This week It had been about 20 years since I last ate at Murrays and just like then, I am glad is was a business lunch so I did not have to pay for the Dog Chow they served us!! Ordered the Blue Cheese & Bacon burger, Medium. What I got was a dried out well done meat puck with burnt bacon and some horrible blue cheese slop on the burger. And I say this as I do stuff my own blue cheese olives for martinis at home. I also found it hilarious that they advertise house made chips but they use frozen fries from a bag??? They may have updated the interior a bit but it still smells like a damp old folks home and I still wouldnt feed that food to my dog... I was staying at the Embassy Suites next door and decided to walk over because I really wanted a good steak. I had seen some of the reviews on Yelp and stopped by yesterday. However, being a Monday the restaurant was closed. I stopped in about 6:30 and it took a few minutes for the hostess to notice me. I was only a party of one. She told me the dining room was filled but I could go seat myself in the bar area. So, I did. No wait staff came to wait on me. But I did make eye contact with the bartender. She came over and took my order. I started with the brussel sprout salad. The grilled garlic toast was great. The brussel sprouts were cut in such a way that some pieces were larger and hard to chew. I ordered the dinner steak, 8 oz sirloin, medium. When it came out I thought wow, this looks good but as I cut into it, it was almost well done. There was really no flavor. Some of the outside tasted burnt. It was a huge disappointment. Since I checked in via Yelp, I was able to get a free dessert. So, I got the raspberry pie since I had seen so many pictures of this dessert. I must say, this was the best part of my meal. I took it to go back to my hotel. It's the saving grace that gave this review 3 stars and the bartender who waited on me otherwise, completely over priced for the meal I ordered this evening. Very nice old school steakhouse in downtown Minneapolis. Excellent wine choices. The steak to get is the strip called the butter knife steak. It was for two and came with choice of salad & potatoes. We added sautéed mushrooms which were great. And we had the Asian green beans which were some of the best I've had. Flavorful and delicious. The steak had its own seasoning blend on it but I felt that it was a bit too salty. The temperature of the meat was done perfectly. Two of us had slightly different requests on temperature and based on the table side carving of the skilled waitress, she pulled and plated medium and medium well for us expertly. Nice. Mashed potatoes were a bit cold but made a nice partner to the deliciousness of the meat and juices married with it all in a bite. The salted meat punched the potatoes up and all in all we really enjoyed the meal. Key lime pie for dessert was a great finishing touch. Very tart but good. The homemade thick cracker crust was amazing. Our waitress even brought a taste of the homemade toffee they use on top of chocolate cake since we only wanted one dessert. Visiting Minneapolis and stopped in here for dinner after a long day at work and needing a place to take the family. For context, I have a toddler. Service was top notch and the atmosphere was conducive to both family and intimate dining. Our server was very accommodating to our daughter. I had my usual NY Strip. Of course there's the Brazilian steakhouse which is good and consistent, but there was this steakhouse. I know it had three signs so I should not have been surprised of the final bill. But in looking back, I was just trying to reconcile the cost of four people of a bill a little over $600 including Wine, which was $100. Is it that good?? on a scale of one to 10 I would put it at about 7.5 in retrospect I believe I should've gone to the Brazilian steakhouse or a national chain. However, when it came to the dessert, they offered a fresh raspberry pie, which was out of this world. The service was excellent, and Maddie was our server. She did such a great job. read more

I have wanted to try this fine dining restaurant for over fifty years. My parents used to highly praise it, and they were professional cooks. The service was impeccable and attentive, the atmosphere was fine. The wine list was extensive. I was with two of my daughters and one boyfriend. They offer valet parking service every night ($18.00) I had a dirty martini that was very well made and smooth as silk. I had an 8 ounce sirloin, medium rare, some au gratin potatoes and some grilled green beans. The food was extremely well prepared and flavorful. I am worried I may never have another steak this good again (unless I return.) As Ali once stated, "It ain't bragging if it's true!" All the hype I have heard over the decades about Murray's turns out to be true. This is a high end dining experience and is priced to match. $$$$. While I can't afford to eat here often, as I am retired on a fixed income, I can easily and happily recommend Murray's. Five out of five stars. read more

Without a doubt one of the best steak dinners I've had in a while. Wife had the filet and I had the ribeye. Both steaks were perfectly cooked. I added a lobster tail ; my wife the broccolini. Awesome. The service was excellent. The staff friendly and inviting. We had salads for starters. Staffed times the main course perfectly. The restaurant is a really nice throwback, very nice atmosphere and the mirrors allow for a bit of people watching . So I have a thing for old school steakhouses and Murray's doesn't disappoint. Great wine list, French Onion Soup! Love the calming decor and low light ambience. One thing I really like about their menu is the range of prices. Yes, there are killer $75 steaks but there are also wonderful tender juicy Midwest steak options for half that. And while there are lots of expensive wines, their wines by the glass are quite acceptable and around $10. Even their excellent French Onion Soup is only $6. My point is that you can spend a lot or not and still get a delicious meal. I had onion soup (fabulous), tournedos with crab cake (meat soooo tender, very nice crab cake), and a fresh pea and mushroom vegetable of the day. Fresh raspberry pie (omg). Is this cutting edge cuisine? No. Memorable classic American steakhouse, yes. My only complaint is the uneven service, which was phenomenal the first half of the meal, and vanished as soon as my entrée came, then became fabulous again at the end :( hence 4 stars instead of 5. read more

After months of craving for good steak, we decided to dine here for our anniversary. We made reservation and was seated right away. Valet was convenient because it was so cold out ($12). You also pay for it online so no cash is needed but there is a service fee attached. Complimentary bread was provided but it was very salty. 2/5 Crab cakes- one of the best crab cakes. It tasted very fresh. Really enjoyed it. 5/5 Silver butter knife steak- since it's an award winning, we decided to order this. They carve it at the table. We ordered medium but it was more pink than we were hoping but it was good. It comes with a choice or soup or salad for each person and also 1 side. They're pretty lenient with the soup so you don't have to get the onion soup. Bf got the chicken wild rice soup which was very tasty. I really likes the Brussels sprouts. It was a thai flavor and you can definitely taste that. It's not on the menu since it was the special side that night. The au gratin was mediocre, I would recommend getting maybe mashed instead but not that one. 3/5 Steak: was disappointed especially since we came here for the steak. It was quite salty. Probably one of the saltiest steaks I have ever had. Maybe it's their signature? But I hope not. It was pink in the center so we ate the outside pieces more. We had plenty of leftovers. It actually tasted better the next day when we microwaved the steak. It was the right medium cook and for some reason didn't taste as salty then. But was still disappointed. 2/5 Dessert: we noticed that if you check in with Yelp you get a free dessert of chef's choice and it was the lemon Bundt cake. It was actually very good. Perks :). So double check your Yelp to see if the promotion is still available :) The restaurant was fully booked. Not much of social distancing when people were waiting by the lobby for their table or valet. 2/5 The service was top notch I must say. My water glass was never empty. Overall okay. Seems a bit overrated. My filet was pretty dry (requested medium rare and came out medium well). My friend ordered medium rare for her ribeye and it was definitely solidly medium as well. Usually not a big deal, but you come to a steakhouse for a steak and it isn't a cheap piece of meat. Bread basket garlic toasts were pretty salty. Mashed potatoes were ok - nothing special. The asparagus was actually surprisingly very tasty - perfectly cooked. Favorite dish was the NY cheesecake dessert - they definitely got this steakhouse staple right. Did not try the raspberry pie. The key lime pie was also good. Service was good. Would return if a friend wanted to go, but if I'm picking, I'd like to try some of the other well-known Twin Cities steakhouses first. read more

We ordered the Steak flight for 2 ( Sirloin , Ribeye & NY Strip ) All were perfectly done and are possibly the best steaks we have ever had ! Our waiter also did a great job of explaining the menu and our options for us . Just by chance we were seated at the Walter Mondale booth ( The booth is named in honor of him because he sits there every time he comes in on a weekly basis ) . Lunch Review: I joined two colleagues for a early afternoon lunch at Murray's. It was my first visit to this 76 year old Minneapolis landmark. At 1:30 in the afternoon on a cold and rainy Tuesday, business was light. But the Host who greeted us and the Server (Sara) who attended to us were friendly, prompt, attentive, and we'll trained. I ordered a Wedge Salad with Iced Tea. The tea was freshly brewed and crisp. The wedge was a departure for me, as explained by Sara it is the Upper Midwest style - combining Roquefort and French dressing (not mixed, but side by side). It was enjoyable, but I prefer the traditional (which Sara also offered when I ordered) to this regional favorite. I also would have preferred larger, more substantial bacon pieces rather than the crumbled bacon bits on this model. It was still a very nice, crisp, cold wedge salad. My colleagues gave good marks to the luncheon portion wedge salad with steak and the chicken Caesar salad. Overall a nice lunch experience. I'd like to return for dinner some evening. read more

But when it comes down to my favorite one it's still Murray's! The butter knife steak is absolutely an amazing piece of meat! This trip I was with some business partners from out of town and they asked me to pick a steakhouse. They both are steakhouse lovers and have been to many of them around this great country. They both gushed about the service, the ambiance and of course the steak. The butter knife steak cooked medium rare will absolutely melt in your mouth and is so good I'm the flavor department. Then there are the sides. I love the mashed potatoes and then loading the up with sour cream, cheese, bacon and chives! The green beans are out of this world as well! This is one place you need to add to your must hit steakhouses in America! It ranks up there with the Peter Lugars and St Elmos of the world! I know they've been in business since 1946, but there are much better steakhouses you can eat at for less money. First, if your steaks are dry aged 28 days I expect them to have a good strong beefy flavor. Second, the steaks weren't seasoned AT ALL. Third, The veggies we ordered (Brussel sprouts and green beans) we so sweet they could've been a dessert dish. Although the steaks were very tender, the lack of salt or other seasoning made them utterly bland. However, they still get 2 stars because the baked potato was perfect, crispy skin and moist fluffy interior. In short, save 30 bucks a plate and just go to Longhorn. The steaks will be almost as tender with much more flavor. read more

Classic steakhouse in every way and very reasonably priced. Love the warm house made garlic crisps/toast. Also did a great job of takeout on a second trip with a perfectly cooked rare (so it could be cooked to finish medium rare) chateaubriand that was a huge portion (4 people for lunch and leftovers) and very fairly priced. read more

I have a usual place I've been to, but this place will leave me with a tough decision when choosing going forward. I love the atmosphere here, you get a nice feel while you're eating. My wife and I went here for our anniversary. It was a wonderful experience. We were seated promptly upon arrival. Water was delivered followed by drinks ordered and our server was fantastic. The bread was buttery and salty. We ordered crab cakes to start and they were outstanding. The main course was the 24 ounce steak for 2. Carved tableside gave great presentation. Being from the Midwest we like to think we know steak and this was a superb and tender one. Then to top it off we had a small sponge cake with berries and fresh whipped cream at no cost for our anniversary from the restaurant.
