I have never been to a place where they treat you so well! From upfront and honest assessment and pricing. To the extra lengths they go through. To make sure you are taken care of. Fair prices for the work I needed done. It was a lot of work. They got the service done in a reasonable amount of time. For the immensely large job that needed to be completed. They did exhaust work for me and when their work failed I went to see if they could take a look an hour before close and the guy says it's first come first serve and they save their big jobs for the afternoon. So after 2pm you basically can't have work done because they are too busy. So I asked when a good time would be and he says well we open at 8 close at 5:30 so you'll just have to come when you can. So basically they won't honor the work they did let alone look at it unless it's convenient for them. I don't recommend going to this location. I did go to the Grandville location immediately after leaving this location and pulled in the guy say let me take a look. He pulls my truck in tells me 20 bucks to repair it and I was back on the road in ten minutes. read more

Brought my 2011 avenger in for brake issues. They let me know i only needed a pad and rotor on one side. and a few other minor issues. They Were fair and honest about not needing a ton of work. Needed a brake line repaired too and they took care of everything for $450 and got it done within a few hours. Did not try to add extra work. Gave me an estimate for future repairs that were not urgent. I have been taking all of my vehicles there for over 5 years, always quick and easy to work with. read more

My car had a muffler leak up front and was a little worried about the reviews this location had but it is fairly close to my work and I've had good experience with other services at other Muffler Man locations so I gave them a shot. They were able to get the car into a bay in about 1/2 hour and checked out my situation with a bad muffler clamp. Replaced this with a sleeve and I was on my way a half hour later! Thanks Brian! I had my flex pipe go out on my Honda odyssey. They were nice to get me in and weld in a new one, this was about 1.5 years ago. However, only 3 months in and the flex pipe went out again. I'm just now getting around to just doing it by hand. I just found out they cut the flange off my convertor on both ends and weld the exhaust flex pipe onto the vehicle. Thanks for creating more work for me and try to convince me to spend more money on something you guys did wrong. read more

I have been so impressed with the courtesy of the employees, the straightforward and honest communication, and the great service I have received. I brought my car in months ago for brakes and had a hefty, though what I felt was appropriate, bill. Last week, while on vacation, I knew something broke or came loose on my car, but when it started making grinding noises when braking, I cut my vacation short to get the car sorted out. Today, I was so impressed at the speed at which they fixed the car, and the fact that the repair was so easy (a broken bolt) that they didn't charge me. I would have been happy to pay for labor, but I'm grateful for their work and I will be back! read more

We have gone to this Muffler Man for car service and oil changes for over 15 years. They are helpful and friendly and if you call they help with estimates and wait times. Also the work has always been done well, and I have received their recommendations for service or repair of parts, and heard them say similar things to other customers. For example a part needs replacement in the next 2 months vs right now, they have safety and quality in mind. You also can take used motor oil there and they use it to heat the shop in the winter. read more

Came here thinking my alternator needed replacing, we were told after a diagnostic that it was fine and there was nothing wrong. We brought it home but it wouldn't start in the morning. I brought it back AND made the guys cookies because the guy made me feel bad that he had to work on my car and I'm just too nice I guess. Turns out, alternator needed replacing. That's exactly what we thought it was but they dismissed us. Then I needed my break lines replaced but my husband didn't know how to do it so we figured why not bring it back to muffler man? They quoted us $800 for "5 hours of labor". We decided to get a second opinion so we took it to a shop in Sparta and they said most of the stuff muffler man said was broken and needed replacing was fine and we only paid $220 to get BOTH break lines fixed. I brought my 1999 Dodge Caravan to Muffler Man in Standale to have an estimate because of a grinding noise I heard in the brakes. I only had the van for about a year and was unsure of the condition of the brakes. I had my 5 month old daughter with me and we walked through the neighborhood while they inspected my van. Holly called me back and told me that my vehicle needed a ton of work and was unsafe to drive. She said that my back brakes were not working at all, that I had a restricted hose, I needed cylinders rebuilt, and she just went on and on. She said the minimum repairs to make my van safe to drive would cost me $543.03. She had me convinced and I told her that I would walk back to their garage to sign a "work authorization" so they could get started. On my way I called my husband to tell him about the estimate because it was so much more expensive than we were anticipating for a routine brake job. He advised me that we should get a second opinion, and I explained that to Holly and another man that was behind the counter. That is when they really turned up the heat. The bullying and scare tactics they used were heinous and disgraceful. They should be ashamed of themselves. They told me that my vehicle is so bad off that there used to be a law that would have required it to be towed to get a second opinion. They said that a piston could blow at any time and that I would be without any brakes and could get into an accident. They told me that if I killed someone in that accident, the police would impound my car and when they saw how bad the brakes were that I could get charged with negligent homicide. I told them the garage I planned to drive it to was right around the corner and that I wouldn't have to go on any major streets and could drive at 10 mph. They also tried to use my daughter as leverage against me and told me I should at least have someone pick her up so that I am not putting her life at risk as well. They told me that the van was still up in the hoist and that all the parts were already ordered and the more they pushed me to not get a second opinion, the more I didn't trust them. They made me sign a waver saying that they advised me not to drive so they wouldn't be liable if I got into an accident. I ended up driving away with my daughter and felt like a criminal. I was embarrassed for them to see me buckle in her carseat and drive away. I drove about 2 miles to Leonard Heights Garage and his estimate was $129. He said the back brakes looked great and that they had been replaced fairly recently. He assured me that all I needed was routine brake pads and rotors. That's $414 less! As much as Muffler Man trying to take advantage of me financially bothers me, all of the harrassment torments me more. I was in tears and felt like such a terrible mother for driving away, because there is nothing I wouldn't do to assure my child's safety. read more

Beware of this place! I had my exhaust replaced here less than two years ago. It has been getting louder for a few weeks now and when I took it back in they told me it was rotting out. They quoted me almost the same as I paid before. When I asked how it would rust out so fast and why they wouldn't stand behind it the lady working told me there was nothing they can do and welcome to Michigan. They are rude and the work isn't good. read more

Completely agree with Herb. I was given an estimate on a simple repair (needed a brake cylinder, was told I needed full brake sets on a car I planned to drive for about 2 more months). The owner became rude when I asked her for a more detailed explanation of the pricing and why I couldn't just get the simple item replaced. Then she started yelling that I didn't know what I was talking about etc... This was several years ago, but if is the same management (chain smoking blonde lady, also owns the one in Jenison I think) stay away. There are much better places nearby. read more

I called the Plainfield location to ask a question about my current muffler. I barely got a sentence out when who ever answered the phone blurted out the price as if he had no time to talk to me at all. I know I'm not experienced in muffler repair but all i wanted was a little advice on the temporary patch I have on the muffler. This guy was extremely rude in my opinion and not a good representative for this business. They should review their customer service practices. Now I don't know if I want to take my car there or not, unless only to talk to the manager. read more

I came in a long ago after I called and asked if they can install a catalytic converter and they said they'd do it. So I bought it, came in, they said they don't do them. They "tried to put it in" given they told me they would over the phone. They said it's the wrong part. I left their shop and within 5 min driving my left window just dropped into my door. Coincidence? I think not. And oh yea; that part was a perfect fit, just needed to be installed in a different shop. read more
