjoyed some pastries they had in house, but loved our meal from the Moshava food truck. They have a packed brunch menu, where you could literally close your eyes and point & land on an item you wouldn't regret. They of course have their lawn chair seating all around the shop. No reservations (for hermans or food truck), but not needed. They have great service, so the order line moves pretty fast. read more

Unique take on a cafe. Excellent latte probably because they roast their own beans. Love the names of their coffee beans. It's not really a sit down cafe but they do have outside seating. Thankfully it was a warm December day. They have a nice selection of items for sale such as syrups, marmalades and bitters. Great place to stop by for an afternoon latte. read more

Decent coffee. I mean the aroma of the black coffee and my decaf espresso was damn amazing. I don't know why we haven't checked this coffee place out sooner! I def love how they offer so many other things from small bakeries too, not to mention fresh bread. I love that there's plenty of easy parking (well, we are here on a weekday at 11am lol) and there's plenty of seating outside! We also love how it's so close to the Herron playground (perfect for families with kids if that's important!). I like the location and the smell of well made coffee. What can I say?? Also they have Bagels from the Bagel Butler! It's superb. read more
Cute little place in the middle of the street (quite literally). I heard it's where the locals get coffee so I wanted to try it. They have a little convenience store inside too. Also heard from the locals that they have different food trucks come by on different days. They had a Mediterranean food truck that day which was pretty good. read more

I really enjoyed Herman's! Anytime I travel to a new city I try to find a great coffee chop that serves proper espresso drinks. The cappuccino was excellent. The vibe was exactly what I was looking for. They also had an awesome selection in the market area. read more

So cute! I have been trying to find some drinking alternatives to break things up and they have a HUGE selection of non alcoholic wines and liquors! The surely wine seems to be most popular but one of the girls in the store recommended the bubbly cans and they were really good! They also have really great coffee and tea, I had an iced tea when I stopped in! Great place for some fancy culinary treats! read more
Happy to have finally ventured down to this cool coffee shop. Our cappuccinos were excellent. Took home a pound of beans for our coffee bar. Loving them! Pop-up New York bagel shop was a great addition to our drinks (Thanks Josh!). Will definitely be back! read more

Herman's is my favorite coffee place when I'm running errands in the city. I love the availability of parking and ease of location. My go-to is the Nutella latte. The selection of bevs and local goods are reason alone to stop by. Staff is very friendly and sometimes they have food trucks parked outside. read more
