Traveling in London for the first time and I met a friend from my hometown who also happened to be in London (our trips overlapped by a day). So we had to have our favorite day date cuisine, Indian. After googling for places to choose, I landed Mughal's which ended up being the perfect place! Suggest making a reservation (we did not); but we were accommodated for a table upon arrival. We opted for the butter chicken, paneer masala, and beef samosas. Just typing the names makes my mouth water, the flavors had me wanting to drink the sauce out of the bowl...I opted for just using the naan to finish it off. Get the beef samosa as a starter, just trust me you will not be disappointed. I know London is known for the Indian cuisine, but definitely make Mughal's a top option to go. The staff were amazing, friendly, and joked around with us. It was a great dinner and fantastic way to cap the night off. read more

Excellent food on two separate occasions during a short stay in London. We had the butter chicken and lamb vindaloo one night, and chicken tikka masala another night -- outstanding! Naan is excellent as is the Raita. Fast service, pleasant atmosphere. I have been eating at Mughals for over 10 years, and I would highly recommend this place if you are staying in the Paddington area. read more

The service here was good but extremely slow on getting your food. The appetizers came out almost immediately, but the main dishes, very slow. It is very small place with tight table seating arrangements. The Thali dish was good and I do like their chicken tikki masala it came with. It's the best deal on the menu from price to quality to portion ratio. read more

Decided to try it on Christmas Eve. We went with our usuals (see pic) and we were not disappointed!! Everything tasted great, and the service was top-notch. Even more impressive was the next night, Christmas Day itself. We were anticipating only a few places open, and waits. But we went around the block and saw numerous lines that didn't seem to be moving. Finally, we stopped in a local chippy, got to the counter and stood there for five minutes waiting to order. Eye contact was made, but absolutely no other acknowledgment. We left, unhappy. We decided to stop by Mughals just to see what it would be like, even with a line. We were acknowledged within 2 minutes, seated in under 10, had wine at our table in 2 minutes more and were eating in another 10. Great job accommodating customers in a busy time! read more

My problem and lack of a 5 start review is that you 100% disregarded my request on my take away order to make my meal "extra spicy". London has amazing Indian food....This isn't it. OK, let me start with the good...You'll get seated promptly without a reservation. The service is friendly, and prompt. Unfortunately, the list of negatives is much longer. The condition of the restaurant is awful. [I always assume when the front of the house is in poor shape, the kitchen is worse.] The food was like a bad American version of Indian (sweet?). And they find ways to rack up the bill with unusual charges (charging for rice??! and a half a can of Coke for the price of a whole one?). I stopped by here on a Saturday night. I wasn't sure what to expect as far as crowds. It was busy, but there were still tables at about 18:30. It filled up shortly after that. I ordered a water, vindaloo chicken, naan and rice. They informed the vindaloo was spicy, which was fine... that's what I was hoping for. Vindaloo in the States is like tomato soup and not spicy. I figured it would be better in London, and it was. My water came out quick, but the food took almost 40 mins to come out. Maybe that's normal for here, but it felt like a long time. I must say the portions are very generous (please keep it up) all the dishes are very tasty and the food is delivered piping hot ready to eat. I love the shrimp biryani. I had it dining in once. However, I ordered the shrimp biryani to go recently, and it wasn't the same. Something was definitely different. My wife said 3 stars because the veggies in her curry were canned, the beer was slightly cool as was the water. Also, the seating was cramped and somewhat claustraphobic. I recommend reservations since they were packed at 7pm on a Sunday but luckily we had reserved. We ordered chicken tika masala, naan, and vegetable curry. Who knew Cobra beer was so good! I felt the chicken tika masala was good but not great - it had a bit of an overwhelming tomato flavor but was quite good and a bit spicy. The naan was real good and the rice was decent. The irony is that although it was reasonable Indian, I didn't think it was great, especially when you consider the competition in London. Wow, this place was fantastic! We started with a couple of papadams with the bowl of various relishes. Best papadams we've had in a long time. We then had the butter chicken and chicken chili masala. All of the curries are made with decent white meat so you don't have to worry about getting ropey chicken. The sauces were fantastic, and they actually went really well together. We also had the pilau rice and a couple of naans. The naans were hot, fresh, and very fluffy. The whole meal was delish and I would thoroughly recommend this place. I haven't been back since Covid hit but I was craving their Chicken Tikka Karahi. It was as good as I remember it. A perfect combination of spicy and sweet with the tang of the tikka chicken. Have it with the mushroom rice and a garlic nann that doesn't take prisoners. Just excellent. While the food was decent their ambiance is gross. I was seated in the back of the restaurant next to the area where they store dirty dishes. Tables are very close to one another so you basically hear everything the guests next to you said. Service took like forever. I had to wait almost one hour to get my food. I finished the food so fast because I wanted to get out ASAP. Could not stand the space and the ambience. Oh they automatically added 10% tip to the bill which they don't deserve it. read more

And the location's great if you are just stopping briefly in London and decide to take Heathrow Express to Paddington instead of staying at the purgatory of the airport hotel. Again: great food. Is it just me, or is the food here waaay "sweeter" (and NOT in a good way) than that of other Indian restaurants? My family became rather tired of eating meal after meal of fish and chips on our trip to the UK and we'd heard that the British folk here are quite fond of Indian food, so we thought hey, the Indian food here must be quite enticing. Conveniently located near London Paddington station and our hotel, Mughal's was the first Indian restaurant we spotted and decided to try. However, upon entering and sitting down at our table, things started to go downhill. First, after opting for tap water as our selected choice of beverage (water was divided into bottled aka expensive and tap aka no charge), our waiter proceeded to stand in a huddled circle with ALL the other staff, all of them casually chatting away like they weren't supposed to be working at all and completely forgetting to give us tap water, which should take only 5 seconds. Then, whenever they deigned to acknowledge that there were customers in the restaurant, they repeatedly told my sister and me to scoot our chairs in (even when we were pressed right against our table) to get out of their way! It is important to note that on the menu, they state that 1) every single person must order a MAIN dish..however, my family managed to convince our waiter that 4 main dishes would be too much, so we got away with only ordering three. 2) a 10% gratuity will be automatically added into our bill. Now, 10% doesn't sound like much in the US, but tipping in the UK is apparently unconventional. My friend, who grew up and attended college in the UK, repeatedly told me beforehand NOT to tip unless we really felt that we had received good service. The automatic tip in this restaurant is probably the cause of the waiters' negligent customer service. As for the food, we ordered the: Butter Chicken - The sauce was thick, but too sweet. there were probably only 5-6 small pieces of chicken. Honestly, if the sauce weren't so sweet, the flavor would have been pretty decent. Chicken Tikka Masala - Again, good spice flavor but too sweet! Half way through dinner, I started to wonder if they had accidentally added sugar instead of salt in their sauces. Saag Bhaji (spinach cooked with garlic, onions, and ghee) - This was our family's preferred dish. It is originally a side vegetable dish, but we were required to upgrade it to a main dish for an additional £3. The spinach is finely "minced" and tastes as though it has been creamed with tasty spices. Garlic Naan (x3) - Because none of the dishes come with any rice, naan, or sides, we were basically required to buy some kind of carb to eat with our dishes. My parents though the naan was too oily for their taste, but I thought it wasn't too bad and had a good chewy texture. In the end, our bill came down to a little more than £30, which was not worth the food and service! It's strange because every time we passed by Mughal's, it always appeared to be teeming with business, but our family can't quite figure out why... TL;DR: Negligent waiter service, overly sweet dishes, dishes don't come with rice/naan/sides, and very expensive prices for what you get! read more

It was a rainy night in London and we were hungry, craving for some Indian food. We decided to have dinner here. We enter the restaurant, lights are dimmed, some candle lights on the tables. It looks like a small, cosy place where one could find families, friends, colleagues having a good time and good food. Indeed I was impressed with the food. Not that I'm an Indian cuisine expert, in fact this is only my second time dining at an Indian restaurant and the first one I had was several years ago. I can't say much about the Saag Paneer since I have nothing to compare it with, but trusting my good sense of taste I'd say this was lovely. I really enjoyed it, me and my family had a good time. Don't be fooled by the number of people they have. The location is really all they have going for them. Service is a bit slow, but mainly the food is just bad. They use sugar in almost everything. The chicken tikka masala might as well have been the dessert. It was so sweet, we hardly touched it. The naan was a little sweet, and the pappadoms were oily and bland. The veggie samosa tasted like spring rolls. The only half decent item was the King Shrimp saag (with spinach). Otherwise, a disaster. Not cheap by any means and when the server asked how we liked our dinner, despite our telling him about the chicken tikka masala, he did absolutely nothing about it. I shared the pre-arranged meal for 2 with my date. It was perfect for us looking for popular items to try, something mild in spices, and enough for 2. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and complimenting the other dishes. The service was attentive throughout our meal and my date and I chatted with our server for a bit sharing stories, as we were one of the last tables for the night. I did a search for indian restaurants in this area and got a few choices. I chose this one as it had more positive reviews that the others. The decor is somewhat older and a bit out dated. However, it was adequate. The seats and tables are quite close together so bear this in mind if you want an intimate meal. That said, I found the service excellent. Very attentive and friendly. My girlfriend and I stopped here after a long day of walking around London, and were overall very pleased with the experience. The service was quite poor, with staff being unable to describe the menu items, and I had to keep grabbing them every time we wanted something. However, we ordered the banquet for two (one starter each, a chicken ticka masala, a lamb and vegetable curry and a vegetarian curry, rice, and naan) which came quickly and was rich and tasty. The curry was sweeter than what I expected but very nice. We left very full and very satisfied, at only £16 each - a great deal! While the food was excellent, the service and ambiance was quite rushed. They even tried to hurry me out the door when I paid the bill, even though it took then 15min to bring it to me! I was meeting a friend after she got off her train and I found Mughal's on google with decent reviews. It's a smallish place with really decent food - we were pleasantly surprised and will definitely be returning again. We had the korma and tikka masala and both really enjoyed our meals. The breads and chutneys were also delicious. Only downside we felt was being seated by the door as every time it opened there was a huge draft - it wasn't too much of an issue for the table we sat at, but I could see it was really bothering the table opposite.
