Our waitress never came to check on us unless she was bringing over more food. Didn't bring first drink until the app came out. We had to go to the bar to ask her for another round of drinks and for to go box's/check. She didn't ask how our entrées were until she dropped off the check. And then proceeded to give me troubles about typing in my card because her machine wasn't working. Service overall 1/5. We do recommend sitting at the bar not a table. For a unfussy bar food experience, this is the place to pop in for a burger and a beer. There are tons of tables and two bars. Nothing fancy but for a quasi locals spot, this could be the place when you are out exploring downtown. I had the pleasure of visiting recently after many years and I was pleasantly surprised! Inside the restaurant is simple; they have a bar, tables, and different areas for seating. The service was adequate. We came during shift-change, and I did not mind having two servers. The second one, however, seemed like she was on something. She still provided decent service, but it was a little off-putting. The drinks from the bar were very tasty, and the bartender more than kind! The food was delicious! The menu is varied and has options for all diets. I chose to try the Chicken Marsala. It was one of the biggest plates of pasta I have ever seen, and it was only $15. My friend tried the Blackened Chicken Alfredo. It was an equally big plate and had very rich, creamy Alfredo sauce. Overall this was a great experience. We went to Blake's before a Providence College basketball game. Blake is usually crowded with patrons, but we reserved a table the night before through the bartender Kim. She was very gracious and helpful. We had eight people at the table. We all had drinks and meals. Everything came out really well. The food was excellent. Been here a few times before PPAC events. My daughter had the chicken wrap with fries, I had the French dip roast beef. They have a good size menu so there's something for everyone. Good size portions except for the fries, and reasonable price; $12 each with fries. I enjoyed my sandwich but was a little disappointed with the time from ordering to delivery at the table. Not sure if the waitress was handling too many tables but I don't think it was the cook being behind. The food was warm indicating that it sat a bit at the counter. If you follow my reviews you'd know I want my fries reasonably hot! Great atmosphere and there is a good size bar. We'll go again and just mark this visit as an off day. We wandered into Blake's around midnight on a Friday for some dinner and drinks after checking in at a nearby hotel because not much else seemed to be open. The drinks were really quick, but the food required a little patience...completely understandable considering that they had a decent number of customers to serve and it was around midnight. They have a pretty extensive menu ranging from fajitas to pasta. I ended up getting the chicken parm with penne, and it actually ended up being the most delish meal I would have for days. The portions were really generous, and it probably could've fed 2 people. This place isn't anything fancy, but that's really part of its charm. The strong drinks and comfort food combined with the laid back vibe really evoked a sense of nostalgia for my good ol college days on the East Coast. I really wouldn't mind wandering back in here if I'm ever back in Providence. They're open late, the bartenders are patient, and they have really reasonable prices... you really can't go wrong. read more

We came in as a group of 7 on a Saturday evening with a reservation. It wasn't super packed or anything but there were a decent amount of customers dining in. We ordered some pizzas to share and a few of us ordered individual burgers or sandwiches. Our waitress was frantically printing out checks for other tables most of the time and seemed quite busy. She forgot to put in an order for one of the meals and also forgot some of our requests. It took maybe 30 minutes to finally get our check. Service was pretty slow, the pizza we got was decent. Blake's to go order here. Called in. Easy to find parking on a Saturday afternoon. I entered in and was told to pick up at the bar. I waited a cool 5 minutes before the bartender addressed me. I have to say she looked like she hadn't brushed her hair and had a tough morning- could have been groomed better for making drinks and touching people's food. It was not that busy but she had her hands full. My order was ready immediately. A server did assist me with some to go waters (thank you! She was very nice.) My daughter enjoyed her cheese quesadilla- good size. I had a Cesar salad. Have to say grated Parmesan cheese is not a win on a salad for me. Service was awful, sat down with an hour and a half until we had to be somewhere we ordered two entrees and two apps and we're not informed that we may not be able to get our full order before we needed to leave. After an hour of waiting we were given only our appetizers. The waiter then told us we wouldn't have enough time to get our entrees. She was then extremely rude to us when we told her we would've only ordered entrees if we had known it was going to be a long wait. I am a restaurant owner in Massachusetts, just outside the Boston area. My daughter went to Providence college, as she just graduated. Whenever I come down to visit her, we always try to go to a variety of restaurants in the Providence area. However, there is only 1 restaurant we have gone to every time I come down to see her. That is Blake's Tavern. The food is always great, and the service has always been pretty good. I am a little bit of a tougher analyst when it comes to service due to my restaurant background. That was until I came in with my daughter a few weeks ago. We always sit at the bar. The bartenders in the past were not bad by any means. I could clearly tell there was an upgrade when came back in and I had a very nice, attentive young lady take care of us. I believe her name was Katie. If I have it wrong, I sincerely apologize. She was a younger girl, maybe late 20's with a great personality and knowledge of her craft. As a restaurant owner I know when I experience incredible service. This experience was incredible and that is an understatement. She was friendly, fast, knowledgeable, and answered any and all questions we had. She went above and beyond and made our time very enjoyable. Everything she recommended on the menu was superb. The drinks were fabulous. I felt like I was at my local spots at home where they know me and treat me well because I am a regular. This girl didn't know me from a hole in the wall and treated us like gold in the most professional manner. Anyone who owns or has been in this business knows when you are being waited on by someone who actually cares about the business they work for and what they are doing. She optimizes that and then some. I was most impressed by her ability to talk to us/ be attentive to us while also multitasking and taking care of the rest of the bar as well. I have owned bars for over 25 years, and it has to be a top 5 display of how a bartender should work/operate a bar. To say I was impressed would be a colossal understatement. I left a 60% tip on the bill and still felt I was shorting her. You do not always see great service these days. I wish there were workers in this industry that hard work ethic, service skills, attention to detail, and kindness/accommodation skills like her. I really hope this place realizes how lucky they are to have an employee that cares and works that hard. You are starting to see this less and less of that as I can attest to. Matter of fact, I have a week where we close at my restaurant coming up. I am actually bringing my top bartenders/servers on a field trip, if you will, to Providence to see the area of course, but mainly to go Blake's so they can see how real quality service should be given. I try to explain it to my employees. Maybe if I show them in person, it will sink in to them. You do not find that ability growing on trees. So, we left and found Blake's and I'm happy to say we did. We were greeted by Zack who set a friendly and welcoming tone and made sure we were well taken care of. Great Beef Stew. Nachos on kid's menu were dry and should be deep fried and come with salsa vs charging for a small ramcun of salsa. Kid's menu should come with drink too. Pizza sauce tasted like there were red hots in the sauce. Crust was good. I think if I owned this place I would have my workers wear green Irish sporty shirts with company name on them and black pants vs sweat pants and whatever for it throws off the the establishment in a negative way. The wait staff was fabulous and should be paid well and treated to gift cards and such by the owner for their hard work. The tables/bar area need a make over. There were people coming in to drink at the bar that smelled of marajuana which is a huge turnoff. The atmostphere was dull inside and could be lively with Irish decorations to make the establishment look more inviting. I would hire a decorator or go out and look at other Irish pubs/restaurants to get ideas. There were also people coming in to use the single restroom from the street which means guest at the restaurant, like me, had to wait. I would also call the city to see if they can address the homeless people with their baggage in the middle of that street for no one wants to walk from the the Peforming Arts Theatre and come across vagrants blocking the path and having to cross the stree to avoid them. Your establishment could do more business if you just make a few changes noted above for the food is not bad. read more

Extremely bland and flavorless, and the burger was cooked well done despite it being ordered medium. Shucks. We have been patronizing this restaurant for years before our PPAC shows and have enjoyed the food and ambiance. They offered simple specials that were always good and it was a great place to meet and chat with friends before the show. Unfortunately since their big makeover they have lost so much. The private, cozy, quiet rooms are gone. In their place is a large bar with the worst acoustics ever. We cannot even be heard at a 6 person table. The food has suffered as well. They do not provide specials and, although we arrive over an hour before our show, we have to wait so long for our food that we are rushed to eat it. It is sad that a longtime tradition for us will be no longer. We are going to find another place where they serve good food in a quieter atmosphere. We will miss Kim the most. read more

The drinks were fine. They're regular bar drinks. As far as the food goes, BLAND AS FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCC!!! Our apps came out cold. We ordered the Gold Pot and everything was cold/warm. Our entrees were even more terrible. Nothing was seasoned. Seemed like they cooked the meat and just threw sauce on top.
