Icon at the register! Super smiley and sweet service I felt super welcomed and safe. There was no music so it was certainly nice, possibly a bit awkward and quiet inside (lol). I am a longtime barista so I understand the sentiment of wanting the espresso to stand out, but I love a little cinnamon powder or cocoa powder ontop just to give it some type of additional sensation and they have neither. They have honey which I requested in my latte and I was told it was not for coffee and only to be used for the teas. This I thought was odd? If it is there and you offer sugar and a few syrups, why is honey forbidden to be added? read more

I got a hot chocolate and mocha and wasn't thrilled about either. Both were quite bland, almost watery and lacking the kick of cocoa or caffeine. The baristas are friendly but personally for me Ox just didn't do it. read more

102 degree day. Super chill spot located on 3rd just off south. I've never been but I opened that door and the ac felt great and the person working was a sweetheart. All I got was a black fill white outline (black coffee in a white cup) but the service was great and by the time I got to the kick it spot I got to taste the coffee and it's good! I found ox Coffee from a Google search of coffee shops near me. Grateful that Ox Coffee was a short minute walk from my Airbnb. It was a cute coffee shop with a simple, clean design. Due to Covid, you could order online or walk up to the makeshift ordering window at the door. They had a standard drinks menu. I didn't see any specialty drinks, which was totally cool. Let the quality of the coffee speak for itself! Although I wasn't hungry, the pastries on display looked tasty. I ordered a nonfat latte with simple syrup. I initially asked for a vanilla latte, but they didn't carry vanilla syrup. The drink was offered in two sizes: regular or large. I got the regular size but was shocked by how tiny the cup was. It looked like it was less than a 12 oz. cup for $4.10. I didn't agree with the size to cost ratio at first, but any doubt I had of the coffee melted away after I tried my drink. It was made very well. My latte was smooth, had the perfect temperature, and had the right amount of sweetness that wasn't overpowering. Lastly, customer service was excellent. The staff member at the ordering window was friendly and helpful, and I can't help but feel that my rink was made carefully and thoughtfully. read more

I was out of beans and wanted to try a local roaster. A Yelper noted that they have some lighter roasts here, which is up my alley. I ordered a bag of beans and 2 drinks, and my husband and I walked over. They were putting our drinks on the counter as I arrived. I grabbed my bag of beans and my drinks bypassing the small group that was inside waiting. Sweet! My drip coffee was good: not too roasty but smooth and enjoyable. My husband's iced mocha was rich. They use a dark chocolate that isn't very sweet. It gives it a great flavor, not tasting like hot chocolate. At home, the beans make a good cup of coffee in my Aeropress. The thing that will hit you about this coffee is that is is Freshly Roasted. If you like lighter roasts, this place is for you. (I enjoy the spectrum- but this is just amazing coffee) I was impressed by the range of notable toasty and delicate flavors that escape if the coffee sits about for even a little bit. Another one of my top 5 coffee places in Philadelphia. Since we are in a pandemic, we've always gotten our coffee to go. Their coffee is delicious and it tends to be of a stronger roast with European-sized portions. They also carry the most delicious almond croissants. (I cannot think of these croissants without wanting one immediately.) They also have a good gluten-free bar that my husband loves. A gem in the Queen Village neighborhood! read more

Expect a crowd of young, hipster/millennial types, a small blackboard menu, and a selection of 4-5 kinds of pastries. While the almond croissant looked heavenly, I opted for the cinnamon roll, pleased with its buttery croissant like texture and sweet quotient that didn't ring too many diabetes alarms. The mocha was foamy on top, more bitter than sweet, and just the temperature requested. Rather like-able. Since I'm not a local and didn't know much about it, I assumed this was just another boutique coffee shop that charges $4 for a cup of latte. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much more than a quick pick-me-up, instead, what I got was a swift kick to the butt in midst of my near food coma state. This coffee is no joke. It is rich and dark, and I can see now the $4 for a latte from here is a very good deal. I was told later on by a friend that this place has been picked as having better coffee than the ones in the Pacific Northwest, and that says a lot. Speaking of the after lunch slump, that's where I am now and would love to get another latte from Ox Coffee. The cafe isn't all that big, and there aren't any tables up front, just a couple of benches and a bar counter against the wall. If you walk to the back area, there is a small sitting area with a table. Apparently there's a garden area as well, but I didn't get to go check it out. I do hope I get to come back for more coffee. On a scale of hotel coffee packets to a pour over this place is a solid pour over. The place is small so there's not a lot of room for loitering or working, but what it lacks in space it makes up for in great coffee. I've been here a couple times now when in town and it is always a great cup of coffee or latte. I'm a big fan of the more dark, strong, and earthy coffees rather than the fruity, light varieties and this joint pours them dark, strong, and earthy. Of course, you can also opt for the other variety. After all, this is America and even if you like weak and fruity coffee, you're free to choose poorly. ;-P They also offer the expected milk substitutes so those who, like me, can't do dairy [insert sad face here] you have options. Aside from top notch coffees they have a limited baked goods offering and the anise scones are excellent! I highly recommend them. On a side note I need to give mad props to the owner who puts all money in the cash drawer facing the same way so that when she hands you back your change you don't have to rearrange it!!! This alone makes the place 5 stars in my book. I gave her a high five and told her she has a customer for life. Ha! read more

I really enjoyed this cozy cafe when I visited last week. It was a great way to start off our Saturday morning. We decided to stay and try a large latte. It was tasty without having to add anything...it was just right. The interior is beautiful and they have succulents by the window behind the bench by the entrance. They have some bar high seats across from the register by the wall, a table in the back room with a light and a cute plant behind it, a wooden bench with some magazines, and a garden outside (which I believe will be a lot more lively once it gets a bit warmer). So, I walked past this place yesterday, and they had left the front door open. Like a scene out of a cartoon, the fragrance of dark coffee had me freeze in place on the sidewalk, reverse five steps, and head in. I did not regret it. The place has a pretty simple set up with the counter and a small corner for three or four people to chill out. Coffee was excellent. The barista I met was a former roaster with Stumptown up in New York, and that's their bean supplier. I had a caffe mocha--complete with latte art!--and the barista was nice enough to make up a complimentary espresso shot of one of their roasts as I was eyeing a bag of coffee to take home as well. It's a simple coffee shop, but service is great, and the coffee is good to the last drop. Give them a try; I'll be back the next time I'm in the neighborhood. read more

I stopped in Ox on a Sunday morning, hoping to drink a good latte and get some studying done. I was a little concerned when I first walked in, noticing the little bar off to the right of the counter that Ox may not be the best place to sit and read for a couple hours. There's another little room in the back with one table and some more benches, but unfortunately someone was already sitting at the table (and I would've felt like a jerk taking up the only table for 4 by myself). I squeezed in at the bar, which was just big enough for my iPad mini to fit on it. The latte was delicious and among the best in Philly, and the staff was super friendly (why Ox is getting 5 stars instead of 4) and we chatted a bit before I sat down to read. While I definitely won't come back here to study, I'll definitely come back next time I'm in the area and want a caffeine fix. read more
