5-Stars! Experienced, Honest, & Integrity:…read moreI met Josh at the Kaz Transmission Allendale location just recently. I had heard some noises coming from our the Rear Final Drive Assembly on my 2019 Nissan Rogue. Josh later took the vehicle for a spin, hoisted it, checked a few things, and reached out to me about his findings. He presented me with some facts about the symptom and its remedy. He also explained to me the likelihood of other potential, very expensive drive line failures that could be imminent. He could have persuaded me to make a repair to the Rear Drive Final Assembly and taken my money. Instead, he dealt honestly, giving me the opportunity to make a wise decision based on his experienced perspective. The potential future investments involved were sobering. He did not attempt to persuade me in any way (for or against repair), just honestly told me what was happening, what was historically likely to happen next, and the costs for both. This I see as integrity. Wow, what refreshing experience. I so appreciate the integrity of the Kaz team. They have won a customer! I highly, highly recommend going to see them. FYI, Josh didn't ask me to write this. It wasn't written by Ai. I wasn't paid for this review. I am just grateful for Josh and the Kaz team. I simply felt that others should be aware and that, as Proverbs 3:27 says, "Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act." Sincerely, Peter T, Blendon Township MI Mar 18, 2026

Along the way they kept me informed, made sure I was getting the most economical MB parts, and they babied my Benz, making sure it was parked indoors as much as possible. In the end the repair bill was under quote! Clearly the people at Auto-Lab appreciate exotic vehicles, as evidenced by the reverence they had for my Mercedes! In the process they became my go-to for any future work on my treasured Benz. If you have an exotic vehicle, I highly recommend giving Auto-Lab a chance!!

NEW OWNERSHIP / MANAGEMENT WARNING: DO NOT TRUST THIS SHOP.If I could leave zero stars, I would. Do…read morenot be fooled by the historical 4.5-star average on this listing. After overhearing conversations inside the shop, it became entirely clear that this location is operating under a completely different management team that, in my opinion, is actively coasting on years of old, positive reviews to blindside unsuspecting clients. What they are running now, I my opinion, is a predatory bait-and-switch outfit that engages in fraudulent quotes, unauthorized work, and severe voucher theft.I brought my husband's Kia Soul here using a Groupon for an oil change and alignment. My husband passed away just 4 months ago after a long hospital stay, and this shop, in my opinion, actively and knowingly tried to exploit my situation, commit financial fraud, and extort me for money. 1. The $836.49 Rack & Pinion Scam: They tried to tell me I needed brand-new inner tie rods, quoting me $836.49 just for parts and labor (excluding the alignment). The mechanic, in my opinion, fabricated a claim that they had to remove the entire rack and pinion to do the job just to inflate labor costs. I refused and sought second and third opinions. Both Alpine Tire and Belle Tire physically inspected my vehicle and confirmed my inner tie rods are completely fine. Furthermore, Kia Corporate confirmed that Auto-Lab's tear-down claim is not true. Even if the work was needed, honest local shops quoted the entire job at $400-$483, alignment included. I have uploaded pictures of the conflicting estimates to prove this.2. Bait-and-Switch Tactics (MVSRA Violation):The mechanic showed me, my battery ground terminal was "broken and wedged" ( I was confused because a brand-new battery was installed last month and I haven't had any issues with the battery) I also think I would have noticed it broken when I checked the oil. The day before. He didn't ask me if I wanted him to fix it. He framed fixing it like it was a kind, courtesy gesture. Because of how he phrased it, I agreed. Instead, they snuck an unauthorized charge onto my final bill without my explicit consent. This is, in my opinion, a violation of the Michigan Motor Vehicle Service and Repair Act.3. Blatant Groupon Voucher Fraud:I had two separate Groupon packages on my account--one current and one expired--each good for two oil changes (four total). I used the current voucher for today's service and only provided the expired code so they could look up the promotional account value. The front desk flat-out lied, telling me the expired money was completely "irretrievable" and that calling Groupon was a waste of time. I later discovered that while looking me in the eye and lying, they secretly logged into their merchant portal and marked BOTH packages as "REDEEMED." They stole the cash from Groupon for services never rendered. Good luck explaining to corporate how one Kia Soul successfully received four separate oil changes in a single afternoon.I have submitted the conflicting written estimates and account screenshots to Groupon Corporate, who is investigating this location for merchant fraud. If you are a woman, a widow, a caretaker, or anyone looking for an honest mechanic, avoid Auto-Lab in Jenison at all costs. They showed a complete lack of moral character and a total disregard for basic decency. As the New Testament warns in James 1:27, the absolute definition of true faith and character is to care for and protect widows in their time of trouble. Instead, this shop chose to actively exploit and deceitfully rob a recently widowed woman with full knowledge of my loss. They will look you in the eye and try to rob you. Brought trans to shop about a year and 1/2 ago to have rebuilt after it overheated. Shop freshened…read moreup the trans(new clutches/steels) and replaced some hard parts that were worn out, installed shift kit(was told), hardened sun shell(maybe it looks like a stock piece to me), new rear planetary(more on that below) and included new rebuilt torque converter and trans cooler. Took trans home, flushed lines and radiator cooler with 2 cans of Kooler Kleen and then 2 quarts of new ATF with compressed air in between, very very clean no obstructions. Also added new cooler and installed temp gauge. Followed start up instructions to a "T", checked for leaks(none)and filled to proper level. I don't drive the vehicle often, only when needed (truck). Shifted fine everything seemed good. Fast forward to last month noticed gear whine in first gear that stopped when shifting to 2nd. Was going to contact shop on vacation and ask about it. Soon after was taking off from stop normally and "BANG" trans exploded internally and no forward gears. Towed home and dropped pan and LOTS of metal in the pan-looked like bearing pieces to me. Fluid looks gray from all the metal but smells brand new. Keep in mind this trans has less than 1000 miles since the rebuild! Only tows light fishing boat occasionally and trans gauge never got past 150F since rebuild. Called shop told owner what happened and he made it sound like I did all sorts of things wrong installing it (like not bypassing the radiator cooler-I just couldn't justify doing that and from what I've read it's not the smart thing to do) and that I must not have flushed the lines good enough, etc. So now I'm hesitant to take it back, he made it sound like it's all my fault that it failed. So I pull it out again(what a pita on my back in the garage) and decided to take it apart myself to see what went wrong. I found a missing bolt in the valve body, the 2/4 servo shaft looks like it's been welded on??(never heard of or seen that before, talked to other trans shops and they thought it was a very poor mod to say the least) but everything else looks great until I get to the rear planetary (one of the hard parts that was supposedly replaced) . The bearing came apart and that is what started the catastrophic failure. The bearing pieces and splines took out the(new) planetary, ring gear that it rides in, the sun gear, and possibly the output shaft. So now I have to figure out what to do, I only got about 700 miles out of the trans, and I sure don't want to take it back after the negative conversation I had with owner. I think I'm going to try to fix it myself, can't be any worse than my experience with RM, if I get more than 700 miles I guess I did pretty good being a rookie. I have to just chalk it up to another hard lesson learned and just wanted to let others know about my experience-to say I'm bummed out about this is an understatement. I can't say my experiences with them have all been bad, in the past the owner has been good to me (fluid and filter change) and the trans was pretty clean on the outside when I picked it up and it didn't cost a ton of money being that I removed and installed myself. But that's no concession now that I'm right back where I was before the rebuild, actually in worse shape now with all the internal damage. Wouldn't recommend this place after this experience and wish I would have done my homework before choosing them-if you are looking for a trans place I recommend reading Transmission Rebuild 101: Words From A Shop Manager's Perspective. It opened my eyes quite a bit.
