    Raspberry Pacski

This seems like a "if you know you know" kind of place. I was on the hunt for Pacskis to surprise my husband and my search led me to this place. We got 2 raspberry and 1 lemon and a treat for our pup. Cute little neighborhood spot, and the lady who helped us was so sweet. Looked like they had a variety of other treats, a lot of Valentines themed cookies, and donuts. We will for sure go back!

Assortment of pastries and donuts for $10 and change!

A couple years ago, a friend and I were traipsing around town on a Monday snow day from work, and decided to head to My Old World Bakery. He didn't realize they're closed on Mondays, so we lost out. I new I wanted to try their offerings, so I kept them in my bookmarks for safe keeping. Fast forward 2 years, I saw Cameron's ROTD, just so happened I was headed to that side of town for lunch, so I planned a detour stop. Jan was such a delight! She was working the front, manning all the baked goods. Pleasant lady. Sent a good bit of time chatting about the neighborhood happenings, and what not. I got several things to-go, including a few custard filled donuts, cinnamon roll, a glazed knot, and a cinnamon twist. I had an expired Groupon to use for the $10 face value, and that got me something like 8 donuts. PS, the price is very reasonable for these fresh, handmade baked goodies. FYIndulgence: The Chocolate glazed Custard and Apple Fritter are, at its core, the most delectable donuts by far! Soft and not dry. The custard is not of that fake cheap ass sugar taste. Oh the Fritter, mmmm. Both I warmed and ate with a glass of milk - dessert for breakfast!! Everything is made fresh daily in the back of their space. There's a giant window for watching the baking process. I'm always a sucker for the quality independently owned businesses, and My Old World Bakery fits that category to the T. Good thing MOW is on the opposite side of town. Self-discipline would be worthless!!

Ya'll... Ya'll.... Ya'll. I'm giving it up to this small like bakery wonder to the west-side. The inlaws lived near this part of town as kids, and what prompted my stop was them saying that back in the 50's/60's this bakery was good. That's a long time running, and while I didn't ask the lady currently running if it was still in family hands, or transitioned, to me the taste did speak for itself. Being old is never a bad thing. So this place doesn't really have the fondant masterpieces, or modern cookie decorating skills, but that's not so terrible. Everything reminded me of bakeries from my younger years that my Grandparents would have frequented. The smell of sugar and baked breads hits you upon entering. Unfortunately, the owner apologized as she was almost sold out in one display case from a very busy day! The donuts were kaput, so we opted for pastries and cookies. There were still plenty of pies, cakes, and other confectioneries to choose from. Whoever said this place is a 'Stick to your ribs' kinda of place is correct. This is not the light, and flaky, subtle french pastries. This is the ... I ate half a cookie... why is there a brick in my stomach... Kinda place. I need a nap now. The pastry that stole my heart was the 'Beehive' (Aka Bees-ting Cake)-- A German layered pastry of sweet flaky goodness filled with custard and topped with honey, and toasted, sliced almonds pieces. Delightful is an understatement. I was 'wow'ed. It made me add the extra star to my review for that baked good alone. If your down in the hood... you really need to stop. It's nothing appeasing to the eye, but the real wow factor is in the taste. Very glad I stopped by and I'll continue to do so.

Maple pecan twist is delicious. Soft with a sweet maple glaze and crunchy pecans to top. This was beautiful down and tasted fantastic. If you're a pecan lover this is for you. I'd highly recommend. Pumpkin morning bun was phenomenal. This is one of the best pumpkin pastries I've ever had. A true pumpkin flavor with a soft buttery pastry. I'd insist on this item. Crème Brûlée Eclair was good. I think the issue is with the chocolate they use for the mocha but it had such an odd flavor that I couldn't bring myself to finish it. The croissant was fine and not memorable and I won't say too much on the macaron because I think I just realized I'm not really a macaron person so I can't fairly judge them there. The cafe is itty bitty and there is absolutely no seating inside so it's more of a grab and go situation. There are a few seats outside so hopefully you can snag a seat when the weather is nicer. Overall, I think there are a lot of other good coffee shops in Columbus that I don't see myself going out of my way to come back.

When you walk in you pull a number and wait for it to be called. Almost felt like I had walked into the DMV. lol We peeked at the display counters while we waited and tried to have our orders ready when it was our turn to expedite the wait for those after us. There were a few shelves that displayed various cookies, breads and things you could grab and go. The place was clean and the process was orderly. They seemed to keep things in the front stocked. We probably waited about 15 minutes. I pulled number 90 and the were calling the last of the 60's. We ordered several items to try including the packzis with three different fillings since we went at the right time of year for these. We grabbed a cheese, strawberry and lemon. We also chose a cheese danish, maple cream stick, apple fritter, cherry turnover and a donut stick. Once we told them what we wanted the girl helping us went to the back and started filling our box. A few moments later she returned, we paid and headed out the door with our sweets. My husband didn't want to wait so we opened up the box once we got to the car and each took one bite from each of our selections. We didn't find anything wrong with our choices. The one thing I was thrown off by is how they make their apple fritters. I almost missed ordering one bc they look nothing like the apple fritters I'm used to eating. It was just ok in my book. Not something I would get again. The donut stick on the other hand is something I wouldn't miss next time. In fact I'd be getting more than one. It was probably my favorite item of all we selected. The cream stick dough was soft. The cream wasn't too sweet. The only thing I would have changed was to have the maple icing be a bit more maple flavored. The turnover was nice and crispy flakey but the filling was just ok. Maybe a different flavor next time if I would get one. How can you go wrong with a cheese danish? Warm this slightly and you're hitting a home run. This was a nice stop and we learned the difference between what we liked and loved. We know just what to get next time. I will say they have a great social media presence and do a phenomenal job interacting with their customers and community.

We enjoy their products and welcome Resch's to Gahanna. We are highly confident Resch's would be even more successful if they took two actions: 1. Open for business at least by 7:00 a.m. 2. Offer the option of traditional no-filling Chocolate and Vanilla frosted Long John donuts. -- market data supports this and shows .... Based on: * Sampling of 100+ independent bakery hours across U.S. cities * Regional bakery association listings * Yelp/Google Business hour patterns * Known bakery business models A realistic, data‑grounded estimate is: Only about 10-15% of neighborhood bakeries open at 8:00 a.m. or later. Further market data shows... Bakeries that offer only filled Long Johns are extremely uncommon. Why unfilled Long Johns almost always remain on the menu * They serve the "less sweet" customer segment. * They pair well with coffee (important for morning sales). * They are cheaper to produce and have fewer failure points. * They are the "default bar donut" in many regions. Even bakeries that push filled varieties keep unfilled bars because they sell steadily and require no additional labor. --- Bottom-line conclusion Bakeries that offer only filled Long Johns are very rare -- probably under 5% of all bakeries. The overwhelming majority offer both, with filled varieties outnumbering unfilled but not replacing them.
