I consider myself a cupcake connoisseur so I was apprehensive about this place when I walked in and saw dog treats amongst the offerings. Could they make cupcakes for me and Fido?? Answer: Yes! The prices were a bit steep for the size of the cupcake, but I liked that they offered mini and full size treats. They had a wide assortment of flavors including seasonal. My favorite was the raspberry merlot seasonal. I tried a mini which was the perfect bite with a blend of raspberry filling and chocolate ganache. I loved how all of the cupcakes had some type of surprise middle, like the unexpected ball of cookie dough in the middle of the chocolate chip cookie dough. I was so excited to see that Fantasy was open for limited hours during quarantine to do pick ups for order boxes. The boxes went quick (sold out in three hours online) so I won't get . They had the coffee and milkshake bar open during pick up hours and I knew I had to be there to A) support one of my favorite local business and B) to get my favorite beverage! I didn't realize how much I needed this outside (in a mask, with disinfectant) interaction until I walked in and saw Leah's smiling face. Honestly if you were to ask me the truth I think I may have gotten a little misty-eyed under the mask. I got my favorite drink, a caramel and vanilla iced latte, and went on my way. Once again I was so thankful for this opportunity to visit one of my local favorites during this time as I have so much love for Fantasy Cupcake and the staff that welcomes me with a smile. I have had a few different types of cupcakes from Fantasy, their chocolate mint and lemon poppyseed. Both are DELICIOUS and packed with flavor. I was hesitant about the mint icing at first, but it was so good!! Honestly best cupcake I've ever had. I have gone back many times and EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. they are sold out or unavailable which is super frustrating. Especially since they are not located near my house. It's easily a 30 minute drive just to be let down. After going back and them being out AGAIN, I caved and tried the only thing they had left that sounds up my tasty alley. The lemon poppy seed. I can say with completely certainty that I've never had a lemon poppy seed delicatessen with that much flavor. It packs a mouth watering PUNCH! I did try a bite of my sister's Buckeye cupcake, just not a fan of the peanut butter icing. I have to say you can't tell the difference between their gluten free and regular cakes. I have used Fantasy Cupcake for many custom orders for events. Always easy to work with and friendly. Just place your orders far enough in advance. The lemon poppyseed cupcake is THE GOAT. They have lots of gluten free options and they are all wonderful. I am pretty sure I have tried every GF cupcake and coffee cake options they have. I do love the cinnamon coffee cake as well. My first review was closer to their initial opening, I can say with certain that they've developed into a great local sweets shop/catering business! Their name is out and about, especially around the Canal/Pickerington area. I've been to several events on the southeast side of Columbus that are sporting Fantasy's cupcakes. Yes, their cake batter is moist and flavorful. The icing used is made from scratch, light and they don't douse the cupcakes with icing - a personal pet peeve. A wonderful treat! Their new location, three doors down from their old, much-to-small, space is great: tall ceiling, white and brick walls, a nice serving counter that incorporates several display cases; several tables and chairs line the opposite wall. Their gluten free offerings are in a separate area, which keeps stuff apart so no cross-contamination. The only thing holding me back from giving 5 stars? Their cupcakes are small for the price. There's not much to say about Fantasy Cupcake other than - WOW! So so good. Their sugar cookie is the best I've ever had and their selection of cupcakes flavors has something for everyone! Cute store, I was so happy to discover there is a cupcake place in Columbus I hadn't tried yet. Their hours are generous, until 8pm so perfect for and after work drive to Canal Winchester. I got there at about 5 pm and they still had all flavors left, about 10 in all plus 3 different kinds of cake pops. The cupcakes are $3 each and pretty big, the cake pops $1.50. They look beautiful and it was again a tough choice but I managed to cover all the bases with only getting half a dozen. The highlights were buckeye and blueberry lemon. Buckeye is always a winner in my book and had the best frosting out of all of them. Lemon Blueberry a yummy lemon candy on top and good blueberry filling. All of the cakes could have been more sweet, it tasted like they forgotthe sugar in the cake batter completly and put it in the frosting instead. Maybe if I wouldn't have treid the bottoms first and then had the tops with only half the cake it would have been better. The frosting was way too sweet ( thats saying alot since nothing is ususally too sweet for me), so sweet in fact it had crucnchy sugar cristals in it, not so good. I had banana split, salted caramel, birthday cake and snickerdoodle, all sound and looked fantastic, the only flavor I got though was the too much sugar and nothing much else. I discovered this place years ago and it's shameful I haven't wrote this review and stopped in for almost a year. Fantasy Cupcake is family owned bakery in the heart of Canal Winchester. Last time I stopped in they were a few doors up from their current location but obviously their reputation is growing and doing well and it doesn't surprise me at all. They now serve coffee and have other bakery goodies to choose from like brownies and cookies. But their cupcakes are where it's at!!!!!!
