I had a lemonade and delicious red velvet muffin. The cream filling inside tasted like cheesecake. All their pastries looked delicious and they had a couple matcha choices at their coffee bar. It's a beautifully designed cafe with modern and unique lighting, big colonial size windows, plants, spacious table seating and outlets! Their speciality latte menu is unique and it was difficult to decide what to get. I played safe and got the Salted Caramel Latte while my husband, who is more experimental, got the Blueberry bliss latte. Both were delicious, the blueberry was definitely very unique but I prefer and recommend their salted caramel which was a perfect balance of salty and sweet. Lots of space to sit inside as well as outside and saw many people with their laptops on a Sunday evening. We chose to sit outside as it was a perfect fall day and we got to enjoy some colors in washington square as well. read more

At Madis, I ordered the chicken sando, apple peach tea, and blueberry muffin. The service was nice and friendly. However, the food tasted mid. At first, I enjoyed eating the chicken sando because the bread was perfectly toasted and the chicken was juicy, but when I ate the 2nd half of the sandwich, I realized that the sandwich was too heavy. The coleslaw, sauce, and buttered toasted bread made the sandwich hard to eat, due to the strong flavors. I feel like the sandwich is better to share, if you don't want to be too full but want to try it. The cold apple peach tea didn't have any sugar added and it showed. Also, I could barely taste the apple or peach flavor, but that could be because there was no artificial flavoring. For the blueberry muffin, I saved it and ate it later. It was alright, not bad but not amazing. I'd want to try their vegan banana bread next time though (their only vegan-friendly baked good). The interior of the cafe is cute but because the seating is limited, it's hard to get a seat. As I was eating, I noticed that some people came to the cafe, just to work on their laptop rather than come in for the food, which further limits the seating. It's a bit crowded and hard to find a seat but, luckily, because I was eating alone (rather than with a friend or a small group), I was able to find a seat quickly. Turns out there is also seating outside, if you're unable to find a seat indoors and if the weather is nice. read more

Beautiful space in an iconic and historic building. There's plenty of seating! The cafe definitely focuses on a wide variety of well curated and sourced beans. The drink menu is extensive and there's plenty of food items to try from. We got a cold brew with vanilla syrup, it honestly tasted like McDonald's french vanilla iced coffee. DRINKS I've visited Madis a couple times over the past two months and have tried a couple items. Given its proximity to the Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, it's a popular place for tourists to come in and relax. Biscolatte: 5/10. The cookie chunks kind of settle at the bottom and are a bit soggy when drinking. Not the best experience texture-wise. Cinnamon honey spiced latte: 7/10. A classic drink, a little watery, but solid overall Salted caramel latte: 7.5/10. They use Monin syrup for this drink, and you can't go wrong if you choose this! Iced green tea: 7.5/10. Very refreshing. Naturally a little sweet, though you can add sugar at the station by the door if you want it sweeter! FOOD Various pastry and savory bakery items are available for purchase. SERVICE The staff are kind and friendly! Drinks come uncapped, and there's a station by the door to add sugar, honey, or cream to your drink before you cap it yourself. Napkins and straws are also available. AMBIANCE It's a great place to catch up with friends or study/work. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available if you're looking to work/study, and outlets are scattered throughout the establishment. Ample seating is available both inside and outside the shop. Popped into this cute spot today while exploring Old City. I ordered an iced coffee which was pretty good. They had a prep station with multiple milk and sugar options including simple syrup and oat milk which was a nice touch. I liked the coffee, but not enough to not throw a couple of splashes of oat milk on top. The location is really cute. You can view the roaster through a glass window, and they have several tables that directly overlook it. There is plenty of seating including a high top counter overlooking outside. Don't miss popping into the building lobby (enter through the door to the left of the register) to see a stunning Tiffany mosaic. It is a must see! read more

Overall impression of this place is that it is a cute coffee shop, but definitely on the pricier side. Two lattes, the French toast, and a salad all came out to around $50. Honestly, it also gets pretty crowded in there so you might not even get a seat. Albeit, there is a good amount of seating but there's also a good amount of people in there. My French toast was also on the drier side, small portion for the price, and didn't have too much flavor to it... I wouldn't get it again. The salad was fine too, but the chicken was dry. The service is fine, but I don't get the vibe that this is like your local coffee shop where they get to know your name because they have so many customers to go through. The aesthetic is cute though. But for a slow morning, I wouldn't go here because it's pretty expensive and gets very crowded. read more

Had a really good matcha here. The staff was very knowledgeable about the ingredients and was very helpful in selecting a drink that didn't have allergens in it for me. This inside was really interesting and seemed like a good spot to sit and get work done. The art in the lobby is cool and you can see the coffee roasting area through the window. Busy area but there seems to be no other coffee shops, so Madis fills the need. Was very crowded and confusing when we entered, but we figured it out. We got a bag of beans, a matcha oat milk latte, a regular oat latte, the hummus toast and a turkey sandwich. The lattes were a good temp, but their presentation was off. Top was super foamy, not silky and creamy as a latte should be. The hummus toast was nice, perfect mix of acid and salt. The sandwich came with fried potatoes on the side and a sauce to dip in, all perfectly seasoned. The price is a bit high, maybe because of the location. read more

I work in the area and recently visited Madis since I had heard some buzz about, and unfortunately, my experience was less than stellar. I ordered a cup of their house coffee. Given the prices, I was hoping for something rich and flavorful. Instead, what I received was quite mediocre--lacking in depth and complexity. It felt more like a basic brew rather than something crafted with care. It was drinkable, but definitely not memorable or considered a good value As for the muffin, it was one of the worst I've tasted. I chose a chocolate chip muffin. While it was moist, there was an almost chemical/stale taste. The chocolate, while plentiful didn't have the flavor that I expected; instead, they seemed to be an afterthought. I barely made it through half of it before deciding that it wasn't worth the calories and threw it into my office trash. Overall, this $10.00+ visit was disappointing. I hope they can improve their offerings, as every café deserves a chance to shine. But for now, I'll be looking for my coffee fix elsewhere. read more

Poor customer service and non-transparent pricing. I pointed out the price listed on their menu was not the price I was charged for a drink. When I asked for the listed price to be honored, I was told "we haven't updated the screen yet but this is our price". The guy working the register refused to honor the listed price. I would've left if my friends didn't order already. my drink (matcha latte) and food (coffee cake) were fine. not worth the price nor the hassle, but the location is good. read more

I have given this place several attempts, and each time I'm disappointed. The service is not wonderful. They are not unpleasant but they are dismissive and seem annoyed to be working. They are chit chatting and talking amongst themselves They call you name and you can't hear. It takes way too long for the coffee and food to be prepared. And it is small portions for way too much money. You should be embarrassed with the lack of chicken even in this bowl. I can't believe I paid $14 for this meal.... And I think they forgot the spicy part of this because it was very bland. Certainly won't be spending money there anymore read more

Cute new coffee shop! It can get busy but even with a lot of people, it's not too loud. I was served at the register by Nyla, who was very helpful and answered all my questions. I don't drink coffee but I got a London fog and it was delicious, my partner said the cappuccino was very good and made with high quality espresso. Definitely want to try some of the breakfast and lunch options, saw some nice fresh sandwiches and salads going out when I picked up our drinks read more

If you're looking for breakfast options, it is slightly limited at this café. There were some muffins and baked goods available. My experience with El Café in The Hilton Mōttō was very good overall. I enjoyed the hot chocolate. It was rich, smooth and perfect comfort in the morning on the go. The customer service was also great! They were friendly, helpful and welcoming. Additionally, I thought the prices for their coffee and hot chocolate was reasonable. I'd stop by El Café again if I stay at the Hilton Motto.

Although technically not a part of the cafe, the fact that it's located inside the hotel means there's lots of comfortable seating available around the lobby. Rght across from the cafe there's a fantastic lounge area with a pool table and a collection of books. I don't think anyone would use the books in the library and they're mostly decorative, but I did think it was cute. The menu is adorable - it's a giant scroll on the wall and had some Philly-themed artwork. I would go back just to see if they change up the artwork.

There's tons of seating, BUT it tends to all get taken up quite quickly. Sometimes there's some unhoused around the building, including in the bathrooms despite needing a code to get in, but it's not too much of a detraction of it being a good working and gathering space.

The donut itself had this amazing sweet maple smell, almost like straight maple syrup. The bacon on top was a nice touch, and the whipped maple creme filling was delicious. It was definitely a sweet donut, but it hit the spot. The Biscoff donut came in a close second. It had the perfect filling-to-bread ratio, and as someone who loves anything Biscoff, this was super satisfying. Both of these donuts were incredibly soft and had the perfect texture. The apple fritter ranked third for us, but it was still really good. It wasn't as sweet as the other two, which was actually nice and helped balance everything out. I do wish it had been a little crispier and had more pieces of apple throughout, but I still enjoyed it. I'd absolutely come back to try more of their donuts, and I definitely want to check out some of their other bakery items too!
