Butttt i did get to try their beef tartare, unfortunately it wasn't as amazing as i hoped it was BUT aesthetics 10/10. I would have preferred for the pear to be more finely sliced instead of it being such big chunks. The dish was missing a bit of flavour. You'll know once you try. There definitely was a generous amount of beef though i do admit. Side dishes did not disappoint! Cheese corn is always a hit almost at any korean place ive been to so im very glad this dish was standard good! I would have loved the tteokboki a bit more but the rice cakes weren't as bouncy and chewy as i would like and the flavour wasn't like sunk into it. The dish was definitely spicy and there wasn't all that much cheese either. I think the stir fried chicken udon was my fave . The menu overall had a good selection and prices were pretty standard, portions are pretty big so be mindful and can easily share. Decor was cute, washroom was clean. Parking is pretty manageable. Service was 10/10. They take all payments. Restaurant is pretty small so i highly recommend you make resos if you know in advance you want to go. we came here for dinner on a thursday at 6:15 pm, a party of four with resos made by phone the night before. na re is a cozy, family run korean restaurant along edmonds. couldn't help but notice how busy it is the few times we were in the neighbourhood. we were seated right away and felt welcomed from the start. they brought out four types of banchan, and the kimchi was especially solid, bold, balanced, well seasoned and fermented. we ordered the half and half fried chicken, and both styles were great. the og was super crispy and juicy, while the saucy version had a nice sweetness that didn't overwhelm. loved that it came out hot and fresh. our server recommended the pork belly, which leaned more chewy than tender. not quite melt in your mouth, but still tasty and nicely seasoned, especially with the veggies underneath. the accompanying dipping sauces enhanced the dish. we appreciated when our server decided to add another table to accommodate the dishes and make more room. the bibimbap came topped with an egg and had a good mix of textures. we're spoiled and used to having it mixed for us, but no complaints, it was flavourful and satisfying. overall, a solid spot for comforting, homestyle korean food with friendly service and a relaxed vibe. would come back to try the tofu soup, bulgogi, and if adventurous enough, perhaps the marinated crabs next time. read more

We have tried dining at this restaurant twice before and was grossly disappointed with their service both times. We didn't have a reservation, put our name down on the waiting list and waited outside. While we waited, we noticed multiple tables had the table uncleared, even though patrons were long gone (for at least 20+ mins). We waited for 45 mins and left as this showed how inefficient they are. We finally came back after a long break. This time, with reservation, and this completely changed our experience. The server is nice, we sat down right away. The 4 of us ordered Tofu Soup, marinated raw crab, fried chicken, Na-re Bulgogi noodles. Everything tasted very very good. I'd definitely recommend trying marinated raw crab if you've never had it before. It's very rich in flavor. My biggest recommendation is, if you want to come here, make a reservation! Everything was great here! The flavors were lovely, the pricing was reasonable, and the service was strong. I got the beef tartare, which comes with an egg yolk and some slices of fruit. This was very refreshing. I also got the raw marinated crab. This came with 7 pieces, with a good amount of crab meat and a soy marinade. The bulgogi noodle also came with an egg yolk, and it was nice and flavorful. And then lastly, I had the chicken and tteokbokki combination, and the fried chicken was crispy and moist. Finally tried this place after getting zero service back in 2022 and they have vastly improved their service. I would say they need to update their reservation methods as I called in to make a reservation which isn't such a problem since they do not have online reservations but it seems like their phones don't work. Someone had to call me back and asked if I had called the restaurant and I was told sometimes their phones don't work. I feel like they would lose a few customers if people aren't able to make reservations, especially for big parties. Small restaurant. Only 1 server but he was very attentive and they were very friendly. I made early reservations so there weren't many people when we ate but I know it can get quite busy, so I'm not sure if the one server would be enough later in the evening. We ordered the following: Marinated raw crab: 4/5 the flavour is good and it comes with rice. I feel like you definitely have to eat it with the rice as the crab is too rich on its own. Na-Re special bugolgi noodle: 5/5 tasty. The only thing is I would rather have a different type of noodle. They went with spaghetti and although the flavour is nice, the spaghetti threw me off just a bit. Still 5/5 for flavour. Half & half fried chicken: 5/5 original and sweet and spicy. Juicy, crispy, and fresh. No issues here. Came with a sweet mustard mayo onion. Spicy tofu soup with beef: 5/5 I didn't have much of it but my family loved it. They gave it a 5/5. The only downfall with the food is that I wish they can automatically with the multiple sides we usually get in Korean restaurants. They asked if we wanted more sides but I wasn't sure what they were talking about other than the onions that came with the fried chicken. I realized later that they might have been asking if we wanted sides... But by then we were more than half way done our dinner and we were all getting pretty full. I love the Korean mini side dishes, so I would have loved to have tried it if they had served it to use in the beginning of our meal. I've had Na-Re on my list to check out in my neighbourhood for sometime now. We live about 5 minutes drive from the location. Only street parking and can get busy, near the Edmonds community centre. After reading from other reviews how small it is and how lines can be long to get in, we decided to come before it opened on a Sunday. No issue, arrived 2 minutes before opening no one else there but us. The restaurant is cute and clean, probably sat around 30 people. Service was great and friendly. We ordered half & half KFC $30 with original and sweet and spicy. It was ok wasnt the best KFC Ive gad but it was good. It had a lot of batter in my option not enough chicken. We also had dolsot bibimbap it was really good lots of fresh veggies and very filling, the sauce came on the side. We also received several side dishes, loved the kimchi. Tasty Korean place along the stretch of Edmonds with all the other Korean places. Parking is available but quite limited on the street. There is a lot next to the building complex (several doors down) that is actually for all the businesses here. The place is quite tiny. Maybe 25 seats at most. Very cozy atmostphere. Staff are very friendly and professional. Appetizers - kimchi, marinated potatoes, kimchi turnip, and flavoured bean sprouts. The portions were really small, so my friends and I wiped everything out several times. Fortunately they didn't mind refilling. Chicken porridge - there's a reason this thing is so cheap. It is snack sized. I didn't try it. Friends and I had a good laugh. See photo. Beef bulgogi - not covered in sauce, which was unexpected, but it tasted fine. Spicy octopus - yup this thing was spicy. Decent sized portion. Octopus was nice and rubbery (yes I actually prefer this). Seafood pancake - crisp and tasty as well. I guess my only complaint was that the portions are a wee bit on the small side. While everything was tasty, I left hungry. Something to keep in mind. With that said, the quality is there. I have been wanting to try this place since it opened earlier this year, before covid hits. Glad I got the chance to try as some friends wanted to try the different korean joints in the Edmonds area. Unfortunately I was not very hungry as it was a last minute thing. So I had the chicken porridge and shared the seafood pancake with the others. I was curious about the chicken porridge as I heard from others it was good (not here but at other korean restaurants). I wanted to try and see if it was any different from the Chinese chicken porridge (congee). It came in a small bowl which at $9, seemed very pricey. It was tasty but it was no difference from other Asian chicken porridge. It tasted like what I usually made at home. So skip this if you can make it. The seafood pancake was one of the better ones I had. It was crispy but pillowy soft and filled with chunks of seafood. It was not those minuscule seafood bits like other place. Not oily too. $19 was a bit high but at least it was good. Oh and it was my first time trying milkis and I liked it. Very refreshing drink. I will definitely be back to try other dishes. Ordered take out from Na-Re after seeing these great reviews and it is definitely worth the 5 stars! The staff were extremely pleasant over the phone AND in person being accommodating and friendly. The food itself is stellar and we tried a lot of dishes. My favourite was the black bean paste noodle which was savoury and delicious but not too salty or overbearing since we could adjust the amount of sauce we poured on top. The soft tofu soup had plenty of tofu in a classic tofu soup while the bulgogi stew was also extremely tasty with a reasonable amount of beef. My family really enjoyed the spicy pork stir fry as well but I found the price a bit high for the portion size. The kimchi fried rice was also good! Unfortunately, we picked up our food a bit late (not their fault, all ours) and the fried chicken and seafood pancake had gotten a bit cold. The half and half fried chicken remained delicious without a heat up and we really enjoyed the sauce they had since it was not too sweet or spicy! The pieces had a little bit more fat on them than I like but it wasn't as fatty as places we have tried previously. On the other hand, I found the seafood pancake to be quite oily although my brother really enjoyed it. The pancake was a nice texture on the inside and with a crisp in the oven, wasnt soggy. They also added quite a few pieces of seafood inside and it was very tasty! Visited Na-Re Korean Kitchen a few weeks ago and what a lovely reminder it was of my visit to Korea! We ordered the Ganjang Gejang + Seafood Pancake + Fried Shrimp + Jjajangmyun. I still remember my persistence in trying the cold raw soy crab located in Gangnam in the gruelling cold November weather in Korea! It was so nice to see this dish locally and surprisingly I enjoyed this one at Na-Re even more! It was marinated with the perfect amount of soy sauce and sweetness without overpowering the freshness of the crab! We also quite enjoyed the other dishes too but the soy crab was most definitely the highlight of the meal! The restaurant is located right in between the new King Crossing development and the Edmonds Community Centre. It's at a prime location to be very busy once King Crossing is finished. The store front is a bit minimal as it is only marked with a small sign, but the inside decor is modern and have about 8 small tables. They have a relatively diverse and sizable menu for a small restaurant. We ordered a Dolsot Bibimbap, which is rice topped with vegetables, mushroom, and beef served with red pepper paste in a hot stone pot. It was the perfect food for a cold winter night. We also ordered the Fried Chicken with "half & half" flavors, which means we can choose two sauces for the chicken. We picked OG (original) and Sweet & Spicy. I really like this place, it's small but cozy. Also they aren't open very long and have very few tables but it's pretty good here when you do get a table. I liked their Korean side dishes with kimchi, bean sprouts and my most favourite one, the potato one! (Although it's more on the firm side-I'd like it more soft but hey it's unlimited if you ask for more so no complaint) We got the sweet and spicy chicken which was so delicious! That's my favourite type, the yangnyeom style. It's pretty similar to the chicko chicken that's also close by but I'd actually prefer this restaurant because it was so tender and saucy, I think this is my fave for chicken! Also they have pickled radish which was good you could tell it's fresh and crunchy! It felt like such a feast, the place is small so only one waitress I could tell it's busy for them so it's kinda hard to ask for things but they are still accommodating. The soondubu had a lot of tofu and meat in it which is great, also an egg that cooks inside it so that was yummy and the dolsot bibimbap is something I would definitely recommend because it cooks in the stone bowl, it's very hot and the rice becomes crispy (like Rice Krispies) I actually had a very wonderful experience here and love that it's a small business and by the end of closing the chef that prepared the food came to greet the customer and asked how everything was and she was really nice. Beef tartar was the best! Nice portion and good price! Great value vs others as well! Next time I go, I'd suggest to julienne the sweet pears because it's best eaten this way with the beef. I don't normally like chicken without bones, but I'll have to surrender to them here! Juicy and crispy with just the right amount of spice! For dipping sauces are mango, Matcha, sweet, & cheese. I enjoyed matcha and green the most! Without dipping sauce was great already, but these odd combinations got me addicted and already thinking of going back in a heartbeat! Regretfully, the seafood pancake though, to me was a complete failure . Tasted weird and the thick batter was soggy. I request to cook it again hoping will taste better, but the result was the same. Earlier this year, I noticed a new Korean restaurant on Edmonds Street in the former haunts of iThai so I dropped by for a visit in early January. The interior is a bit spartan in terms of decor but the servers were friendly and helpful. On my first visit, I wanted to try a couple of things to see how their menu stacked up so I ordered the Seafood Pancake ($17) and Chicken Katsu ($13). While the seafood pancake didn't look too crispy, I thought the mix of seafood and green onions turned out pretty good. The chicken katsu came with banchan, salad, and soup. Again, a fairly respectful rendition with boneless breaded chicken (although it's not like the Japanese version of curry chicken katsu). Something that's probably more well known as Korean-style food is their Half and Half Fried Chicken (I picked their Original and Sweet Soy flavours $24). This actually takes a while to make and it was probably a good 20 minutes before it came out. Suffice it to say, this was a really large bowl of fried chicken. I think I preferred the OG version better as the soy version didn't seem to be as moist. The soy version kind of reminded me of a deep-fried sweet and sour chicken with glaze over it. But the OG version had tender and juicy meat inside a perfectly crisp outer shell. The dish also came with a dipping salt and pickled daikon. My next meal here turned out to be an order of Japchae ($17) with beef, mushrooms, peppers, onions, carrots, and green onions. Again, a very big plate so this can be quite filling. On my last visit here in early March, I noticed their menu appeared slightly different. This time, I tried their Dolsot Bibimbap ($14) served in a hot stone bowl and topped with a fried egg. Usually, I prefer when this comes with a raw egg so you can cook it in the bowl but I feel like the bowl wasn't super hot and the rice didn't get overly crispy so perhaps it was better that the egg was fried. In any case, the yolk was nice and runny. It was a fairly good bibimbap and you can ask for more hot sauce to mix with your rice. Overall, the food here is pretty good and service was friendly. Friday night and was not busy at all as only one table of 6 was having dinner...good for us as waiting for seats suck. It was only two of us, we didn't order much so this review was based on two dishes and a drink. I ordered the Kalguksu..noodle in soup with minced beef and veggies. The broth was flavorful, noodles were chewy and well cooked, but felt that there could be more veggies and beef compared to the amount of noodles given. I finished all the broth, so yeah pretty good. I asked for chilis and they gave me green chilies which I wasn't expecting, but added good heat. The other dish was Dduckbaegi Bulgogi, flavorful brother and perfect with the rice provided. Lots of meat and vegetables. My friend ordered the Soju cocktail...definitely more Soju than expected...which is good for the lushes..:) Banchan consisted of kimchi, beam sprouts and shredded kelp. Na-Re has an unassuming store front, but their Korean fried chicken is anything but. What a pleasant gem to have found in my neighborhood during this pandemic! Because I ordered takeout, I'm not able to speak to the level of service. (Note: you can order both takeout and delivery on their Skip the Dishes page!) I'm here to speak about the sheer deliciousness of Na-Re's soy sauce fried chicken - savory, crunchy, and oh-so-juicy. Pair it with the complimentary cubed pickled radishes that come with it, and prepare yourself for a match made in heaven. My picnicking partner took the leftovers home, and her dad called it "unbelievable" and that he wanted to buy in bulk and store it. At $25, it's not the cheapest dish on the block, but the portion size is quite generous. The black bean sauce noodles were also decent - not the best I've had, but pretty standard (and a decent deal at $11). It reminded me of the jjajangmyeon you can order to be delivered to your house or office in Seoul: cheap, average, but does the job. It's the fried chicken that definitely stole the show for me. If youre looking for korean home style cuisine this place would be it. I ordered the kimchi fried rice, beef kimpab, LA style ribs, and cheese tteokboki. The banchan consisted of marinated sliced fish cakes, marinated soy sauced potatos, and kimchi. They were very generous with the portions and kept refilling them every time we chowed down on them. They were delicious and we couldnt help but eat them all. The kimchi was delicious. It is flavorful, spicy, and fresh- in fact the owner informed that she makes it herself! The bulgolgi rice can be shared by two people. There was plenty of meat with purple rice. The meat was seasoned well and not greasy. The cheese tteokboki was my favorite. This was the most flavorful tteokboki i ever had with a good amount of spicyness. This is comfort food. I have eaten a lot of tteokboki in vancouver and this is definately at the top. They didnt cheap out on the rice cakes and fish cakes. The rice cakes were so chewy. They added some pieces of deep fried chicken as well. I noticed that they torched their cheese giving that extra smoky, umami flavor. The ratio between the rice and filling with the kimbap was perfect. They didnt skimp out on the filling and they used purple grain rice. It was seasoned well and tasted fresh. You can taste all the ingredients. The LA style ribs was tasty. It comes with a side of purple rice. If youre new to korean food, you will like this. The kimchi fried rice portions were huge. Typically other korean restaurants would melt cheese on top of rice, but this was layered in cheese. Its super yummy. Everything I have tried so far was seasoned well and very flavorful. LONG WAITS FOR FOOD! BUT AMAZING CHICKEN It took almost an hour for our Korean fried chicken to come out, this is the longest wait for any restaurant and I've been to fancy, medium price to even small businesses. I've been to a lot of Korean fried chicken places too. They need to have batches ready to fry or multiple frying stations. Whatever they can do because it's ridiculous. If the restaurant is more packed I could imagine you waiting for 2 hours lol! My favourite dish here is their mixed fried chicken (soy and spicy) , BUT due to their wait I'll never come here again unless it gets better. Waiting for food is not ideal for any businesses. Their tofu soup seafood is bland, but have a lot of ingredients which is on the plus side. They should have more broth , spicier and more flavours. We were so hungry that it was getting uncomfortable but also having an empty table close to others (seats are VERY close to others) while the other table was filled with food doesn't help lol. Na-Re Korean Kitchen is a nice place. It's a small restaurant. They can't accommodate too large of a group. I say 6-8 is considered a large enough group for this place. After that if the groups are much bigger than you'll be sitting on different tables. Ambiance is nice and simple. Nothing too decorative. But there is a simplicity to the ambiance. The staff is very kind and attentative to our dining needs. They are respectful and very aware when we are trying to get their attention. They only have one server. The fried chicken here is FANTASTIC! It was crispy, but not overly crispy that it was hard to bite into. The flavor was awesome. Only gripe I had was that we tried their special and it really was basically their original chicken with three separate sauces - honey garlic, honey mustard and mango chili. Wasn't a huge fan of the mango chili sauce. And they did not give us a lot of sauce. But we had thought that the chicken was going to be marinated in the sauce. So that was unfortunate. Other than that. We had no complaints about the food. It was so well done. We ordered three orders of fried chicken. We were very full afterwards. Korean restaurants in general are not cheap. They are generally on the pricier side of things. And so it was not a shock to see the bill being as high as it was. Decided to get some take out and try out yet another Korean fried chicken place that I have not yet tried. They are available on doordash but to avoid the delivery fees best to order ahead and pick up if possible. We did get it piping hot when it arrived so it was fresh. We got the half and half boneless chicken order consisting of the sweet and spicy flavour and the soy sauce flavour. We also got the japchae. I LOVED the soy sauce flavour chicken as it was almost like a honey garlic. The texture of the skin was particularly different than most KFCs I've tried. The texture I would describe as crispy vs crunchy. The skin was thin but had great ' fried' flavour. The sweet and spicy was also good, not unbearably spicy and more sweet which I was happy with. My partner thought the sweet and spicy was not spicy enough ( and he has a light tongue for heat). We both liked the japchae as it was the right balance of flavour and lots of beef ! Some japchaes from other places I have felt was either more bland or too salty or too vinegary. The japchae was a great portion for the price - lasted us three days ( used as a side)!
