However, the follow-up ceased after telling me that they 'would LOVE to consider our project' and could 'get us an estimate anytime!' Further messages to MTR (Jennifer) to get that illusive estimate were ignored, which tells me to steer clear. The first was some exterior window framing/trimming and the second was some tall chandelier installs. Part of my responsibilities as the assistant to a rental property owner is to locate, assess, and approve contractors for various projects. I came across MTR Construction, husband/wife team of Ruben and Jennifer. Their website offered information about their professional experience, but they also shared the very important reason they started their own company. They have worked on 2 different properties so far ... starting with a fence that was in shambles from a storm; repairing what they could and replacing what they couldn't. They just finished a complete siding and window replacement, and interior work on a duplex. Not to mention that Ruben identified evidence of termites in the early invasion stages, saving the owner a significant amount of money and heartache if it has gone undetected. All projects they have done are works of art. Each one was finished with master precision and workmanship, with on-time completion, excellent communication, and fairly priced. I had a couple of bids to replace part of the 50s cedar siding on my house and MTR was one of the most reasonable bids price-wise. I sat on the bid for a few months while I was waiting for better weather and to save up for the repairs, but Jennifer communicated well and found a spot for my in the schedule this spring. I work in architecture and they did not mind me sending photos with a detailed scope of work. This was a 1-day, 2-3 person job and the team showed up on time, reviewed the work with me, protected the yard well (not terribly needed with my beat up yard, but appreciated), and got the work done on time and with quality. I own several properties in the Portland area and have had a number of different contractors over the thirty years. Most of the contractors have delivered eventually. Here is what I think made MTR different: 1. Showed up when they said they would, did the expected work plus fixed unknown issues without nickle, dimeing, and dollaring me to death. 2. You can't teach attitude and Jennifer, Ruben, and team only get five stars here because that's this sites maximum allowed which isn't enough to cover the experience they delivered. 3. Communication was incredible supported by photos to consistently let me know status, needs, or solutions. (this isn't common). 4. Family owned that actually does the work too. What I'm trying to say here is it's personal for them and you feel like it's their house too. Clearly I'm pleased and conflicted about sharing because I don't want them to get so busy there not available for me, but these two go the extra mile, they do it with a smile, exceed expectations and the truth is everyone should know them too. read more
