My initial horror deepened at finding the extra Apple iCloud space I was paying for did not include my laptop data. Thanks to some online advice, I searched for a local Mac recovery specialist instead of taking it into an Apple Store, and found MacTronics, with high ratings and glowing reviews. On their next open day I spoke with Terri on the phone, who gave me the quote for their diagnostic fee (very reasonable). I brought the laptop in that day and left it, having agreed that my primary concern was recovery of the data. A little later that day, Terri called to say the tech found the data was recoverable and would need a backup drive; Terri walked me through finding an inexpensive one on Amazon, delivered directly to them the following day. She also provided the estimate for that work, which included the amount of the initial fee. (Still super reasonable, since I was worried I'd have to buy a new laptop!) Meanwhile, the tech would continue to work on cleaning up the laptop insides, keyboard and trackpad. Terri called the next day to let me know they had received the drive and the tech was backing up my data. The following day she called to say it was ready for me to pick up. She detailed the work that had been done, providing screen shots showing all hardware tests passed. She also said some keys and the trackpad had some residual stickiness, but were still usable. The tech said it was not cost effective to replace the keyboard and trackpad, but did show the cost if I wanted to. His recommendation if the stickiness was too bothersome was to use an inexpensive external keyboard. He also set up Time Machine on the backup drive and had done two backups. Terri walked me through everything he had done and showed me how to use the drive, recommending backups every week or two weeks. Then I made sure my data was being backed up to the cloud. Terri checked in with me a few days later to make sure all was well. I am so grateful to the folks at MacTronics!

I made an appointment with the geniuses but then thought I might be better served using someone independent and local. apple has enough of my Money and there is something I find appealing about spending money in my community and keeping it here in town. Anyway I call mactronics and the person I talked to was so plainly honest I drove straight over. When I got there Teresa informed me I had apple care when I'd been expecting to spend grand, which sent me in to tears of joy. (Bad day) The best way I can describe my experience is to say mactronics provide the type of service you were accustomed to 30yrs ago but simply doesn't exist anywhere anymore. A few hrs after dropping it off Teresa called me with an update. (Who does update calls anymore???) "Sara your part has been ordered and I need to confirm your cross street." (My cross street????) Yes they're planning to deliver your fixed laptop to your house. (Me: Tears again) I think these people might secretly be angels sent here to fix bad days.

As a student at UT, I am truly unimpressed with their level of service. I submitted an online ticket and dropped off my laptop. I heard no update all weekend or on Monday, so I called on Tuesday morning when they opened at 10 a.m., stating I would be picking up my laptop and looking at other places to get an estimate. SURE ENOUGH someone had picked up my laptop right after I left a voicemail stating I was unsatisfied with the timeframe, received no updates on my laptop, and was taking my business elsewhere. I was charged $50 for someone to "look at it" when I didn't want the service anymore. I had to pay the $50 to get the laptop, and I called THREE different numbers multiple times to stop the process, but that was clearly ignored.  This business is no good for UT students who need their laptops fixed quickly, efficiently, and at a reasonable price. They were going to charge me $300 for service and replacement. In comparison, I went down the street to 1Up Repairs and was quoted $170.  Overall, I am frustrated with receiving no updates, finally getting in contact with someone after the service I did not want was completed, and the service charge of $50 that was not known unless you scroll to the very bottom of the website and then it states it in very small letters. They scam people out of $50 and try to say, "It says it on the website and every time we call." Well, I never received a call back from the 15 calls and voicemails I left until the inspection was completed, so I never got to hear that they would charge me $50 for an inspection.

I found That Bytes online and told him this would be a good place to go based on reviews and proximity to our home. It's been 2 months and we can't get in touch with him to get it back. We've tried countless times to check in on progress. His listed phone number goes unanswered, and we can't leave voicemails. When we are able to connect with him in person he can't seem to ever provide a date at which it will be completed or even produce the hard drive for us to take it elsewhere. While sitting in the parking lot around 1:30 PM today waiting for his arrival another family came by with the same problem and were super bummed when we told him he was MIA. His door says he opens at 9ish in the morning but his schedule can change without notice, so it's very difficult to catch him even during typical working hours. At this point I'm wondering if he's ok? Or maybe he just needs some consulting on proper expectation setting and communication cadences for running a customer facing business. Please give us back the hard drive.

I work in software/databases, so I am pretty familiar with computers. However, I am not very…read moreknowledgeable or comfortable tearing my computer open to go through the hardware and try and swap pieces out. That being said, I had a serious framerate issue with my gaming desktop, and was doing troubleshooting on it for two weeks. I consulted Reddit, I wiped everything besides the BIOS, ran plenty of diagnostics, gave it a good dusting, but nothing fixed the issue. I finally decided to take it in and have someone look at the hardware, realizing most likely I had a busted chord or fan somewhere that would need to be replaced. I gave Scott a rundown, and he told me he would call me when he figured it out. He called me ten minutes later, so quickly I did not see the call until they had already closed. I then worked the rest of the week with Alicia who did all the replacements for my cooling system, graphics card and power core. Just got it home and have my computer running better than when I first bought it due to the new upgrades. I cannot recommend them enough, they are very knowledgeable and Alicia is a saint. They will figure out what is going on, and you hopefully won't need to wait three weeks for an appointment like other stores I had consulted previously
