Chicken sando, cold apple peach tea, and blueberry muffin
    Rosa Z.

At Madis, I ordered the chicken sando, apple peach tea, and blueberry muffin. The service was nice and friendly. However, the food tasted mid. At first, I enjoyed eating the chicken sando because the bread was perfectly toasted and the chicken was juicy, but when I ate the 2nd half of the sandwich, I realized that the sandwich was too heavy. The coleslaw, sauce, and buttered toasted bread made the sandwich hard to eat, due to the strong flavors. I feel like the sandwich is better to share, if you don't want to be too full but want to try it. The cold apple peach tea didn't have any sugar added and it showed. Also, I could barely taste the apple or peach flavor, but that could be because there was no artificial flavoring. For the blueberry muffin, I saved it and ate it later. It was alright, not bad but not amazing. I'd want to try their vegan banana bread next time though (their only vegan-friendly baked good). The interior of the cafe is cute but because the seating is limited, it's hard to get a seat. As I was eating, I noticed that some people came to the cafe, just to work on their laptop rather than come in for the food, which further limits the seating. It's a bit crowded and hard to find a seat but, luckily, because I was eating alone (rather than with a friend or a small group), I was able to find a seat quickly. Turns out there is also seating outside, if you're unable to find a seat indoors and if the weather is nice.

Beautiful space in an iconic and historic building. There's plenty of seating! The cafe definitely focuses on a wide variety of well curated and sourced beans. The drink menu is extensive and there's plenty of food items to try from. We got a cold brew with vanilla syrup, it honestly tasted like McDonald's french vanilla iced coffee. I wasn't mad about it.

DRINKS I've visited Madis a couple times over the past two months and have tried a couple items. Given its proximity to the Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, it's a popular place for tourists to come in and relax. Biscolatte: 5/10. The cookie chunks kind of settle at the bottom and are a bit soggy when drinking. Not the best experience texture-wise. Cinnamon honey spiced latte: 7/10. A classic drink, a little watery, but solid overall Salted caramel latte: 7.5/10. They use Monin syrup for this drink, and you can't go wrong if you choose this! Iced green tea: 7.5/10. Very refreshing. Naturally a little sweet, though you can add sugar at the station by the door if you want it sweeter! FOOD Various pastry and savory bakery items are available for purchase. SERVICE The staff are kind and friendly! Drinks come uncapped, and there's a station by the door to add sugar, honey, or cream to your drink before you cap it yourself. Napkins and straws are also available. AMBIANCE It's a great place to catch up with friends or study/work. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available if you're looking to work/study, and outlets are scattered throughout the establishment. Ample seating is available both inside and outside the shop. PARKING Paid street parking is available at a limited capacity. BATHROOMS The bathrooms are clean and tidy!

Popped into this cute spot today while exploring Old City. I ordered an iced coffee which was pretty good. They had a prep station with multiple milk and sugar options including simple syrup and oat milk which was a nice touch. I liked the coffee, but not enough to not throw a couple of splashes of oat milk on top. The location is really cute. You can view the roaster through a glass window, and they have several tables that directly overlook it. There is plenty of seating including a high top counter overlooking outside. Don't miss popping into the building lobby (enter through the door to the left of the register) to see a stunning Tiffany mosaic. It is a must see!

I was excited to see this location open up after being a faithful customer at their University City location. Their salted caramel latte is always a hit. This location is big with both indoor and outdoor seating, which is needed because it does get packed!

    French toast

Overall impression of this place is that it is a cute coffee shop, but definitely on the pricier side. Two lattes, the French toast, and a salad all came out to around $50. Honestly, it also gets pretty crowded in there so you might not even get a seat. Albeit, there is a good amount of seating but there's also a good amount of people in there. My French toast was also on the drier side, small portion for the price, and didn't have too much flavor to it... I wouldn't get it again. The salad was fine too, but the chicken was dry. The service is fine, but I don't get the vibe that this is like your local coffee shop where they get to know your name because they have so many customers to go through. The aesthetic is cute though. But for a slow morning, I wouldn't go here because it's pretty expensive and gets very crowded.

Had a really good matcha here. The staff was very knowledgeable about the ingredients and was very helpful in selecting a drink that didn't have allergens in it for me. This inside was really interesting and seemed like a good spot to sit and get work done. The art in the lobby is cool and you can see the coffee roasting area through the window. I'd definitely come back here if I was near the touristy area again!

Matcha latte, oat milk latte, hummus toast, and turkey sandwich
    Roxanne O.

Busy area but there seems to be no other coffee shops, so Madis fills the need. Was very crowded and confusing when we entered, but we figured it out. We got a bag of beans, a matcha oat milk latte, a regular oat latte, the hummus toast and a turkey sandwich. The lattes were a good temp, but their presentation was off. Top was super foamy, not silky and creamy as a latte should be. The hummus toast was nice, perfect mix of acid and salt. The sandwich came with fried potatoes on the side and a sauce to dip in, all perfectly seasoned. The price is a bit high, maybe because of the location.

    Tiramisu Latte

The pastries were fantastic and the coffee was as well. Highly reccomend the tiramisu latte.

    Biscolatte and chocolate frappe
    Randy B.

The person at the register was friendly and the cafe had an overall pleasant ambiance. This seems like a great place to work and study. However, the chocolate frappe was awful: tasted like watery milk, not a hint of coffee or chocolate, and took a while to prepare. I expected more from a $6 drink. The iced biscolatte was good and served in a timely manner.

    Matcha
    Britney C.

The coffee shop is really spacious and clean so 10/10 there. The ambiance is chill so it's a nice place to study. Service was good. But this matcha..... diabolical! I think there's one half tablespoon of powder in here. Sad

Service was quick, food tasted great. We ordered eggs in purgatory, spinach feta pastry, cappuccino, and iced fruit tea for $34. Great ambience and music is calm.

    Cold brew w almond milk

The place is so cute inside and the coffee is good, but the wifi is TERRIBLE. Disconnects constantly and hard to do any work on a laptop... they should probably get two routers or not make the password public on the wall.

    Is the cafe wheelchair accessible?

It would be difficult to maneuver a chair up the main stairs to the front and entry is very narrow. Possible there is a back/side entrance

I don't think I've ever visited an an hour where I've seen it not. Often a line going from the counter, down the stairs, all the way to the bathroom. If you're looking for a quick coffee stop, don't expect to be in and out of here. That being said, they've got some kinds of seating not typical of coffee shops, including this nice long U-shaped couch seating. You'll be around with other folks reading or enjoying their joe, but it's a nice change of pace. Working-wise, wi-fi is solid. Outlets are sparse. Hard to stay a long time here. Music is at least at a tolerable level to tune out and is not usually too bumping. Staff here are quick, but won't be the friendliest. They won't be rude either. They're just trying to get through the line so don't take it personally Overall: would much prefer other places like Capital One Cafe for the reasons I visit cafes, but I can see this being a nice place for other more leisurely-natured visits!

That being said, the team really does their best to get everything out as quickly as possible despite how packed it gets. Finding a table on weekends can also be pretty difficult, so I'd keep that in mind before going. As for the actual food and drinks, I've enjoyed most of the drinks I've tried here. I also love that they're always coming out with seasonal drinks and food specials, which keeps the menu fun and interesting. Definitely worth keeping up with their Instagram for updates. For the food though, there were a couple things I personally probably wouldn't order again. The J St Sando didn't have much flavor in my opinion, and the OG banh mi just wasn't anything particularly special to me. However, the tamarind fries and the gochujang fried chicken banh mi were delicious!! Those were definitely the standouts for me and what I'd come back for. Overall still a really fun spot with great energy and creative menu items.

The employees were very friendly and welcoming, and my order was ready quickly. The shop seemed to have many regulars that the employees recognized, and it's definitely a dog friendly spot. I managed to grab a counter seat, but it wasn't super comfortable, and I constantly had people standing over me while waiting for their orders since there was nowhere else for them to stand. I ordered the Lucky Charms Bronut, which was a fun special for St. Patrick's Day. It was fresh and tasted good, but I expected the filling to be much sweeter than it actually was. Definitely more bun than sugary donut. I also ordered the Cherry Hazelnut Iced Latte, which was a monthly special. I was disappointed to not really taste cherry or hazelnut in it. The coffee was good quality, but I didn't get the flavors I expected. If you prefer your baked goods and iced lattes on the less sweet end of the spectrum, this is definitely your place, but my sweet tooth was a little disappointed.
