This experience could have been so much better. The food was good, however I can't speak for the drinks, since I never received my drink order even after my wife asking twice and myself asking once. We were rather disappointed at this time and passed on dessert. Our server, Madison, was very rude and she seemed as though she would rather not be there. When we asked for our check she literally dropped it on the table and said, " there it is". her attitude spoiled the whole evening. Not even a thank you . He noticed downstairs (it was Sat night) it was a comedy show night - so we ended up going downstairs... The vibe down there is cute, couches, dim lit, comics, small stage, Ordered a ton of food. Got some drinks. It was a good night, the comics were funny, the place is small enough for lots of crowd participation. 2.5/5 stars Beautiful venue I'm sure in the light of day. We came here in evening for Valentine's Day and left a bit disappointed, especially given the $200+ bill. Drinks were the best part, and the crab cakes were fine, but my steak was cold and poorly presented, and the lamb chops felt overpriced for the portion. We were seated downstairs despite reserving upstairs, and valet parking wasn't mentioned, so we paid to park separately. Overall, I don't want to judge the entire restaurant by a single busy holiday service, but for the price, the experience left us underwhelmed. With better communication, attention to detail, and consistency in the kitchen, this place could be worth the splurge -- but unfortunately, Valentine's Day just wasn't it for us. It is not The George I remember. Haven't been in a while and decided for a Valentine's Day dinner with my girlfriend. Well, the meal was not worth the money. Lobster was overcooked in seafood fra diavolo. The stuffed mushroom appetizer served on a bed of wilted lettuce? Are we in 2002 to put 5 stuffed mushrooms on wilted lettuce leaves? Our bartender was the very best (Tayla, I think?) so let's start there. Her energy was so genuine & positive. I bet that there are a lot of folks that are HER regulars, specifically. The pianist was also really fun & jolly. He hammered out familiar tunes like Piano Man - a little on the nose, but oh well. Unfortunately, the rest of our experience was sub par. The employee who greeted us at the door hated me from the moment she looked at me. No hyperbole. She hated me & didn't even try to hide it. Eye rolls, mockery, & sarcastic smiles. I generally don't include mention of grumpy employees in my first-time visit reviews (someone might just be having a shit day - been there) but this was so egregious that I have to note it. We got the burrata special ($22) that included maybe 3-4 slices of tomato, 3-4 pieces of prosciutto, and a few toast points. Aside from the tomato being ice cold (you can't serve tomatoes ice cold!) it was okay. Worth $22? Definitely not. And oooohhh baby, the drinks were bad. Like, really bad. Like, scrunch up your face after a sip bad. It seemed like the bartenders were following drink recipes line by line, so there was probably no fault in the execution, but instead major fault in the recipes themselves. The bar seemed outdated. Thick wine glasses, super basic (& bad) cocktails, & TVs. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I just don't think TVs have any place in a gorgeous wood-paneled, stain glass windowed, swanky piano lounge. I think The George really needs to reevaluate their bar management situation. I would probably not return, unfortunately, unless someone specifically asked me to meet them there. read more

This place is absolutely incredible! We showed up randomly on a Saturday night and they were able to accommodate us easily on the bar side. From the outside the place looks a little divey, but inside it is beautifully decorated and furnished. Very colonial means modern, dark heavy wood, linen table cloths and cozy/comfy seating. The food and drink meanu is extensive and impressive! I got a major kick out of signature cocktails all being revolutionary wat themed. I ordered "The Pear-fect President" and it truly was a perfect cocktail. For dinner I ordered the surf and turf special. The filet was cooked and seasoned to perfection, the shrimps were large and you could tell the mashed potatoes were freshly made in house. This is place could go back and back to! read more

Check out their Monday night specials, entrées & a bottle of wine for $55. What a great deal in this day and age of dining prices increasing. We met friends there and all of us enjoyed our dinners. I have the slow cooked beef shank on the special menu, moist and tasty like grandma's Sunday dinners. It came with soup, salad and wine, tho not high end, but very drinkable. The George, on the other hand, provides great ambiance and service, but the food was nothing particularly special or memorable. Our favorite dish was the pork chop, which was paired with classic sweet apple and maple flavors, and a hearty mound of home style mashed potatoes. The French onion soup was sweet and comforting, but the focaccia used made me miss a traditional bread crouton that is better suited to soak up broth. Similarly, the salty toppings and flavor combination of the prosciutto and arugula pizza and garlicky Asiago crust was really good. Like the soup, the "bread" was disappointing as the dough showed no signs of being grilled, and it was tough and chewy like a store bought Boboli. * Note, they charge a 4% fee for payment by credit card, which seems excessive and unethical. read more

Amazing as always! The George is a consistently great dining experience. The ambiance is perfect for a romantic date night and we were seated near the bar where the owner and various other musicians played the piano. So many talented individuals! The dirty martinis with blue cheese olives and sangria were perfectly made. The calamari with the Thai chili sauce was phenomenal, it was crispy and tasty. My husband said it was the best calamari he has had. We both thoroughly enjoyed our entrees, I had the chicken francese and he had the short ribs. If you are going to a show at PPAC, this is the perfect location for a pre-show meal...then you can stop back for a drink and live entertainment after as well. I went here for dinner for my birthday I did not enjoy the meal but I was pleasantly pleased with the waiter which made up for the disappointment with the meal. I ordered the veal dish and the veal was very bland no flavor. My replacement dish was the beef short ribs which were okay. The beef short rib was cold but thankfully the mash potatoes were hot. My husband ordered the risotto and scallops dish. He enjoyed the scallops but the risotto wasn't fully cooked and some of it was crunchy. We also ordered the crab cakes and although the crab cakes had good flavor and seasoned well. The crab cakes had a lot of filler of breadcrumbs very little crab. What's nice about the George is its versatility. They have a main dining room if you're in the mood for a more formal sit-down experience, a separate bar area that's a bit livelier and often has live music, and a basement "speakeasy" type of space that's more suitable for late nights and nightcaps. Whatever your mood, there's a space for you. I tend to gravitate towards the bar. The bartenders are friendly, knowledgeable, and they make a strong drink. While I don't usually opt for a full meal, I do really enjoy their small shareable plates. Their Thai chili calamari is a personal favorite of mine. Topped with roasted peanuts and crispy arugula, there's a lot of great flavors and textures and I like that they include tentacles as well as rings. The stuffed mushrooms are another standout. Perfect for noshing. Occasionally, I'll even throw in a margherita pizza, which is always solid. The space itself is a huge selling point for this spot. The bar area is gorgeous with beautiful moldings. For me, The George is the perfect downtown spot for when you just want a drink or two and some light bites. read more

While it wasn't perfect, I am still giving the George five stars because the ambience was lovely, the service was great and the food was very delicious. My husband started with, "The George ", which is The George's version of the Old Fashioned. He said it was excellent. We started with a calamari appetizer and Caesar salad. I thought the calamari was just OK. I've had better and I've had worse. The Caesar salad was very delicious. Nice and fresh and I could taste the anchovies but it was not too anchovy-y. I had the ravioli, stuffed with lobster and crab meat. While the dough was a bit thick, the sauce was lovely and the filling was delicious. If I were nitpicking, I would say the dough needed to be rolled or put through the pasta machine one more time. My husband had the steak Milanese, and he said it was very good. I felt he wished he had ordered a different steak but he did say it was cooked perfectly. Another dessert. We each had our own dessert. I had the strawberry Tres leches cake. My husband had the banana cream pie and my daughter had the chocolate cake. I overheard our waiter, describing the desserts to another table, and I knew immediately I wanted the strawberry Tres leches cake. Tres Leches is one of my favorite desserts. With that said, I was disappointed because the milk mixture had not soaked into the cake. So to describe it as a Tres Leches cake was not accurate. It was really more like a strawberry shortcake. It was a generous portion, and it was still delicious. I just didn't think it should be positioned as a Tres Leches cake. My husband had the banana cream pie, said it was the best banana cream pie he's ever had. Our waiter said that some people come just to have the banana cream pie. We know why. Speaking of our waiter, he was awesome. I did not catch his name, but he was very friendly and warm and attentive. In addition, the owner stopped in to introduce himself, and to ask how everything was. Although it wasn't a perfect meal, I would still come back and recommend the George for a fine dining experience. I'd like to come back for their regular menu, not the Thanksgiving menu. Came here today for a late brunch for a friends birthday. It was so nice with high class decor. Who doesn't love a plus seat to eat in, so much better than a metal chair. The waitress was beyond nice. Very friendly and had great opinions on the menu that she shared. She was so kind the birthday girl wanted to have her sit down and join us. The menu had a good amount of options and fair prices. My French toast with fruit was really tasty and I felt the price was appropriate. A really great place to catch a late afternoon brunch and talk. Owner came around checking on us. It was clear they were closing to turn over to dinner service but absolutely no one rushed us. Our server was very nice. I had the Philadelphia steak and cheese sandwich with fries. The Philadelphia steak and cheese sandwich had steak with sautéed mushrooms and caramelized onions. It was really good and very filling. I also had a speciality cocktail called the Eleanor. This has sparkling wine, hibiscus and orange blossom apertivo, and grapefruit juice. It was very refreshing. We toss around a bunch of places and searched for something new and exciting ---and landed on the George as we love their lamb chops when they have them on special. What can I say?..Another great meal with great service from start to finish. Although busy valet was running like he was at the Olympic trials. Open table res and seated right away. I appreciate they gave us the choice of two different tables. Speaks volumes as we all have different preferences. The waitress had great energy and could answer any question with precise detail. Food was great as always. I had a an issue with a gift card because I somehow got tape on it, and they bent over backwards to figure out. They researched it and did figure it out with grace --- which most places would say sorry doesn't work not our problem. Everything at The George is phenomenal. We have never had just an average meal here, everything is curated and cooked to perfection. The service is very good, and the atmosphere is unique. The decor and personality of the place is so funky and fun! Absolutely recommend visiting if you are in the area. On our last visit, the server also mentioned that they have live music (piano) on Thursdays & Fridays, as well as a comedy show on Saturdays in the downstairs 'speakeasy'. Our Waitress was 5 stars really friendly but I think they may have been short staffed. The main room I was in was wicked cramped. We had a table in the middle, so when anyone walked by we got our seats bumped all the time we ate. Drinks were 5 stars I loved their cocktails and the cappuccino was delicious. The disappointed started with the "lump" crab cakes . No Lump just a compressed crab meat patty, that tasted like it came out of a can. I think it would have tasted better if it came out hot and not lukewarm to cold . I ordered the lamb rack medium rare and my wife ordered the steak tri-tips medium. Both entrees again came out lukewarm to cold, the only thing really hot the plate was my mashed potatoes . Lamb was slightly overcooked but not bad, but the Demi- glaze was super sweet killing the lamb flavor. If you like sweet you may enjoy it but if you're a savory person, you won't be able to eat. The broccoli rabbi was so squishy and stringy I couldn't cut or eat it in public. The steak tri tips were also lukewarm but cooked correctly. The entrees weren't bad but just MEH. I could have cooked the same better and for 1/2 the price. My wife loved the banana cream pie. I would come back just to go to the speakeasy part and have cocktails or dessert. The whole experience was just very underwhelming. The owner did come by to check on us, but left quickly and pursue our answer that everything was just "ok" . How is it possible I have not written a review for The George? Thankfully, this restaurant has been here for quite some time. My first visit was a girls night out. The food was amazing, staff excellent, ambiance relaxing and upscale. Since then I have returned with my SO for date nights. Sometimes it dinner. Some times it's drinks. Everytime it's a good experience. I particularly want to shout out to Eddie who is always a delight. He's made some delicious recommendations and is so personable. I don't know how you can't love him. The staff, no matter their title, are all friendly and good at their profession. The tables are inviting, seating comfortable whether in a booth or table for two. A piano player in the bar entertains on weekend evenings and they have block parties. This spot is a nice combination of casual elegance and fun. Plus, there is a speakeasy on the lower level that might be open if you get lucky. read more
