Murphys is truly an self contained ecosystem. I came in to work from the bar, and was promptly and warmly greeted by the bartender. Something so simple, often overlooked, but highly valued! The food tasted delicious and was well executed. Certainly has me curious to try the rest of the menu! My friends and I spent hours here, eventually migrating to the beautiful patio. I went to Murphy's with a larger group of 7 people- the space is surprisingly large, but remains very cozy with not too loud of a noise level. Our server (who I wish I could remember their name!) was very attentive and kind. The food came out in a normal length of time, impressive considering it was a Saturday at peak time for brunchers to be out an about. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals! I split a chicken burger and the murphy's burger with a friend- both were great! I was hesitant about the chicken burger, but it was well seasoned and not a dry patty! I had the cheesy grits as a side- perfection. Probably my favorite thing! The portions were also large- I didn't finish my plate! The best looking thing that was ordered at the table was the turkey club, but with focaccia bread. . . . I had a bite and it was 10/10! Overall, brunch was pretty good. However, I do feel like so many brunch places are just good and not AMAZING. A cute place for brunch in Virginia highlands! A group of 4 of us came in this past Saturday for brunch at 9:30. We made a reservation! It wasn't too crowded when we got there, but there was a wait when we left around 11! Our waitress was very nice and attentive. We started with coffees. Three black coffees and one latte. The espresso drinks come with a biscotti! They also bring out an amazing bread basket with butter and jams! Our basket came with biscuits and Oreo muffins! So delicious. We came here for a family lunch - it's located in the really cute area of Virginia Highlands. We were lucky to find street parking close by. They were super packed when we arrived at 1:30pm, so it's a good thing we had a reservation. While waiting, you can grab a house cookie ($1 each) or browse the adjacent wine shop with some well curated wines (including some small Napa Valley producers). Food: They start you with warm biscuits and muffins with butter and cherry jam. Drinks: They had lots of brunch cocktails available. The breakfast martini and executive mimosa were both refreshing but decently strong for brunch. Food: - Crab cake Benedict: the jalapeño hollandaise was the highlight - it had a great kick. You can pick home fries or grits (legit with a pat of extra butter on your spoon). Eggs were poached perfectly - Shrimp and grits: with andouille and a sunny side up egg. Atlanta brunch is so hit or miss. This place has potential but it fell flat. Our server was nice but not great. She forgot items that we asked for multiple times. To be fair to her it was a busy Sunday. The manager did remedy it when we had to ask for the 5th time for the same item (creamer for our coffee, by the way). The food itself is underwhelming to say the less. Even worse, overpriced and below average. - The smoked salmon flatbread was SO fishy. I couldn't believe it. I could only stomach one bite and no one else could eat it. - The crab cake Benedict is b l a n d. Bland as can be. The potatoes that come with it had more flavor but they were soggy. After a VERY disappointing round of Escape the Room (review coming...spoiler alert...not good), the smoking hot wife decided we needed to eat at Murphy's. Best decision of the day!!! The location is immaculate, gentile, very clean, and looks like something that should be in New Orleans...only clean...and not in ATL. The staff. Superb. Fresh plates and plenty of service the entire time we were there. My only gripe is the silverware had some kind of sticky funk on 3 of our knives. They were quickly replaced, but still... The wife and I ordered the soup of the day (Chicken soup!!!!! Seriously...it was really good) and...being a good Texas boy I hate to admit this...the braised Brisket...which was amazing. The horseradish mashers and veggies that came with it were to die for. The Brisket was tender, plump, juicy, and utterly delicious. Now. One in our party ordered the Burger. Which was described as...and not kidding..."This is an **Effing** good burger." Not sure if praise gets higher than that. But I will let that review stand on its own. The sunnnnn! Saturday felt like my family's emergence from a cave. Based on Covid-19, we had refrained from eating out as much and hadn't eaten inside a restaurant in months. So we took a chance on Murphys and were impressed by the experience. In terms of eating near or close to downtown Atlanta, it is my practice to make reservations. My go to is Open Table, it is an easy application and provides as much notification for your appointment as you wish. Murphys is very in tune with Open Table and even called to confirm our reservation the day of. As expected, Murphys was very busy during Brunch and at our 1pm arrival. Despite being busy, our reservation was honored and we were checked in and ushered to our table without incident. *Note: if you come with a stroller, you may need to store it up front depending on where you are seated. In the restaurant, there was very good spacing between tables inside. The outside patio was a bit closer...so keep that in mind when planning a visit. In terms of service, it was top notch. Our waiter, Ricky, was there when needed and super knowledgeable about the menu as to provide good recommendations. Although you really can't go wrong with anything at Murphys. Very good menu overall...especially Brunch. The Air: Murphys runs a sanitized dining experience from the tables to the air conditioning. We felt well protected. Parking: Highly recommended to utilize the complimentary Valet (tips are encouraged). You may find somewhere to park in the Highlands, but you risk the threat of being towed. Reservations: Make one. Visited Murphy's with a couple of girlfriends for brunch. The restaurant is super cute, the staff wear masks, they're taking temperatures at the door and hand sani and masks are provided as well ( A+ Murphy's). We ordered a couple of appetizers, Artichokes and a charcuterie board, which both were very good! I also ordered a blueberry mimosa, which was also tasty! The blueberries are fresh squeezed in house! For my meal, I intended to order the pancakes but changed my mind at the last minute and ordered the shrimp and grits. I don't eat pork so I got it without the andouille sausage. It was just ok. The sauce was nice, the shrimp wasn't overcooked, but nothing to exciting about that dish. My friends ordered quiche's and mentioned they were tasty. Our waiter was very nice (although I didn't get his name). The ambiance of the restaurant, I absolutely loved and their staff was all wearing their masks properly! Open for indoor dining (July 2020, but you'll want to call and confirm), my friend and I made this our Sunday brunch meetup. 9:00 AM and there was no queue and we were immediately seated. Masks by all staff and customers as they moved to and from tables. I'm not sure if the menus were one-time use, but there were no reusable condiments on the table. When requested, hot sauce came in a small dish. Very fancy, very COVID safe. A nice brunch menu, my friend chose the shrimp and cheddar grits. They looked great and she said they were delicious. I chose the "Eggs Virginia Highland" and it was also delicious. Spinach and mushrooms and nice poached eggs on a house-made foccacia served with a tomato hollandaise sauce and home fries. I had an amazing experience at Murphy's! The staff were incredibly kind, customer service oriented and attentive. Everyone had on masks (even in the outside seating area). This Virginia Highland staple is always a great choice for brunch. You can never go wrong coming here. Make sure you make reservations but even a small wait is worth it. They have a great selection of drinks and the food is always good. I had the eggs slum mulligan which normally comes with a poached egg, but I requested my eggs to be scrambled. My beverage selection was a Paloma, although I was jealous when I saw I didn't get a slice of grapefruit. Hello Fellow Yelpers! I am so sad about this review because the food was good and the waiter was exceptional. On Sunday, July 17, 2022, I visited Murphys. I arrived at 10:56am, I approached the hostess and she shared that it was a 2 hour wait for a party of 2 or that I had the option of sitting at the bar when a spot became available. I am assuming that the manager and hostess were not well equipped with managing the seating chart or maybe they did not take a liking to folks of my kind because there were endless seats available. My hope is that they were incompetent and not racist. After waiting for 46 minutes a waiter sat us down. He must have been God sent because we had a plane to catch. About 3 minutes after being seated the "manager" approached us to share that we needed to get up and that we should have never been seated. She wanted us to go back to that bar area, stand, and wait. She said you need to wait because we did not have a reservation. Reminder there are many seats available- please refer to the photos. In that moment the waiter suggested to split a table of 4 where 2 people were eating so that we could sit. He clearly had more common sense. After he accommodated us, she walked away and was clearly angry as evidenced by her red face and hand gestures. She got in his face and yelled at him this made me feel so sad. I pray he does not get reprimanded further for exercising his best judgment and for basically being smarter and kinder than her. I was baffled that after we were seated the woman in the photo featured in the review would request that we get up and wait again. I was baffled because I believe businesses are expected to accommodate the customer, make the customer feel welcomed. In that moment I wanted to leave but I was headed to the airport and was already experiencing a time crunch. Long story short I was confused because there were so many open seats available but she was angry that we were seated. I am genuinely hurt by her demeanor, her lack of empathy, her lack of customer care and her disrespect for the young waiter. I do not recommend Murphys to anyone nor would I ever visit this establishment again. I pray that the owner conducts a common sense and customer service training to remind staff of the importance of creating a welcoming environment for all people. Folks that know me would categorize me as easy going and while I remained silent during this experience, I was deeply impacted by the treatment. I also included the hostess who was unable to figure out the seated chart with the endless open seats. She seemed peeved that we were seated after she stated there were not seats available. I went here for the first to grab lunch with a friend, and it did NOT disappoint. The quality and atmosphere were great. Cozy and intimate. We had the ricotta grilled sourdough and shishito peppers for apps and entrees, chicken burger, and atlantic salmon. All was amazing! We ended up with key lime pie for dessert, which was good because you can taste the coconut flakes. To top everything off, they have a full-time barista on site, and we opted in for some coffee. Overall good experience, went on. Tuesday night and parked on the street to avoid valet. Came with a friend and besides getting sat near a couple fussy toddlers it was a good ambiance. I ordered the steak frites which neither the steak nor fries were hot but I was hungry and didn't want to wait for another meal. A steak knife wasn't brought until I asked so that slowed down my eating even further. But the steak was cooked correctly. My friend enjoyed her meal.
