ReAnimator is still a pretty good cafe for all the reasons I wrote before, but I must dock one star because they don't bake in house anymore. They get their pastries from elsewhere now and don't offer as many food options like sandwiches like they used to. Reason is that they don't bake the bread there anymore I think. If they found a way to bring that back, that would be great, but it's kind of hard now with how competitive the restaurant scene is here! Staff is still responsive and helpful, and the cafe is still a convenient place to work. The new pastries are still good, but don't compare to the old ones in terms of flavor and texture imo. read more

Cute local coffee shop. Very spacious and there's a decent amount of seating indoors. They do offer a few tables outside. The baristas were friendly. I did mention that it was my first time visiting. If you're aware trying any new place can be overwhelming however, she was very helpful with answering my questions. Ordering coffee here is made simple. I had a pumpkin spice latte that comes with a pumpkin puree. It wasn't sweet nor bitter. It was just right for me. They do offer pastries. And they have a refrigerator with juices and assorted waters. This is a dog friendly place. Almost everyone here had a dog. This is a local spot as many people were familiar with one another. Lots of indoor seating to come and do work or study. The only downside is that they close around 3pm. I tried the latte and the espresso quality was great. Customer Service is one of the most important aspects of a good restaurants. I was the 3rd person in line and the person at the register carried on a personal conversation for more than 5min with another client. After the personal conversation, the person at the register then ask, "oh what is your order." The flirtation continued and the line got longer. When it was time for me to order it was so impersonal and quick.To add to the insult my pie was dry and had no taste and my Chi was 95% ice. Hipster coffee shop! Very open and airy with comfortable seating, and I thoroughly enjoyed my salted vanilla latte. It was very tasty, not too sweet and just enough milky foam that my coffee was very smooth! Can't wait to return here to experience this again, maybe even try another coffee from their variety. As a coffee snob, I love ReAnimator. It is easily the best coffee in Philadelphia. I prefer a medium to light roast and I find that it is always delicious. This morning I ordered a cafe au lait with oat milk and the barista had even asked me how much milk I preferred. I had never been asked that before so it was definitely appreciated! The vibe of the shop on Master street is cool and cozy and I find the prices to be typical for that level of coffee. Highly recommend! read more

A decent coffee place but just some complaints on my part. Located in Fishtown, I thought ReAnimator Coffee had a great setting and vibe, perfect for studying. The Iced Mocha I got was good, nothing particularly special about it. Mocha was a little grainy and not well incorporated with the espresso and milk. But for the price, I really wish I would've gotten more. Don't really understand the costs of iced drinks, especially when you get less drink because of the ice but get charged extra? Especially if you decide to opt for a dairy-free option, getting coffee here is not sustainable- maybe as a once-in-a-while treat. However, with rising wages and such, I can understand the higher costs for cafes nowadays- completely understand that this isn't the only coffee shop that does this. We were in town for the weekend and stopped by Re Animator to get some food before we were able to check into our AirBnB. We liked it so well we came back for breakfast Saturday and Sunday too! The food and drinks were great and the staff was generally friendly. However on our last day they were out of bagels before noon, and were unwilling to make a breakfast sandwich on toast. Early on in the pandemic, I was REALLY missing traveling to different cities and trying out new coffee shops. It was one of my favorite parts of traveling for work. I did a lot of research on the best coffee roasteries in the USA and decided to order some coffee from a select few roasteries to try. One of the coffee shops I ordered from was ReAnimator Coffee. As a fan of the Reanimator movie... I think I was immediately drawn to the name. After trying their coffee, I am now a HUGE fan. They have fantastic coffee. So smooth, so flavorful- every time I brew a cup I feel like I'm drinking something special. I probably have ordered whole beans from them at least 4x last year. I knew when I was visiting Philly that I had to finally check out the shop itself. I went with my typical favorite coffee shop drink- a soymilk latte. It was delicious. So smooth, so well-balanced, and it gave me the boost I needed to drive back home to the burgh. I also grabbed a bag of coffee to take home, of course! read more

They have a small simple menu and a bunch of seating. It's a perfect little spot to study and enjoy a cup of coffee. Music wasn't too loud but it can be pretty crowdy. I got the mocha ($5.40 with tax) and I thought it was a nice balance of sweet, bitter, and milky. The latter art was really cute as well! Love how open this place is! Considering that It was crowded, it still felt comfortable to have a private conversation, which is a plus. The drinks were great, my only complaint is that they didn't have a sugar free flavor available. I hate having to choose between having a zero sugar/flavored latte or a plain one with stevia. This is an interesting place to find yourself considering the surrounding neighborhood. I often spend time at Philadelphia Photo Arts Center and there's not much around the area. Currently there's construction with some road closures then there is a residential areas and large amounts of parking. In terms of finding somewhere to eat well the closest place is Reanimator Coffee. It's quite the godsend and a pleasure to have a coffee house so close. Walk in and you'll be satisfied with what you see. It's a wide open coffee shop with beautiful natural lighting, large windows, bar seating, tables and benches. My initial thought after visiting for the first time years ago was that they were wasting all this space. But coming from congested Rittenhouse Square I find the open space to be very inviting. Towards the back and open to view is the coffee packaging area. It's a pleasure to watch, listen, and smell. So, on to the food. I drink my coffee black and iced Reanimator Coffee IS THE BEST. It's on par with the delicious Starbucks. My major con and the reason for losing one star and perhaps enough reason to lose two is that the food was a joke. If I remember correctly they charge $3 for a bagel plus a dollar for cream cheese. That's pricey. But wait until it gets prepared. All they do is slice of cold bagel for you. I wanted it toasted with cream cheese. Well, they gave me a cold bagel pointed me to the corner of the coffee house where there's a toaster, and had me toast the bagel myself. And the cream cheese is a a small package of Philadelphia Cream Cheese that comes with a plastic knife for me to apply it myself! $4 for a bagel would make sense if I not only got the food but they also did some work! It is just lazy to have the customer toast their own bagel and put on their own crappy cream cheese with a weak plastic knife that's not able to spread things well. How absurd. So on future visits I would just get a LARGE and delicious cranberry, sea salt, and chocolate cookie for less than $3. Note that there's also a outdoor seating and bicycle parking. read more

This is probably one of my favorite coffee shop in philly. The location in master street is convenient and very fitting to the new neighborhood of Olde Kensington, and of course the hipster vibe Fishtown. My go to is the cap, but tried the latte today and was so amazing. I had top stop myself from gulping down the whole thing. The texture was so smooth and the sweetness of well steamed whole milk really blended well with their espresso beans. If you want to try something little new, try their espresso tonic! I'm visiting the area and decided to give ReAnimator a shot. The pastries are good, I got the cinnamon roll and it tasted fresh and was really delicious. I got an iced black coffee, and it was okay. A bit watered down and not super strong but for the price point it was good. Everyone was kind, and the space itself is spacious and cute. I can see people who work remote would definitely enjoy this spot. I'll have to give this spot one more go before I leave- the ube latte sounds very intriguing! read more

This was my first time here. I picked it because it was just around the corner from my location plus it had good reviews. When I walked in, it was oddly quiet despite the background music. The vibe is an industrial building with minimal decor. Everyone kept to themselves and it seemed a little too cold and off putting for my taste. There's no freshly brewed aroma of coffee beans or baked goods when you walk in. I ordered an ice tea which didn't taste anything special and cost a whopping $3.75. I should have gone to Starbucks and gotten a flavored fancy iced tea for that price. This will be my first and last time. read more

Absolutely delicious. I love the name and fully expected that there'd be images of zombies running for their java all over the place. I arrive and there's not a zombie in sight. My own sorry self was the closest they came that morning. My coffee was absolutely delicious, the interior was relaxed and calm and the exposed beams, especially the one with the little trolley still on it was just awesome. Parking can be a hassle on the narrow, one way street but the tasty reanimation serum is definitely worth it. read more

This place is amazing. The staff are extremely sweet and make sure individuals are fully vaccinated before they are allowed to sit in the cafe and enjoy their order. It is beautiful with a larger variety of coffee beans and other appliances as well as a bakery in the back filling the place with a delicious smell of coffee and bread. Very nice cafe on Master Street. Beautifully designed and excellent food. This review, though, is on the retail aspect. I admittedly buy 3 pound bags of whole bean coffee at Costco for home use. On a recent morning, I had run out and thought it was a good time to patronize a local roaster. On the shelf they had about 6 varieties priced from $16 up to about $22. I chose the Foundation blend at $16. When I got home, I noticed this was only a 10 oz. bag! Talk about shrinkflation. Growing up, you would refer to buying coffee by the pound. Then it shrank to 12 oz. Is the trend now down to 10? My bad for not reading the label closely, but I find this rather deceptive. Buyer beware. read more
