What they are running now, I my opinion, is a predatory bait-and-switch outfit that engages in fraudulent quotes, unauthorized work, and severe voucher theft.I brought my husband's Kia Soul here using a Groupon for an oil change and alignment. My husband passed away just 4 months ago after a long hospital stay, and this shop, in my opinion, actively and knowingly tried to exploit my situation, commit financial fraud, and extort me for money. 1. The $836.49 Rack & Pinion Scam: They tried to tell me I needed brand-new inner tie rods, quoting me $836.49 just for parts and labor (excluding the alignment). The mechanic, in my opinion, fabricated a claim that they had to remove the entire rack and pinion to do the job just to inflate labor costs. I refused and sought second and third opinions. Both Alpine Tire and Belle Tire physically inspected my vehicle and confirmed my inner tie rods are completely fine. Furthermore, Kia Corporate confirmed that Auto-Lab's tear-down claim is not true. Even if the work was needed, honest local shops quoted the entire job at $400-$483, alignment included. I have uploaded pictures of the conflicting estimates to prove this.2. Bait-and-Switch Tactics (MVSRA Violation):The mechanic showed me, my battery ground terminal was "broken and wedged" ( I was confused because a brand-new battery was installed last month and I haven't had any issues with the battery) I also think I would have noticed it broken when I checked the oil. The day before. He didn't ask me if I wanted him to fix it. He framed fixing it like it was a kind, courtesy gesture. Because of how he phrased it, I agreed. Instead, they snuck an unauthorized charge onto my final bill without my explicit consent. This is, in my opinion, a violation of the Michigan Motor Vehicle Service and Repair Act.3. Blatant Groupon Voucher Fraud:I had two separate Groupon packages on my account--one current and one expired--each good for two oil changes (four total). I used the current voucher for today's service and only provided the expired code so they could look up the promotional account value. The front desk flat-out lied, telling me the expired money was completely "irretrievable" and that calling Groupon was a waste of time. I later discovered that while looking me in the eye and lying, they secretly logged into their merchant portal and marked BOTH packages as "REDEEMED." They stole the cash from Groupon for services never rendered. Good luck explaining to corporate how one Kia Soul successfully received four separate oil changes in a single afternoon.I have submitted the conflicting written estimates and account screenshots to Groupon Corporate, who is investigating this location for merchant fraud. If you are a woman, a widow, a caretaker, or anyone looking for an honest mechanic, avoid Auto-Lab in Jenison at all costs. They showed a complete lack of moral character and a total disregard for basic decency.As the New Testament warns in James 1:27, the absolute definition of true faith and character is to care for and protect widows in their time of trouble. Seems they omit bad reviews they are too dishonest and embarrassed to make right. However they can't control everyone and every review site, so sad. Terry has been a manager with Belle for a long time, and 25 years ago I WAS buying tires from him, unfortunately over time the quality of service and honesty has dropped so low and the to the level of flat out lying excessively about mechanical work has left me no alternative other then to shop at a more reputable business. I had a unfamiliar shaking in my front end. Was told it was a sticking brake caliper and they repaired the $30 part for $300. No problem, except that wasn't the problem. They were upset I wouldn't do a $100 alignment on front end that was only out 1 degree! Wouldn't have made any difference with the shaking. Then I returned saying the caliper replacement didn't help the shaking. Please Look at it again. They said Now that the tires were Totally Shot! Yes, the same ones they wanted me to spend a $100 alignment on? I said if that's only your theory so putting the front tire on the back should pinpoint if it's a tire issue. They were pissed off on a dead business day bothering to help solve a problem they claimed but didn't have the knowledge, expertise, or honesty to solve. Turns out it took me 5 minutes at home to look under the car and see that the front CV AXLE CARRIER BEARING had come completely torn apart. At the same time the wheels I had just had cleaned prior to my visit had been intentionally scratched up with deep and serious groves. It's just terrible how customers are treated if not spending money on unnecessary work at Belle tire. I didn't bother going back to this dishonest business and will stop bringing in the dozen plus cars I maintain also. History is same with Belles Alpine store ( where Terry used to manage) I was told an extra $100 on an alignment because it had a difficult bolt to remove. This after they were working on it. I had just put struts on this vehicle and the bolt they claimed was hard to get at took me 2 minutes to put a wrench on it. Total liars there also and prices for mechanical work are even higher than a dealer. I don't advertise I'm a certified mechanic when others are working on my cars. :) Note: BELLE Responded as any dishonest corporation would. While this would typically turn me away from a repair shop, Monro's garage staff explained each step to me and informed me of what was truly necessary, what would be helpful, and what was simply routine. At no point did I feel they were after money and I felt cared for through the entire experience. Although we only completed an oil change today, I left with the information needed to do some repairs at home and plan to return for an alignment after repairs are done. Without a doubt, this will be where I go for all repairs, oil changes, and any other car related concerns while living in Grand Rapids.
