Wanted to grab a quick bite before catching my bus and stopped by to grab a drink quick bite. Was greeted very kindly and able to seat myself. Explained to the server I was looking for a good quick bite and wanted to cash out soon. It was no problem. Food was serve right away and onto my bus stop I went. They have a big menu snd the server mentioned they are known for there Reuben's. I'm personally not a fan and went with a turkey club. Which now gets me talking about their portions. I love this bar! It is your typical bar and bar food type of place. Whenever I have gone it is relatively busy, not so busy that you cannot grab a seat but it is good company. The food is good, typical bar food! Whenever I don't know where I'm going to go I always end up here. The vibe is always good and people are laughing and having fun. Drinks are solid. I always get a gin and tonic and they aren't shy with the gin. Also, I normally get top shelf and I can confirm they do not replace their top shelf with cheaper liquors like other bars! read more

Came in on Sunday and was able to get a seat at the bar. The bartender was excellent. Good selection of beers on draft. They have a soup and 1/2 sandwich combo with good selections. The Clam chowder was very good. The cheeseburger had 2 patties, cooked medium just as I ordered. Flavor was very good. The steak fries almost stole the show. We stopped here for lunch after it was recommended by local hotel staff. It was fairly busy but we were seated right away. However, the food took a very long time to reach our table. The kind waitress brought us some tasty house pickles to enjoy while we waited. Honestly, the food for all four of us was just so-so.. My cold caprese wrap was nothing special- seemed thrown together and olive oil was leaking out each time I took a bite. It would have been better if it had less oil (better drained mozzarella balls) and was heated so that the cheese was a bit melted. The Caesar salad was also not very tasty - just ok. My husband and I went back in the evening because we heard it was fun there at night. We sat at the bar to watch games and the whole place was hopping with business! My husband had wings and really enjoyed them. The bartenders were very friendly and attentive. We would go again the next time we are in Providence for an evening outing. read more

We stayed at the Residence Inn and Murphy's Providence was suggested to us by the hotel staff. This quaint Irish pub is conveniently located right around the corner from the hotel so we walked. Murphy's has a decent beer list and our food (the Steak and Cheese sandwich with side salad, and the Murphy's Rueben with kettle chips) were really tasty. My wife was able to order the 1/2 sandwich and soup (clam chowder) from the lunch menu but for dinner, which she appreciated. Murphy's serves cucumbers in brine when you sit down, which is a refreshing starter. Patrick served us and was quite friendly and accommodating. He surprised us with some extra cucumbers to take back to the hotel, which was a very nice gesture. We suggest you stop in for a beer and a bite! It's been around since 1929 so you can't go wrong! read more

Love this place! The ambiance resembles so many of the pubs I have been to during trips to Ireland. Very casual and extremely friendly. There is barely room to move around but that is the pub atmosphere. You should be able to talk with those family and friends around you. Nice selection of beers on draft and in bottles. We had the Reuben sandwich which had both corned beef and pastrami. It was delicious and a full meal. The corned beef is not deli meat but chunks of that stringy corned beef we love at home. Nicely grilled bread. I was happy to be able to choose a salad instead of fries and it was just right. Definitely will be back. And now I want the t shirt ! read more

Normally you don't discover delicious food at a pub, however, I was pleasantly surprised by Murphy's in Providence. I never order reuben sandwiches, in fact, I'm not sure if I even had a reuben before. I ordered the "Luna" sandwich with a side of potato salad. The Luna had house corned beef, pastrami, coleslaw, swiss cheese, and American cheese with a side of Russian dressing. My mind has now been changed forever when it comes to reubens, although I think I would only want it from Murphy's. During my visit I also ordered a cup of chowder and Chicken Francaise wings. Everything was tasty and the service makes you feel right at home. I saw many items on the menu that I would also order, so I would definitely visit again. read more

My husband and I decided to try this place because people and reviews raved about the rueben. My husband is a fan so we wanted to try their rueben. My husband said the Reuben was 'fine.' Not spectacular but fine. We did although have the poutine fries and they were fabulous! Unfortunately, I ordered a Ceaser salad and was very disappointed. They served me a bow of shredded lettuce. I expected nice chunks of romaine- not shredded lettuce. Small amount of dressing and croutons. I did not eat more than 2 bites and pushed it aside. I wish I had been happier trying a new place but it is what it is. I am not saying don't go, I'm sure other items are good. I got yo Murphy's for a corn beef sandwich on rye with swiss. You also get a side and I highly recommend the homemade chips. I was in Providence for work this past week and was sightseeing and found this cool pub. I stopped in for a beer and burger and was delighted by both. My burger was huge and good. The beer was awesome and hit the spot. The bartender/waiter was really nice too. Sorry I didn't get his name. I definitely recommend this place when visiting Providence. After finding out the place I wanted to go was closed & driving around for 45 minutes we finally asked the valley at the Graduate (also an amazing hotel) where to go & he recommended Murphy's which was just a short walk from the hotel. We had a stuffed clam (forgot the name) which was yummy & like stuffing! We also had a Ruben & another sandwich. Both were sooo good. My daughter who "wasn't hungry" finished hers off!! Stayed here on a Tuesday night on a business trip. Nice place to relax (and for us, to stay out of the downpour) and down some drinks. Serving decent food late night is a big plus. Wasn't too crowded being a Tuesday night after a holiday; had a few locals, a bunch of twentysomethings, hottie Asian chick to my right, and some other folks who clearly looked like business travelers (a bunch of hotels close by). We had heard of the great food and vibes from this place and so we enthusiastically went to have a good dinner. However, we were seriously disappointed. Yes, this place looks like most anyone can have a good time and enjoy some great beverages, but the food is dull and boring. We started with French Onion Soup and NE Clam Chowder. The French Onion Soup should really be renamed French Bread Soup as the bread was the biggest item below the cheese with a couple of paltry onions. We both tried the acclaimed Shepard's Pie and although it was very nicely presented, it was tasteless and you could tell that the gravy used was just instant gravy where they "added water and stirred" it to give it effect. We hoped for a decent dessert, but that too, was all fluff and no substance as it was mainly whipped cream and very little of anything else on the bottom as the main ingredients were on the bottom for effect. I ordered the Murphy's Reuben via ubereats, it was delicious! HOWEVER, they sadly forgot to include the Russian dressing. I specifically chose the option to put it directly on the sandwich (I guess their standard is to serve it on the side) which they did not do, nor did I receive it as a side. This was extremely disappointing as the dressing is one of the most important components of a Reuben to me, and what makes a Rueben a Reuben. It is one of the main reasons I like them so much. To make matters worse, I have no Russian or thousand island dressing at home, and the grocery stores are now closed, so I'll have to wait til tomorrow to eat my Reuben and it'll have to be reheated and probably a bit soggy. I had a few bites and it was indeed delicious, but I paid $20 for this all said and done, and I'd rather wait to eat it the way I want it. I'd rather deal with some sogginess than no dressing. I just wish that I was able to taste the sandwich fresh as it was meant to be made. So that's why I'm only giving 3 stars right now. However, I WILL be ordering from Murphy's again, as the quality of the food was excellent! Perhaps I should go in person, so I can send it back if there are any mistakes, but I'm really more of a delivery kind of girl. So long as there are no more errors with my food in the future, I could see this place easily being a 4 or even 5 star place. Oh, and the pickles on the side were delicious too! Really great food, but someone needs to read the orders more carefully and make sure that the food they're sending out is correct. I'm definitely willing to give Murphy's another chance and will adjust my rating accordingly, I'm just a bit miffed that I spend $20 only to have to spend another $5 on an ingredient that was supposed to be included, and I can't eat my sandwich until tomorrow. I wouldn't have been upset if they put it in a cup on the side instead of on the sandwich as requested, because that's easy enough to fix myself, but to have it omitted entirely was disappointing to say the least. All in all, an unfortunate first impression when it comes to service, but an excellent first impression with the overall quality of the food. I would still totally recommend Murphy's, as I have a feeling I just got unlucky, and again-the food itself really is great, but perhaps go in person rather than ordering delivery. I order ubereats and doordash ALL the time, I mean seriously like almost daily, and this is the first time in over a year that a restaurant has messed up my order so that is why I am particularly disappointed, as this definitely isn't something that happens frequently. It's really not hard to double check an order to make sure it's correct before sending it out. What if I had made an allergy request and they ignored it? It's not hard to imagine how this mistake happened-there is clearly a lack of communication in the kitchen. Because the standard is to serve the sauce separately (not sure why-I think Murphy's should reconsider this practice as the sauce is an integral part of a reuben) so the person making it didn't bother to read or wasn't correctly told the order, made it as per usual, and then the person expediting/packing it up probably DID read the order and saw that the sauce was to be but directly on the sandwich rather than on the side, but did not bother to check that it actually was. I'm mentioning all this so that the owners of Murphy's hopefully read this and can address it with their staff so that they can do better in the future. These simple mistakes are easily avoided but they really affect the customers enjoyment of the meal. read more

Generally unimpressed - my wife and I were at a Providence Civic center event and gave Murphy's a try based on proximity. The nachos appetizer was skimpy on salsa, the roast beef and pastrami sandwich did not have horseradish as advertised, and was almost absent of mushrooms. We'll try somewhere else on a future trip. read more
