I'm not sure how long the little gem as been here (by the looks of it, quite a while), but we were glad we found it. It's quite literally on the other side of the mountain from us - just over Chinook pass on the west side. We were looking for a spot to grab some lunch after an early season hike of Naches peak loop, and this place was the one we were looking for! For those "uneducated" about very small towns in central southern Washington, Naches is a one such town. Anytime we see a spot that's named after somewhere near us, we generally try to check it out, so imagine our surprise when we came across this magic little hole in the wall. It's very rustic/mountainy feeling inside and out. From the pool table room with dollar bills stapled to the wall, to the old school bar, and the yard out back with extra seating, this place oozes small town charisma! The menu isn't huge, but it was very good! Burgers, chicken, salads, fish 'n chips and some seriously dope cheese curds are all at your fingertips! The drink selection is solid, trends towards a biker bar (not surprisingly), and had some good non-alcoholic options. The woman who took our order, may have helped make everything, and was quick to get our drinks and food out to us. There was a bit of a crowd and she did nice job of taking care of everyone. As a random aside, you should check out the bathrooms and their decor. It's quite a unique spectacle! On a nice day, there are few places nicer than a spot like this. If you're driving over highway 410, this is place you should plan to check out! read more

Five star bar food and restaurant! I always appreciate this spot after a hike. Here you get what you need and nothing more. Splitting a bill is always an interesting option here and they do not offer substitutions. That is ok. Because the burgers are solid and the homemade potato chips are the bomb! As previous comments mentioned, this is the last spot before driving up to Crystal or Rainier. Stopped here on a Sunday night after a drive around. Very welcoming & staff were all amazing. The area is nice, typical bar with pool tables, booths and bar seating. The place is covered in $1 bills with written notes on them & you can leave one as well. I ordered the naches nachos with ground beef (which is huge btw and shareable with 3-4 people) and it was pretty good! It comes with sour cream and salsa (which was okay). My friend ordered the Tavern Burger which he said tastes like a homemade burger and was good. There is a late night menu with limited items starting at 7pm btw! I was lucky enough to arrive before 7 to order some food. I did not get a chance to get a photo of the limited menu but it does not include nachos and a burger so arrive before 7pm to get this. If you're nearby I'd honestly just drive a little further or stop earlier and spend money somewhere else. My group got burgers, pulled pork sandwiches, and drinks. I only gave this place 2 starts for a few reasons. 1. Slow service 2. Extremely mid food. The cheeseburger was $12 quality at best. Thin/burnt patty, crunchy bottom bun 3. Mystery soda? Ordered Dr. Pepper and it tastes like watered down coke. We can't figure out what it is. 4. Flys throughout the place flying around the food. Cute ambiance inside but that's about it. We ordered 3 BLT & 1 Toasted Cheese sandwiches off of a Chalkboard menu that showed no prices, but thought they would be relatively lower priced than the other items....WRONG! $15/BLT & $10 for the Cheese, but I let it go because it was the only place to get some food before we went into the mountain to hunt mushrooms. Wellllll....besides the ludicrous prices, it took 40 minutes to get the "food". PLUS.... I stopped in here after fishing all day on the Naches river. This place has been here for 100 years; it is an iconic roadside tavern, a true piece of Americana. Came here today with my boyfriend for lunch for the first time! After reading some reviews about the burgers I wasn't going to get one but that what I was craving so I went for it! My bf loved it (he's loves everything, hence why I'm the food critic in our relationship lol) I will say the meat definitely could have used more seasoning BUT the French fries made up for it they LOAD you up and as a fry connoisseur I appreciated that so much and they were seasoned perfectly! Cheese curds were hit and crispy they loaded us up and those too! Bartender was so friendly, attentive, made conversation with anyone who came in, and had a pretty heavy pour which is on point! I hope she's our bartender next time we go! On our way up to our cabin my friends and I decided to stop for a drink while waiting for the rest of our friends to catch up to us. It's a very cute cozy little place. They had the Seahawks game on and everyone seemed to be having an enjoyable time. There were lots of people at the bar and pool area, we decided to sit near the fireplace. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We quickly felt welcomed, we didn't feel like new customers at all. The customers were pretty friendly, they were nice enough to share some of their chairs so our group of girls could all sit together. It was pretty cold out and I was absolutely happy the temperature inside was cozy, I loved it. I ordered vodka lemonade and it was delicious. It was very flavorful and the right amount of liquor. My friends really enjoyed their drinks as well. We left happy and pleased. We will definitely be back. Such a neat place. read more

Visiting a place like this, I remember why I started writing reviews in the first place! So often, when service is abysmal, the clientele has very little recourse to voice a concern, so this becomes the forum, in hopes that the management of the place will take notice, and the experience of others will improve. I have visited the Naches Tavern several times, usually on the way home from a ski trip, and while the service is never worth writing about, they typically do a decent job of serving tasty meals to a packed house of sweaty skiers in a timely manner. It was really the only option between Crystal and Enumclaw, and we used to enjoy stopping off here. After this weekend, I won't be back anytime soon. For some reason, the service on this trek was awful! After a day of hiking, we were famished, and ready for a tasty beverage. Upon arrival, there were a few cars & motorcycles out front, but not nearly as busy as I'm used to. I headed on in, and passed a server that was bringing a bill to a table, but there was no eye contact, no "Hey, welcome to the NT!" or any acknowledgement. Being a beautiful afternoon, we opted for a seat outside, settling into a couple Adirondack chairs in the beer garden. Our server came and found us within a few minutes, and gave us a heads up that she 'wouldn't be back for awhile, so we'd better get our beer orders in right away'. "What do you have on tap?", I asked (apparently a bad call on my part...) "What do you want?", she replied. Taking a glance at the 10 Barrel Brewing Co. umbrella in our area, I stated, "Well, I'd love a good Trail Beer NPA." She then informed me, "We have a Black Butte Porter and a Bodi IPA." *wow - a Tavern with two beers on tap..* "Any sort of Lager?" "We have Coors Light." "Ok, let's go with the Porter...". My partner said she'd just stick with water, to which the server said, "Get your own - right over there", gesturing to an Igloo cooler with a spigot on the side. She never brought us any menus, but we figured we'd better get our food order in quick, so my partner grabbed a paper menu off a nearby table and ordered the BBQ Brisket meal (with two sides - $18). I ordered the BBQ Pork Belly (with two sides - $17). The server disappeared for a bit, as promised, and we hung out for a few, chatting. Right after the beer came out, a couple came and sat in the chairs next to us, despite the fact that there were plenty of other options, and the lady immediately started talking incredibly loudly, making it impossible for us to continue our intimate conversation. We moved over to a table by the door, and I went to refill my partner's water. As our server passed by, I told her, "Heads Up - we moved over to the table", to which she replied, "Your server will be over shortly..." *But you ARE our server...* About 25 minutes later, she showed up with our meals, and walked all over the beer garden before coming to our table - "Oh, you moved..." REALLY? There's not that many people out here.... *awesome* She set the food down and immediately turned to go back inside. My partner was served the Brisket SANDWICH, with ONE side, but after waiting another 10 minutes, decided to go ahead and dig in anyways - BFD, right? We're hungry! The one positive aspect of the entire visit? The bbq meats were FANTASTIC! Perfectly done - props to the chef! Oddly enough, my pork belly bbq meal was served with a thick slice of what seemed to be Wonderbread - no butter, garlic dusting, or toasted surface at all - just yanked from the bag, and tossed onto the plate. We ate our meals, and then flagged down the server for our bill. When it came out, the prices were wrong. My partner, fortunately, was charged the Brisket Sandwich price ($15), but for some reason, mine came to $21 ($4 over the menu price!) When I finally flagged down the server again, she looked it over and said - "It's just a dollar difference... I'll fix it inside". Foolishly, I gave her my card, and when she returned, another 10 minutes later, the EXACT SAME AMOUNT was charged to my card! Not wanting to take the time to figure out if a manager was onsite to fix this, we figured we'd take the difference out of all the future visits we WON'T BE MAKING TO THIS PLACE, signed the check, and got ready to head out. While wrapping up our bill, my partner headed into the Ladies' room, where she found NO TOILET PAPER OR HAND TOWELS, so she grabbed some napkins off the table nearby. Coming out after taking care of business, she told the lady waiting in line, who laughed uproariously, and said, "Of COURSE they don't!" - what an unceremonious end to a great run of après-hike burgers for us. Being the only option along this stretch of road, I doubt the management will have any incentive to improve the quality of service, based on a few reviews such as this, but I sure wish they'd go back to making it a fun place to stop - there's so much potential here! read more

I have loved this place for a long time, and always look forward to coming here. It's always been a great dive with good food and pricing. I don't know how you go an mess that up, but this place is a hollow shell of its former self. Guy behind the bar has no business being a bartender. Says he has a full bar when in actuality they have a limited bar but cover the essentials; so debatable. Says he can make a Mule and turns around and makes a Greyhound. Clueless. Snugly states he only has good whiskey, he doesn't. Thinks a whiskey neat means hitting it with the soda gun. Food was awful. Their onsite BBQ is just a soft wet mess of food. Really was more like cat food, certainly did not represent right off the smoker as they proudly announced. They had everything open, so there were flies all over, no traps or anything. So flys just crawled on you, your food and all over the bar. Which makes sense because it's filthy and sticky even by dive bar standards. God and their pricing is now astronomical. We hit a higher end place after, had better quality food and drinks for a fraction of the price. Not only is their pricing a joke for the quality, their service doesn't back up the huge hike. And for a dive bar to have pricing like that...seems like Greenwater is out of touch or just interested in scalping captive audience of mountain visitors. read more

Heading back to Seattle after a drive up into the foothills and we needed lunch. This place popped up on a google search and had good reviews so we decided to try it. It's not fancy and the outdoors area is demarcated by a rent-a-fence and has a gravel floor, so to speak! Plus a sign on the gate specifying it as "family seating". The building itself is rustic with a hodge podge of furniture and decorations. It's not trying to be fancy. In fact, it don't care if you care. It is what it is, take it or leave it! It's clearly popular with the weekend bikers as well as catching the drive by traffic. So, is it worth it? Yes, in my opinion it is. The servers are pleasant and do the rounds regularly. Drinks are replenished before the dregs have a chance to mix with the melted ice. Seriously. They have a basic menu - burgers, sandwiches, salads, and pizza - and drinks. We had burgers and pizza. I have to say the BOR burger is damn good. Bleu cheese, grilled mushrooms, and bacon add layers of flavour I didn't expect. My husband shared the supreme pizza with the youngest and declared it very fresh and tasty. And not horribly greasy either. The older kids both had the basic tavern burger and devoured them. The fries were crispy on the outside, soft in the centre, and yummy. Although we didn't utilise it, they have games available too. The kids at another table kept bringing out tons and boxes and playing while waiting. Brilliant move. It wasn't pricey. The food was good and served hot. Not too long a wait. To me I would be just fine going in to order but if that's a problem for you might not be your place. Wife and I are easy going lay back people and both love this place drive up here in the winter and have a hot toddy on couch in front of the fire place to chill.
